Gandhari Surveys the Battlefield
By the boon of Vyasa, Gandhari sees the whole field of Kurukshetra as if it lay close by. Dhritarashtra, the Pandavas and Krishna take the widowed Kuru women there, and the women fall senseless at the sight. Gandhari then speaks to Krishna and shows him the horror: the corpses of the great warriors among the vultures and jackals, the bards' former patrons lying in the dust, the women searching for their dead and fitting heads to the wrong bodies. She ends in grief at seeing her own sons and grandsons slain, and as she turns from Krishna she sees her fallen son Duryodhana.
