Tuladhara Answers Jajali on True Sacrifice
Jajali complains that Tuladhara's teaching would close the gate of heaven and cut off the livelihood that farming and sacrifice provide. Tuladhara replies that he does not condemn sacrifice, but only the sacrifice of greedy men and greedy priests; he describes the wise of old who sacrificed with truth and self-restraint, harmed no creature and reached the abode of Brahman. When Jajali asks by what act one may find happiness, Tuladhara answers with the cow, whose milk and ghee accomplish every rite, and with the truth that the self is the holiest ford. Bhishma closes by saying that Tuladhara praises such reasoned and non-violent duties.
