Krishna Reports Bhishma's Counsel

Back in Upaplavya from Hastinapura, Krishna tells the Pandavas briefly that Duryodhana rejected his counsel. That evening Yudhishthira asks him what Bhishma, Drona, Dhritarashtra, Gandhari, Vidura and the kings said, and Krishna begins with Bhishma. Bhishma reminded Duryodhana of his own vow to stay unmarried and never be king, of how he refused the throne even when famine struck and the people begged him to rule, and of how Vyasa fathered three sons for the line. Since the blind Dhritarashtra was passed over and Pandu became king, Bhishma said, Pandu's sons are the heirs, and he urged Duryodhana to give them half the kingdom.
