Krishna Pleads with Dhritarashtra for Peace
Before the silent assembly Krishna addresses Dhritarashtra, saying he has come to ask for peace between the Kurus and the Pandavas without the slaughter of heroes. He reminds the king of the virtues of his house and of his duty to restrain his greedy sons, shows him how much he gains by uniting both sides and how little he gains from a war of mutual destruction, and delivers the Pandavas' message: they have kept the terms of their exile and ask, as sons, for their share of the kingdom. He warns the assembly that members who watch dharma being struck down are struck down themselves, recalls Yudhishthira's loyalty and the fraud of the dice, and urges the king to choose what is best. The kings approve in their hearts, but no one dares to speak.
