Verse 1 (devibhagavatam.6.19.1)

व्यास उवाच । तस्यै दत्त्वा वरं शम्भुः कैलासं त्वरितो ययौ । रम्यं देवगणैर्जुष्टमप्सरोभिश्च मण्डितम्

vyāsa uvāca | tasyai dattvā varaṁ śambhuḥ kailāsaṁ tvarito yayau | ramyaṁ devagaṇairjuṣṭamapsarobhiśca maṇḍitam

Vyasa said: Having given her this boon, Shambhu swiftly returned to Kailasa, that lovely place, frequented by hosts of gods and adorned with apsaras.

Verse 2 (devibhagavatam.6.19.2)

तत्र गत्वा चित्ररूपं गणं कार्यविशारदम् । प्रेषयामास वैकुण्ठे लक्ष्मीकार्यार्थसिद्धये

tatra gatvā citrarūpaṁ gaṇaṁ kāryaviśāradam | preṣayāmāsa vaikuṇṭhe lakṣmīkāryārthasiddhaye

Going there, he sent Chitrarupa, an attendant skilled in such tasks, to Vaikuntha, for the accomplishment of Lakshmi's purpose.

Verse 3 (devibhagavatam.6.19.3)

शिव उवाच । चित्ररूप हरिं गत्वा ब्रूहि त्वं वचनान्मम । यथासौ दुःखितां पत्नीं विशोकां च करिष्यति

śiva uvāca | citrarūpa hariṁ gatvā brūhi tvaṁ vacanānmama | yathāsau duḥkhitāṁ patnīṁ viśokāṁ ca kariṣyati

Shiva said: 'O Chitrarupa, go to Hari and speak to him on my behalf, so that he may free his sorrowing wife from grief.'

Verse 4 (devibhagavatam.6.19.4)

इत्युक्तश्चित्ररूपोऽथ निर्जगाम त्वरान्वितः । वैकुण्ठं परमं स्थानं वैष्णवैश्च गणैर्वृतम्

ityuktaścitrarūpo'tha nirjagāma tvarānvitaḥ | vaikuṇṭhaṁ paramaṁ sthānaṁ vaiṣṇavaiśca gaṇairvṛtam

Thus commanded, Chitrarupa set out at once, with speed, for Vaikuntha, that supreme abode thronged with the hosts of Vishnu's attendants —

Verse 5 (devibhagavatam.6.19.5)

नानाद्रुमगणाकीर्णं वापीशतविराजितम् । सञ्जुष्टं हंसकारण्डमयूरशुककोकिलैः

nānādrumagaṇākīrṇaṁ vāpīśatavirājitam | sañjuṣṭaṁ haṁsakāraṇḍamayūraśukakokilaiḥ

filled with countless kinds of trees, resplendent with hundreds of ponds, thronged with swans, karandava ducks, peacocks, parrots, and cuckoos,

Verse 6 (devibhagavatam.6.19.6)

उच्चप्रासादसंयुक्तं पताकाभिरलङ्कृतम् । नृत्यगीतकलापूर्णं मन्दारद्रुमसंयुतम्

uccaprāsādasaṁyuktaṁ patākābhiralaṅkṛtam | nṛtyagītakalāpūrṇaṁ mandāradrumasaṁyutam

furnished with lofty palaces, adorned with banners, filled with the arts of dance and song, and abounding in mandara trees,

Verse 7 (devibhagavatam.6.19.7)

बकुलाशोकतिलकचम्पकालिविमण्डितम् । कूजितैर्विहगानां तु कर्णाह्लादकरैर्युतम्

bakulāśokatilakacampakālivimaṇḍitam | kūjitairvihagānāṁ tu karṇāhlādakarairyutam

adorned with rows of bakula, ashoka, tilaka, and champaka trees, and filled with the ear-delighting calls of birds — to that Vaikuntha.

