The Gods Halt the Duel of Bhishma and Rama

As Bhishma prepares to loose the Prasvapana weapon on Rama, a cry rises in heaven and Narada and the eight Brahmavadins bid him hold back out of respect for his guru; Bhishma withdraws it, and Rama admits that he is beaten. Rama's ancestors appear and urge him to lay down his arms, telling him that Bhishma is a Vasu whose death is destined to come through Arjuna. Rama refuses and Bhishma too will not turn back when the sages and Ganga plead with him, until the ancestors make Rama put down his weapon. Bhishma then salutes Rama, who praises him as unmatched among kshatriyas and calls Amba before the assembly.

ayuñjameva caivāhaṃ tadastraṃ bhṛgunandane | prasvāpaṃ māṃ prayuñjānaṃ nārado vākyamabravīt

Even so, I fitted that weapon against the joy of the Bhrigus. As I was about to employ the Prasvapana, Narada spoke these words to me:

Note on the text: Corrected प्रयुज्जानं → प्रयुञ्जानं and वाकयमब्रवीत् → वाक्यमब्रवीत् (misprints in Wikisource; ज्ज for ञ्ज and a broken conjunct; the critical edition reads prayuñjānaṃ and vākyam abravīt).
