Verse 1 (padma.5.69.1)

ऋषय ऊचुः - सम्यक्छ्रुतो महाभाग त्वत्तो रामाश्वमेधकः । इदानीं वद माहात्म्यं श्रीकृष्णस्य महात्मनः

ṛṣaya ūcuḥ - samyakchruto mahābhāga tvatto rāmāśvamedhakaḥ idānīṁ vada māhātmyaṁ śrīkṛṣṇasya mahātmanaḥ

The sages said: "O illustrious one, we have well heard from you the tale of Rama's horse-sacrifice; now tell us the greatness of the great-souled Shri Krishna."

Verse 2 (padma.5.69.2)

सूत उवाच-। शृण्वंतु मुनिशार्दूलाः श्रीकृष्णचरितामृतम् । शिवा पप्रच्छ भूतेशं यत्तद्वः कीर्तयाम्यहम्

sūta uvāca- śṛṇvaṁtu muniśārdūlāḥ śrīkṛṣṇacaritāmṛtam śivā papraccha bhūteśaṁ yattadvaḥ kīrtayāmyaham

Suta said: "Listen, O tigers among sages, to the nectar of Shri Krishna's deeds. I shall now recount to you what Parvati asked of Bhutesha, the lord of beings."

Verse 3 (padma.5.69.3)

एकदा पार्वती देवी शिवं संस्निग्धमानसा । प्रणयेन नमस्कृत्य प्रोवाच वचनं त्विदम्

ekadā pārvatī devī śivaṁ saṁsnigdhamānasā praṇayena namaskṛtya provāca vacanaṁ tvidam

Once, goddess Parvati, her heart full of affection, having bowed to Shiva with love, spoke these words.

Verse 4 (padma.5.69.4)

पार्वत्युवाच-। अनंतकोटिब्रह्मांड तद्बाह्याभ्यंतरस्थितेः । विष्णोः स्थानं परं तेषां प्रधानं वरमुत्तमम्

pārvatyuvāca- anaṁtakoṭibrahmāṁḍa tadbāhyābhyaṁtarasthiteḥ viṣṇoḥ sthānaṁ paraṁ teṣāṁ pradhānaṁ varamuttamam

Parvati said: "Among the countless millions of universes, and among all the abodes of Vishnu existing within and beyond them — that chief, most excellent, supreme place,"

Verse 5 (padma.5.69.5)

यत्परं नास्ति कृष्णस्य प्रियं स्थानं मनोरमम् । तत्सर्वं श्रोतुमिच्छामि कथयस्व महाप्रभो

yatparaṁ nāsti kṛṣṇasya priyaṁ sthānaṁ manoramam tatsarvaṁ śrotumicchāmi kathayasva mahāprabho

"the supreme, most beloved and enchanting abode of Krishna, beyond which there is none higher — all of that I wish to hear; tell me, O great lord."

Verse 6 (padma.5.69.6)

ईश्वर उवाच-। गुह्याद्गुह्यतरं गुह्यं परमानंदकारकम् । अत्यद्भुतं रहःस्थानमानंदं परमं परम्

īśvara uvāca- guhyādguhyataraṁ guhyaṁ paramānaṁdakārakam atyadbhutaṁ rahaḥsthānamānaṁdaṁ paramaṁ param

Ishvara said: "It is a secret more secret than secrets, the bestower of supreme bliss, an exceedingly wondrous, hidden place, the very highest bliss."

Verse 7 (padma.5.69.7)

दुर्लभानां च परमं दुर्लभं मोहनं परम् । सर्वशक्तिमयं देवि सर्वस्थानेषु गोपितम्

durlabhānāṁ ca paramaṁ durlabhaṁ mohanaṁ param sarvaśaktimayaṁ devi sarvasthāneṣu gopitam

"The most difficult to attain even among things hard to attain, supremely enchanting, full of every power, O goddess, hidden among all places."

Verse 8 (padma.5.69.8)

सात्वतां स्थानमूर्द्धन्यं विष्णोरत्यंतदुर्लभम् । नित्यं वृंदावनं नाम ब्रह्मांडोपरि संस्थितम्

sātvatāṁ sthānamūrddhanyaṁ viṣṇoratyaṁtadurlabham nityaṁ vṛṁdāvanaṁ nāma brahmāṁḍopari saṁsthitam

"The crown-abode of the Vaishnavas, exceedingly hard even for Vishnu to attain — eternal Vrindavan, situated above the universe."

Verse 9 (padma.5.69.9)

पूर्णब्रह्मसुखैश्वर्यं नित्यमानंदमव्ययम् । वैकुंठादि तदंशांशं स्वयं वृंदावनं भुवि

pūrṇabrahmasukhaiśvaryaṁ nityamānaṁdamavyayam vaikuṁṭhādi tadaṁśāṁśaṁ svayaṁ vṛṁdāvanaṁ bhuvi

"Full of the bliss and glory of the complete Brahman, eternally blissful, imperishable; Vaikuntha and the rest are but a fraction of a fraction of it — Vrindavan itself, on earth."

Verse 10 (padma.5.69.10)

गोलोकैश्वर्यं यत्किंचिद्गोकुले तत्प्रतिष्ठितम् । वैकुंठवैभवं यद्वै द्वारिकायां प्रतिष्ठितम्

golokaiśvaryaṁ yatkiṁcidgokule tatpratiṣṭhitam vaikuṁṭhavaibhavaṁ yadvai dvārikāyāṁ pratiṣṭhitam

"Whatever glory Goloka possesses is established in Gokula; whatever splendor Vaikuntha possesses is established in Dvaraka."

Verse 11 (padma.5.69.11)

यद्ब्रह्मपरमैश्वर्यं नित्यं वृंदावनाश्रयम् । कृष्णधामपरं तेषां वनमध्ये विशेषतः

yadbrahmaparamaiśvaryaṁ nityaṁ vṛṁdāvanāśrayam kṛṣṇadhāmaparaṁ teṣāṁ vanamadhye viśeṣataḥ

"That supreme glory of Brahman abides eternally sheltered in Vrindavan; among all of Krishna's abodes, that which is in the midst of the forest is especially supreme."

Verse 12 (padma.5.69.12)

तस्मात्त्रैलोक्यमध्ये तु पृथ्वी धन्येति विश्रुता । यस्मान्माथुरकं नाम विष्णोरेकांतवल्लभम्

tasmāttrailokyamadhye tu pṛthvī dhanyeti viśrutā yasmānmāthurakaṁ nāma viṣṇorekāṁtavallabham

"Therefore, among the three worlds, the earth is renowned as blessed, since upon it is Mathura, Vishnu's most cherished, exclusive abode."

Verse 13 (padma.5.69.13)

स्वस्थानमधिकं नामधेयं माथुरमंडलम् । निगूढं विविधं स्थानं पुर्यभ्यंतरसंस्थितम्

svasthānamadhikaṁ nāmadheyaṁ māthuramaṁḍalam nigūḍhaṁ vividhaṁ sthānaṁ puryabhyaṁtarasaṁsthitam

"His own supreme abode bears the name Mathura-mandala, a manifold hidden place situated within that city."

Verse 14 (padma.5.69.14)

सहस्रपत्रकमलाकारं माथुरमंडलम् । विष्णुचक्रपरिभ्रामाद्धाम वैष्णवमद्भुतम्

sahasrapatrakamalākāraṁ māthuramaṁḍalam viṣṇucakraparibhrāmāddhāma vaiṣṇavamadbhutam

"Mathura-mandala is shaped like a thousand-petaled lotus; it is the wondrous Vaishnava abode marked out by the wheeling of Vishnu's discus."

