Narada's Hymn of Names at the White Island
Bhishma continues the tale of Narada. Having reached the White Island, Narada honours its shining white inhabitants and is honoured by them. Longing to see the Lord, he stands with his arms raised and sings a long hymn of names to the God without qualities, who is the Self of the qualities, praising him as the lord of creatures, of sacrifice and of every world.

Verse 1 (12.346.1)
प्राप्य श्वेतं महाद्वीपं नारदो भगवानृषिः । ददर्श तानेव नराञ्श्वेतांश्चन्द्रसमप्रभान् ॥
prāpya śvetaṃ mahādvīpaṃ nārado bhagavānṛṣiḥ | dadarśa tāneva narāñśvetāṃścandrasamaprabhān
Having reached the great White Island, the blessed sage Narada saw those same white men, shining like the moon.

pūjayāmāsa śirasā manasā taiśca pūjitaḥ | didṛkṣurjapyaparamaḥ sarvakṛcchragataḥ sthitaḥ
He honoured them with bowed head and was honoured by them in turn; eager to see the Lord, wholly given to silent prayer, he stood there having gone through every austerity.

bhūtvaikāgramanā vipra ūrdhvabāhuḥ samāhitaḥ | stotraṃ jagau sa viśvāya nirguṇāya guṇātmane
With a single-pointed mind, that brahmin sage, arms raised and composed, sang a hymn to the All, to the one without qualities who is the Self of the qualities.

Note on the text: Not auto-matched; the whole litany is CE 12.325.4 (printed there as invocations A-Q, numbered 1-171), one long verse on the page (12-346-4a). Corrections (all misprints in Wikisource): the wiki asterisk (a footnote mark) removed and तुपित → तुषित (CE tuṣita; the page's footnote gives a variant महारुषित); कुशेशयब्रह्मेशय split into कुशेशय ब्रह्मेशय (two names, CE kuśeśaya brahmeśaya); पञचाग्रे → पञ्चाग्ने (broken conjunct and ग्र for ग्न; CE pañcāgne); प्राग्जोतिष → प्राग्ज्योतिष (CE prāgjyotiṣa); महाकुच्छ्र → महाकृच्छ्र (the list yama, niyama, mahāniyama, kṛcchra, atikṛcchra, mahākṛcchra, sarvakṛcchra); सर्वदर्शिनं नग्राह्या → सर्वदर्शिन्नग्राह्या (सर्वदर्शिन् + अग्राह्य; CE sarvadarśin agrāhya); विश्वर्मूर्ते → विश्वमूर्ते (CE viśvamūrte). The run च्छिन्नसंशय सर्वतोवृत्त निवृत्तरूप ब्राह्मणरूप is printed twice in succession on the page (a doubled stretch, not in the CE); the second copy is removed and the names are translated once. Everything else in the long list (including the repeated हरिमेध, वशवर्तिन् and पुरुषोत्तम, which are recension features; वरप्रद also occurs twice in the CE, as items 135 and 157; and names such as नावमिक, नामनामिक, सप्तमहास्वरयाम्य, राजिक, which differ from the CE) is kept as printed. The zero-width non-joiner in वषट्कारः is kept. The Wikisource list is not numbered; its names differ in places from the CE's 171 (e.g. CE mahākāyika, paramayājñika, sāṃkhyayoga, amṛteśaya are absent).
