The Divine Retinue of Vrindavana

Verse 1 (padma.5.70.1)

पार्वत्युवाच- यदाकर्णनमेतस्य ये वा पारिषदाः प्रभोः । तदहं श्रोतुमिच्छामि कथयस्व दयानिधे

pārvatyuvāca- yadākarṇanametasya ye vā pāriṣadāḥ prabhoḥ tadahaṁ śrotumicchāmi kathayasva dayānidhe

Parvati said: "Whatever should be heard concerning this — the attendants of the Lord — that I wish to hear; tell me, O ocean of compassion."

Verse 2 (padma.5.70.2)

ईश्वर उवाच। राधया सह गोविंदं स्वर्णसिंहासनेस्थितम् । पूर्वोक्तरूपलावण्यं दिव्यभूषांबरस्रजम्

īśvara uvāca rādhayā saha goviṁdaṁ svarṇasiṁhāsanesthitam pūrvoktarūpalāvaṇyaṁ divyabhūṣāṁbarasrajam

Ishvara said: "Govinda together with Radha, seated upon a golden throne, of the beauty and form described before, adorned with divine ornaments, garments, and garlands,"

Verse 3 (padma.5.70.3)

त्रिभंगी मंजु सुस्निग्धं गोपीलोचनतारकम् । तद्बाह्ये योगपीठे च स्वर्णसिंहासनावृते

tribhaṁgī maṁju susnigdhaṁ gopīlocanatārakam tadbāhye yogapīṭhe ca svarṇasiṁhāsanāvṛte

"in a graceful threefold bend, sweet, deeply lustrous, the very star of the gopis' eyes — and outside that, on the yoga-seat encircled by a golden throne,"

Verse 4 (padma.5.70.4)

प्रत्यंगरभसावेशाः प्रधानाः कृष्णवल्लभाः । ललिताद्याः प्रकृत्यंशा मूलप्रकृतिराधिका

pratyaṁgarabhasāveśāḥ pradhānāḥ kṛṣṇavallabhāḥ lalitādyāḥ prakṛtyaṁśā mūlaprakṛtirādhikā

"each limb overflowing with intense passion, the chief and dearest of Krishna's beloveds — Lalita and the others, portions of Prakriti, with Radhika as the root Prakriti."

Verse 5 (padma.5.70.5)

संमुखे ललिता देवी श्यामला वायुकोणके । उत्तरे श्रीमती धन्या ऐशान्यां श्रीहरिप्रिया

saṁmukhe lalitā devī śyāmalā vāyukoṇake uttare śrīmatī dhanyā aiśānyāṁ śrīharipriyā

"Facing him is the goddess Lalita; Shyamala in the north-west; in the north, blessed Shrimati; in the north-east, Shri-Haripriya."

Verse 6 (padma.5.70.6)

विशाखा च तथा पूर्वे शैब्या चाग्नौ ततः परम् । पद्मा च दक्षिणे पश्चान्नैर्ऋते क्रमशः स्थिताः

viśākhā ca tathā pūrve śaibyā cāgnau tataḥ param padmā ca dakṣiṇe paścānnairṛte kramaśaḥ sthitāḥ

"Vishakha likewise in the east; Shaibya then in the south-east; Padma in the south, and then in the south-west, they stand in order."

Verse 7 (padma.5.70.7)

योगपीठे केसराग्रे चारु चंद्रावती प्रिया । अष्टौ प्रकृतयः पुण्याः प्रधानाः कृष्णवल्लभाः

yogapīṭhe kesarāgre cāru caṁdrāvatī priyā aṣṭau prakṛtayaḥ puṇyāḥ pradhānāḥ kṛṣṇavallabhāḥ

"On the yoga-seat, at the very tip of the whorl, is the lovely, beloved Chandravati. These are the eight sacred, chief Prakritis, Krishna's beloveds."