Verse 15 (padma.5.69.15)

कर्णिकापर्णविस्तारं रहस्यद्रुममीरितम् । प्रधानं द्वादशारण्यं माहात्म्यं कथितं क्रमात्

karṇikāparṇavistāraṁ rahasyadrumamīritam pradhānaṁ dvādaśāraṇyaṁ māhātmyaṁ kathitaṁ kramāt

"With its whorl and petals spread wide, filled with mysterious trees, the twelve principal forests — their glory I shall now relate in order."

Verse 16 (padma.5.69.16)

भद्र श्री लोह भांडीर महाताल खदीरकाः । बकुलं कुमुदं काम्यं मधु वृंदावनं तथा

bhadra śrī loha bhāṁḍīra mahātāla khadīrakāḥ bakulaṁ kumudaṁ kāmyaṁ madhu vṛṁdāvanaṁ tathā

"Bhadra, Shri, Loha, Bhandira, Mahatala, Khadira, Bakula, Kumuda, Kamya, Madhu, and Vrindavana —"

Verse 17 (padma.5.69.17)

द्वादशैतावती संख्या कालिंद्याः सप्त पश्चिमे । पूर्वे पंचवनं प्रोक्तं तत्रास्ति गुह्यमुत्तमम्

dvādaśaitāvatī saṁkhyā kāliṁdyāḥ sapta paścime pūrve paṁcavanaṁ proktaṁ tatrāsti guhyamuttamam

"these twelve in number: seven lie west of the Kalindi, and five to the east; therein lies a supreme secret."

Verse 18 (padma.5.69.18)

महारण्यं गोकुलाख्यं मधु वृंदावनं तथा । अन्यच्चोपवनं प्रोक्तं कृष्णक्रीडारसस्थलम्

mahāraṇyaṁ gokulākhyaṁ madhu vṛṁdāvanaṁ tathā anyaccopavanaṁ proktaṁ kṛṣṇakrīḍārasasthalam

"The great forest called Gokula, and Madhu and Vrindavana likewise; other groves too are spoken of, as the places of Krishna's sweet play."

Verse 19 (padma.5.69.19)

कदंबखंडनं नंदवनं नंदीश्वरं तथा । नंदनंदनखंडं च पलाशाशोककेतकी

kadaṁbakhaṁḍanaṁ naṁdavanaṁ naṁdīśvaraṁ tathā naṁdanaṁdanakhaṁḍaṁ ca palāśāśokaketakī

"Kadamba-khandana, Nanda-vana, and Nandishvara likewise; and Nandanandana-khanda, Palasha, Ashoka, Ketaki —"

Verse 20 (padma.5.69.20)

सुगंधमानसं कैलममृतं भोजनस्थलम् । सुखप्रसाधनं वत्सहरणं शेषशायिकम्

sugaṁdhamānasaṁ kailamamṛtaṁ bhojanasthalam sukhaprasādhanaṁ vatsaharaṇaṁ śeṣaśāyikam

"Sugandhamanasa, Kailama, Amrita-bhojana-sthala, Sukhaprasadhana, Vatsaharana, Sheshashayika —"

Verse 21 (padma.5.69.21)

श्यामपूर्वो दधिग्रामश्चक्रभानुपुरं तथा । संकेतं द्विपदं चैव बालक्रीडनधूसरम्

śyāmapūrvo dadhigrāmaścakrabhānupuraṁ tathā saṁketaṁ dvipadaṁ caiva bālakrīḍanadhūsaram

"Shyamapurva, Dadhigrama, and Chakrabhanupura; Sanketa, Dvipada, and Balakridana-dhusara —"

Verse 22 (padma.5.69.22)

कामद्रुमं सुललितमुत्सुकं चापि काननम् । नानाविधरसक्रीडा नानालीलारसस्थलम्

kāmadrumaṁ sulalitamutsukaṁ cāpi kānanam nānāvidharasakrīḍā nānālīlārasasthalam

"Kamadruma, Sulalita, and the grove called Utsuka too — places of manifold sweet sports, sites of Krishna's varied pastimes."

Verse 23 (padma.5.69.23)

नागविस्तारविष्टंभं रहस्यद्रुममीरितम् । सहस्रपत्रकमलं गोकुलाख्यं महत्पदम्

nāgavistāraviṣṭaṁbhaṁ rahasyadrumamīritam sahasrapatrakamalaṁ gokulākhyaṁ mahatpadam

"Extending with a serpent-vast boundary, filled with mysterious trees — the thousand-petaled lotus called Gokula is that supreme abode."

Verse 24 (padma.5.69.24)

कर्णिकातन्महद्धाम गोविंदस्थानमुत्तमम् । तत्रोपरि स्वर्णपीठे मणिमंडपमंडितम्

karṇikātanmahaddhāma goviṁdasthānamuttamam tatropari svarṇapīṭhe maṇimaṁḍapamaṁḍitam

"In its whorl is that great abode, the supreme place of Govinda; there above, upon a golden seat, adorned with a pavilion of jewels."

Verse 25 (padma.5.69.25)

कर्णिकायां क्रमाद्दिक्षु विदिक्षु दलमीरितम् । यद्दलं दक्षिणे प्रोक्तं परं गुह्योत्तमोत्तमम्

karṇikāyāṁ kramāddikṣu vidikṣu dalamīritam yaddalaṁ dakṣiṇe proktaṁ paraṁ guhyottamottamam

"Around that whorl, in the directions and intermediate directions, the petals are described in order; the one to the south is the supreme, most secret of all."

Verse 26 (padma.5.69.26)

तस्मिन्दले महापीठं निगमागमदुर्गमम् । योगींद्रैरपि दुष्प्रापं सर्वात्मा यच्च गोकुलम्

tasmindale mahāpīṭhaṁ nigamāgamadurgamam yogīṁdrairapi duṣprāpaṁ sarvātmā yacca gokulam

"On that petal is a great seat, unreachable even by the Vedas and scriptures, hard to attain even by the lords of yoga — that which is the very Self of all, Gokula."

Verse 27 (padma.5.69.27)

द्वितीयं दलमाग्नेय्यां तद्रहस्यदलं तथा । संकेतं द्विपदं चैव कुटीद्वौ तत्कुले स्थितौ

dvitīyaṁ dalamāgneyyāṁ tadrahasyadalaṁ tathā saṁketaṁ dvipadaṁ caiva kuṭīdvau tatkule sthitau

"The second petal lies in the south-east — that too is a secret petal; Sanketa and Dvipada, two hermitages, stand in that region."

Verse 28 (padma.5.69.28)

पूर्वं दलं तृतीयं च प्रधानस्थानमुत्तमम् । गंगादिसर्वतीर्थानां स्पर्शाच्छतगुणं स्मृतम्

pūrvaṁ dalaṁ tṛtīyaṁ ca pradhānasthānamuttamam gaṁgādisarvatīrthānāṁ sparśācchataguṇaṁ smṛtam

"The third petal, to the east, is the chief and supreme place, remembered as a hundred times more sacred than the touch of the Ganga and all other holy waters."

Verse 29 (padma.5.69.29)

चतुर्थं दलमैशान्यां सिद्धपीठेऽपि तत्पदम् । व्यायामनूतनागोपी तत्र कृष्णं पतिं लभेत्

caturthaṁ dalamaiśānyāṁ siddhapīṭhe'pi tatpadam vyāyāmanūtanāgopī tatra kṛṣṇaṁ patiṁ labhet

"The fourth petal lies in the north-east; that place is also a seat of perfection — there a young gopi, through her devoted striving, attains Krishna as her lord."

