vyāsa uvāca. balaṁ ca nihataṁ dṛṣṭvā namuciṁ ca svakāgrajam. mucistatrābravīdvākyaṁ jyeṣṭho me sūditastvayā
Vyasa said: Seeing Bala slain, and Namuchi his own elder brother also slain, Muchi then spoke these words: "You have slain my elder brother—"
Verse 2 (padma.1.68.2)
parokṣeṇādhunā tvāṁ ca śarairneṣyāmi bhāskarim. tamabravīnmahātejāḥ śakraḥ sarvasurārcitaḥ
"—now, unseen, I shall dispatch even you with arrows, O radiant Bhaskari!" To him spoke the greatly radiant Shakra, honored by all the gods—
Verse 3 (padma.1.68.3)
bhrātuste dharmapaṁthānamidānīṁ lapsyase dhruvam. vahneruṣṇamavijñāya pramohācchalabhā yathā
"You shall now certainly attain your brother's path — the path of death — like moths that, not knowing the heat of fire, through delusion—"
Verse 4 (padma.1.68.4)
sahasā praviśaṁtyagniṁ tathā māṁ yoddhumicchasi. evaṁ bruvāṇamindraṁ ca jaghāna viśikhaistribhiḥ
"—suddenly fly into the fire, so do you wish to fight with me." While Indra was speaking thus, Muchi struck him with three arrows.

Shakra, conqueror of enemy cities, cut them down with three arrows of his own. Then Muchi struck Indra with ten arrows, and Airavata with three.
Verse 6 (padma.1.68.6)
saptabhirmātaliṁ chitvā nādairuccairnanāda ha. śakraṁ prati punardaityo bhrāmayāmāsa saṁbhramāt
Having struck down Matali with seven arrows, he roared aloud. That demon, again in a fury, whirled his weapon toward Shakra.
Verse 7 (padma.1.68.7)

āyasīṁ tāṁ gadāṁ kopānmahābalaparākramaḥ. tatastu lāghavācchakro jaghāna kuliśena hi
In anger, that demon of great strength and valor hurled his iron mace. Then Shakra, with swiftness, struck him with the thunderbolt.
Verse 8 (padma.1.68.8)
bhidurasyāvapātena gatāsurnipapāta ha. danujasya prapātena saṁcacāla vasuṁdharā
By that shattering blow, Muchi, his life gone, fell down. By the fall of the demon, the earth shook.
Verse 9 (padma.1.68.9)
devāḥ pracakrurnṛtyāni dānavā vipradudruvuḥ
The gods danced for joy, and the danavas fled in every direction.
