Indra and Vritra in Battle
Yudhishthira marvels at the righteousness of Vritra and asks how a devotee of Vishnu came to be slain by Indra. Bhishma describes the battle: Vritra's towering form terrifies the gods, and Indra, bewildered by Vritra's illusions, is roused by Vasishtha and the sages. At their prayer Maheshvara sends his energy into Vritra as a fever, Vishnu enters Indra's thunderbolt, and the gods and sages urge Indra on.