Verse 30 (padma.5.69.30)

वस्त्रालंकारहरणं तद्दले समुदाहृतम् । उत्तरे पंचमं प्रोक्तं दलं सर्वदलोत्तमम्

vastrālaṁkāraharaṇaṁ taddale samudāhṛtam uttare paṁcamaṁ proktaṁ dalaṁ sarvadalottamam

"There, on that petal, the taking away of garments and ornaments is told. The fifth petal, said to lie in the north, is the best of all the petals."

Verse 31 (padma.5.69.31)

द्वादशादित्यमत्रैव दलं च कर्णिकासमम् । वायव्यां तु दलं षष्ठं तत्र कालीह्रदः स्मृतः

dvādaśādityamatraiva dalaṁ ca karṇikāsamam vāyavyāṁ tu dalaṁ ṣaṣṭhaṁ tatra kālīhradaḥ smṛtaḥ

"The twelve Adityas are here too, equal in glory to the whorl. The sixth petal lies in the north-west; there is remembered the pool of the serpent Kali."

Verse 32 (padma.5.69.32)

दलोत्तमोत्तमं चैव प्रधानं स्थानमुच्यते । सर्वोत्तमदलं चैव पश्चिमे सप्तमं स्मृतम्

dalottamottamaṁ caiva pradhānaṁ sthānamucyate sarvottamadalaṁ caiva paścime saptamaṁ smṛtam

"It is called the very best of petals, a principal place. The seventh petal, best of all, is said to lie in the west."

Verse 33 (padma.5.69.33)

यज्ञपत्नीगणानां च तदीप्सितवरप्रदम् । अत्रासुरोऽपि निर्वाणं प्राप त्रिदशदुर्लभम्

yajñapatnīgaṇānāṁ ca tadīpsitavarapradam atrāsuro'pi nirvāṇaṁ prāpa tridaśadurlabham

"It grants the desired boon to the wives of the sacrificers; here even a demon attained liberation, hard to attain even for the gods."

Verse 34 (padma.5.69.34)

ब्रह्ममोहनमत्रैव दलं ब्रह्मह्रदावहम् । नैर्ऋत्यां तु दलं प्रोक्तमष्टमं व्योमघातनम्

brahmamohanamatraiva dalaṁ brahmahradāvaham nairṛtyāṁ tu dalaṁ proktamaṣṭamaṁ vyomaghātanam

"Here too is the petal of Brahma's bewilderment, bearing Brahma's pool. The eighth petal, in the south-west, is Vyomaghatana."

Verse 35 (padma.5.69.35)

शंखचूडवधस्तत्र नानाकेलिरसस्थलम् । श्रुतमष्टदलं प्रोक्तं वृंदारण्यांतरस्थितम्

śaṁkhacūḍavadhastatra nānākelirasasthalam śrutamaṣṭadalaṁ proktaṁ vṛṁdāraṇyāṁtarasthitam

"There the demon Shankhachuda was slain, a place of manifold sweet sports. Thus the eight petals within the Vrinda forest have been described."

Verse 36 (padma.5.69.36)

श्रीमद्वृंदावनं रम्यं यमुनायाः प्रदक्षिणम् । शिवलिंगमधिष्ठानं दृष्टं गोपीश्वराभिधम्

śrīmadvṛṁdāvanaṁ ramyaṁ yamunāyāḥ pradakṣiṇam śivaliṁgamadhiṣṭhānaṁ dṛṣṭaṁ gopīśvarābhidham

"Glorious, delightful Vrindavana is encircled by the Yamuna; there is seen a Shiva-linga, its presiding deity, named Gopishvara."

Verse 37 (padma.5.69.37)

तद्बाह्ये षोडशदलं श्रियापूर्णं तमीश्वरम् । सर्वासु दिक्षु यत्प्रोक्तं प्रादक्षिण्याद्यथाक्रमम्

tadbāhye ṣoḍaśadalaṁ śriyāpūrṇaṁ tamīśvaram sarvāsu dikṣu yatproktaṁ prādakṣiṇyādyathākramam

"Outside it lie sixteen petals, full of splendor, that same lord pervading them all, described in every direction, in order, going clockwise."

Verse 38 (padma.5.69.38)

महत्पदं महद्धाम स्वधामाधावसंज्ञकम् । प्रथमैकदलं श्रेष्ठं माहात्म्यं कर्णिकासमम्

mahatpadaṁ mahaddhāma svadhāmādhāvasaṁjñakam prathamaikadalaṁ śreṣṭhaṁ māhātmyaṁ karṇikāsamam

"This is the great abode, the great seat, known as Svadhama-adhava; the first of these petals is the best, its glory equal to that of the whorl itself."

Verse 39 (padma.5.69.39)

तत्र गोवर्द्धनगिरौ रम्ये नित्यरसाश्रये । कर्णिकायां महालीला तल्लीला रसगह्वरौ

tatra govarddhanagirau ramye nityarasāśraye karṇikāyāṁ mahālīlā tallīlā rasagahvarau

"There, on the delightful mount Govardhana, the eternal abode of divine sweetness, in the whorl are the great pastimes, and in that petal the pastimes of the Rasa-gahvara."

Verse 40 (padma.5.69.40)

यत्र कृष्णो नित्यवृंदाकाननस्य पतिर्भवेत् । कृष्णो गोविंदतां प्राप्तः किमन्यैर्बहुभाषितैः

yatra kṛṣṇo nityavṛṁdākānanasya patirbhavet kṛṣṇo goviṁdatāṁ prāptaḥ kimanyairbahubhāṣitaiḥ

"There Krishna becomes forever the lord of the Vrinda-forest; Krishna attained the state of Govinda there — what need is there of further words?"

Verse 41 (padma.5.69.41)

दलं तृतीयमाख्यातं सर्वश्रेष्ठोत्तमोत्तमम् । चतुर्थं दलमाख्यातं महाद्भुतरसस्थलम्

dalaṁ tṛtīyamākhyātaṁ sarvaśreṣṭhottamottamam caturthaṁ dalamākhyātaṁ mahādbhutarasasthalam

"The third petal has been described, the very best of all. The fourth petal, too, is a place of the most wondrous sweetness."

Verse 42 (padma.5.69.42)

नंदीश्वरवनं रम्यं तत्र नंदालयः स्मृतः । कर्णिकादलमाहात्म्यं पंचमं दलमुच्यते

naṁdīśvaravanaṁ ramyaṁ tatra naṁdālayaḥ smṛtaḥ karṇikādalamāhātmyaṁ paṁcamaṁ dalamucyate

"There lies the delightful Nandishvara forest, and there is remembered Nanda's own abode. Now the fifth petal is spoken of."

Verse 43 (padma.5.69.43)

अधिष्ठाताऽत्र गोपालो धेनुपालनतत्परः । षष्ठं दलं यदाख्यातं तत्र नंदवनं स्मृतम्

adhiṣṭhātā'tra gopālo dhenupālanatatparaḥ ṣaṣṭhaṁ dalaṁ yadākhyātaṁ tatra naṁdavanaṁ smṛtam

"Its presiding deity here is Gopala, devoted to tending the cows. The sixth petal that is spoken of — there Nanda-vana is remembered."

Verse 44 (padma.5.69.44)

सप्तमं बकुलारण्यं दलं रम्यं प्रकीर्तितम् । तत्राष्टमं तालवनं तत्र धेनुवधः स्मृतः

saptamaṁ bakulāraṇyaṁ dalaṁ ramyaṁ prakīrtitam tatrāṣṭamaṁ tālavanaṁ tatra dhenuvadhaḥ smṛtaḥ

"The seventh petal, the delightful Bakularanya, is celebrated; the eighth is Talavana, where the slaying of the demon Dhenuka is remembered."