Verse 8 (devibhagavatam.6.19.8)

संवीक्ष्य भवनं विष्णोर्द्वास्थौ प्राह प्रणम्य च । जयविजयनामानौ वेत्रपाणी स्थितावुभौ

saṁvīkṣya bhavanaṁ viṣṇordvāsthau prāha praṇamya ca | jayavijayanāmānau vetrapāṇī sthitāvubhau

Beholding that palace of Vishnu, and bowing to them, he addressed the two doorkeepers named Jaya and Vijaya, who stood there staffs in hand —

Verse 9 (devibhagavatam.6.19.9)

चित्ररूप उवाच । भो निवेदयत शीघ्रं हरये परमात्मने । दूतं प्राप्यं हरस्यात्र प्रेरितं शूलपाणिना

citrarūpa uvāca | bho nivedayata śīghraṁ haraye paramātmane | dūtaṁ prāpyaṁ harasyātra preritaṁ śūlapāṇinā

Chitrarupa said: 'O worthy ones, quickly inform Hari, the Supreme Self, that a messenger of Hara, sent by the trident-bearer, has arrived here.'

Verse 10 (devibhagavatam.6.19.10)

तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं तस्य जयः परमबुद्धिमान् । गत्वा हरिं प्रणम्याह कृताञ्जलिपुटः पुरः

tacchrutvā vacanaṁ tasya jayaḥ paramabuddhimān | gatvā hariṁ praṇamyāha kṛtāñjalipuṭaḥ puraḥ

Hearing his words, Jaya, of supreme intelligence, went and, with joined palms, bowed before Hari and said —

Verse 11 (devibhagavatam.6.19.11)

देवदेव रमाकान्त करुणाकर केशव । द्वारि तिष्ठति दूतोऽत्र शङ्करस्य समागतः

devadeva ramākānta karuṇākara keśava | dvāri tiṣṭhati dūto'tra śaṅkarasya samāgataḥ

'O god of gods, beloved of Rama, fountain of compassion, Keshava! A messenger of Shankara stands here at the gate.'

Verse 12 (devibhagavatam.6.19.12)

आज्ञापय प्रवेष्टव्यो न वेति गरुडध्वज । चित्ररूपधरोऽप्यस्ति न जाने कार्यगौरवम्

ājñāpaya praveṣṭavyo na veti garuḍadhvaja | citrarūpadharo'pyasti na jāne kāryagauravam

'Command us, O Garuda-bannered one, whether he should be admitted or not; he bears the form of Chitrarupa, but I do not know how grave his errand is.'

Verse 13 (devibhagavatam.6.19.13)

इत्याकर्ण्य हरिः प्राह जयं प्रज्ञातकारणः । प्रवेशयात्र रुद्रस्य भृत्यं समयसंस्थितम्

ityākarṇya hariḥ prāha jayaṁ prajñātakāraṇaḥ | praveśayātra rudrasya bhṛtyaṁ samayasaṁsthitam

Hearing this, Hari, who already knew the reason, said to Jaya: 'Admit this dutiful servant of Rudra.'

Verse 14 (devibhagavatam.6.19.14)

इत्याकर्ण्य जयस्तूर्णं गत्वा तं परमाद्भुतम् । एहीत्याकारयामास जयः शङ्करसेवकम्

ityākarṇya jayastūrṇaṁ gatvā taṁ paramādbhutam | ehītyākārayāmāsa jayaḥ śaṅkarasevakam

Hearing this, Jaya swiftly went to that most wondrous being, and, saying 'Come,' brought in that servant of Shankara.

Verse 15 (devibhagavatam.6.19.15)

प्रवेशितो जयेनाथ चित्ररूपस्तथाकृतिः । प्रणम्य दण्डवद्विष्णुं कृताञ्जलिपुटः स्थितः

praveśito jayenātha citrarūpastathākṛtiḥ | praṇamya daṇḍavadviṣṇuṁ kṛtāñjalipuṭaḥ sthitaḥ

Admitted by Jaya, Chitrarupa, still bearing that same form, prostrated himself before Vishnu and stood with joined palms.

Verse 16 (devibhagavatam.6.19.16)

दृष्ट्वा तं विस्मयं प्राप भगवान् गरुडध्वजः । चित्ररूपधरं शम्भोः सेवकं विनयान्वितम्

dṛṣṭvā taṁ vismayaṁ prāpa bhagavān garuḍadhvajaḥ | citrarūpadharaṁ śambhoḥ sevakaṁ vinayānvitam

Seeing him, the Lord, bannered with Garuda, was struck with wonder at this humble servant of Shambhu, bearing the form of Chitrarupa.

