The Devi's Speech to the Gods

Verse 1 (devibhagavatam.4.19.1)

व्यास उवाच । इत्युक्त्वा भगवान्विष्णुः पुनराह प्रजापतिम् । यन्मायामोहितः सर्वस्तत्त्वं जानाति नो जनः ॥

vyāsa uvāca | ityuktvā bhagavānviṣṇuḥ punarāha prajāpatim | yanmāyāmohitaḥ sarvastattvaṁ jānāti no janaḥ ||

Vyasa said: Having said this, the Lord Vishnu spoke again to Prajapati: "Because all people are deluded by Maya, no one knows the truth."

Verse 2 (devibhagavatam.4.19.2)

वयं मायावृताः कामं न स्मरामो जगद्गुरुम् । परमं पुरुषं शान्तं सच्चिदानन्दमव्ययम् ॥

vayaṁ māyāvṛtāḥ kāmaṁ na smarāmo jagadgurum | paramaṁ puruṣaṁ śāntaṁ saccidānandamavyayam ||

"We, enveloped by Maya, do not remember at all the world's Guru, the Supreme Person, tranquil, being-consciousness-bliss, imperishable."

Verse 3 (devibhagavatam.4.19.3)

अहं विष्णुरहं ब्रह्मा शिवोऽहमिति मोहिताः । न जानीमो वयं धातः परं वस्तु सनातनम् ॥

ahaṁ viṣṇurahaṁ brahmā śivo'hamiti mohitāḥ | na jānīmo vayaṁ dhātaḥ paraṁ vastu sanātanam ||

"Deluded, we think, 'I am Vishnu,' 'I am Brahma,' 'I am Shiva' — we do not know, O Dhata, that supreme, eternal reality."

Verse 4 (devibhagavatam.4.19.4)

यन्मायामोहितश्चाहं सदा वर्ते परात्मनः । परवान्दारुपाञ्चाली मायिकस्य यथा वशे ॥

yanmāyāmohitaścāhaṁ sadā varte parātmanaḥ | paravāndārupāñcālī māyikasya yathā vaśe ||

"Because, deluded by her Maya, I always remain subject to that Supreme Self — dependent, like a wooden puppet in the hand of a puppeteer."

Verse 5 (devibhagavatam.4.19.5)

भवतापि तथा दृष्टा विभूतिस्तस्य चाद्भुता । कल्पादौ भवयुक्तेन मयापि च सुधार्णवे ॥

bhavatāpi tathā dṛṣṭā vibhūtistasya cādbhutā | kalpādau bhavayuktena mayāpi ca sudhārṇave ||

"By you too, in this manner, her wondrous glory was witnessed — by me as well, endowed with existence at the beginning of the Kalpa, in the ocean of nectar."

Verse 6 (devibhagavatam.4.19.6)

मणिद्वीपेऽथ मन्दारविटपे रासमण्डले । समाजे तत्र सा दृष्टा श्रुता न वचसापि च ॥

maṇidvīpe'tha mandāraviṭape rāsamaṇḍale | samāje tatra sā dṛṣṭā śrutā na vacasāpi ca ||

"In Manidvipa, beneath the Mandara tree's branch, in the circle of the Rasa dance, in that assembly, she was seen there — but never grasped even by speech."

Verse 7 (devibhagavatam.4.19.7)

तस्मात्तां परमां शक्तिं स्मरन्त्वद्य सुराः शिवाम् । सर्वकामप्रदां मायामाद्यां शक्तिं परात्मनः ॥

tasmāttāṁ paramāṁ śaktiṁ smarantvadya surāḥ śivām | sarvakāmapradāṁ māyāmādyāṁ śaktiṁ parātmanaḥ ||

"Therefore let the gods today remember that supreme power, the auspicious one, granter of all desires, Maya, the primal power of the Supreme Self."