Verse 45 (padma.5.69.45)

नवमं कुमुदारण्यं दलं रम्यं प्रकीर्तितम् । कामारण्यं च दशमं प्रधानं सर्वकारणम्

navamaṁ kumudāraṇyaṁ dalaṁ ramyaṁ prakīrtitam kāmāraṇyaṁ ca daśamaṁ pradhānaṁ sarvakāraṇam

"The ninth petal, the delightful Kumudaranya, is celebrated; and the tenth, Kamaranya, is the principal cause of all."

Verse 46 (padma.5.69.46)

ब्रह्मप्रसाधनं तत्र विष्णुच्छद्मप्रदर्शनम् । कृष्णक्रीडारसस्थानं प्रधानं दलमुच्यते

brahmaprasādhanaṁ tatra viṣṇucchadmapradarśanam kṛṣṇakrīḍārasasthānaṁ pradhānaṁ dalamucyate

"There Brahma was granted his boon, and Vishnu's illusory form was displayed; it is called the principal petal, the place of Krishna's sweet play."

Verse 47 (padma.5.69.47)

दलमेकादशं प्रोक्तं भक्तानुग्रहकारणम् । निर्माणं सेतुबंधस्य नानावनमयस्थलम्

dalamekādaśaṁ proktaṁ bhaktānugrahakāraṇam nirmāṇaṁ setubaṁdhasya nānāvanamayasthalam

"The eleventh petal is said to be the cause of grace upon devotees, the place of the building of the Setubandha, a site abounding in many groves."

Verse 48 (padma.5.69.48)

भांडीरं द्वादशदलं वनं रम्यं मनोहरम् । कृष्णः क्रीडारतस्तत्र श्रीदामादिभिरावृतः

bhāṁḍīraṁ dvādaśadalaṁ vanaṁ ramyaṁ manoharam kṛṣṇaḥ krīḍāratastatra śrīdāmādibhirāvṛtaḥ

"The twelfth petal is Bhandira forest, delightful and lovely; there Krishna delighted in play, surrounded by Shridama and his other friends."

Verse 49 (padma.5.69.49)

त्रयोदशं दलं श्रेष्ठं तत्र भद्रवनं(रं) स्मृतम् । चतुर्दशदलं प्रोक्तं सर्वसिद्धिप्रदस्थलम्

trayodaśaṁ dalaṁ śreṣṭhaṁ tatra bhadravanaṁ(raṁ) smṛtam caturdaśadalaṁ proktaṁ sarvasiddhipradasthalam

"The thirteenth petal, the best, is remembered as Bhadravana there. The fourteenth petal is said to be a place bestowing every perfection."

Verse 50 (padma.5.69.50)

श्रीवनं तत्र रुचिरं सर्वैश्वर्यस्य कारणम् । कृष्णक्रीडादलमयं श्रीकांतिकीर्तिवर्द्धनम्

śrīvanaṁ tatra ruciraṁ sarvaiśvaryasya kāraṇam kṛṣṇakrīḍādalamayaṁ śrīkāṁtikīrtivarddhanam

"There is lovely Shrivana, the source of every glory, a petal made of Krishna's play, ever increasing splendor, beauty, and fame."

Verse 51 (padma.5.69.51)

दलं पंचदशं श्रेष्ठं तत्र लोहवनं स्मृतम् । कथितं षोडशदलं माहात्म्यं कर्णिकासमम्

dalaṁ paṁcadaśaṁ śreṣṭhaṁ tatra lohavanaṁ smṛtam kathitaṁ ṣoḍaśadalaṁ māhātmyaṁ karṇikāsamam

"The fifteenth petal, the best, is remembered as Lohavana there. The sixteenth petal is now described, its glory equal to the whorl."

Verse 52 (padma.5.69.52)

महावनं तत्र गीतं तत्रास्ति गुह्यमुत्तमम् । बालक्रीडारतस्तत्र वत्सपालैः समावृतः

mahāvanaṁ tatra gītaṁ tatrāsti guhyamuttamam bālakrīḍāratastatra vatsapālaiḥ samāvṛtaḥ

"There is sung of as Mahavana, and there lies a supreme secret; there Krishna delighted in childhood play, surrounded by the cowherd boys who tended the calves."

Verse 53 (padma.5.69.53)

पूतनादिवधस्तत्र यमलार्जुनभंजनम् । अधिष्ठाता तत्र बालगोपालः पंचमाब्दिकः

pūtanādivadhastatra yamalārjunabhaṁjanam adhiṣṭhātā tatra bālagopālaḥ paṁcamābdikaḥ

"There the slaying of Putana and other demons took place, and the breaking of the twin Arjuna trees; the presiding deity there is Balagopala, at the age of five."

Verse 54 (padma.5.69.54)

नाम्ना दामोदरः प्रोक्तः प्रेमानंदरसार्णवः । दलं प्रसिद्धमाख्यातं सर्वश्रेष्ठदलोत्तमम्

nāmnā dāmodaraḥ proktaḥ premānaṁdarasārṇavaḥ dalaṁ prasiddhamākhyātaṁ sarvaśreṣṭhadalottamam

"He is called by the name Damodara, an ocean of the sweetness of love and bliss. This celebrated petal is the best among all the best of petals."

Verse 55 (padma.5.69.55)

कृष्णक्रीडा च किंजल्की विहारदलमुच्यते । सिद्धप्रधानकिंजल्क दलं च समुदाहृतम्

kṛṣṇakrīḍā ca kiṁjalkī vihāradalamucyate siddhapradhānakiṁjalka dalaṁ ca samudāhṛtam

"Krishna's play forms the filaments of the lotus; the petal of his sport is thus described — the petal that is the chief filament of perfection has been declared."

Verse 56 (padma.5.69.56)

पार्वत्युवाच-। वृंदारण्यस्य माहात्म्यं रहस्यं वा किमद्भुतम् । तदहं श्रोतुमिच्छामि कथयस्व महाप्रभो

pārvatyuvāca- vṛṁdāraṇyasya māhātmyaṁ rahasyaṁ vā kimadbhutam tadahaṁ śrotumicchāmi kathayasva mahāprabho

Parvati said: "Whatever wondrous mystery there is in the glory of the Vrinda forest — that I wish to hear; tell me, O great lord."

Verse 57 (padma.5.69.57)

ईश्वर उवाच-। कथितं ते प्रियतमे गुह्याद्गुह्योत्तमोत्तमम् । रहस्यानां रहस्यं यद्दुर्लभानां च दुर्लभम्

īśvara uvāca- kathitaṁ te priyatame guhyādguhyottamottamam rahasyānāṁ rahasyaṁ yaddurlabhānāṁ ca durlabham

Ishvara said: "I have told you, dearest one, the most secret of secrets — that which is the secret of secrets, and the rarest of the rare."

Verse 58 (padma.5.69.58)

त्रैलोक्यगोपितं देवि देवेश्वरसुपूजितम् । ब्रह्मादिवांछितं स्थानं सुरसिद्धादिसेवितम्

trailokyagopitaṁ devi deveśvarasupūjitam brahmādivāṁchitaṁ sthānaṁ surasiddhādisevitam

"Hidden from the three worlds, O goddess, well worshipped by the lords of the gods, this is the place longed for by Brahma and the others, served by gods, perfected beings, and the rest."

Verse 59 (padma.5.69.59)

योगींद्रा हि सदा भक्त्या तस्य ध्यानैकतत्पराः । अप्सरोभिश्च गंधर्वैर्नृत्यगीतनिरंतरम्

yogīṁdrā hi sadā bhaktyā tasya dhyānaikatatparāḥ apsarobhiśca gaṁdharvairnṛtyagītaniraṁtaram

"The lords of yoga are ever devoted solely to meditation upon it, with devotion; by apsarases and gandharvas it resounds ceaselessly with dance and song."

