Description of Meditation upon the Lord
Verse 1 (padma.5.84.1)
ऋषय ऊचुः - सूतसूत महाभाग रोमहर्षणनंदन । कथा रम्या त्वया प्रोक्ता लोकस्यानंददायिनी
ṛṣaya ūcuḥ - sūtasūta mahābhāga romaharṣaṇanaṁdana kathā ramyā tvayā proktā lokasyānaṁdadāyinī
The sages said: "O Suta, Suta, greatly blessed son of Romaharshana! You have told a delightful tale, giving joy to the world."
Verse 2 (padma.5.84.2)
श्रीकृष्णस्य महाभाग चरितं महदद्भुतम् । श्रुतं सर्वं त्वया प्रोक्तं निर्वृतिस्तेन चाभवत्
śrīkṛṣṇasya mahābhāga caritaṁ mahadadbhutam śrutaṁ sarvaṁ tvayā proktaṁ nirvṛtistena cābhavat
"O greatly blessed one, the great and wondrous deeds of Shri Krishna — all that you have told has been heard, and satisfaction has come from it."
Verse 3 (padma.5.84.3)
अहो श्रीकृष्णमाहात्म्यं भक्तानां गतिदायकम् । यतस्तेन महाभाग निर्वृतिं को न चाप्नुयात्
aho śrīkṛṣṇamāhātmyaṁ bhaktānāṁ gatidāyakam yatastena mahābhāga nirvṛtiṁ ko na cāpnuyāt
"Ah, the glory of Shri Krishna gives the goal to devotees; through it, O greatly blessed one, who would not attain satisfaction?"
Verse 4 (padma.5.84.4)
अतः पुनरपि श्रीमत्कृष्णस्य चरितं महत् । श्रोतुमिच्छामहे चान्यद्व्रतदानार्हणादिकम्
ataḥ punarapi śrīmatkṛṣṇasya caritaṁ mahat śrotumicchāmahe cānyadvratadānārhaṇādikam
"Therefore we wish to hear again the great deeds of glorious Krishna, and also other things — vows, gifts, worship and the like,"
Verse 5 (padma.5.84.5)
स्नानं वापि महाभाग यथा येन कृतं पुरा । तत्सर्वं विस्तराद्ब्रूहि यथा नो निर्वृतिर्भवेत्
snānaṁ vāpi mahābhāga yathā yena kṛtaṁ purā tatsarvaṁ vistarādbrūhi yathā no nirvṛtirbhavet
"and bathing too, O greatly blessed one, as it was performed by whom formerly — tell us all of that in detail, so that our satisfaction may come."
Verse 6 (padma.5.84.6)
सूत उवाच- साधु पृष्टं द्विजश्रेष्ठा लोकानां तारणं परम् । यूयं कृतार्थाः कृष्णस्य भक्त्या संपूर्णमानसाः
sūta uvāca- sādhu pṛṣṭaṁ dvijaśreṣṭhā lokānāṁ tāraṇaṁ param yūyaṁ kṛtārthāḥ kṛṣṇasya bhaktyā saṁpūrṇamānasāḥ
Suta said: "Well have you asked, O foremost of the twice-born, the supreme means of crossing over for the worlds; you are fulfilled, your minds filled through devotion to Krishna."
Verse 7 (padma.5.84.7)
श्रीकृष्णचरितं पुण्यं साधूनां हर्षदं परम् । प्रवक्ष्यामि द्विजश्रेष्ठा महदाख्यानमुत्तमम्
śrīkṛṣṇacaritaṁ puṇyaṁ sādhūnāṁ harṣadaṁ param pravakṣyāmi dvijaśreṣṭhā mahadākhyānamuttamam
"The sacred deeds of Shri Krishna, the supreme joy of the virtuous — I shall tell, O foremost brahmins, this great and excellent narrative."