Verse 8 (devibhagavatam.4.19.8)

व्यास उवाच । इत्युक्ता हरिणा देवा ब्रह्माद्या भुवनेश्वरीम् । सस्मरुर्मनसा देवीं योगमायां सनातनीम् ॥

vyāsa uvāca | ityuktā hariṇā devā brahmādyā bhuvaneśvarīm | sasmarurmanasā devīṁ yogamāyāṁ sanātanīm ||

Vyasa said: Thus addressed by Hari, the gods, headed by Brahma, remembered in their minds the mistress of the universe, the eternal Devi Yogamaya.

Verse 9 (devibhagavatam.4.19.9)

स्मृतमात्रा तदा देवी प्रत्यक्षं दर्शनं ददौ । पाशाङ्कुशवराभीतिधरा देवी जपारुणा । दृष्ट्वा प्रमुदिता देवास्तुष्टुवुस्तां सुदर्शनाम् ॥

smṛtamātrā tadā devī pratyakṣaṁ darśanaṁ dadau | pāśāṅkuśavarābhītidharā devī japāruṇā | dṛṣṭvā pramuditā devāstuṣṭuvustāṁ sudarśanām ||

The moment she was remembered, the Devi gave her visible manifestation — bearing the noose, goad, and gestures of boon and fearlessness, red as the japa flower; seeing her, the gods rejoiced and praised that beautiful vision.

Verse 10 (devibhagavatam.4.19.10)

देवा ऊचुः । ऊर्णनाभाद्यथा तन्तुर्विस्फुलिङ्गा विभावसोः । तथा जगद्यदेतस्या निर्गतं तां नता वयम् ॥

devā ūcuḥ | ūrṇanābhādyathā tanturvisphuliṅgā vibhāvasoḥ | tathā jagadyadetasyā nirgataṁ tāṁ natā vayam ||

The gods said: "As a thread from a spider, or sparks from fire — so has this universe emerged from her; we bow to her."

Verse 11 (devibhagavatam.4.19.11)

यन्मायाशक्तिसङ्कॢप्तं जगत्सर्वं चराचरम् । तां चितं भुवनाधीशां स्मरामः करुणार्णवाम् ॥

yanmāyāśaktisaṅkḷptaṁ jagatsarvaṁ carācaram | tāṁ citaṁ bhuvanādhīśāṁ smarāmaḥ karuṇārṇavām ||

"That which — this entire moving and unmoving universe — was formed by the power of her Maya, that Consciousness, mistress of the worlds, ocean of compassion, we remember."

Verse 12 (devibhagavatam.4.19.12)

यदज्ञानाद्भवोत्पत्तिर्यज्ज्ञानाद्भवनाशनम् । संविद्रूपां च तां देवीं स्मरामः सा प्रचोदयात् ॥

yadajñānādbhavotpattiryajjñānādbhavanāśanam | saṁvidrūpāṁ ca tāṁ devīṁ smarāmaḥ sā pracodayāt ||

"She by whose ignorance the world's arising occurs, and by whose knowledge the world's destruction occurs — that Devi of the form of pure Consciousness we remember; may she inspire us."

Verse 13 (devibhagavatam.4.19.13)

महालक्ष्यै च विद्महे सर्वशक्त्यै च धीमहि । तन्नो देवी प्रचोदयात् ॥

mahālakṣyai ca vidmahe sarvaśaktyai ca dhīmahi | tanno devī pracodayāt ||

"Om, we know Mahalakshmi, and we meditate upon the All-Powerful; may that Devi inspire us."

Verse 14 (devibhagavatam.4.19.14)

मातर्नताः स्म भुवनार्तिहरे प्रसीद शन्तो विधेहि कुरु कार्यमिदं दयार्द्रे । भारं हरस्व विनिहत्य सुरारिवर्गं मह्या महेश्वरि सतां कुरु शं भवानि ॥

mātarnatāḥ sma bhuvanārtihare prasīda śanto vidhehi kuru kāryamidaṁ dayārdre | bhāraṁ harasva vinihatya surārivargaṁ mahyā maheśvari satāṁ kuru śaṁ bhavāni ||

"O Mother, we bow to you, remover of the world's affliction; be gracious. Grant us peace, do this deed, O one melting with compassion. Remove the burden, having struck down the host of the gods' foes, upon the earth, O Maheshvari; grant peace to the virtuous, O Bhavani."