Verse 8 (padma.5.70.8)

प्रधानप्रकृतिस्त्वाद्या राधा चंद्रावती समा । चंद्रावली चित्ररेखा चंद्रा मदनसुंदरी

pradhānaprakṛtistvādyā rādhā caṁdrāvatī samā caṁdrāvalī citrarekhā caṁdrā madanasuṁdarī

"The primal, foremost Prakriti is Radha herself, equal to Chandravati; Chandravali, Chitrarekha, Chandra, Madanasundari,"

Verse 9 (padma.5.70.9)

प्रिया च श्रीमधुमती चंद्ररेखा हरिप्रिया । षोडशाद्याः प्रकृतयः प्रधानाः कृष्णवल्लभाः

priyā ca śrīmadhumatī caṁdrarekhā haripriyā ṣoḍaśādyāḥ prakṛtayaḥ pradhānāḥ kṛṣṇavallabhāḥ

"the beloved Shrimadhumati, Chandrarekha, Haripriya — these sixteen are the foremost Prakritis, Krishna's chief beloveds."

Verse 10 (padma.5.70.10)

वृंदावनेश्वरी राधा तथा चंद्रावली प्रिया । अभिन्नगुणलावण्य सौंदर्याश्चारुलोचनाः

vṛṁdāvaneśvarī rādhā tathā caṁdrāvalī priyā abhinnaguṇalāvaṇya sauṁdaryāścārulocanāḥ

"Radha, mistress of Vrindavana, and beloved Chandravali — of undivided qualities, beauty, and loveliness, with lovely eyes,"

Verse 11 (padma.5.70.11)

मनोहरा मुग्धवेषाः किशोरीवयसोज्ज्वलाः । अग्रेतनास्तथा चान्या गोपकन्याः सहस्रशः

manoharā mugdhaveṣāḥ kiśorīvayasojjvalāḥ agretanāstathā cānyā gopakanyāḥ sahasraśaḥ

"enchanting, of innocent bearing, radiant in the age of youth; and before them again other thousands of cowherd maidens,"

Verse 12 (padma.5.70.12)

शुद्धकांचनपुंजाभाः सुप्रसन्नाः सुलोचनाः । तद्रूपहृदयारूढास्तदाश्लेष समुत्सुकाः

śuddhakāṁcanapuṁjābhāḥ suprasannāḥ sulocanāḥ tadrūpahṛdayārūḍhāstadāśleṣa samutsukāḥ

"shining like masses of pure gold, serene and lovely-eyed, whose hearts are fixed upon his form, eager for his embrace,"

Verse 13 (padma.5.70.13)

श्यामामृतरसे मग्नाः स्फुरत्तद्भावमानसाः । नेत्रोत्पलार्चिते कृष्णपादाब्जेऽपितचेतसः

śyāmāmṛtarase magnāḥ sphurattadbhāvamānasāḥ netrotpalārcite kṛṣṇapādābje'pitacetasaḥ

"immersed in the nectar-sweetness of the Shyama, their minds ever revealing that same devotion, their hearts offered at Krishna's lotus feet worshipped by the lotus of their eyes."

Verse 14 (padma.5.70.14)

श्रुतिकन्यास्ततो दक्षे सहस्रायुतसंयुताः । जगन्मुग्धीकृताकारा हृद्वर्तिकृष्णलालसाः

śrutikanyāstato dakṣe sahasrāyutasaṁyutāḥ jaganmugdhīkṛtākārā hṛdvartikṛṣṇalālasāḥ

"Then, to the right, are the daughters of the Shrutis, numbering in the thousands and tens of thousands, their very forms bewitching the world, their hearts yearning for Krishna within."

Verse 15 (padma.5.70.15)

नानासत्वस्वरालापमुग्धीकृतजगत्त्रयाः । तत्र गूढरहस्यानि गायंत्यः प्रेमविह्वलाः

nānāsatvasvarālāpamugdhīkṛtajagattrayāḥ tatra gūḍharahasyāni gāyaṁtyaḥ premavihvalāḥ

"With their varied, sweet modulations of voice, bewitching the three worlds, they sing there the deep secrets, overwhelmed with love."