Verse 60 (padma.5.69.60)

श्रीमद्वृंदावनं रम्यं पूर्णानंदरसाश्रयम् । भूरिचिंतामणिस्तोयममृतं रसपूरितम्

śrīmadvṛṁdāvanaṁ ramyaṁ pūrṇānaṁdarasāśrayam bhūriciṁtāmaṇistoyamamṛtaṁ rasapūritam

"Glorious, delightful Vrindavana, the abode of the fullness of blissful sweetness; its ground is made of abundant wish-fulfilling gems, its water is nectar, filled with sweetness."

Verse 61 (padma.5.69.61)

वृक्षं गुरुद्रुमं तत्र सुरभीवृंदसेवितम् । स्त्रीं लक्ष्मीं पुरुषं विष्णुं तद्दशांशसमुद्भवम्

vṛkṣaṁ gurudrumaṁ tatra surabhīvṛṁdasevitam strīṁ lakṣmīṁ puruṣaṁ viṣṇuṁ taddaśāṁśasamudbhavam

"Its trees are great wish-fulfilling trees, served by herds of Surabhi cows; the woman Lakshmi and the man Vishnu arise as but a tenth part of that."

Verse 62 (padma.5.69.62)

तत्र कैशोरवयसं नित्यमानंदविग्रहम् । गतिनाट्यं कलालापस्मितवक्त्रं निरंतरम्

tatra kaiśoravayasaṁ nityamānaṁdavigraham gatināṭyaṁ kalālāpasmitavaktraṁ niraṁtaram

"There Krishna dwells eternally in the age of youth, his form itself made of bliss, his every movement a dance, his speech sweet murmuring, his face ever smiling."

Verse 63 (padma.5.69.63)

शुद्धसत्वैः प्रेमपूर्णैर्वैष्णवैस्तद्वनाश्रितम् । पूर्णब्रह्मसुखेमग्नं स्फुरत्तन्मूर्तितन्मयम्

śuddhasatvaiḥ premapūrṇairvaiṣṇavaistadvanāśritam pūrṇabrahmasukhemagnaṁ sphurattanmūrtitanmayam

"That forest is the refuge of Vaishnavas of pure goodness, full of love, immersed in the bliss of the complete Brahman, wholly absorbed in his radiant form."

Verse 64 (padma.5.69.64)

मत्तकोकिलभृंगाद्यैः कूजत्कलमनोहरम् । कपोलशुकसंगीतमुन्मत्तालि सहस्रकम्

mattakokilabhṛṁgādyaiḥ kūjatkalamanoharam kapolaśukasaṁgītamunmattāli sahasrakam

"Made lovely by the sweet cooing of intoxicated cuckoos and bees, by the songs of doves and parrots, by a thousand maddened bees."

Verse 65 (padma.5.69.65)

भुजंगशत्रुनृत्याढ्यं सकलामोदविभ्रमम् । नानावर्णैश्च कुसुमैस्तद्रेणुपरिपूरितम्

bhujaṁgaśatrunṛtyāḍhyaṁ sakalāmodavibhramam nānāvarṇaiśca kusumaistadreṇuparipūritam

"Rich with the dancing of the peacocks, enemies of serpents, filled with every delight and enchantment, its very dust suffused with flowers of many colors."

Verse 66 (padma.5.69.66)

पूर्णेंदुनित्याभ्युदयं सूर्यमंदांशुसेवितम् । अदुःखं दुःखविच्छेदं जरामरणवर्जितम्

pūrṇeṁdunityābhyudayaṁ sūryamaṁdāṁśusevitam aduḥkhaṁ duḥkhavicchedaṁ jarāmaraṇavarjitam

"Where the full moon eternally rises, and the sun's rays fall gently; free from sorrow, cutting away all sorrow, free from old age and death."

Verse 67 (padma.5.69.67)

अक्रोधं गतमात्सर्यमभिन्नमनहंकृतम् । पूर्णानंदामृतरसं पूर्णप्रेमसुखार्णवम्

akrodhaṁ gatamātsaryamabhinnamanahaṁkṛtam pūrṇānaṁdāmṛtarasaṁ pūrṇapremasukhārṇavam

"Free from anger, beyond envy, undivided, without ego; full of the nectar-sweetness of complete bliss, an ocean of the joy of perfect love."

Verse 68 (padma.5.69.68)

गुणातीतं महद्धाम पूर्णप्रेमस्वरूपकम् । वृक्षादिपुलकैर्यत्र प्रेमानंदाश्रुवर्षितम्

guṇātītaṁ mahaddhāma pūrṇapremasvarūpakam vṛkṣādipulakairyatra premānaṁdāśruvarṣitam

"That great abode, beyond the three gunas, whose very nature is perfect love, where even the trees thrill with rapture and rain down tears of the bliss of love."

Verse 69 (padma.5.69.69)

किं पुनश्चेतनायुक्तैर्विष्णुभक्तैः किमुच्यते । गोविंदांघ्रिरजः स्पर्शान्नित्यं वृंदावनं भुवि

kiṁ punaścetanāyuktairviṣṇubhaktaiḥ kimucyate goviṁdāṁghrirajaḥ sparśānnityaṁ vṛṁdāvanaṁ bhuvi

"What then need be said of conscious devotees of Vishnu? By the touch of the dust of Govinda's feet alone, Vrindavana remains eternal upon this earth."

Verse 70 (padma.5.69.70)

सहस्रदलपद्मस्य वृंदारण्यं वराटकम् । यस्य स्पर्शनमात्रेण पृथ्वी धन्या जगत्त्रये

sahasradalapadmasya vṛṁdāraṇyaṁ varāṭakam yasya sparśanamātreṇa pṛthvī dhanyā jagattraye

"The Vrinda forest is like the very calyx of the thousand-petaled lotus; by mere contact with it the earth becomes blessed among the three worlds."

Verse 71 (padma.5.69.71)

गुह्याद्गुह्यतरं रम्यं मध्ये वृंदावनं भुवि । अक्षरं परमानंदं गोविंदस्थानमव्ययम्

guhyādguhyataraṁ ramyaṁ madhye vṛṁdāvanaṁ bhuvi akṣaraṁ paramānaṁdaṁ goviṁdasthānamavyayam

"More secret than secrets, delightful, in its very midst is Vrindavana upon this earth — imperishable, supremely blissful, the unfailing abode of Govinda."

Verse 72 (padma.5.69.72)

गोविंददेहतोऽभिन्नं पूर्णब्रह्मसुखाश्रयम् । मुक्तिस्तत्र रजःस्पर्शात्तन्माहात्म्यं किमुच्यते

goviṁdadehato'bhinnaṁ pūrṇabrahmasukhāśrayam muktistatra rajaḥsparśāttanmāhātmyaṁ kimucyate

"Undivided from Govinda's very body, the refuge of the bliss of the complete Brahman — liberation itself comes from mere contact with its dust; what more can be said of its glory?"

Verse 73 (padma.5.69.73)

तस्मात्सर्वात्मना देवि हृदिस्थं तद्वनं कुरु । वृंदावनविहारेषु कृष्णं कैशोरविग्रहम्

tasmātsarvātmanā devi hṛdisthaṁ tadvanaṁ kuru vṛṁdāvanavihāreṣu kṛṣṇaṁ kaiśoravigraham

"Therefore, O goddess, with your whole being enshrine that forest in your heart, together with Krishna in his youthful form amid the sports of Vrindavana."

Verse 74 (padma.5.69.74)

कालिंदी चाकरोद्यस्य कर्णिकायां प्रदक्षिणाम् । लीलानिर्वाणगंभीरं जलं सौरभमोहनम्

kāliṁdī cākarodyasya karṇikāyāṁ pradakṣiṇām līlānirvāṇagaṁbhīraṁ jalaṁ saurabhamohanam

"The Kalindi circles around its very whorl; its water, deep with the peace of divine play, is enchanting with fragrance."

