The Description of Manidvipa
Verse 1 (devibhagavatam.12.10.1)
व्यास उवाच । ब्रह्मलोकादूर्ध्वभागे सर्वलोकोऽस्ति यः श्रुतः । मणिद्वीपः स एवास्ति यत्र देवी विराजते
vyāsa uvāca brahmalokādūrdhvabhāge sarvaloko'sti yaḥ śrutaḥ maṇidvīpaḥ sa evāsti yatra devī virājate
Vyasa said: Above Brahmaloka there exists that world which is spoken of as the Sarvaloka — that very place is Manidvipa, where the Devi resides in splendor.
Verse 2 (devibhagavatam.12.10.2)
सर्वस्मादधिको यस्मात्सर्वलोकस्ततः स्मृतः । पुरा पराम्बयैवायं कल्पितो मनसेच्छया
sarvasmādadhiko yasmātsarvalokastataḥ smṛtaḥ purā parāmbayaivāyaṁ kalpito manasecchayā
Since it surpasses all other worlds, it is remembered as Sarvaloka; it was fashioned long ago by the Supreme Mother herself, through her mental will,
Verse 3 (devibhagavatam.12.10.3)
सर्वादौ निजवासार्थं प्रकृत्या मूलभूतया । कैलासादधिको लोको वैकुण्ठादपि चोत्तमः
sarvādau nijavāsārthaṁ prakṛtyā mūlabhūtayā kailāsādadhiko loko vaikuṇṭhādapi cottamaḥ
at the very beginning of all things, for her own dwelling, by the root-cause Prakriti. It is a world superior even to Kailasa, and greater even than Vaikuntha,
Verse 4 (devibhagavatam.12.10.4)
गोलोकादपि सर्वस्मात्सर्वलोकोऽधिकः स्मृतः । न तत्समं त्रिलोक्यां तु सुन्दरं विद्यते क्वचित्
golokādapi sarvasmātsarvaloko'dhikaḥ smṛtaḥ na tatsamaṁ trilokyāṁ tu sundaraṁ vidyate kvacit
and Sarvaloka is remembered as surpassing even Goloka, greater than all. Nowhere in the three worlds does anything equal to it in beauty exist.
Verse 5 (devibhagavatam.12.10.5)
छत्रीभूतं त्रिजगतो भवसन्तापनाशकम् । छायाभूतं तदेवास्ति ब्रह्माण्डानां तु सत्तम
chatrībhūtaṁ trijagato bhavasantāpanāśakam chāyābhūtaṁ tadevāsti brahmāṇḍānāṁ tu sattama
It stands as a canopy over the three worlds, destroying the torment of worldly existence; O best one, it is the very shade for all the universes.
Verse 6 (devibhagavatam.12.10.6)
बहुयोजनविस्तीर्णो गम्भीरस्तावदेव हि । मणिद्वीपस्य परितो वर्तते तु सुधोदधिः
bahuyojanavistīrṇo gambhīrastāvadeva hi maṇidvīpasya parito vartate tu sudhodadhiḥ
A vast ocean of nectar, extending for many yojanas and equally deep, surrounds Manidvipa on every side —
Verse 7 (devibhagavatam.12.10.7)
मरुत्सङ्घट्टनोत्कीर्णतरङ्ग शतसङ्कुलः । रत्नाच्छवालुकायुक्तो झषशङ्खसमाकुलः
marutsaṅghaṭṭanotkīrṇataraṅga śatasaṅkulaḥ ratnācchavālukāyukto jhaṣaśaṅkhasamākulaḥ
crowded with hundreds of waves carved by the clash of the winds, its sands clear as gems, teeming with fish and conches,
Verse 8 (devibhagavatam.12.10.8)
वीचिसङ्घर्षसञ्जातलहरीकणशीतलः । नानाध्वजसमायुक्तनानापोतगतागतैः
vīcisaṅgharṣasañjātalaharīkaṇaśītalaḥ nānādhvajasamāyuktanānāpotagatāgataiḥ
cooled by the fine spray thrown up from the friction of its waves, alive with the coming and going of many ships bearing various banners,
Verse 9 (devibhagavatam.12.10.9)
विराजमानः परितस्तीररत्नद्रुमो महान् । तदुत्तरमयोधातुनिर्मितो गगने ततः
virājamānaḥ paritastīraratnadrumo mahān taduttaramayodhātunirmito gagane tataḥ
resplendent, its great shores lined with jeweled trees on every side. Beyond that, rising into the sky, there stands —
Verse 10 (devibhagavatam.12.10.10)
सप्तयोजनविस्तीर्णः प्राकारो वर्तते महान् । नानाशस्त्रप्रहरणा नानायुद्धविशारदाः
saptayojanavistīrṇaḥ prākāro vartate mahān nānāśastrapraharaṇā nānāyuddhaviśāradāḥ
— a great rampart made of iron, seven yojanas in extent. Guards skilled in wielding many kinds of weapons and expert in many kinds of warfare
Verse 11 (devibhagavatam.12.10.11)
रक्षका निवसन्त्यत्र मोदमानाः समन्ततः । चतुर्द्वारसमायुक्तो द्वारपालशतान्वितः
rakṣakā nivasantyatra modamānāḥ samantataḥ caturdvārasamāyukto dvārapālaśatānvitaḥ
dwell here, rejoicing on every side. It is furnished with four gates, and attended by hundreds of gatekeepers,
Verse 12 (devibhagavatam.12.10.12)
नानागणैः परिवृतो देवीभक्तियुतैर्नृप । दर्शनार्थं समायान्ति ये देवा जगदीशितुः
nānāgaṇaiḥ parivṛto devībhaktiyutairnṛpa darśanārthaṁ samāyānti ye devā jagadīśituḥ
surrounded by manifold hosts devoted to the Devi, O king; those gods who come for the sight of the Mistress of the world —
Verse 13 (devibhagavatam.12.10.13)
तेषां गणा वसन्त्यत्र वाहनानि च तत्र हि । विमानशतसङ्घर्षघण्टास्वनसमाकुलः
teṣāṁ gaṇā vasantyatra vāhanāni ca tatra hi vimānaśatasaṅgharṣaghaṇṭāsvanasamākulaḥ
— their attendant hosts and their vehicles also dwell here; the place is filled with the clash and clatter of the bells of hundreds of celestial chariots,