Verse 16 (padma.5.70.16)

देवकन्यास्ततः सव्ये दिव्यवेषारसोज्ज्वलाः । नानावैदिग्ध्यनिपुणा दिव्यभावभरान्विताः

devakanyāstataḥ savye divyaveṣārasojjvalāḥ nānāvaidigdhyanipuṇā divyabhāvabharānvitāḥ

"Then, to the left, are the daughters of the gods, radiant with divine dress and sentiment, skilled in every art, filled with waves of divine feeling,"

Verse 17 (padma.5.70.17)

सौंदर्यातिशयेनाढ्याः कटाक्षातिमनोहराः । निर्लज्जास्तत्र गोविंदे तदंगस्पर्शनोद्यताः

sauṁdaryātiśayenāḍhyāḥ kaṭākṣātimanoharāḥ nirlajjāstatra goviṁde tadaṁgasparśanodyatāḥ

"rich with excess of beauty, most enchanting with their sidelong glances, there before Govinda, free of all shyness, eager to touch his very limbs,"

Verse 18 (padma.5.70.18)

तद्भावमग्नमनसः स्मितसाचि निरीक्षणाः । मंदिरस्य ततो बाह्ये प्रियया विशदावृते

tadbhāvamagnamanasaḥ smitasāci nirīkṣaṇāḥ maṁdirasya tato bāhye priyayā viśadāvṛte

"their minds immersed in that same feeling, their gaze sidelong and smiling. Then, outside the temple, encircled by his radiant beloved,"

Verse 19 (padma.5.70.19)

समानवेषवयसः समानबलपौरुषाः । समानगुणकर्माणः समानाभरणप्रियाः

samānaveṣavayasaḥ samānabalapauruṣāḥ samānaguṇakarmāṇaḥ samānābharaṇapriyāḥ

"are companions of like dress and age, of like strength and manly vigor, of like virtues and deeds, fond of like ornaments,"

Verse 20 (padma.5.70.20)

समानस्वरसंगीत वेणुवादनतत्पराः । श्रीदामा पश्चिमे द्वारे वसुदामा तथोत्तरे

samānasvarasaṁgīta veṇuvādanatatparāḥ śrīdāmā paścime dvāre vasudāmā tathottare

"devoted to like melody in song and to playing the flute: Shridama at the western gate, Vasudama at the northern,"

Verse 21 (padma.5.70.21)

सुदामा च तथा पूर्वे किंकिणी चापि दक्षिणे । तद्बाह्ये स्वर्णपीठे च सुवर्णमंदिरावृते

sudāmā ca tathā pūrve kiṁkiṇī cāpi dakṣiṇe tadbāhye svarṇapīṭhe ca suvarṇamaṁdirāvṛte

"Sudama likewise at the eastern, and Kinkini too at the southern gate. Outside that, on a golden seat, within a golden temple,"

Verse 22 (padma.5.70.22)

स्वर्णवेद्यंतरस्थे तु स्वर्णाभरणभूषिते । स्तोककृष्णं सुभद्राद्यैर्गोपालैरयुतायुतैः

svarṇavedyaṁtarasthe tu svarṇābharaṇabhūṣite stokakṛṣṇaṁ subhadrādyairgopālairayutāyutaiḥ

"situated amid a golden altar, adorned with golden ornaments, is the tender child Krishna, with Subhadra and the other cowherds, tens of thousands upon tens of thousands,"

Verse 23 (padma.5.70.23)

शृंगवीणावेणुवेत्रवयोवेषाकृतिस्वरैः । तद्गुणध्यानसंयुक्तैर्गायद्भिरपि विह्वलैः

śṛṁgavīṇāveṇuvetravayoveṣākṛtisvaraiḥ tadguṇadhyānasaṁyuktairgāyadbhirapi vihvalaiḥ

"with their horns, vinas, flutes, staves, their forms, dress and voices suited to their age, united in meditation upon his virtues, singing, overwhelmed,"

Verse 24 (padma.5.70.24)

चित्रार्पितैश्चित्ररूपैः सदानंदाश्रुवर्षिभिः । पुलकाकुलसर्वांगैर्योगींद्रैरिव विस्मितैः

citrārpitaiścitrarūpaiḥ sadānaṁdāśruvarṣibhiḥ pulakākulasarvāṁgairyogīṁdrairiva vismitaiḥ

"depicted in wondrous, varied forms, forever raining tears of bliss, every limb thrilled with rapture, astonished like the very lords of yoga,"

Verse 25 (padma.5.70.25)

