Amba Meets Her Grandfather Hotravahana
Bhishma continues the story of Amba. The forest ascetics debate what to do with her and urge her to go home to her father, but she refuses and resolves to practise austerities. Her mother's father, the royal sage Hotravahana, arrives, hears her story and sends her to Rama, son of Jamadagni. Rama's follower Akritavrana appears, and Hotravahana tells him how Bhishma carried off the three princesses of Kashi and how Salva rejected Amba; Amba says she will do whatever Rama tells her.

kecidāhuḥ piturveśma nīyatāmiti tāpasāḥ | kecidasmadupālambhe matiṃ cakrurhi tāpasāḥ
Some of the ascetics said that she should be taken to her father's house; some set their minds on reproaching me.
Note on the text: Corrected केचिदस्यदुमालम्भे → केचिदस्मदुपालम्भे (misprint in Wikisource; the critical edition reads ke cid asmadupālambhe). हि तापसाः (CE dvijottamāḥ) kept as a variant.

Some thought they should go to the lord of the Salvas and press him to take her; others decided against it, since he had already rejected her.