Verse 75 (padma.5.69.75)

आनंदामृत तन्मिश्रमकरंदघनालयम् । पद्मोत्पलाद्यैः कुसुमैर्नानावर्णसमुज्जवलम्

ānaṁdāmṛta tanmiśramakaraṁdaghanālayam padmotpalādyaiḥ kusumairnānāvarṇasamujjavalam

"Mingled with the nectar of bliss, its bed dense with honey, radiant with lotuses, blue lotuses, and flowers of many colors."

Verse 76 (padma.5.69.76)

चक्रवाकादिविहगैर्मंजुनानाकलस्वनैः । शोभमानं जलं रम्यं तरंगातिमनोरमम्

cakravākādivihagairmaṁjunānākalasvanaiḥ śobhamānaṁ jalaṁ ramyaṁ taraṁgātimanoramam

"Graced by chakravaka and other birds with their sweet and varied calls, that lovely water shines, most enchanting with its waves."

Verse 77 (padma.5.69.77)

तस्योभयतटी रम्या शुद्धकांचननिर्मिता । गंगाकोटिगुणा प्रोक्ता यत्र स्पर्शवराटकः

tasyobhayataṭī ramyā śuddhakāṁcananirmitā gaṁgākoṭiguṇā proktā yatra sparśavarāṭakaḥ

"Its two banks, lovely and made of pure gold, are said to be a myriad times more sacred than the Ganga; there the mere touch is beyond price."

Verse 78 (padma.5.69.78)

कर्णिकायां कोटिगुणो यत्र क्रीडारतो हरिः । कालिंदीकर्णिका कृष्णमभिन्नमेकविग्रहम्

karṇikāyāṁ koṭiguṇo yatra krīḍārato hariḥ kāliṁdīkarṇikā kṛṣṇamabhinnamekavigraham

"At its whorl the sanctity is a myriad times greater still, for there Hari delights in his play; the Kalindi and the whorl are undivided, one single form, from Krishna himself."

Verse 79 (padma.5.69.79)

पार्वत्युवाच। गोविंदस्य किमाश्चर्यं सौंदर्याकृतविग्रह । तदहं श्रोतुमिच्छामि कथयस्व दयानिधे

pārvatyuvāca goviṁdasya kimāścaryaṁ sauṁdaryākṛtavigraha tadahaṁ śrotumicchāmi kathayasva dayānidhe

Parvati said: "What is the wondrous form of Govinda, whose very shape is fashioned of beauty? That I wish to hear; tell me, O ocean of compassion."

Verse 80 (padma.5.69.80)

ईश्वर उवाच। मध्ये वृंदावने रम्ये मंजुमंजीरशोभिते । योजनाश्रितसद्वृक्ष शाखापल्लवमंडिते

īśvara uvāca madhye vṛṁdāvane ramye maṁjumaṁjīraśobhite yojanāśritasadvṛkṣa śākhāpallavamaṁḍite

Ishvara said: "In the midst of delightful Vrindavana, graced with sweet anklet-bells, adorned for a whole yojana with the branches and shoots of fine trees —"

Verse 81 (padma.5.69.81)

तन्मध्ये मंजुभवने योगपीठं समुज्जवलम् । तदष्टकोणनिर्माणं नानादीप्तिमनोहरम्

tanmadhye maṁjubhavane yogapīṭhaṁ samujjavalam tadaṣṭakoṇanirmāṇaṁ nānādīptimanoharam

"in its very midst, within a lovely bower, is a radiant yoga-seat, built in eight corners, enchanting with manifold splendor."

Verse 82 (padma.5.69.82)

तस्योपरि च माणिक्यरत्नसिंहासनं शुभम् । तस्मिन्नष्टदलं पद्मं कर्णिकायां सुखाश्रयम्

tasyopari ca māṇikyaratnasiṁhāsanaṁ śubham tasminnaṣṭadalaṁ padmaṁ karṇikāyāṁ sukhāśrayam

"Above it is an auspicious throne of ruby-gems; upon it is an eight-petaled lotus, and in its whorl, the abode of joy."

Verse 83 (padma.5.69.83)

गोविंदस्य परं स्थानं किमस्य महिमोच्यते । श्रीमद्गोविंदमंत्रस्थ बल्लवीवृंदसेवितम्

goviṁdasya paraṁ sthānaṁ kimasya mahimocyate śrīmadgoviṁdamaṁtrastha ballavīvṛṁdasevitam

"That is the supreme place of Govinda — what more can be said of its glory? It is served by the multitude of cowherd maidens established in the glorious Govinda-mantra."

Verse 84 (padma.5.69.84)

दिव्यव्रजवयोरूपं कृष्णं वृंदावनेश्वरम् । व्रजेंद्रं संततैश्वर्यं व्रजबालैकवल्लभम्

divyavrajavayorūpaṁ kṛṣṇaṁ vṛṁdāvaneśvaram vrajeṁdraṁ saṁtataiśvaryaṁ vrajabālaikavallabham

"There is Krishna, of divine cowherd-youth's form, lord of Vrindavana, king of Vraja, of unbroken glory, the sole beloved of the maidens of Vraja."

Verse 85 (padma.5.69.85)

यौवनोद्भिन्नकैशोरं वयसाद्भुतविग्रहम् । अनादिमादिं सर्वेषां नंदगोपप्रियात्मजम्

yauvanodbhinnakaiśoraṁ vayasādbhutavigraham anādimādiṁ sarveṣāṁ naṁdagopapriyātmajam

"His youthfulness just breaking into adolescence, his form wondrous in age; he who is without beginning, yet the beginning of all, the beloved son of Nanda the cowherd."

Verse 86 (padma.5.69.86)

श्रुतिमृग्यमजं नित्यं गोपीजनमनोहरम् । परंधाम परं रूपं द्विभुजं गोकुलेश्वरम्

śrutimṛgyamajaṁ nityaṁ gopījanamanoharam paraṁdhāma paraṁ rūpaṁ dvibhujaṁ gokuleśvaram

"Sought by the Vedas, unborn, eternal, enchanting the hearts of the gopis; the supreme abode, the supreme form, two-armed, the lord of Gokula."

Verse 87 (padma.5.69.87)

बल्लवीनंदनं ध्यायेन्निर्गुणस्यैककारणम् । सुश्रीमंतं नवं स्वच्छं श्यामधाममनोहरम्

ballavīnaṁdanaṁ dhyāyennirguṇasyaikakāraṇam suśrīmaṁtaṁ navaṁ svacchaṁ śyāmadhāmamanoharam

"One should meditate upon the delight of the cowherd women, the sole cause of the attributeless Brahman, gloriously radiant, ever fresh, pure, of enchanting dark splendor."

Verse 88 (padma.5.69.88)

नवीननीरदश्रेणी सुस्निग्धं मंजुकुंडलम् । फुल्लेंदीवरसत्कांति सुखस्पर्शं सुखावहम्

navīnanīradaśreṇī susnigdhaṁ maṁjukuṁḍalam phulleṁdīvarasatkāṁti sukhasparśaṁ sukhāvaham

"His hue like a row of fresh rain-clouds, deeply lustrous, with lovely earrings; his splendor like a full-blown blue lotus, delightful to touch, bringer of joy."

Verse 89 (padma.5.69.89)

दलितांजनपुंजाभ चिक्कणं श्याममोहनम् । सुस्निग्धनीलकुटिलाशेषसौरभकुंतलम्

dalitāṁjanapuṁjābha cikkaṇaṁ śyāmamohanam susnigdhanīlakuṭilāśeṣasaurabhakuṁtalam

"Radiant as a mass of crushed collyrium, glistening, enchanting in his dark hue; his curling locks deep-blue, glossy, and altogether fragrant."