क्षरत्ययोभिर्गोविंदैरसंख्यातैरुपावृतम् । तद्बाह्ये स्वर्णप्राकारे कोटिसूर्यसमुज्जवले

kṣaratyayobhirgoviṁdairasaṁkhyātairupāvṛtam tadbāhye svarṇaprākāre koṭisūryasamujjavale

"streaming with ceaseless devotion — the child Krishna is surrounded by innumerable such companions. Outside that, within a golden rampart, radiant as a myriad suns,"

Verse 26 (padma.5.70.26)

चतुर्दिक्षुमहोद्यानं मंजुसौरभमोहिते । पश्चिमे संमुखे श्रीमत्पारिजातद्रुमाश्रये

caturdikṣumahodyānaṁ maṁjusaurabhamohite paścime saṁmukhe śrīmatpārijātadrumāśraye

"in all four directions is a great garden, enchanting with sweet fragrance; to the west, facing forward, is the glorious grove of the Parijata tree,"

Verse 27 (padma.5.70.27)

तदधस्तु स्वर्णपीठे स्वर्णमंडनमंडिते । तन्मध्ये मणिमाणिक्य दिव्यसिंहासनोज्ज्वले

tadadhastu svarṇapīṭhe svarṇamaṁḍanamaṁḍite tanmadhye maṇimāṇikya divyasiṁhāsanojjvale

"beneath it, on a golden seat, adorned with golden ornaments, in its midst, upon a radiant divine throne set with gems and rubies,"

Verse 28 (padma.5.70.28)

तत्रोपरि परानंदं वासुदेवं जगत्प्रभुम् । त्रिगुणातीतचिद्रूपं सर्वकारणकारणम्

tatropari parānaṁdaṁ vāsudevaṁ jagatprabhum triguṇātītacidrūpaṁ sarvakāraṇakāraṇam

"there above sits supremely blissful Vasudeva, lord of the universe, of a form of consciousness beyond the three gunas, the cause of all causes,"

Verse 29 (padma.5.70.29)

इंद्रनीलघनश्यामं नीलकुंचितकुंतलम् । पद्मपत्रविशालाक्षं मकराकृतिकुंडलम्

iṁdranīlaghanaśyāmaṁ nīlakuṁcitakuṁtalam padmapatraviśālākṣaṁ makarākṛtikuṁḍalam

"dark as a mass of sapphire, with dark curling locks, his eyes wide as lotus petals, wearing makara-shaped earrings,"

Verse 30 (padma.5.70.30)

चतुर्भुजं तु चक्रासिगदाशंखांबुजायुधम् । आद्यंतरहितं नित्यं प्रधानं पुरुषोत्तमम्

caturbhujaṁ tu cakrāsigadāśaṁkhāṁbujāyudham ādyaṁtarahitaṁ nityaṁ pradhānaṁ puruṣottamam

"four-armed, bearing the discus, sword, mace, conch, and lotus as his weapons, without beginning or end, eternal, the foremost Purushottama,"

Verse 31 (padma.5.70.31)

ज्योतीरूपं महद्धाम पुराणं वनमालिनम् । पीतांबरधरं स्निग्धं दिव्यभूषणभूषितम्

jyotīrūpaṁ mahaddhāma purāṇaṁ vanamālinam pītāṁbaradharaṁ snigdhaṁ divyabhūṣaṇabhūṣitam

"of the form of light, the great abode, primeval, wearing a garland of forest flowers, clad in yellow silk, glossy, adorned with divine ornaments,"

Verse 32 (padma.5.70.32)

दिव्यानुलेपनं राजच्चित्रितांग मनोहरम् । रुक्मिणी सत्यभामा च नाग्नजिती सुलक्षणा

divyānulepanaṁ rājaccitritāṁga manoharam rukmiṇī satyabhāmā ca nāgnajitī sulakṣaṇā

"anointed with divine unguents, his radiant, painted limbs enchanting. With him are Rukmini, Satyabhama, Nagnajiti of auspicious marks,"

Verse 33 (padma.5.70.33)

मित्रविंदानुविंदा सुनंदा जांबवती प्रिया । सुशीला चाष्टमहिला वासुदेवप्रियास्ततः

mitraviṁdānuviṁdā sunaṁdā jāṁbavatī priyā suśīlā cāṣṭamahilā vāsudevapriyāstataḥ

"Mitravinda, Anuvinda, Sunanda, the beloved Jambavati, and Sushila — the eight chief queens, Vasudeva's beloveds,"