Verse 15 (devibhagavatam.4.19.15)

यद्यम्बुजाक्षि दयसे न सुरान्कदाचित् किं ते क्षमा रणमुखेऽसिशरैः प्रहर्तुम् । एतत्त्वयैव गदितं ननु यक्षरूपं धृत्वा तृणं दह हुताश पदाभिलाषैः ॥

yadyambujākṣi dayase na surānkadācit kiṁ te kṣamā raṇamukhe'siśaraiḥ prahartum | etattvayaiva gaditaṁ nanu yakṣarūpaṁ dhṛtvā tṛṇaṁ daha hutāśa padābhilāṣaiḥ ||

"If, O lotus-eyed one, you never show compassion to the gods, are you unable to strike with sword and arrows in the forefront of battle? This indeed was declared by you yourself, having taken the form of a Yaksha: 'Burn this blade of grass' — to the fire that longed for its own glory."

Verse 16 (devibhagavatam.4.19.16)

कंसः कुजोऽथ यवनेन्द्रसुतश्च केशी बार्हद्रथो बकबकीखरशाल्वमुख्याः । येऽन्ये तथा नृपतयो भुवि सन्ति तांस्त्वं हत्वा हरस्व जगतो भरमाशु मातः ॥

kaṁsaḥ kujo'tha yavanendrasutaśca keśī bārhadratho bakabakīkharaśālvamukhyāḥ | ye'nye tathā nṛpatayo bhuvi santi tāṁstvaṁ hatvā harasva jagato bharamāśu mātaḥ ||

"Kamsa, and Kuja, and the son of the Yavana king, and Keshi; Barhadratha, Baka, Bakī, Khara, and the chief Shalva — and whatever other kings there are upon the earth, slay them, and swiftly remove the burden of the world, O Mother."

Verse 17 (devibhagavatam.4.19.17)

ये विष्णुना न निहताः किल शङ्करेण ये वा विगृह्य जलजाक्षि पुरन्दरेण । ते ते मुखं सुखकरं सुसमीक्षमाणाः सङ्ख्ये शरैर्विनिहता निजलीलया ते ॥

ye viṣṇunā na nihatāḥ kila śaṅkareṇa ye vā vigṛhya jalajākṣi purandareṇa | te te mukhaṁ sukhakaraṁ susamīkṣamāṇāḥ saṅkhye śarairvinihatā nijalīlayā te ||

"Those who were not slain by Vishnu, nor indeed by Shankara, or who, O lotus-eyed one, contended even with Purandara — those very ones, gazing eagerly upon your pleasing face, shall be struck down in battle with arrows, by your own sport."

Verse 18 (devibhagavatam.4.19.18)

शक्तिं विना हरिहरप्रमुखाः सुराश्च ॥ नैवेश्वरा विचलितुं तव देवदेवि । किं धारणाविरहितः प्रभुरप्यनन्तो धर्तुं धराञ्च रजनीशकलावतंसे ॥

śaktiṁ vinā hariharapramukhāḥ surāśca || naiveśvarā vicalituṁ tava devadevi | kiṁ dhāraṇāvirahitaḥ prabhurapyananto dhartuṁ dharāñca rajanīśakalāvataṁse ||

"Without your power, Hari, Hara, and the other chief gods are not at all capable of stirring, O Devi of the gods. Is even the boundless Ananta, devoid of your sustaining power, able to bear the earth, O crest-jewel adorned with a digit of the moon?"