Verse 17 (devibhagavatam.6.19.17)

पप्रच्छ तं स्मितं कृत्वा चित्ररूपं रमापतिः । कुशलं देवदेवस्य सकुटुम्बस्य चानघ

papraccha taṁ smitaṁ kṛtvā citrarūpaṁ ramāpatiḥ | kuśalaṁ devadevasya sakuṭumbasya cānagha

Smiling, the husband of Rama asked Chitrarupa: 'O sinless one, is all well with the god of gods and his household?'

Verse 18 (devibhagavatam.6.19.18)

कस्मात्त्वं प्रेषितोऽस्यत्र ब्रूहिकार्यं हरस्य किम् । अथवा देवतानां च किञ्चित्कार्यं समुत्थितम्

kasmāttvaṁ preṣito'syatra brūhikāryaṁ harasya kim | athavā devatānāṁ ca kiñcitkāryaṁ samutthitam

'For what reason have you been sent here? Tell me — what is Hara's purpose? Or has some matter arisen among the gods?'

Verse 19 (devibhagavatam.6.19.19)

दूत उवाच । किमज्ञातं तवास्तीह संसारे गरुडध्वज । वर्तमानं त्रिकालज्ञ यदहं प्रब्रवीमि वै

dūta uvāca | kimajñātaṁ tavāstīha saṁsāre garuḍadhvaja | vartamānaṁ trikālajña yadahaṁ prabravīmi vai

The messenger said: 'O Garuda-bannered one, knower of the three times, what in this world is unknown to you, that I should tell you what is happening?'

Verse 20 (devibhagavatam.6.19.20)

प्रेषितोऽस्मि भवेनात्र विज्ञस्तु त्वां जनार्दन । हरस्य वचनाद्वाक्यं प्रब्रवीमि त्वयि प्रभो

preṣito'smi bhavenātra vijñastu tvāṁ janārdana | harasya vacanādvākyaṁ prabravīmi tvayi prabho

'I have been sent here by Bhava (Shiva); O Janardana, you already know all, yet at Hara's word I shall speak it to you, O lord —'

Verse 21 (devibhagavatam.6.19.21)

तेनोक्तमेतद्देवेश भार्या ते कमलालया । तपस्तपति कालिन्दीतमसासङ्गमे विभो

tenoktametaddeveśa bhāryā te kamalālayā | tapastapati kālindītamasāsaṅgame vibho

'He has said this: "O lord of gods, your wife, the dweller of the lotus, O mighty one, is performing austerity at the confluence of the Kalindi and the Tamasa —"'

Verse 22 (devibhagavatam.6.19.22)

हयीरूपधरा देवी सर्वार्थसिद्धिदायिनी । ध्यातुं योग्यामरगणैर्मानवैर्यक्षकिन्नरैः

hayīrūpadharā devī sarvārthasiddhidāyinī | dhyātuṁ yogyāmaragaṇairmānavairyakṣakinnaraiḥ

'"— that goddess, bearing the form of a mare, the giver of the fulfillment of all desires, worthy to be meditated upon by gods, men, yakshas, and kinnaras —"'

Verse 23 (devibhagavatam.6.19.23)

विना तया नरः कोऽपिसुखभागी भवेन्न हि । तां त्यक्त्वा पुण्डरीकाक्ष प्राप्नोषि किं सुखं हरे

vinā tayā naraḥ ko'pisukhabhāgī bhavenna hi | tāṁ tyaktvā puṇḍarīkākṣa prāpnoṣi kiṁ sukhaṁ hare

'"— without her, no man can partake of happiness. O lotus-eyed Hari, having left her, what happiness do you yourself now enjoy?"'

