The Lord Reveals Himself to Narada
Pleased by Narada's hymn, the Lord shows him a form of many colours, with a thousand eyes, reciting the Vedas, and tells him that only the foremost single-minded devotees may see him. He teaches that Vasudeva is the Purusha beyond the qualities, and that his fourfold manifestation is Vasudeva, Sankarshana, Pradyumna and Aniruddha, the form Narada sees being a Maya of his own making. He shows the Rudras, Adityas, Vasus and other beings that abide in him, tells of the boons he gave to Brahma, of his own withdrawal and of the creation that recurs from age to age, and sends Narada on his way.

"Know this creation, which comes again and again at the beginning of each kalpa. Just as the sun's rising and setting here in the sky, when lost, are brought back again by force by Time, O you of boundless splendour, so too, by force and for the good of all beings, I bring back the earth."
Note on the text: Restored from the critical edition (12.326.71e): Wikisource ends this verse at the third line (CE 70c, 71a, 71c) and leaves the simile unfinished ("as the sun's rising and setting ... time brings back by force"); the closing line tathā balād ahaṃ pṛthvīṃ sarvabhūtahitāya vai is added as a fourth line, in the CE's own words. The CE line carries no finite verb (it leads into the avatara passage that Wikisource begins in adhyaya 348), so "bring back" in the translation is supplied from the simile. Wikisource नष्टे for CE naṣṭau is kept. Continuation of the Blessed Lord's speech (no heading printed).
