Nahusha Made King of Heaven

Shalya continues the story of Indra for Yudhishthira. With Indra gone, the gods and sages ask King Nahusha to rule heaven; when he pleads weakness, they grant that he will take the energy of any being he looks upon, and he is consecrated. Once enthroned he turns to pleasure, and on seeing Shachi he demands that Indra's queen come to him. She seeks refuge with Brihaspati, who promises that Indra will soon return, and Nahusha is enraged to learn of it.