Verse 19 (devibhagavatam.4.19.19)

इन्द्र उवाच । वाचा विना विधिरलं भवतीह विश्वं कर्तुं हरिः किमु रमारहितोऽथ पातुम् । संहर्तुमीश उमयोज्झित ईश्वरः किं ते ताभिरेव सहिताः प्रभवः प्रजेशाः ॥

indra uvāca | vācā vinā vidhiralaṁ bhavatīha viśvaṁ kartuṁ hariḥ kimu ramārahito'tha pātum | saṁhartumīśa umayojjhita īśvaraḥ kiṁ te tābhireva sahitāḥ prabhavaḥ prajeśāḥ ||

Indra said: "Without speech, is the Ordainer able to create this universe here? Is Hari, without Rama, able to sustain it? Is Ishvara, deprived of Uma, able to destroy it? Are these lords, the rulers of creatures, capable only when united with them?"

Verse 20 (devibhagavatam.4.19.20)

विष्णुरुवाच । कर्तुं प्रभुर्न द्रुहिणो न कदाचनाहं नापीश्वरस्तव कलारहितस्त्रिलोक्याः । कर्तुं प्रभुत्वमनघेऽत्र तथा विहर्तुं त्वं वै समस्तविभवेश्वरि भासि नूनम् ॥

viṣṇuruvāca | kartuṁ prabhurna druhiṇo na kadācanāhaṁ nāpīśvarastava kalārahitastrilokyāḥ | kartuṁ prabhutvamanaghe'tra tathā vihartuṁ tvaṁ vai samastavibhaveśvari bhāsi nūnam ||

Vishnu said: "Drughina is never at all capable of creating, nor am I; nor is Ishvara capable, without your portion, O sinless one, of governing the three worlds — of creation and likewise of withdrawal in this. You, O Devi, mistress of all majesty, truly shine as capable."

Verse 21 (devibhagavatam.4.19.21)

व्यास उवाच । एवं स्तुता तदा देवी तानाह विबुधेश्वरान् । किं तत्कार्यं वदन्त्वद्य करोमि विगतज्वराः ॥

vyāsa uvāca | evaṁ stutā tadā devī tānāha vibudheśvarān | kiṁ tatkāryaṁ vadantvadya karomi vigatajvarāḥ ||

Vyasa said: Thus praised, the Devi then said to those lords of the gods: "Tell me now, freed from your torment, what work I should do."

Verse 22 (devibhagavatam.4.19.22)

असाध्यमपि लोकेऽस्मिंस्तत्करोमि सुरेप्सितम् । शंसन्तु भवतां दुःखं धरायाश्च सुरोत्तमाः ॥

asādhyamapi loke'smiṁstatkaromi surepsitam | śaṁsantu bhavatāṁ duḥkhaṁ dharāyāśca surottamāḥ ||

"Even what is impossible in this world, I shall do, if it be desired by the gods. Declare, O best of gods, your sorrow, and that of the Earth."

Verse 23 (devibhagavatam.4.19.23)

देवा ऊचुः । वसुधेयं भराक्रान्ता सम्प्राप्ता विबुधान्प्रति । रुदती वेपमाना च पीडिता दुष्टभूभुजैः ॥

devā ūcuḥ | vasudheyaṁ bharākrāntā samprāptā vibudhānprati | rudatī vepamānā ca pīḍitā duṣṭabhūbhujaiḥ ||

The gods said: "This Earth, oppressed by her burden, has come before the gods, weeping and trembling, afflicted by wicked rulers."

Verse 24 (devibhagavatam.4.19.24)

भारापहरणं चास्याः कर्तव्यं भुवनेश्वरि । देवानामीष्मित कार्यमेतदेवाधुना शिवे ॥

bhārāpaharaṇaṁ cāsyāḥ kartavyaṁ bhuvaneśvari | devānāmīṣmita kāryametadevādhunā śive ||

"The removal of her burden must be accomplished, O mistress of the worlds; this alone is the desired task of the gods now, O auspicious one."

Verse 25 (devibhagavatam.4.19.25)

घातितस्तु पुरा मातस्त्वया महिषरूपभृत् । दानवोऽतिबलाक्रान्तस्तत्सहायाश्च कोटिशः ॥

ghātitastu purā mātastvayā mahiṣarūpabhṛt | dānavo'tibalākrāntastatsahāyāśca koṭiśaḥ ||

"In the past, O Mother, the buffalo-formed demon, of immense strength, and his allies numbering in the millions, were slain by you."

