Purvakhanda — Acharakanda · Chapter 195
The Wish-Granting Hymn of Chitraketu
Verse 1 (garuda.1.195.1)
śrīgaruḍamahāpurāṇam 195 hariruvāca salvakāmapradāṁ vidyāṁ saptarātreṇa tāṁ śṛṇu namastubhyaṁ bhagavate vāsudevāya dhīmahi
Hari said: Listen to this knowledge, which grants every desire and is accomplished within seven nights: 'Salutations to You, O Blessed Vasudeva; we meditate upon You.'
Verse 2 (garuda.1.195.2)
pradyumnāyāniruddhāya namaḥ saṅgarṣaṇāya ca namo vijñānamātrāya paramānandamūrtaye
'Salutations to Pradyumna and Aniruddha, and salutations to Sankarshana; salutations to the one who is pure consciousness itself, the very embodiment of supreme bliss;
Verse 3 (garuda.1.195.3)
ātmārāmāya śāntāya nivṛttadvaitadṛṣṭaye tvadrūpāṇi ca sarvāṇi tasmāttubhyaṁ namo namaḥ
— to the one who delights in the Self, the peaceful one, free from the vision of duality; since all these forms are Yours alone, therefore salutations, salutations to You.
Verse 4 (garuda.1.195.4)
hṛṣīkeśāya mahate namaste'nantamūrtaye yasminnidaṁ yataścaitattiṣṭhatyagre'pi jāyate
'Salutations to Hrishikesha, the great one, of infinite form, in whom this universe rests and from whom it arises, and in whom it exists even before its arising.
Verse 5 (garuda.1.195.5)
mṛnmayīṁ vahasi kṣoṇīṁ tasmai te brahmaṇe namaḥ yanna spṛśanti na viduḥ manobuddhīndriyāsavaḥ antarbahistvaṁ carasi vyomatulyaṁ namāmyaham
'You alone bear this earthen world — salutations to You, that Brahman, whom mind, intellect, senses, and life-breath can neither touch nor know. You move within and without, pervading like the sky — I bow to You.'
Verse 6 (garuda.1.195.6)
oṁ namo bhagavate mahāpurāṣāya mahābhūtapataye sakalasattvabhāvivrīḍanikarakamalareṇūtpalanibhadharmākhyavidyayā caraṇāravindayugala parameṣṭhinnamaste avāpa vidyādharatāṁ citraketośca vidyayā
'Om, salutations to the Blessed Great Being, Lord of the great elements, adorned with a glory resembling a cluster of lotus-pollen — O Supreme Lord, salutations to Your pair of lotus feet.' By this very knowledge, Chitraketu attained the status of a Vidyadhara.