Verse 34 (padma.5.70.34)

उद्भ्राजिताः पारिषदा वृतयोर्भक्तितत्पराः । उत्तरे सुमहोद्याने हरिचंदनसंश्रये

udbhrājitāḥ pāriṣadā vṛtayorbhaktitatparāḥ uttare sumahodyāne haricaṁdanasaṁśraye

"shining attendants, devoted in their circles to devotion. In the north, in a great garden, filled with sandalwood trees,"

Verse 35 (padma.5.70.35)

तत्राधस्तु स्वर्णपीठे मणिमंडपमंडिते । तन्मध्ये हेमनिर्माणदले सिंहासनोज्जवले

tatrādhastu svarṇapīṭhe maṇimaṁḍapamaṁḍite tanmadhye hemanirmāṇadale siṁhāsanojjavale

"there below, on a golden seat, adorned with a jeweled pavilion, in its midst, upon a radiant throne fashioned of gold with petals,"

Verse 36 (padma.5.70.36)

तत्रैव सह रेवत्या संकर्षण हलायुधम् । ईश्वरस्य प्रियानंतमभिन्नगुणरूपिणम्

tatraiva saha revatyā saṁkarṣaṇa halāyudham īśvarasya priyānaṁtamabhinnaguṇarūpiṇam

"there, together with Revati, is Sankarshana, Halayudha (Balarama), the beloved Ananta, of undivided quality and form with the Lord,"

Verse 37 (padma.5.70.37)

शुद्धस्फटिकसंकाशं रक्तांबुज दलेक्षणम् । नीलपट्टधरं स्निग्धं दिव्यभूषास्रगंबरम्

śuddhasphaṭikasaṁkāśaṁ raktāṁbuja dalekṣaṇam nīlapaṭṭadharaṁ snigdhaṁ divyabhūṣāsragaṁbaram

"resembling pure crystal, his eyes like the petals of a red lotus, wearing a dark-blue garment, glossy, adorned with divine ornaments, garlands, and clothes,"

Verse 38 (padma.5.70.38)

मधुपाने सदासक्तं मधुघूर्णितलोचनम् । प्रवीरदक्षिणेभागे मंजुनाभ्यंतरस्थिते

madhupāne sadāsaktaṁ madhughūrṇitalocanam pravīradakṣiṇebhāge maṁjunābhyaṁtarasthite

"ever devoted to drinking honey-wine, his eyes rolling from the wine — on the right side of that foremost hero, within a sweet inner grove,"

Verse 39 (padma.5.70.39)

संतानवृक्षमूले तु मणिमंदिरमंडितम् । तन्मध्ये मणिमाणिक्य दिव्यसिंहासनोज्ज्वले

saṁtānavṛkṣamūle tu maṇimaṁdiramaṁḍitam tanmadhye maṇimāṇikya divyasiṁhāsanojjvale

"at the root of a wish-fulfilling tree, adorned with a jeweled temple, in its midst, upon a radiant divine throne set with gems and rubies,"

Verse 40 (padma.5.70.40)

प्रद्युम्नं च रती देवं तत्रोपरिसुखस्थितम् । जगन्मोहनसौंदर्य्यसारश्रेणीरसात्मकम्

pradyumnaṁ ca ratī devaṁ tatroparisukhasthitam jaganmohanasauṁdaryyasāraśreṇīrasātmakam

"is Pradyumna, seated blissfully above with the goddess Rati, the very essence and series of the sweetness that enchants the world,"

Verse 41 (padma.5.70.41)

असितांभोजपुंजाभमरविंददलेक्षणम् । दिव्यालंकारभूषाभिर्दिव्यगंधानुलेपनम्

asitāṁbhojapuṁjābhamaraviṁdadalekṣaṇam divyālaṁkārabhūṣābhirdivyagaṁdhānulepanam

"dark as a mass of blue lotuses, his eyes like lotus petals, adorned with divine ornaments and jewelry, anointed with divine fragrance,"

Verse 42 (padma.5.70.42)