Verse 26 (devibhagavatam.4.19.26)

तथा शुम्भो निशुम्भश्च रक्तबीजस्तथापरः । चण्डमुण्डौ महावीर्यौ तथैव धूम्रलोचनः ॥

tathā śumbho niśumbhaśca raktabījastathāparaḥ | caṇḍamuṇḍau mahāvīryau tathaiva dhūmralocanaḥ ||

"So too Shumbha and Nishumbha, and Raktabija as well, and Chanda and Munda of great valor, and likewise Dhumralochana."

Verse 27 (devibhagavatam.4.19.27)

दुर्मुखो दुःसहश्चैव करालश्चाति वीर्यवान् । अन्ये च बहवः क्रूरास्त्वयैव च निपातिताः ॥

durmukho duḥsahaścaiva karālaścāti vīryavān | anye ca bahavaḥ krūrāstvayaiva ca nipātitāḥ ||

"Durmukha, Duhsaha, and the exceedingly valiant Karala, and many other cruel ones — all were struck down by you alone."

Verse 28 (devibhagavatam.4.19.28)

तथैव च सुरारींश्च जहि सर्वान्महीश्वरान् । (भारं हर धरायाश्च दुर्धरं दुष्टभूभुजां ।)॥ व्यास उवाच । इत्युक्ता सा तदा देवी देवानाहाम्बिका शिवा ॥

tathaiva ca surārīṁśca jahi sarvānmahīśvarān | (bhāraṁ hara dharāyāśca durdharaṁ duṣṭabhūbhujāṁ |)|| vyāsa uvāca | ityuktā sā tadā devī devānāhāmbikā śivā ||

"So likewise, slay all these enemies of the gods, these lords of the earth — (remove the earth's unbearable burden of wicked rulers)." Vyasa said: Thus addressed, that Devi, the auspicious Ambika, then said to the gods —

Verse 29 (devibhagavatam.4.19.29)

सम्प्रहस्यासितापाङ्गी मेघगम्भीरया गिरा । श्रीदेव्युवाच । मयेदं चिन्तितं पूर्वमंशावतरणं सुराः ॥

samprahasyāsitāpāṅgī meghagambhīrayā girā | śrīdevyuvāca | mayedaṁ cintitaṁ pūrvamaṁśāvataraṇaṁ surāḥ ||

— laughing gently, that dark-eyed one, in a voice deep as a cloud. Shri Devi said: "This has already been considered by me before, O gods — this partial descent of divine portions —"

Verse 30 (devibhagavatam.4.19.30)

भारावतरणं चैव यथा स्याद्दुष्टभूभुजाम् । मया सर्वे निहन्तव्या दैत्येशा ये महीभुजः ॥

bhārāvataraṇaṁ caiva yathā syādduṣṭabhūbhujām | mayā sarve nihantavyā daityeśā ye mahībhujaḥ ||

"— and the removal of the burden, so that it may fall upon the wicked rulers of the earth. All the demon kings, the lords of the earth, must be slain by me —"

Verse 31 (devibhagavatam.4.19.31)

मागधाद्या महाभागाः स्वशक्त्या मन्दतेजसः । भवद्भिरपि स्वैरंशैरवतीर्य धरातले ॥

māgadhādyā mahābhāgāḥ svaśaktyā mandatejasaḥ | bhavadbhirapi svairaṁśairavatīrya dharātale ||

"— Magadha and the other most-favored ones, of diminished power through their own strength alone — by you too, having descended to the earth with your own portions —"

Verse 32 (devibhagavatam.4.19.32)

मच्छक्तियुक्तैः कर्तव्यं भारावतरणं सुराः । कश्यपो भार्यया सार्धं दिविजानां प्रजापतिः ॥

macchaktiyuktaiḥ kartavyaṁ bhārāvataraṇaṁ surāḥ | kaśyapo bhāryayā sārdhaṁ divijānāṁ prajāpatiḥ ||

