Karna and Parashurama: The Worm and the Curse
Pleased with Karna's service, Rama teaches him the brahma weapon in full. One day, as Rama sleeps with his head on Karna's lap, a worm bores into Karna's thigh; Karna endures the pain without moving, and the blood wakes Rama. Rama's glance kills the worm, which turns out to be an asura named Damsha cursed by Bhrigu, and he rises freed. Rama, judging that only a kshatriya could bear such pain, makes Karna confess that he is a charioteer's son who claimed to be a brahmin. He curses him: the weapon will fail him at the hour of his death. Karna returns to Duryodhana, saying that he has mastered the weapons.