जगन्मुग्धीकृताशेष सौंदर्याश्चर्यविग्रहम् । पूर्वोद्याने महारण्ये सुरद्रुम समाश्रये

jaganmugdhīkṛtāśeṣa sauṁdaryāścaryavigraham pūrvodyāne mahāraṇye suradruma samāśraye

"his wondrous form of beauty having bewitched the entire world. Then, in the eastern garden, a great forest filled with celestial trees,"

Verse 43 (padma.5.70.43)

तत्राधस्तु स्वर्णपीठे हेममंडपमंडिते । तस्य मध्ये स्थिरे राजद्दिव्यसिंहासनोज्ज्वले

tatrādhastu svarṇapīṭhe hemamaṁḍapamaṁḍite tasya madhye sthire rājaddivyasiṁhāsanojjvale

"beneath it, on a golden seat, adorned with a golden pavilion, in its midst, standing fixed, upon a radiant divine throne,"

Verse 44 (padma.5.70.44)

दिव्योषयासमं श्रीमदनिरुद्धं जगत्पतिम् । सांद्रानंदघनश्यामं सुस्निग्धं नीलकुंतलम्

divyoṣayāsamaṁ śrīmadaniruddhaṁ jagatpatim sāṁdrānaṁdaghanaśyāmaṁ susnigdhaṁ nīlakuṁtalam

"is glorious Aniruddha, lord of the universe, like divine nectar itself, of dense, cloud-dark hue, deeply lustrous, with dark-blue curling locks,"

Verse 45 (padma.5.70.45)

सुभ्रून्नतलताभंगीं सुकपोलं सुनासिकम् । सुग्रीवं सुंदरं वक्षो मनोहर मनोहरम्

subhrūnnatalatābhaṁgīṁ sukapolaṁ sunāsikam sugrīvaṁ suṁdaraṁ vakṣo manohara manoharam

"his eyebrows finely arched like creepers, his cheeks lovely, his nose beautiful, his neck graceful, his chest handsome, altogether enchanting,"

Verse 46 (padma.5.70.46)

किरीटिनं कुंडलिनं कंठभूषाविभूषितम् । मंजुमंजीरमाधुर्यादतिसौंदर्य विग्रहम्

kirīṭinaṁ kuṁḍalinaṁ kaṁṭhabhūṣāvibhūṣitam maṁjumaṁjīramādhuryādatisauṁdarya vigraham

"crowned, wearing earrings, adorned with ornaments at his throat, his form of extreme beauty enhanced by the sweetness of lovely anklet-bells,"

Verse 47 (padma.5.70.47)

प्रियभृत्यगणाराध्यं यत्र संगीतकप्रियम् । पूर्णब्रह्मसदानंदं शुद्धसत्वस्वरूपकम्

priyabhṛtyagaṇārādhyaṁ yatra saṁgītakapriyam pūrṇabrahmasadānaṁdaṁ śuddhasatvasvarūpakam

"worshipped by his beloved attendants, fond of music there, ever blissful in the complete Brahman, of the very nature of pure goodness."

Verse 48 (padma.5.70.48)

तस्योर्द्ध्वे चांतरिक्षे च विष्णुं सर्वेश्वरेश्वरम् । अनादिमादिचिद्रूपं चिदानंदं परं विभुम्

tasyorddhve cāṁtarikṣe ca viṣṇuṁ sarveśvareśvaram anādimādicidrūpaṁ cidānaṁdaṁ paraṁ vibhum

"Above him, in the very sky, is Vishnu, lord of the lords of all, the beginningless-yet-beginning of consciousness, the pervading Lord of consciousness and bliss,"

Verse 49 (padma.5.70.49)

त्रिगुणातीतमव्यक्तं नित्यमक्षयमव्ययम् । समेघपुंजमाधुर्यसौंदर्यश्यामविग्रहम्

triguṇātītamavyaktaṁ nityamakṣayamavyayam sameghapuṁjamādhuryasauṁdaryaśyāmavigraham

"beyond the three gunas, unmanifest, eternal, imperishable, undecaying, his dark form of a sweetness and beauty like a mass of clouds,"

Verse 50 (padma.5.70.50)

