Verse 1 (garuda.1.74.1)

॥ सूत उवाच ॥ पतिताया हिमाद्रौ तु त्वचस्तस्य सुरद्विषः ॥ प्रादुर्भवन्ति ताभ्यस्तु पुष्प (ष्य) रागा महागुणाः

. sūta uvāca . patitāyā himādrau tu tvacastasya suradviṣaḥ . prādurbhavanti tābhyastu puṣpa (ṣya) rāgā mahāguṇāḥ

Suta said: From the skin of that enemy of the gods, which fell upon the Himalaya mountain, arose topazes (pushparaga) of great quality.

Verse 2 (garuda.1.74.2)

आपीतपाण्डुरुचिरः पाषाणः पद्मरागसंज्ञस्तु ॥ कौकण्टकनामा स्यात्स एव यदि लोहितापीतः

āpītapāṇḍuruciraḥ pāṣāṇaḥ padmarāgasaṁjñastu . kaukaṇṭakanāmā syātsa eva yadi lohitāpītaḥ

A stone of yellowish-pale, lovely hue is known by the name 'padmaraga'; that same, if reddish-yellow, is called 'kaukantaka.'

Verse 3 (garuda.1.74.3)

आलोहितस्तु पीतः स्वच्छः काषायकः स एकोक्तः ॥ आनीलशुक्लवर्णः स्निग्धः सोमाल(न) कः सगुणः

ālohitastu pītaḥ svacchaḥ kāṣāyakaḥ sa ekoktaḥ . ānīlaśuklavarṇaḥ snigdhaḥ somāla(na) kaḥ saguṇaḥ

That which is reddish and yellow, clear, and of a dusky hue, is known by its own specific name; that which is bluish-white and glossy is called the quality-endowed 'somalaka.'

Verse 4 (garuda.1.74.4)

अत्यन्तलोहितो यः स एव खलु पद्मरागसंज्ञः स्यात् ॥ अपि चेन्द्रनीलसंज्ञः स एव कथितः सुनीलः सन्

atyantalohito yaḥ sa eva khalu padmarāgasaṁjñaḥ syāt . api cendranīlasaṁjñaḥ sa eva kathitaḥ sunīlaḥ san

That which is exceedingly red is indeed truly called by the name 'padmaraga'; and that same, if deep blue, is declared to be called 'indranila.'

Verse 5 (garuda.1.74.5)

मूल्यं वैदूर्य्यमणेरिव गदितं ह्यस्य रत्नसारविदा ॥ धारणफलं च तद्वत्किं तु स्त्रीणां सुतप्रदो भवति

mūlyaṁ vaidūryyamaṇeriva gaditaṁ hyasya ratnasāravidā . dhāraṇaphalaṁ ca tadvatkiṁ tu strīṇāṁ sutaprado bhavati

The knowers of gem-essence have declared its price to be like that of the vaidurya gem, and the fruit of wearing it likewise; but, in addition, it also grants sons to women.