Verse 24 (devibhagavatam.6.19.24)

दुर्बलोऽपि स्त्रियं पाति निर्धनोऽपि जगत्पते । विनापराधं च विभो किं त्यक्ता जगदीश्वरी

durbalo'pi striyaṁ pāti nirdhano'pi jagatpate | vināparādhaṁ ca vibho kiṁ tyaktā jagadīśvarī

'"Even a weak man protects his wife, even a poor one, O lord of the world; without any fault of hers, O mighty one, why has the mistress of the universe been abandoned?"'

Verse 25 (devibhagavatam.6.19.25)

दुःखं प्राप्नोति संसारे यस्य भार्या जगद्गुरो । धिक्तस्य जीवितं लोके निन्दितं त्वरिमण्डले

duḥkhaṁ prāpnoti saṁsāre yasya bhāryā jagadguro | dhiktasya jīvitaṁ loke ninditaṁ tvarimaṇḍale

'"He whose wife suffers sorrow in this world, O teacher of the universe — shame upon his life, condemned throughout the whole world."'

Verse 26 (devibhagavatam.6.19.26)

सकामा रिपवस्तेऽद्य दृष्ट्वा तां दुःखिता भृशम् । त्वां वियुक्तं च रमया हसिष्यन्ति दिवानिशम्

sakāmā ripavaste'dya dṛṣṭvā tāṁ duḥkhitā bhṛśam | tvāṁ viyuktaṁ ca ramayā hasiṣyanti divāniśam

'"Your enemies, seeing her so greatly afflicted today, rejoice; and, seeing you separated from Rama, they will laugh at you day and night."'

Verse 27 (devibhagavatam.6.19.27)

रमां रमय देवेश त्वदुत्सङ्गगतां कुरु । सर्वलक्षणसम्पन्नां सुशीलां च सुरूपिणीम्

ramāṁ ramaya deveśa tvadutsaṅgagatāṁ kuru | sarvalakṣaṇasampannāṁ suśīlāṁ ca surūpiṇīm

'"O lord of gods, delight Rama, take her onto your own lap — she who is endowed with every auspicious mark, of good character and lovely form."'

Verse 28 (devibhagavatam.6.19.28)

सुखितो भव तां प्राप्य वल्लभां चारुहासिनीम् । कान्ताविरहजं दुःखं स्मराम्यहमनातुरः

sukhito bhava tāṁ prāpya vallabhāṁ cāruhāsinīm | kāntāvirahajaṁ duḥkhaṁ smarāmyahamanāturaḥ

'"Be happy, regaining your beloved of the lovely smile. Though I am not now afflicted myself, I still recall the sorrow born of separation from a beloved."'

Verse 29 (devibhagavatam.6.19.29)

मम भार्या मृता विष्णो दक्षयज्ञे सती यदा । तदाहं दुःसहं दुःखं भुक्तवानम्बुजेक्षण

mama bhāryā mṛtā viṣṇo dakṣayajñe satī yadā | tadāhaṁ duḥsahaṁ duḥkhaṁ bhuktavānambujekṣaṇa

'"O Vishnu, when my own wife Sati died at Daksha's sacrifice, then I, O lotus-eyed one, endured unbearable sorrow."'

Verse 30 (devibhagavatam.6.19.30)

संसारेऽस्मिन्नरः कोऽपि माभून्मत्सदृशोऽपरः । मनसाकरवं शोकं तस्या विरहपीडितः

saṁsāre'sminnaraḥ ko'pi mābhūnmatsadṛśo'paraḥ | manasākaravaṁ śokaṁ tasyā virahapīḍitaḥ

'"May no other man in this world ever become like me! Tormented by separation from her, I bore grief in my own mind."'

Verse 31 (devibhagavatam.6.19.31)

कालेन महता प्राप्ता मया गिरिसुता पुनः । तपस्तप्त्वातिदुःसाध्यं या दग्धा तु रुषाध्वरे

kālena mahatā prāptā mayā girisutā punaḥ | tapastaptvātiduḥsādhyaṁ yā dagdhā tu ruṣādhvare

'"After a long span of time I regained the mountain's daughter again — she who performed extremely difficult austerity, who had burned herself in that sacrifice, in her fury."'

