Rukmi Offers His Help and Is Refused
Rukmi, son of King Bhishmaka of the Bhojas and holder of Indra's bow Vijaya, arrives at the Pandava camp with an akshauhini. The account recalls the three divine bows and how Rukmi, defeated by Krishna after Rukmini's abduction, founded the city of Bhojakata. Rukmi offers to fight for Arjuna "if he is afraid"; Arjuna, recalling the battles he won without any ally, laughs and declines. Rejected by Duryodhana as well, Rukmi stays out of the war, as Balarama does, and the Pandavas return to their counsel.
