Gandhari Mourns Duryodhana
Gandhari sees the body of Duryodhana, faints, and on rising embraces him and weeps. She tells Krishna how Duryodhana once asked for her blessing of victory and how she answered that victory lies where dharma is, and says that she grieves less for him than for Dhritarashtra. She describes him lying in the dust, where vultures and jackals now attend the man whom women and kings once served, struck down by Bhima though he had once led eleven akshauhinis into battle. She points out his wife, Lakshmana's mother, lying on his breast, and ends by saying that if the scriptures are true he has won the worlds earned by the strength of his arms.