"— the removal of the burden must be accomplished by you, O gods, endowed with my power. Kashyapa, together with his wife, the Prajapati of the celestials —"

Verse 33 (devibhagavatam.4.19.33)

यादवानां कुले पूर्वं भविताऽऽनकदुन्दुभिः । तथैव भृगुशापाद्वै भगवान्विष्णुरव्ययः ॥

yādavānāṁ kule pūrvaṁ bhavitā''nakadundubhiḥ | tathaiva bhṛguśāpādvai bhagavānviṣṇuravyayaḥ ||

"— shall become Anakadundubhi, in the lineage of the Yadavas; and likewise, by Bhrigu's curse, the imperishable Lord Vishnu —"

Verse 34 (devibhagavatam.4.19.34)

अंशेन भविता तत्र वसुदेवसुतो हरिः । तदाहं प्रभविष्यामि यशोदायां च गोकुले ॥

aṁśena bhavitā tatra vasudevasuto hariḥ | tadāhaṁ prabhaviṣyāmi yaśodāyāṁ ca gokule ||

"— shall, by a portion, become there Hari, son of Vasudeva; then I shall manifest myself in Yashoda, in Gokula."

Verse 35 (devibhagavatam.4.19.35)

कार्यं सर्वं करिष्यामि सुराणां सुरसत्तमाः । कारागारे गतं विष्णुं प्रापयिष्यामि गोकुले ॥

kāryaṁ sarvaṁ kariṣyāmi surāṇāṁ surasattamāḥ | kārāgāre gataṁ viṣṇuṁ prāpayiṣyāmi gokule ||

"I shall accomplish all the work of the gods, O best of gods; I shall cause Vishnu, born in the prison, to be brought to Gokula."

Verse 36 (devibhagavatam.4.19.36)

शेषं च देवकीगर्भात्प्रापयिष्यामि रोहिणीम् । मच्छक्त्योपचितौ तौ च कर्तारौ दुष्टसङ्क्षयम् ॥

śeṣaṁ ca devakīgarbhātprāpayiṣyāmi rohiṇīm | macchaktyopacitau tau ca kartārau duṣṭasaṅkṣayam ||

"And I shall cause Shesha, from Devaki's womb, to be transferred to Rohini. Those two, augmented by my power, shall be the agents of the destruction of the wicked —"

Verse 37 (devibhagavatam.4.19.37)

दुष्टानां भूभुजां कामं द्वापरान्ते सुनिश्चितम् । इन्द्रांशोऽप्यर्जुनः साक्षात्करिष्यति बलक्षयम् ॥

duṣṭānāṁ bhūbhujāṁ kāmaṁ dvāparānte suniścitam | indrāṁśo'pyarjunaḥ sākṣātkariṣyati balakṣayam ||

"— of the wicked rulers of the earth, most certainly, at the end of the Dvapara. Arjuna too, the very portion of Indra, shall accomplish the destruction of their strength."

Verse 38 (devibhagavatam.4.19.38)

धर्मांशोऽपि महाराजो भविष्यति युधिष्ठिरः । वाय्वंशो भीमसेनश्चाश्विन्यंशौ च यमावपि ॥

dharmāṁśo'pi mahārājo bhaviṣyati yudhiṣṭhiraḥ | vāyvaṁśo bhīmasenaścāśvinyaṁśau ca yamāvapi ||

"The portion of Dharma too shall become the great king Yudhishthira; the portion of Vayu, Bhimasena; and the portions of the Ashvins, the twin brothers."

Verse 39 (devibhagavatam.4.19.39)

वसोरंशोऽथ गाङ्गेयः करिष्यति बलक्षयम् । व्रजन्तु च भवन्तोऽद्य धरा भवतु सुस्थिरा ॥

vasoraṁśo'tha gāṅgeyaḥ kariṣyati balakṣayam | vrajantu ca bhavanto'dya dharā bhavatu susthirā ||

"And the portion of Vasu, the son of Ganga, shall accomplish the destruction of their strength. Go now, all of you; let the Earth become firmly stable."

