Mantras of Subjugation and Kindred Aims

Verse 1 (garuda.1.41.1)

।।वासुदेव उवाच ।। ॐ विश्वावसुर्नाम गन्धर्वः कन्यानामधिपतिर्लभामि ते कन्यां समुत्पाद्य तस्मै विश्ववासवे स्वाहा ।। स्त्रीलाभो मन्त्रजाप्याच्च कालरात्रिं वदाम्यहम्

..vāsudeva uvāca .. oṁ viśvāvasurnāma gandharvaḥ kanyānāmadhipatirlabhāmi te kanyāṁ samutpādya tasmai viśvavāsave svāhā .. strīlābho mantrajāpyācca kālarātriṁ vadāmyaham

Vasudeva said: Om — Vishvavasu by name, the Gandharva, lord of maidens — through him may I obtain this maiden, having caused her to arise; to that Vishvavasu, svaha. I shall now declare the mantra-recitation for obtaining a wife, together with the mantra of Kalaratri.

Verse 2 (garuda.1.41.2)

ॐ नमो भगवति ऋक्षकर्णि चतुर्भुजे ऊर्द्ध्वकेशि त्रिनयने कालरात्रि मानुषाणां वसारुधिरभोजने अमुकस्य प्राप्तकालस्य मृत्युप्रदे हुं फट् हनहन दहदह मांसरुधिरं पचपच ऋक्षपत्नि स्वाहा । न तिथिर्न च नक्षत्रं नोपवासो विधीयते

oṁ namo bhagavati ṛkṣakarṇi caturbhuje ūrddhvakeśi trinayane kālarātri mānuṣāṇāṁ vasārudhirabhojane amukasya prāptakālasya mṛtyuprade huṁ phaṭ hanahana dahadaha māṁsarudhiraṁ pacapaca ṛkṣapatni svāhā . na tithirna ca nakṣatraṁ nopavāso vidhīyate

Om, salutation to the goddess Rikshakarni — four-armed, with hair standing upright, three-eyed, Kalaratri (the Night of Time/Death), who feeds on the fat and blood of humans; who deals death at the appointed hour to the one named so-and-so — hum phat! Slay, slay; burn, burn; cook, cook the flesh and blood — O consort of Riksha, svaha. For this (rite), no particular lunar day, no constellation, and no fasting is prescribed.

Verse 3 (garuda.1.41.3)

क्रुद्धो रक्तेन संमार्ज्य करौ ताभ्यां प्रगृह्य च ।। प्रदोषे संजपेल्लिङ्गमामपात्रं च मारयेत् ।। ॐ नमः सर्वतोयन्त्राण्येतद्यथा जम्भनि मोहनि सर्वशत्रुविदारिणि रक्षरक्ष माममुकं सर्वभयोपद्रवेभ्यः स्वाहा ।। शुक्रे नष्टे महादेव वक्ष्येऽहं द्विजपादिह

kruddho raktena saṁmārjya karau tābhyāṁ pragṛhya ca .. pradoṣe saṁjapelliṅgamāmapātraṁ ca mārayet .. oṁ namaḥ sarvatoyantrāṇyetadyathā jambhani mohani sarvaśatruvidāriṇi rakṣarakṣa māmamukaṁ sarvabhayopadravebhyaḥ svāhā .. śukre naṣṭe mahādeva vakṣye'haṁ dvijapādiha

Enraged, having wiped both hands with blood and taken hold (of the ritual materials) with them, at dusk let one repeat this mantra and destroy the unfired clay vessel shaped as a linga — Om, salutation, this is the all-encompassing device (sarvato-yantra), thus: O deluder, tearer apart of all enemies, protect, protect me, so-and-so, from every fear and calamity, svaha. O Mahadeva, I shall now speak here, for the twice-born, of the remedy for when the seed (shukra) is destroyed.
