anurāgo mamāpyatra tātātīva mahātmani / darśanādeva saṁjāto viśeṣeṇopakāriṇi

'Father, love for this great soul has arisen in me too, the moment I saw him, all the more since he has been our benefactor.'

Verse 57 (markandeya.63.57)

kintveṣā me sakhī sā ca matkṛte duḥ khapīḍite / ato nābhilaṣe bhogān bhoktumetena vai samam

'But this friend of mine is afflicted with suffering on my account; therefore I do not wish to enjoy pleasures together with him while she suffers.'

Verse 58 (markandeya.63.58)

puruṣairapi no śakyā kartumitthaṁ nṛśaṁsatā / svabhāvarucirairmādṛk kathaṁ yoṣit kariṣyati

'Even men of naturally gentle disposition could not bring themselves to such cruelty — how then could a woman like me do so?'

Verse 59 (markandeya.63.59)

sāhaṁ yathā te duḥ khārte matkṛte kanyake pitaḥ / tathā sthāsyāmi tadduḥ khe tacchokānalatāpitā

'Father, just as this maiden suffers on my account, so I too shall remain in that same suffering, burned by the very fire of her grief.'

Verse 60 (markandeya.63.60)

āyurvedaprasādena te kariṣye punarnave / sakhyau tava mahāśokaṁ samutsṛja sumadhyame

Svarochi said: 'By the grace of Āyurveda, I shall make both your friends whole again. Set aside your great grief, O slender-waisted one.'

Verse 61 (markandeya.63.61)

tataḥ pitrā svayaṁ dattāṁ tāṁ kanyāṁ sa vidhānataḥ / upayeme girau tasmin svarociścārulocavanām

Markandeya said: Then Svarochi duly married, upon that mountain, the maiden given by her father, that lovely-eyed one.

Verse 62 (markandeya.63.62)

dattāntu tāṁ tadā kanyāmabhiśāntya ca bhāminīm / jagāma divyayā gatyāgandharvaḥ svapurantataḥ

Having given away that maiden and comforted his daughter, the Gandharva then departed by his divine motion to his own city.

Verse 63 (markandeya.63.63)

sa cāpi sahitastanvyā sadudyānantadā yayau / kanyakāyugalaṁ yatra tacchāpotthagadāturam

He too, together with that slender one, then went to the pair of maidens who were afflicted with the disease brought on by the curse.

Verse 64 (markandeya.63.64)

tatastayoḥ sa tattvajño rogaghnairauṣadhai rasaiḥ / cakāra nīrujau dehau svarociraparājitaḥ

Then Svarochi the unconquered, knower of the true nature of things, with disease-destroying herbs and elixirs, made both their bodies free of illness.

Verse 65 (markandeya.63.65)

tato 'tiśobhane kanye vimukte vyādhitaḥ śubhe / svakāntyodyoti digbhāgaṁ cakrāte tanmahīdharam

Then those two most beautiful maidens, freed from their affliction, made that whole quarter of the mountain radiant with their own loveliness.