Verse 40 (devibhagavatam.4.19.40)

भारावतरणं नूनं करिष्यामि सुरोत्तमाः । कृत्वा निमित्तमात्रांस्तान्स्वशक्त्याहं न संशयः ॥

bhārāvataraṇaṁ nūnaṁ kariṣyāmi surottamāḥ | kṛtvā nimittamātrāṁstānsvaśaktyāhaṁ na saṁśayaḥ ||

"I shall surely accomplish the removal of the burden, O best of gods; making them merely the instrumental cause, I, by my own power, shall do it — of this there is no doubt."

Verse 41 (devibhagavatam.4.19.41)

कुरुक्षेत्रे करिष्यामि क्षत्त्रियाणां च सङ्क्षयम् । असूयेर्ष्या मतिस्तृष्णा ममताभिमता स्पृहा ॥

kurukṣetre kariṣyāmi kṣattriyāṇāṁ ca saṅkṣayam | asūyerṣyā matistṛṣṇā mamatābhimatā spṛhā ||

"At Kurukshetra I shall bring about the destruction of the Kshatriyas. Envy, jealousy, malice, greed, possessiveness, self-regard, longing —"

Verse 42 (devibhagavatam.4.19.42)

जिगीषा मदनो मोहो दोषैर्नक्ष्यन्ति यादवाः । ब्राह्मणस्य च शापेन वंशनाशो भविष्यति ॥

jigīṣā madano moho doṣairnakṣyanti yādavāḥ | brāhmaṇasya ca śāpena vaṁśanāśo bhaviṣyati ||

"— ambition, lust, delusion — by these faults, the Yadavas shall perish; and by a Brahmin's curse, the destruction of their lineage shall occur."

Verse 43 (devibhagavatam.4.19.43)

भगवानपि शापेन त्यक्ष्यत्येतत्कलेवरम् । भवन्तोऽपि निजाङ्गैश्च सहायाः शार्ङ्गधन्वनः ॥

bhagavānapi śāpena tyakṣyatyetatkalevaram | bhavanto'pi nijāṅgaiśca sahāyāḥ śārṅgadhanvanaḥ ||

"The Lord too shall, by a curse, relinquish this body. You too, with your own portions as allies, accompanying the wielder of the Sharnga bow —"

Verse 44 (devibhagavatam.4.19.44)

प्रभवन्तु सनारीका मथुरायां च गोकुले । व्यास उवाच । इत्युक्त्वान्तर्दधे देवी योगमाया परात्मनः ॥

prabhavantu sanārīkā mathurāyāṁ ca gokule | vyāsa uvāca | ityuktvāntardadhe devī yogamāyā parātmanaḥ ||

"— manifest yourselves, together with your consorts, in Mathura and in Gokula." Vyasa said: Having said this, the Devi Yogamaya vanished, into the Supreme Self.

Verse 45 (devibhagavatam.4.19.45)

सधरा वै सुराः सर्वे जग्मुः स्वान्यालयानि च । धरापि सुस्थिरा जाता तस्या वाक्येन तोषिता ॥

sadharā vai surāḥ sarve jagmuḥ svānyālayāni ca | dharāpi susthirā jātā tasyā vākyena toṣitā ||

Together with the Earth, all the gods went to their own abodes; and the Earth too became firmly steady, gladdened by her words.

Verse 46 (devibhagavatam.4.19.46)

ओषधीवीरुधोपेता बभूव जनमेजय । प्रजाश्च सुखिनो जाता द्विजाश्चापुर्महोदयम् । सन्तुष्टा मुनयः सर्वे बभूबुर्धर्मतत्पराः ॥

oṣadhīvīrudhopetā babhūva janamejaya | prajāśca sukhino jātā dvijāścāpurmahodayam | santuṣṭā munayaḥ sarve babhūburdharmatatparāḥ ||

O Janamejaya, she became covered with herbs and creepers; the subjects became happy, and the twice-born attained great prosperity; all the sages became content and devoted to dharma.