नीलकुंचितसुस्निग्ध केशपाशातिसुंदरम् । अरविंददलस्निग्ध सुदीर्घचारुलोचनम्

nīlakuṁcitasusnigdha keśapāśātisuṁdaram araviṁdadalasnigdha sudīrghacārulocanam

"his dark-blue curling, glossy hair-locks utterly lovely, his long, beautiful eyes glossy as lotus petals,"

Verse 51 (padma.5.70.51)

किरीटकुंडलोद्गंड शुद्धसत्वात्मभिर्वृतम् । आत्मारामैश्च चिद्रूपैस्तन्मूर्तिध्यानतत्परैः

kirīṭakuṁḍalodgaṁḍa śuddhasatvātmabhirvṛtam ātmārāmaiśca cidrūpaistanmūrtidhyānatatparaiḥ

"his cheeks raised by his crown and earrings, surrounded by souls of pure goodness, self-realized souls of the very nature of consciousness, devoted to meditating upon his form,"

Verse 52 (padma.5.70.52)

हृदयारूढ तद्ध्य्नौर्नासाग्रन्यस्तलोचनैः । क्रियतेऽहैतुकीभक्तिः कायहृद्वृत्तिभाषितैः

hṛdayārūḍha taddhynaurnāsāgranyastalocanaiḥ kriyate'haitukībhaktiḥ kāyahṛdvṛttibhāṣitaiḥ

"meditating upon him enshrined in their hearts, their eyes fixed at the tip of their noses — they perform unmotivated devotion, expressed through body, mind, and speech."

Verse 53 (padma.5.70.53)

तत्सव्ये यक्षगंधर्वसिद्धविद्याधरादिभिः । सुकांतैरप्सरःसंघैर्नृत्यसंगीततत्परैः

tatsavye yakṣagaṁdharvasiddhavidyādharādibhiḥ sukāṁtairapsaraḥsaṁghairnṛtyasaṁgītatatparaiḥ

"To his left, by yakshas, gandharvas, siddhas, vidyadharas and the like, and by lovely hosts of apsarases devoted to dance and song,"

Verse 54 (padma.5.70.54)

तदंगभजनं कामं वांछद्भिः कृष्णलालसैः । तदग्रे वैष्णवैः सर्वैश्चांतरिक्षे सुखासने

tadaṁgabhajanaṁ kāmaṁ vāṁchadbhiḥ kṛṣṇalālasaiḥ tadagre vaiṣṇavaiḥ sarvaiścāṁtarikṣe sukhāsane

"who long to serve his limbs, yearning for Krishna. Before him, in the sky, seated in comfort, are all the Vaishnavas —"

Verse 55 (padma.5.70.55)

प्रह्लादनारदाद्यैश्च कुमारशुकवैष्णवैः । जनकाद्यैर्लसद्भावैर्हृद्बाह्य स्फूर्तितत्परैः

prahlādanāradādyaiśca kumāraśukavaiṣṇavaiḥ janakādyairlasadbhāvairhṛdbāhya sphūrtitatparaiḥ

"Prahlada, Narada and the others, the Kumaras with Shuka, the Vaishnavas, Janaka and others, with radiant feelings, devoted to expressing it within and without,"

Verse 56 (padma.5.70.56)

पुलकाकुलसर्वांगैः स्फुरत्प्रेमसमाकुलैः । रहस्यामृतसंसिक्तैरर्द्धयुग्माक्षरो मनुः

pulakākulasarvāṁgaiḥ sphuratpremasamākulaiḥ rahasyāmṛtasaṁsiktairarddhayugmākṣaro manuḥ

"every limb thrilled with rapture, overwhelmed with manifest love, drenched in the nectar of the mystery — they recite that mantra of the paired half-syllables."

Verse 57 (padma.5.70.57)

मंत्रचूडामणिः प्रोक्तः सर्वमंत्रैककारणम् । सर्वदेवस्य मंत्राणां कैशोरं मंत्रहेतुकम्

maṁtracūḍāmaṇiḥ proktaḥ sarvamaṁtraikakāraṇam sarvadevasya maṁtrāṇāṁ kaiśoraṁ maṁtrahetukam

"It is called the crest-jewel of mantras, the sole cause of all mantras; among all the mantras of the gods, the youthful mantra is the very cause of mantra-power."