हयहेषाखराघातबधिरीकृतदिङ्मुखः । गणैः किलकिलारावैर्वेत्रहस्तैश्च ताडिताः
hayaheṣākharāghātabadhirīkṛtadiṅmukhaḥ gaṇaiḥ kilakilārāvairvetrahastaiśca tāḍitāḥ
the neighing of horses, the beating of hooves, deafening every quarter; the servants of the hosts of the gods, with staffs of cane in hand,
Verse 15 (devibhagavatam.12.10.15)
सेवका देवसङ्घानां भ्राजन्ते तत्र भूमिप । तस्मिन्कोलाहले राजन्न शब्दः केनचित्क्वचित्
sevakā devasaṅghānāṁ bhrājante tatra bhūmipa tasminkolāhale rājanna śabdaḥ kenacitkvacit
— such servants of the divine hosts shine here, O lord of the earth. Yet, O king, amid all that tumult, not a single sound of anyone —
Verse 16 (devibhagavatam.12.10.16)
कस्यचिच्छ्रूयतेऽत्यन्तं नानाध्वनिसमाकुले । पदे पदे मिष्टवारिपरिपूर्णसरांसि च
kasyacicchrūyate'tyantaṁ nānādhvanisamākule pade pade miṣṭavāriparipūrṇasarāṁsi ca
— is heard clearly at all, so filled is the place with a confusion of every kind of sound. At every step there are lakes brimming with sweet water,
Verse 17 (devibhagavatam.12.10.17)
वाटिका विविधा राजन् रत्नद्रुमविराजिताः । तदुत्तरं महासारधातुनिर्मितमण्डलः
vāṭikā vividhā rājan ratnadrumavirājitāḥ taduttaraṁ mahāsāradhātunirmitamaṇḍalaḥ
and various gardens, O king, resplendent with jeweled trees. Beyond that lies a circle made of the finest bell-metal —
Verse 18 (devibhagavatam.12.10.18)
सालोऽपरो महानस्ति गगनस्पर्शि यच्छिरः । तेजसा स्याच्छतगुणः पूर्वसालादयं परः
sālo'paro mahānasti gaganasparśi yacchiraḥ tejasā syācchataguṇaḥ pūrvasālādayaṁ paraḥ
— another great rampart, whose top touches the very sky; this one is a hundredfold greater in splendor than the previous rampart.
Verse 19 (devibhagavatam.12.10.19)
गोपुरद्वारसहितो बहुवृक्षसमन्वितः । या वृक्षजातयः सन्ति सर्वास्तास्तत्र सन्ति च
gopuradvārasahito bahuvṛkṣasamanvitaḥ yā vṛkṣajātayaḥ santi sarvāstāstatra santi ca
It is furnished with towered gateways, and abounds in many trees; whatever species of tree exists anywhere, all of them are found there,
Verse 20 (devibhagavatam.12.10.20)
निरन्तरं पुष्पयुताः सदा फलसमन्विताः । नवपल्लवसंयुक्ताः परसौरभसङ्कुलाः
nirantaraṁ puṣpayutāḥ sadā phalasamanvitāḥ navapallavasaṁyuktāḥ parasaurabhasaṅkulāḥ
perpetually in flower, ever laden with fruit, adorned with fresh new shoots, filled with the most exquisite fragrance —