Verse 32 (devibhagavatam.6.19.32)

हरे किं सुखमापन्नं त्वया सन्त्यज्य कामिनीम् । एकाकी तिष्ठता कालं सहस्रवत्सरात्मकम्

hare kiṁ sukhamāpannaṁ tvayā santyajya kāminīm | ekākī tiṣṭhatā kālaṁ sahasravatsarātmakam

'"O Hari, having abandoned your beloved and remained alone for a thousand years, what happiness have you gained?"'

Verse 33 (devibhagavatam.6.19.33)

गत्वाश्वास्य महाभागां समानय निजालयम् । माभूत्कोऽपीह संसारे विमुक्तो रमया तया

gatvāśvāsya mahābhāgāṁ samānaya nijālayam | mābhūtko'pīha saṁsāre vimukto ramayā tayā

'"Go, comfort that most fortunate one, and bring her back to your own home. May no one in this world remain forever parted from his own Rama."'

Verse 34 (devibhagavatam.6.19.34)

कृत्वा तुरगरूपं त्वं भज तां कमलालयाम् । उत्पाद्य पुत्रमायुष्मंस्तामानय शुचिस्मिताम्

kṛtvā turagarūpaṁ tvaṁ bhaja tāṁ kamalālayām | utpādya putramāyuṣmaṁstāmānaya śucismitām

'"Taking the form of a horse, unite with the dweller of the lotus; having begotten a son, O long-lived one, bring back that sweetly-smiling one."'

Verse 35 (devibhagavatam.6.19.35)

व्यास उवाच । हरिराकर्ण्य तद्वाक्यं चित्ररूपस्य भारत । तथेत्युक्त्वा तु तं दूतं प्रेषयामास शङ्करम्

vyāsa uvāca | harirākarṇya tadvākyaṁ citrarūpasya bhārata | tathetyuktvā tu taṁ dūtaṁ preṣayāmāsa śaṅkaram

Vyasa said: O Bharata, hearing these words of Chitrarupa, Hari said 'so be it,' and sent that messenger back to Shankara.

Verse 36 (devibhagavatam.6.19.36)

गते दूतेऽथ भगवान्वैकुण्ठात्कामसंयुतः । जगाम धृत्वा तत्राशु वाजिरूपं मनोहरम्

gate dūte'tha bhagavānvaikuṇṭhātkāmasaṁyutaḥ | jagāma dhṛtvā tatrāśu vājirūpaṁ manoharam

When the messenger had departed, the Lord, filled with longing, set out from Vaikuntha at once, having taken the enchanting form of a horse.

Verse 37 (devibhagavatam.6.19.37)

यत्र सा वडवारूपं कृत्वा तपति सिन्धुजा । विष्णुस्तं देशमासाद्य तामपश्यद्धयीं स्थिताम्

yatra sā vaḍavārūpaṁ kṛtvā tapati sindhujā | viṣṇustaṁ deśamāsādya tāmapaśyaddhayīṁ sthitām

To the place where the ocean-born goddess, in the form of a mare, was performing austerity, Vishnu came, and saw her standing there as a mare.

Verse 38 (devibhagavatam.6.19.38)

सापि तं वीक्ष्य गोविन्दं हयरूपधरं पतिम् । ज्ञात्वा वीक्ष्य स्थिता साध्वी विस्मिता साश्रुलोचना

sāpi taṁ vīkṣya govindaṁ hayarūpadharaṁ patim | jñātvā vīkṣya sthitā sādhvī vismitā sāśrulocanā

She too, seeing that Govinda, her own husband bearing the form of a horse, recognized him, and, tears filling her eyes, stood there astonished, that virtuous woman.

Verse 39 (devibhagavatam.6.19.39)

तयोस्तु सङ्गमस्तत्र प्रवृत्तो मन्मथार्तयोः । कालिन्दीतमसासङ्गे पावने लोकविश्रुते

tayostu saṅgamastatra pravṛtto manmathārtayoḥ | kālindītamasāsaṅge pāvane lokaviśrute

There, at the sacred, world-renowned confluence of the Kalindi and the Tamasa, the union of the two of them, both overcome with longing, took place.

