Arjuna Leaves the Choice to Krishna

Arjuna answers Krishna's doubts about the prospects of peace. He argues that nothing should be thought impossible and that Krishna, the friend of both houses, can bring the Kurus and Pandavas to peace by going to Hastinapura. Yet he also recalls Duryodhana's fraud at dice and the humiliation of Draupadi, doubts that such a man will ever deal fairly, and leaves it to Krishna to choose peace or war as he thinks best.

"And so your task becomes a fitting one, Janardana; by your going there alone you will accomplish this, without doubt."

Note on the text: Restored from the critical edition (5.76.9d): Wikisource ends the verse 'करिष्यसि जनार्दन', repeating the vocative of the second quarter in place of the closing words; replaced with the critical edition's 'न संशयः'. The rest of the verse keeps Wikisource's reading (एवं च for the critical edition's evaṃ cet).