पनसा बकुला लोध्राः कर्णिकाराश्च शिंशपाः । देवदारुकाञ्चनारा आम्राश्चैव सुमेरवः
panasā bakulā lodhrāḥ karṇikārāśca śiṁśapāḥ devadārukāñcanārā āmrāścaiva sumeravaḥ
jackfruit trees, bakula, lodhra, karnikara, shishapa, deodar, kanchanara, mango trees, and sumeru trees,
Verse 22 (devibhagavatam.12.10.22)
लिकुचा हिङ्गुलाश्चैला लवङ्गाः कट्फलास्तथा । पाटला मुचुकुन्दाश्च फलिन्यो जघनेफलाः
likucā hiṅgulāścailā lavaṅgāḥ kaṭphalāstathā pāṭalā mucukundāśca phalinyo jaghanephalāḥ
likucha, hingula, cardamom, clove, katphala, patala, muchukunda, and fruit-bearing trees heavy with fruit at their base,

तालास्तमालाः सालाश्च कङ्कोला नागभद्रकाः । पुन्नागाः पीलवः साल्वका वै कर्पूरशाखिनः
tālāstamālāḥ sālāśca kaṅkolā nāgabhadrakāḥ punnāgāḥ pīlavaḥ sālvakā vai karpūraśākhinaḥ
palmyra, tamala, sala trees, kankola, nagabhadraka, punnaga, pilu, salvaka, and camphor trees,