Verse 58 (padma.5.70.58)

सर्वकैशोरमंत्राणां हेतुश्चूडामणिर्मनुः । जपं कुर्वंति मनसा पूर्णप्रेमसुखाश्रयाः

sarvakaiśoramaṁtrāṇāṁ hetuścūḍāmaṇirmanuḥ japaṁ kurvaṁti manasā pūrṇapremasukhāśrayāḥ

"Among all the youthful mantras, the crest-jewel is the cause — this mantra they recite mentally, being the abode of the fullness of the bliss of love,"

Verse 59 (padma.5.70.59)

वांछंति तत्पदांभोजे निश्चलं प्रेमसाधनम् । तद्बाह्ये स्फटिकाद्युच्च प्रावारे सुमनोहरे

vāṁchaṁti tatpadāṁbhoje niścalaṁ premasādhanam tadbāhye sphaṭikādyucca prāvāre sumanohare

"longing for unwavering devotion at his lotus feet as their sole means. Outside that, in a lovely high enclosure of crystal and the like,"

Verse 60 (padma.5.70.60)

कुंकुमैः सितरक्ताद्यैश्चतुर्दिक्षु समाकुलैः । शुक्लं चतुर्भुजं विष्णुं पश्चिमे द्वारपालकम्

kuṁkumaiḥ sitaraktādyaiścaturdikṣu samākulaiḥ śuklaṁ caturbhujaṁ viṣṇuṁ paścime dvārapālakam

"with saffron, white, red and other colors filling the four directions — in the west, the white four-armed Vishnu as door-keeper,"

Verse 61 (padma.5.70.61)

शंखचक्रगदापद्मकिरीटादि विभूषितम् । रक्तं चतुर्भुजं पद्मशंखचक्रगदायुधम्

śaṁkhacakragadāpadmakirīṭādi vibhūṣitam raktaṁ caturbhujaṁ padmaśaṁkhacakragadāyudham

"adorned with conch, discus, mace, lotus, crown and the like; the red four-armed one, bearing lotus, conch, discus, and mace as weapons,"

Verse 62 (padma.5.70.62)

किरीटकुंडलोद्दीप्त द्वारपालकमुत्तरे । गौरं चतुर्भुजं विष्णुं शुखचक्रगदायुधम्

kirīṭakuṁḍaloddīpta dvārapālakamuttare gauraṁ caturbhujaṁ viṣṇuṁ śukhacakragadāyudham

"blazing with crown and earrings, is the door-keeper in the north; the golden-hued four-armed Vishnu, bearing conch, discus, and mace as weapons,"

Verse 63 (padma.5.70.63)

किरीटकुंडलाद्यैश्च शोभितं वनमालिनम् । पूर्वद्वारे द्वारपालं गौरं विष्णुं प्रकीर्तितम्

kirīṭakuṁḍalādyaiśca śobhitaṁ vanamālinam pūrvadvāre dvārapālaṁ gauraṁ viṣṇuṁ prakīrtitam

"adorned with crown, earrings and the like, wearing a garland of forest flowers — at the eastern gate, the door-keeper declared is the golden-hued Vishnu."

Verse 64 (padma.5.70.64)

कृष्णवर्णं चतुर्बाहुं शंखचक्रादिभूषणम् । दक्षिणद्वारपालं तु श्रीविष्णुंकृष्णवर्णकम्

kṛṣṇavarṇaṁ caturbāhuṁ śaṁkhacakrādibhūṣaṇam dakṣiṇadvārapālaṁ tu śrīviṣṇuṁkṛṣṇavarṇakam

"The dark-hued, four-armed one, adorned with conch, discus and the rest, is the door-keeper of the south — Shri Vishnu, of dark hue."

Verse 65 (padma.5.70.65)

श्रीकृष्णचरितं ह्येतद्यः पठेत्प्रयतः शुचिः । शृणुयाद्वापि यो भक्त्या गोविंदे लभते रतिम्

śrīkṛṣṇacaritaṁ hyetadyaḥ paṭhetprayataḥ śuciḥ śṛṇuyādvāpi yo bhaktyā goviṁde labhate ratim

"Whoever reads this account of Shri Krishna's deeds, controlled and pure, or whoever hears it with devotion, attains loving devotion to Govinda."
