Arjuna Spares the Fugitives and Takes Up His Disguise Again
With Virata's cattle recovered, scattered Kuru soldiers come out of the forest with joined hands and beg for their lives, and Arjuna grants them safety, saying he does not kill the helpless or those who surrender. He asks Uttara not to reveal that the Pandavas live at his father's court but to claim the victory as his own, and Uttara promises silence until Arjuna gives him leave. At the shami tree Arjuna puts the weapons away, the monkey banner departs and the lion banner is restored, and he takes up the reins again as Brihannala; after resting the horses they send cowherds ahead to the city to proclaim Uttara's victory.

tato vijitya saṃgrāme kurūngovṛṣabhekṣaṇaḥ | samānayāmāsa tadā virāṭasya dhanaṃ mahat
Having thus conquered the Kurus in battle, he of the bull-like eyes brought back Virata's great wealth.
Note on the text: Corrected कुरुगो° → कुरून्गो° (misprint in Wikisource; dropped न्, leaving विजित्य without its object; the CE reads kurūn govṛṣabhekṣaṇaḥ).
Verse 2 (4.68.2)

gateṣu ca prabhagneṣu dhārtarāṣṭreṣu sarvaśaḥ | vanānniṣkramya gahanādbahavaḥ kurusainikāḥ | bhayātsaṃtrastamanasaḥ samājagmustatastataḥ
When the sons of Dhritarashtra had gone, routed on every side, many Kuru soldiers came out of the dense forest and gathered from here and there, their minds struck with fear.
Note on the text: The critical edition's 4.62.2 and 4.62.3a–b; the alignment left it unmatched. Corrected मतषु → गतेषु (misprint in Wikisource; the CE reads gateṣu).

They were seen standing with their hair loose and their hands joined, worn out by hunger and thirst, in a strange land and out of their wits. With joined hands they all said, "Partha, what shall we do?
Note on the text: The critical edition's 4.62.3c–d and 4.62.4, with small differences of wording; the alignment left it unmatched. Corrected क्षुत्पिणसा → क्षुत्पिपासा (misprint in Wikisource; the CE reads kṣutpipāsā).

Then the Kurus turned back, broken and submissive, and went off in every direction after bowing to Dhananjaya.
Note on the text: Speaker corrected from अर्जुन (an obvious carry-over in the input) to वैशम्पायन: this is narration. Corrected यग्नाश्च दिवमास्थिताः → भग्नाश्च वशमास्थिताः (misprints in Wikisource; य for भ, and दिवम् "the sky" makes no sense of the routed soldiers; the CE's 4.62.7a reads prabhagnā vaśam āsthitāḥ, and verse 19 repeats the line as प्रभग्नाः शममास्थिताः). Note on the text: Speaker corrected from अर्जुन (an obvious carry-over in the input) to वैशम्पायन: this is narration. Not in the critical edition (found in the vulgate recension).