अश्वकर्णा हस्तिकर्णास्तालपर्णाश्च दाडिमाः । गणिका बन्धुजीवाश्च जम्बीराश्च कुरण्डकाः
aśvakarṇā hastikarṇāstālaparṇāśca dāḍimāḥ gaṇikā bandhujīvāśca jambīrāśca kuraṇḍakāḥ
ashvakarna, hastikarna, tala-leafed trees, pomegranates, ganika, bandhujiva, citron trees, and kurandaka,
Verse 25 (devibhagavatam.12.10.25)
चाम्पेया बन्धुजीवाश्च तथा वै कनकद्रुमाः । कालागुरुद्रुमाश्चैव तथा चन्दनपादपाः
cāmpeyā bandhujīvāśca tathā vai kanakadrumāḥ kālāgurudrumāścaiva tathā candanapādapāḥ
champaka trees, bandhujiva, and likewise trees of gold, and trees of black aloeswood, and likewise sandalwood trees,
Verse 26 (devibhagavatam.12.10.26)
खर्जूरा यूथिकास्तालपर्ण्यश्चैव तथेक्षवः । क्षीरवृक्षाश्च खदिराश्चिञ्जाभल्लातकास्तथा
kharjūrā yūthikāstālaparṇyaścaiva tathekṣavaḥ kṣīravṛkṣāśca khadirāściñjābhallātakāstathā
date-palms, jasmine, tala-leaf plants, and likewise sugarcane, milk-sap trees, khadira, chinja, and marking-nut trees,
Verse 27 (devibhagavatam.12.10.27)
रुचकाः कुटजा वृक्षा बिल्ववृक्षास्तथैव च । तुलसीनां वनान्येवं मल्लिकानां तथैव च
rucakāḥ kuṭajā vṛkṣā bilvavṛkṣāstathaiva ca tulasīnāṁ vanānyevaṁ mallikānāṁ tathaiva ca
rucaka trees, kutaja trees, and likewise bilva trees; and groves of tulasi in the same way, and likewise of mallika.
Verse 28 (devibhagavatam.12.10.28)
इत्यादितरुजातीनां वनान्युपवनानि च । नानावापीशतैर्युक्तान्येवं सन्ति धराधिप
ityāditarujātīnāṁ vanānyupavanāni ca nānāvāpīśatairyuktānyevaṁ santi dharādhipa
O lord of the earth, groves and gardens of these and other kinds of trees exist thus, joined with hundreds of various step-wells.
Verse 29 (devibhagavatam.12.10.29)
कोकिलारावसंयुक्ता गुञ्जद्भ्रमरभूषिताः । निर्यासस्राविणः सर्वे स्निग्धच्छायास्तरूत्तमाः
kokilārāvasaṁyuktā guñjadbhramarabhūṣitāḥ niryāsasrāviṇaḥ sarve snigdhacchāyāstarūttamāḥ
Filled with the calls of cuckoos, adorned with humming bees, all these finest of trees exude sweet resin and cast cool, glossy shade;
Verse 30 (devibhagavatam.12.10.30)
नानाऋतुभवा वृक्षा नानापक्षिसमाकुलाः । नानारसस्राविणीभिर्नदीभिरतिशोभिताः
nānāṛtubhavā vṛkṣā nānāpakṣisamākulāḥ nānārasasrāviṇībhirnadībhiratiśobhitāḥ
trees born of every season, teeming with birds of every kind, made supremely beautiful by rivers flowing with every kind of sweet essence;
Verse 31 (devibhagavatam.12.10.31)
पारावतशुकव्रातसारिकापक्षमारुतैः । हंसपक्षसमुद्भूतावातव्रातैश्चलद्द्रुमम्
pārāvataśukavrātasārikāpakṣamārutaiḥ haṁsapakṣasamudbhūtāvātavrātaiścaladdrumam
the trees swaying in the breezes stirred by the wings of flocks of doves, parrots, and mynahs, and by the gusts raised by the wings of swans —
Verse 32 (devibhagavatam.12.10.32)
सुगन्धग्राहिपवनपूरितं तद्वनोत्तमम् । सहितं हरिणीयूथैर्धावमानैरितस्ततः
sugandhagrāhipavanapūritaṁ tadvanottamam sahitaṁ hariṇīyūthairdhāvamānairitastataḥ
that finest of forests is filled with fragrance-laden breezes, together with herds of deer running here and there,
Verse 33 (devibhagavatam.12.10.33)
नृत्यद्बर्हिकदम्बस्य केकारावैः सुखप्रदैः । नादितं तद्वनं दिव्यं मधुस्रावि समन्ततः
nṛtyadbarhikadambasya kekārāvaiḥ sukhapradaiḥ nāditaṁ tadvanaṁ divyaṁ madhusrāvi samantataḥ