Verse 40 (devibhagavatam.6.19.40)

सगर्भा सा तदा जाता वडवा हरिवल्लभा । सुषुवे सुन्दरं बालं तत्रैव सुगुणोत्तरम्

sagarbhā sā tadā jātā vaḍavā harivallabhā | suṣuve sundaraṁ bālaṁ tatraiva suguṇottaram

That mare, the beloved of Hari, then became pregnant, and gave birth right there to a beautiful boy, endowed with the finest qualities.

Verse 41 (devibhagavatam.6.19.41)

तामाह भगवान्वाक्यं प्रहस्य समयाश्रितम् । त्यजाद्य वाडवं देहं पूर्वदेहा भवाधुना

tāmāha bhagavānvākyaṁ prahasya samayāśritam | tyajādya vāḍavaṁ dehaṁ pūrvadehā bhavādhunā

The Lord, smiling, spoke a word fitting the occasion: 'Give up now this body of a mare; become your former self again, this instant.'

Verse 42 (devibhagavatam.6.19.42)

गमिष्यावः स्ववैकुण्ठमावां कृत्वा निजं वपुः । तिष्ठत्वत्र कुमारोऽयं त्वया जातः सुलोचने

gamiṣyāvaḥ svavaikuṇṭhamāvāṁ kṛtvā nijaṁ vapuḥ | tiṣṭhatvatra kumāro'yaṁ tvayā jātaḥ sulocane

'The two of us, resuming our own true forms, shall go to our own Vaikuntha; let this boy, born of you, O fair-eyed one, remain here.'

Verse 43 (devibhagavatam.6.19.43)

लक्ष्मीरुवाच । स्वदेहसम्भवं पुत्रं कथं हित्वा व्रजाम्यहम् । स्नेहः सुदुस्त्यजः कामं स्वात्मजस्य सुरर्षभ

lakṣmīruvāca | svadehasambhavaṁ putraṁ kathaṁ hitvā vrajāmyaham | snehaḥ sudustyajaḥ kāmaṁ svātmajasya surarṣabha

Lakshmi said: 'How can I go, leaving behind a son born of my own body? O best of gods, love for one's own child is exceedingly hard to give up.'

Verse 44 (devibhagavatam.6.19.44)

का गतिः स्यादमेयात्मन् बालस्यास्य नदीतटे । अनाथस्यासमर्थस्य विजनेऽल्पतनोरिह

kā gatiḥ syādameyātman bālasyāsya nadītaṭe | anāthasyāsamarthasya vijane'lpatanoriha

'O boundless one, what fate would befall this child on this lonely riverbank — orphaned, helpless, and so small?'

Verse 45 (devibhagavatam.6.19.45)

अनाश्रयं सुतं त्यक्त्वा कथं गन्तुं मनो मम । समर्थं सदयं स्वामिन् भवेदम्बुजलोचन

anāśrayaṁ sutaṁ tyaktvā kathaṁ gantuṁ mano mama | samarthaṁ sadayaṁ svāmin bhavedambujalocana

'How could my mind bear to leave this refuge-less son and depart? O my lord, O lotus-eyed one, be capable and compassionate yourself.'

Verse 46 (devibhagavatam.6.19.46)

दिव्यदेहौ ततो जातौ लक्ष्मीनारायणावुभौ । विमानवरसंविष्टौ स्तूयमानौ सुरैर्दिवि

divyadehau tato jātau lakṣmīnārāyaṇāvubhau | vimānavarasaṁviṣṭau stūyamānau surairdivi

Then Lakshmi and Narayana, both, resumed their divine forms, and, seated in an excellent celestial chariot, were praised by the gods in the sky.

Verse 47 (devibhagavatam.6.19.47)

गन्तुकामं पतिं प्राह कमला कमलापतिम् । गृहाणेमं सुतं नाथ नाहं शक्तास्मि हापितुम्

gantukāmaṁ patiṁ prāha kamalā kamalāpatim | gṛhāṇemaṁ sutaṁ nātha nāhaṁ śaktāsmi hāpitum

As her husband was eager to depart, Kamala said to the husband of Kamala: 'O lord, take this son; I am not able to abandon him.'