Verse 90 (padma.5.69.90)

तदूर्ध्वं दक्षिणे काले श्यामचूडामनोहरम् । नानावर्णोज्ज्वलं राजच्छिखंडिदलमंडितम्

tadūrdhvaṁ dakṣiṇe kāle śyāmacūḍāmanoharam nānāvarṇojjvalaṁ rājacchikhaṁḍidalamaṁḍitam

"Above that, on the right side, is his enchanting dark peacock-crest, radiant with many colors, adorned with a splendid peacock feather."

Verse 91 (padma.5.69.91)

मंदारमंजुगोपुच्छाचूडं चारुविभूषणम् । क्वचिद्बृहद्दलश्रेणी मुकुटेनाभिमंडितम्

maṁdāramaṁjugopucchācūḍaṁ cāruvibhūṣaṇam kvacidbṛhaddalaśreṇī mukuṭenābhimaṁḍitam

"His crest sweetly adorned with mandara flowers in the shape of a cow's tail-tuft, a beautiful ornament; and at times adorned with a crown set with a great row of petals."

Verse 92 (padma.5.69.92)

अनेकमणिमाणिक्यकिरीटभूषणं क्वचित् । लोलालकवृतं राजत्कोटिचंद्रसमाननम्

anekamaṇimāṇikyakirīṭabhūṣaṇaṁ kvacit lolālakavṛtaṁ rājatkoṭicaṁdrasamānanam

"At times adorned with a diadem of many gems and rubies; encircled by restless curling locks, his face shining like a myriad moons."

Verse 93 (padma.5.69.93)

कस्तूरीतिलकं भ्राजन्मंजुगोरोचनान्वितम् । नीलेंदीवरसुस्निग्ध सुदीर्घदललोचनम्

kastūrītilakaṁ bhrājanmaṁjugorocanānvitam nīleṁdīvarasusnigdha sudīrghadalalocanam

"A musk-tilaka gleaming upon his brow, joined with sweet gorochana; his long, lovely eyes glistening like deep-blue lotus petals."

Verse 94 (padma.5.69.94)

आनृत्यद्भ्रूलताश्लेषस्मितं साचि निरीक्षणम् । सुचारून्नतसौंदर्य नासाग्राति मनोहरम्

ānṛtyadbhrūlatāśleṣasmitaṁ sāci nirīkṣaṇam sucārūnnatasauṁdarya nāsāgrāti manoharam

"His creeper-like eyebrows dancing, his smile embracing all, his sidelong glance; his nose exquisitely raised, beautiful, and utterly enchanting at its tip."

Verse 95 (padma.5.69.95)

नासाग्रगजमुक्तांशु मुग्धीकृत जगत्त्रयम् । सिंदूरारुणसुस्निग्धाधरौष्ठसुमनोहरम्

nāsāgragajamuktāṁśu mugdhīkṛta jagattrayam siṁdūrāruṇasusnigdhādharauṣṭhasumanoharam

"The luster of an elephant-pearl at the tip of his nose bewitches the three worlds; his lips, red as vermilion and glistening, are exceedingly lovely."

Verse 96 (padma.5.69.96)

नानावर्णोल्लसत्स्वर्णमकराकृतिकुंडलम् । तद्रश्मिपुंजसद्गंड मुकुराभलसद्द्युतिम्

nānāvarṇollasatsvarṇamakarākṛtikuṁḍalam tadraśmipuṁjasadgaṁḍa mukurābhalasaddyutim

"His makara-shaped golden earrings gleam with many colors; his cheeks, lit by their radiance, shine like mirrors."

Verse 97 (padma.5.69.97)

कर्णोत्पलसुमंदारमकरोत्तंस भूषितम् । श्रीवत्सकौस्तुभोरस्कं मुक्ताहारस्फुरद्गलम्

karṇotpalasumaṁdāramakarottaṁsa bhūṣitam śrīvatsakaustubhoraskaṁ muktāhārasphuradgalam

"His ears adorned with blue lotuses, sweet mandara flowers, and makara ornaments; his chest marked with Shrivatsa and the Kaustubha jewel, his throat gleaming with a pearl necklace."

Verse 98 (padma.5.69.98)

विलसद्दिव्यमाणिक्यं मंजुकांचन मिश्रितम् । करे कंकणकेयूरं किंकिणीकटिशोभितम्

vilasaddivyamāṇikyaṁ maṁjukāṁcana miśritam kare kaṁkaṇakeyūraṁ kiṁkiṇīkaṭiśobhitam

"Resplendent with divine rubies mingled beautifully with gold; bangles and armlets on his arms, his waist graced with tinkling bells."

Verse 99 (padma.5.69.99)

मंजुमंजीरसौंदर्य्यश्रीमदंघ्रि विराजितम् । कर्पूरागुरुकस्तूरीविलसच्चंदनादिकम्

maṁjumaṁjīrasauṁdaryyaśrīmadaṁghri virājitam karpūrāgurukastūrīvilasaccaṁdanādikam

"His glorious feet resplendent with the beauty of sweet anklet-bells; his body gleaming with camphor, aloe-wood, musk, sandal, and the like."

Verse 100 (padma.5.69.100)

गोरोचनादिसंमिश्र दिव्यांगरागचित्रितम् । स्निग्धपीतपटी राजत्प्रपदांदोलितांजनम्

gorocanādisaṁmiśra divyāṁgarāgacitritam snigdhapītapaṭī rājatprapadāṁdolitāṁjanam

"Painted with divine unguents mingled with gorochana and other pigments; wearing lustrous yellow silk, with collyrium-anointed feet swaying at every step."

Verse 101 (padma.5.69.101)

गंभीरनाभिकमलं रोमराजीनतस्रजम् । सुवृत्तजानुयुगलं पादपद्ममनोहरम्

gaṁbhīranābhikamalaṁ romarājīnatasrajam suvṛttajānuyugalaṁ pādapadmamanoharam

"His navel deep as a lotus, the line of hair upon it inclined like a garland; his two knees beautifully rounded, his lotus feet enchanting."

Verse 102 (padma.5.69.102)

ध्वजवज्रांकुशांभोज करांघ्रि तलशोभितम् । नखेंदु किरणश्रेणी पूर्णब्रह्मैककारणम्

dhvajavajrāṁkuśāṁbhoja karāṁghri talaśobhitam nakheṁdu kiraṇaśreṇī pūrṇabrahmaikakāraṇam

"The soles of his hands and feet graced with the marks of banner, thunderbolt, goad, and lotus; the rows of rays from his moon-like nails, the sole cause of the complete Brahman."

Verse 103 (padma.5.69.103)

केचिद्वदंति तस्यांशं ब्रह्मचिद्रूपमद्वयम् । तद्दशांशं महाविष्णुं प्रवदंति मनीषिणः

kecidvadaṁti tasyāṁśaṁ brahmacidrūpamadvayam taddaśāṁśaṁ mahāviṣṇuṁ pravadaṁti manīṣiṇaḥ

"Some say that the non-dual, conscious form of Brahman is but a portion of him; the wise declare that Maha-Vishnu is but a tenth part of that portion."

Verse 104 (padma.5.69.104)

योगींद्रैः सनकाद्यैश्च तदेव हृदि चिंत्यते । त्रिभंगं ललिताशेष निर्माणसारनिर्मितम्

yogīṁdraiḥ sanakādyaiśca tadeva hṛdi ciṁtyate tribhaṁgaṁ lalitāśeṣa nirmāṇasāranirmitam

"That very form is meditated upon in the heart by the lords of yoga, Sanaka and the others; standing in his three-fold bend, fashioned from the very essence of all grace and loveliness."