resounding everywhere with the delightful cries of flocks of dancing peacocks; that divine forest drips with honey on every side.
Verse 34 (devibhagavatam.12.10.34)
कांस्यसालादुत्तरे तु ताम्रसालः प्रकीर्तितः । चतुरस्रसमाकार उन्नत्या सप्तयोजनः
kāṁsyasālāduttare tu tāmrasālaḥ prakīrtitaḥ caturasrasamākāra unnatyā saptayojanaḥ
Beyond the bell-metal rampart, there is declared to be a rampart of copper, square in shape, seven yojanas in height.
Verse 35 (devibhagavatam.12.10.35)
द्वयोस्तु सालयोर्मध्ये सम्प्रोक्ता कल्पवाटिका । येषां तरूणां पुष्पाणि काञ्चनाभानि भूमिप
dvayostu sālayormadhye samproktā kalpavāṭikā yeṣāṁ tarūṇāṁ puṣpāṇi kāñcanābhāni bhūmipa
Between these two ramparts is declared the Kalpa-garden, O lord of the earth, whose trees' flowers gleam like gold,
Verse 36 (devibhagavatam.12.10.36)
पत्राणि काञ्चनाभानि रत्नबीजफलानि च । दशयोजनगन्धो हि प्रसर्पति समन्ततः
patrāṇi kāñcanābhāni ratnabījaphalāni ca daśayojanagandho hi prasarpati samantataḥ
whose leaves gleam like gold, and whose seeds and fruits are made of gems; their fragrance spreads for ten yojanas on every side.
Verse 37 (devibhagavatam.12.10.37)
तद्वनं रक्षितं राजन् वसन्तेनर्तुनानिशम् । पुष्पसिंहासनासीनः पुष्पच्छत्रविराजितः
tadvanaṁ rakṣitaṁ rājan vasantenartunāniśam puṣpasiṁhāsanāsīnaḥ puṣpacchatravirājitaḥ
That forest, O king, is protected ceaselessly by the season Vasanta itself, seated upon a throne of flowers, resplendent beneath a canopy of blossoms,
Verse 38 (devibhagavatam.12.10.38)
पुष्पभूषाभूषितश्च पुष्पासवविघूर्णितः । मधुश्रीर्माधवश्रीश्च द्वे भार्ये तस्य सम्मते
puṣpabhūṣābhūṣitaśca puṣpāsavavighūrṇitaḥ madhuśrīrmādhavaśrīśca dve bhārye tasya sammate
adorned with ornaments of flowers, swaying with the wine of flowers; Madhushri and Madhavashri are his two beloved wives,
Verse 39 (devibhagavatam.12.10.39)
क्रीडतः स्मेरवदने सुमस्तबककन्दुकैः । अतीव रम्यं विपिनं मधुस्रावि समन्ततः
krīḍataḥ smeravadane sumastabakakandukaiḥ atīva ramyaṁ vipinaṁ madhusrāvi samantataḥ
who play with smiling faces, using clusters of blossoms as playthings; the forest is exceedingly delightful, dripping with honey on every side,
Verse 40 (devibhagavatam.12.10.40)
दशयोजनपर्यन्तं कुसुमामोदवायुना । पूरितं दिव्यगन्धर्वैः साङ्गनैर्गानलोलुपैः
daśayojanaparyantaṁ kusumāmodavāyunā pūritaṁ divyagandharvaiḥ sāṅganairgānalolupaiḥ
filled for ten yojanas around with the fragrant breeze of flowers, and with divine Gandharvas, together with their wives, who delight in singing —
Verse 41 (devibhagavatam.12.10.41)
शोभितं तद्वनं दिव्यं मत्तकोकिलनादितम् । वसन्तलक्ष्मीसंयुक्तं कामिकामप्रवर्धनम्
śobhitaṁ tadvanaṁ divyaṁ mattakokilanāditam vasantalakṣmīsaṁyuktaṁ kāmikāmapravardhanam
— that divine forest is beautified, resounding with the calls of intoxicated cuckoos, joined with the glory of Vasanta, ever increasing the desires of lovers.
Verse 42 (devibhagavatam.12.10.42)
ताम्रसालादुत्तरत्र सीससालः प्रकीर्तितः । समुच्छ्रायः स्मृतोऽप्यस्य सप्तयोजनसङ्ख्यया
tāmrasālāduttaratra sīsasālaḥ prakīrtitaḥ samucchrāyaḥ smṛto'pyasya saptayojanasaṅkhyayā