Verse 48 (devibhagavatam.6.19.48)

प्राणप्रियोऽस्ति मे पुत्रः कान्त्या त्वत्सदृशः प्रभो । गृहीत्वैनं गमिष्यावो वैकुण्ठं मधुसूदन

prāṇapriyo'sti me putraḥ kāntyā tvatsadṛśaḥ prabho | gṛhītvainaṁ gamiṣyāvo vaikuṇṭhaṁ madhusūdana

'This son is dear to me as my own life, O lord, resembling you in radiance. Let us take him with us and go to Vaikuntha, O Madhusudana.'

Verse 49 (devibhagavatam.6.19.49)

हरिरुवाच । मा विषादं प्रिये कर्तुं त्वमर्हसि वरानने । तिष्ठत्वयं सुखेनात्र रक्षा मे विहिता त्विह

hariruvāca | mā viṣādaṁ priye kartuṁ tvamarhasi varānane | tiṣṭhatvayaṁ sukhenātra rakṣā me vihitā tviha

Hari said: 'O beloved, O fair-faced one, do not despair. Let him remain here at ease; his protection has already been arranged by me right here.'

Verse 50 (devibhagavatam.6.19.50)

कार्यं किमपि वामोरु वर्तते महदद्भुतम् । निबोध कथयाम्यद्य सुतस्यात्र विमोचने

kāryaṁ kimapi vāmoru vartate mahadadbhutam | nibodha kathayāmyadya sutasyātra vimocane

'O fair-thighed one, a great and wondrous purpose is at work here; understand — I shall now tell you the reason this son is to remain here.'

Verse 51 (devibhagavatam.6.19.51)

तुर्वसुर्नाम विख्यातो ययातितनुजो भुवि । हरिवर्मेति पित्रास्य कृतं नाम सुविश्रुतम्

turvasurnāma vikhyāto yayātitanujo bhuvi | harivarmeti pitrāsya kṛtaṁ nāma suviśrutam

'There is a king renowned by the name Turvasu, son of Yayati on this earth, to whom his father gave the well-known name Harivarma.'

Verse 52 (devibhagavatam.6.19.52)

स राजा पुत्रकामोऽद्य तपस्तपति पावने । तीर्थे वर्षशतं जातं तस्य वै कुर्वतस्तपः

sa rājā putrakāmo'dya tapastapati pāvane | tīrthe varṣaśataṁ jātaṁ tasya vai kurvatastapaḥ

'That king, desiring a son, is even now performing austerity at a sacred tirtha; a hundred years have already passed as he performs this tapas.'

Verse 53 (devibhagavatam.6.19.53)

तस्यार्थे निर्मितः पुत्रो मयायं कमलालये । तत्र गत्वा नृपं सुभ्रु प्रेरयिष्यामि साम्प्रतम्

tasyārthe nirmitaḥ putro mayāyaṁ kamalālaye | tatra gatvā nṛpaṁ subhru prerayiṣyāmi sāmpratam

'O dweller of the lotus, this son has been fashioned by me for his sake. Going there, O fair-browed one, I shall presently direct that king.'

Verse 54 (devibhagavatam.6.19.54)

तस्मै दास्याम्यहं पुत्रं पुत्रकामाय कामिनि । गृहीत्वा स्वगृहं राजा प्रापयिष्यति बालकम्

tasmai dāsyāmyahaṁ putraṁ putrakāmāya kāmini | gṛhītvā svagṛhaṁ rājā prāpayiṣyati bālakam

'O beloved, I shall give this son to that son-desiring king; the king, taking him, will bring the child to his own home.'

Verse 55 (devibhagavatam.6.19.55)

व्यास उवाच । इत्याश्वास्य प्रियां पद्मां कृत्वा रक्षां च बालके । विमानवरमारुह्य प्रययौ प्रियया सह

vyāsa uvāca | ityāśvāsya priyāṁ padmāṁ kṛtvā rakṣāṁ ca bālake | vimānavaramāruhya prayayau priyayā saha

Vyasa said: Having thus consoled his beloved Padma (Lakshmi), and having arranged for the boy's protection, he mounted his excellent celestial chariot and departed together with his beloved.