Verse 105 (padma.5.69.105)

तिर्यग्ग्रीवजितानंतकोटिकंदर्पसुंदरम् । वामांसार्पित सद्गण्डस्फुरत्कांचनकुंडलम्

tiryaggrīvajitānaṁtakoṭikaṁdarpasuṁdaram vāmāṁsārpita sadgaṇḍasphuratkāṁcanakuṁḍalam

"His neck bent sideways, conquering the beauty of countless millions of Kamadevas; his cheek resting upon his left shoulder, his golden earrings glittering there."

Verse 106 (padma.5.69.106)

सहापांगेक्षणस्मेरं कोटिमन्मथसुंदरम् । कुंचिताधरविन्यस्त वंशीमंजुकलस्वनैः

sahāpāṁgekṣaṇasmeraṁ koṭimanmathasuṁdaram kuṁcitādharavinyasta vaṁśīmaṁjukalasvanaiḥ

"Smiling with sidelong glances, beautiful as a myriad Kamadevas; his flute set upon his curved lower lip, sounding with sweet, soft notes,"

जगत्त्रयं मोहयंतं मग्नं प्रेमसुधार्णवे । श्रीपार्वत्युवाच-। परमं कारणं कृष्णं गोविंदाख्यं महत्पदम्

jagattrayaṁ mohayaṁtaṁ magnaṁ premasudhārṇave śrīpārvatyuvāca- paramaṁ kāraṇaṁ kṛṣṇaṁ goviṁdākhyaṁ mahatpadam

"bewitching the three worlds, himself immersed in the nectar-ocean of love." Shri Parvati said: "Krishna, the supreme cause, called Govinda, that great abode —"

Verse 108 (padma.5.69.108)

वृंदावनेश्वरं नित्यं निर्गुणस्यैककारणम् । तत्तद्रहस्यमाहात्म्यं किमाश्चर्यं च सुंदरम्

vṛṁdāvaneśvaraṁ nityaṁ nirguṇasyaikakāraṇam tattadrahasyamāhātmyaṁ kimāścaryaṁ ca suṁdaram

"the eternal lord of Vrindavana, sole cause of the attributeless Brahman — what wondrous and beautiful secret glory belongs to him?"

Verse 109 (padma.5.69.109)

तद्ब्रूहि देवदेवेश श्रोतुमिच्छाम्यहं प्रभो । ईश्वर उवाच-। यदंघ्रिनखचंद्रांशु महिमांतो न गम्यते

tadbrūhi devadeveśa śrotumicchāmyahaṁ prabho īśvara uvāca- yadaṁghrinakhacaṁdrāṁśu mahimāṁto na gamyate

"Tell me that, O lord of the gods of gods; I wish to hear it, O lord." Ishvara said: "The glory of the very rays of the moon-like nails of his feet cannot be fathomed to its end —"

Verse 110 (padma.5.69.110)

तन्माहात्म्यं कियद्देवि प्रोच्यते त्वं मुदा शृणु । अनंतकोटिब्रह्मांडे अनंतत्रिगुणोच्छ्रये

tanmāhātmyaṁ kiyaddevi procyate tvaṁ mudā śṛṇu anaṁtakoṭibrahmāṁḍe anaṁtatriguṇocchraye

"how much of his greatness, then, can be told, O goddess? Listen with joy. In the countless millions of universes, risen up with their endless three gunas —"

तत्कलाकोटिकोट्यंशा ब्रह्मविष्णुमहेश्वराः । सृष्टिस्थित्यादिना युक्तास्तिष्ठंति तस्य वैभवाः

tatkalākoṭikoṭyaṁśā brahmaviṣṇumaheśvarāḥ sṛṣṭisthityādinā yuktāstiṣṭhaṁti tasya vaibhavāḥ

"Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshvara, mere fractions of fractions of his portions, engaged in creation, preservation, and the rest, stand there as manifestations of his glory."

Verse 112 (padma.5.69.112)

तद्रूपकोटिकोट्यंशाः कलाः कंदर्पविग्रहाः । जगन्मोहं प्रकुर्वंति तदंडांतरसंस्थिताः

tadrūpakoṭikoṭyaṁśāḥ kalāḥ kaṁdarpavigrahāḥ jaganmohaṁ prakurvaṁti tadaṁḍāṁtarasaṁsthitāḥ

"Fractions of fractions of his form, portions embodying Kamadeva, established within those universes, cause the bewitching of the worlds."

Verse 113 (padma.5.69.113)

तद्देहविलसत्कांतिकोटिकोट्यंशको विभुः । तत्प्रकाशस्य कोट्यंश रश्मयो रविविग्रहाः

taddehavilasatkāṁtikoṭikoṭyaṁśako vibhuḥ tatprakāśasya koṭyaṁśa raśmayo ravivigrahāḥ

"The all-pervading sun is but a fraction of a fraction of the splendor gleaming from his body; and its light is but a fraction of a fraction of his own radiance."

Verse 114 (padma.5.69.114)

तस्य स्वदेहकिरणैः परानंद रसामृतैः । परमामोदचिद्रूपैर्निर्गुणस्यैककारणैः

tasya svadehakiraṇaiḥ parānaṁda rasāmṛtaiḥ paramāmodacidrūpairnirguṇasyaikakāraṇaiḥ

"By the rays of his own body, which are the nectar-sweetness of supreme bliss, forms of consciousness of supreme delight, the sole cause of the attributeless Brahman —"

Verse 115 (padma.5.69.115)

तदंशकोटिकोट्यंशा जीवंति किरणात्मकाः । तदंघ्रिपंकजद्वंद्व नखचंद्र मणिप्रभाः

tadaṁśakoṭikoṭyaṁśā jīvaṁti kiraṇātmakāḥ tadaṁghripaṁkajadvaṁdva nakhacaṁdra maṇiprabhāḥ

"fractions of fractions of his portions live on as those very rays — the radiance of the jewel-like, moon-bright nails of his two lotus feet."

Verse 116 (padma.5.69.116)

आहुः पूर्णब्रह्मणोऽपि कारणं वेददुर्गमम् । तदंशसौरभानंतकोट्यंशो विश्वमोहनः

āhuḥ pūrṇabrahmaṇo'pi kāraṇaṁ vedadurgamam tadaṁśasaurabhānaṁtakoṭyaṁśo viśvamohanaḥ

"They declare him to be the cause even of the complete Brahman, unattainable by the Veda; a fraction of the fragrance of but a portion of him bewitches the entire universe."

Verse 117 (padma.5.69.117)

तत्स्पर्शपुष्पगंधादि नानासौरभसंभवः । तत्प्रिया प्रकृतिस्त्वाद्या राधिका कृष्णवल्लभा

tatsparśapuṣpagaṁdhādi nānāsaurabhasaṁbhavaḥ tatpriyā prakṛtistvādyā rādhikā kṛṣṇavallabhā

"From contact with him arise the manifold fragrances of flowers and the like. His beloved is Prakriti herself, the primeval one — Radhika, dear to Krishna."

Verse 118 (padma.5.69.118)

तत्कलाकोटिकोट्यंशा दुर्गाद्यास्त्रिगुणात्मिकाः । तस्या अंघ्रिरजः स्पर्शात्कोटिविष्णुः प्रजायते

tatkalākoṭikoṭyaṁśā durgādyāstriguṇātmikāḥ tasyā aṁghrirajaḥ sparśātkoṭiviṣṇuḥ prajāyate

"Durga and the other goddesses, embodiments of the three gunas, are but fractions of fractions of her portion; from the mere touch of the dust of her feet, countless millions of Vishnus are born."