Beyond the copper rampart, a rampart of lead is declared; its height too is remembered as measuring seven yojanas.
Verse 43 (devibhagavatam.12.10.43)
सन्तानवाटिकामध्ये सालयोस्तु द्वयोर्नृप । दशयोजनगन्धस्तु प्रसूनानां समन्ततः
santānavāṭikāmadhye sālayostu dvayornṛpa daśayojanagandhastu prasūnānāṁ samantataḥ
Between these two ramparts lies the Santana-garden, O king, whose blossoms spread their fragrance for ten yojanas on every side;
Verse 44 (devibhagavatam.12.10.44)
हिरण्याभानि कुसुमान्युत्फुल्लानि निरन्तरम् । अमृतद्रवसंयुक्तफलानि मधुराणि च
hiraṇyābhāni kusumānyutphullāni nirantaram amṛtadravasaṁyuktaphalāni madhurāṇi ca
its flowers, gleaming like gold, are perpetually in full bloom, and its fruits, sweet and filled with nectar-like juice —
Verse 45 (devibhagavatam.12.10.45)
ग्रीष्मर्तुर्नायकस्तस्या वाटिकाया नृपोत्तम । शुक्रश्रीश्च शुचिश्रीश्च द्वे भार्ये तस्य सम्मते
grīṣmarturnāyakastasyā vāṭikāyā nṛpottama śukraśrīśca śuciśrīśca dve bhārye tasya sammate
— O best of kings, the season Grishma is the lord of that garden; Shukrashri and Shuchishri are his two beloved wives.
Verse 46 (devibhagavatam.12.10.46)
सन्तापत्रस्तलोकास्तु वृक्षमूलेषु संस्थिताः । नानासिद्धैः परिवृतो नानादेवैः समन्वितः
santāpatrastalokāstu vṛkṣamūleṣu saṁsthitāḥ nānāsiddhaiḥ parivṛto nānādevaiḥ samanvitaḥ
Beings distressed by the heat take shelter at the foot of its trees; he is surrounded by manifold Siddhas and accompanied by manifold gods.
Verse 47 (devibhagavatam.12.10.47)
विलासिनीनां वृन्दैस्तु चन्दनद्रवपङ्किलैः । पुष्पमालाभूषितैस्तु तालवृन्तकराम्बुजैः
vilāsinīnāṁ vṛndaistu candanadravapaṅkilaiḥ puṣpamālābhūṣitaistu tālavṛntakarāmbujaiḥ
With troops of graceful women smeared with liquid sandal-paste, adorned with garlands of flowers, palm-leaf fans in their lotus-hands,
Verse 48 (devibhagavatam.12.10.48)
प्राकारः शोभितो राजञ्छीतलाम्बुनिषेविभिः । सीससालादुत्तरत्राप्यारकूटमयः शुभः
prākāraḥ śobhito rājañchītalāmbuniṣevibhiḥ sīsasālāduttaratrāpyārakūṭamayaḥ śubhaḥ
the rampart is beautified, O king, by those who partake of cool waters. Beyond the lead rampart lies an auspicious rampart made of white brass,
Verse 49 (devibhagavatam.12.10.49)
प्राकारो वर्तते राजन् मुनियोजनदैर्घ्यवान् । हरिचन्दनवृक्षाणां वाटी मध्ये तयोः स्मृता
prākāro vartate rājan muniyojanadairghyavān haricandanavṛkṣāṇāṁ vāṭī madhye tayoḥ smṛtā
O king, seven yojanas in extent. Between the two is remembered the garden of harichandana trees,
Verse 50 (devibhagavatam.12.10.50)
सालयोरधिनाथस्तु वर्षर्तुर्मेघवाहनः । विद्युत्पिङ्गलनेत्रश्च जीमूतकवचः स्मृतः
sālayoradhināthastu varṣarturmeghavāhanaḥ vidyutpiṅgalanetraśca jīmūtakavacaḥ smṛtaḥ
whose lord is the season Varsha, riding upon a cloud, his eyes tawny like lightning, remembered as clad in armor of thundercloud,
Verse 51 (devibhagavatam.12.10.51)
वज्रनिर्घोषमुखरश्चेन्द्रधन्वा समन्ततः । सहस्रशो वारिधारा मुञ्चन्नास्ते गणावृतः
vajranirghoṣamukharaścendradhanvā samantataḥ sahasraśo vāridhārā muñcannāste gaṇāvṛtaḥ
his voice roaring like the thunderbolt, the rainbow arching all around him; he sits releasing thousands of streams of rain, surrounded by his hosts —

नभःश्रीश्च नभस्यश्रीः स्वरस्या रस्यमालिनी । अम्बा दुला निरत्निश्चाभ्रमन्ती मेघयन्तिका
nabhaḥśrīśca nabhasyaśrīḥ svarasyā rasyamālinī ambā dulā niratniścābhramantī meghayantikā

वर्षयन्ती चिपुणिका वारिधारा च सम्मताः । वर्षर्तोर्द्वादश प्रोक्ताः शक्तयो मदविह्वलाः
varṣayantī cipuṇikā vāridhārā ca sammatāḥ varṣartordvādaśa proktāḥ śaktayo madavihvalāḥ
Varshayanti, Chipunika, and Varidhara — these twelve are declared to be the powers of the season Varsha, made intoxicated with the season's fullness.

filled with the great bliss arising from manifold enjoyments, together with their consorts, surrounded by their retinues in troops.

Whatever gem the rampart is made of, the trees there are fashioned of that same gem; and likewise the forest floor, the birds, and the waters, colored like that gem.

मण्डपा मण्डपस्तम्भाः सरांसि कमलानि च । प्राकारे तत्र यद्यत्स्यात्तत्सर्वं तत्समं भवेत्

The pavilions, the pillars of the pavilions, the lakes, and the lotuses — whatever exists within each rampart, all of it is fashioned to match that rampart's own gem.

परिभाषेयमुद्दिष्टा रत्नसालादिषु प्रभो । तेजसा स्याल्लक्षगुणः पूर्वसालात्परो नृप

O Lord, this rule is declared to hold for the jeweled ramparts and the rest; each one, O king, is a hundred-thousandfold greater in splendor than the rampart before it.

दिक्पाला निवसन्त्यत्र प्रतिब्रह्माण्डवर्तिनाम् । दिक्पालानां समष्ट्यात्मरूपाः स्फूर्जद्वरायुधाः

and whatever splendor exists in heaven itself is here a thousandfold greater — for this is remembered as the collective, essential form of the thousand-eyed one himself.

ऐरावतसमारूढो वज्रहस्तः प्रतापवान् । देवसेनापरिवृतो राजतेऽत्र शतक्रतुः