Verse 8 (padma.5.84.8)
एकदा नारदो लोकान्पर्यटन्भगवत्प्रियः । मथुरायामंबरीषं कृष्णाराधनतत्परम्
ekadā nārado lokānparyaṭanbhagavatpriyaḥ mathurāyāmaṁbarīṣaṁ kṛṣṇārādhanatatparam
"Once, Narada, dear to the Lord, wandering through the worlds, in Mathura, saw Ambarisha, devoted to the worship of Krishna,"
Verse 9 (padma.5.84.9)
महाभागं व्रतपरं ददर्श मुनिसत्तमः । स आगतं मुनिवरं सत्कृत्य मुनिसत्तमः
mahābhāgaṁ vrataparaṁ dadarśa munisattamaḥ sa āgataṁ munivaraṁ satkṛtya munisattamaḥ
"greatly blessed, devoted to vows — that foremost sage beheld him. He, having duly honored the arrived sage,"
Verse 10 (padma.5.84.10)
भवंत इव पप्रच्छ श्रद्धया हृष्टमानसः । अंबरीष उवाच-। यन्मुने परमं ब्रह्म वेदवादिभिरुच्यते
bhavaṁta iva papraccha śraddhayā hṛṣṭamānasaḥ aṁbarīṣa uvāca- yanmune paramaṁ brahma vedavādibhirucyate
"asked him as if he himself were one of you, joyful in mind through faith. Ambarisha said: 'O sage, that supreme Brahman which the reciters of the Vedas declare —'"
Verse 11 (padma.5.84.11)
स देवः पुंडरीकाक्षः स्वयं नारायणः परः । योऽमूर्तो मूर्तिमानीशो व्यक्तोऽव्यक्तः सनातनः
sa devaḥ puṁḍarīkākṣaḥ svayaṁ nārāyaṇaḥ paraḥ yo'mūrto mūrtimānīśo vyakto'vyaktaḥ sanātanaḥ
"'that god, lotus-eyed, himself the supreme Narayana, who, though formless, is possessed of form; the Lord, manifest, unmanifest, eternal,'"
Verse 12 (padma.5.84.12)
सर्वभूतमयोऽचिंत्यो ध्यातव्यः स कथं हरिः । यस्मिन्सर्वमिदं विश्वमोतं प्रोतं प्रतिष्ठितम्
sarvabhūtamayo'ciṁtyo dhyātavyaḥ sa kathaṁ hariḥ yasminsarvamidaṁ viśvamotaṁ protaṁ pratiṣṭhitam
"'of the very essence of all beings, inconceivable — how is that Hari to be meditated upon? He in whom this entire universe is woven, warp and weft, and established,'"
Verse 13 (padma.5.84.13)
अव्यक्तमेकं परमं परमात्मेति विश्रुतम् । यतो जन्मादि जगतो यो निर्माय स्वयं भुवम्
avyaktamekaṁ paramaṁ paramātmeti viśrutam yato janmādi jagato yo nirmāya svayaṁ bhuvam
"'unmanifest, one, supreme, renowned as the Supreme Self — from whom the birth and the rest of the world come, who, having himself created the earth,'"
Verse 14 (padma.5.84.14)
ददौ तस्मै च निगमानात्मन्येव व्यवस्थितान् । कथमाराध्यते सोऽयं समग्रपुरुषार्थदः
dadau tasmai ca nigamānātmanyeva vyavasthitān kathamārādhyate so'yaṁ samagrapuruṣārthadaḥ
"'gave to it the Vedas, established within the Self alone — how is he worshipped, he who bestows the entire fourfold aim of human life,'"
Verse 15 (padma.5.84.15)
योगिनामपि दुर्गम्यस्तदेतत्कृपया वद । अनाराधित गोविंदा न विदंति हितोदयम्
yogināmapi durgamyastadetatkṛpayā vada anārādhita goviṁdā na vidaṁti hitodayam
"'hard to reach even for yogis — that tell me, out of grace. Those who have not worshipped Govinda do not know the rise of their own welfare.'"
Verse 16 (padma.5.84.16)
न तपो यज्ञदानानां लभते फलमुत्तमम् । अनास्वादितगोविंदपदांबुजरसश्च यः
na tapo yajñadānānāṁ labhate phalamuttamam anāsvāditagoviṁdapadāṁbujarasaśca yaḥ
"'Austerity, sacrifice, and gifts do not obtain their supreme fruit; and he who has not tasted the sweetness of Govinda's lotus feet'"
Verse 17 (padma.5.84.17)
मनोरथपथातीतं स्फीतं नाकलयेत्फलम् । हरेराराधनं हित्वा दुरितौघ निवारणम्
manorathapathātītaṁ sphītaṁ nākalayetphalam harerārādhanaṁ hitvā duritaugha nivāraṇam
"'cannot conceive of a fruit vast beyond the reach of the mind's very desire. Apart from the worship of Hari, which removes the mass of sin,'"
Verse 18 (padma.5.84.18)
नान्यत्पश्यामि जंतूनां प्रायश्चित्तं परं मुने । यद्भ्रूनर्तनवर्तिन्यः श्रूयंते सिद्धयोऽखिलाः
nānyatpaśyāmi jaṁtūnāṁ prāyaścittaṁ paraṁ mune yadbhrūnartanavartinyaḥ śrūyaṁte siddhayo'khilāḥ
"'I see no other supreme atonement for creatures, O sage — by which all perfections are said to dance obedient at one's very brow.'"
Verse 19 (padma.5.84.19)
कथमाराध्यतेसोऽयं केशवः क्लेशनाशनः । उपास्यते स भगवान्कथं नारायणो नरैः
kathamārādhyateso'yaṁ keśavaḥ kleśanāśanaḥ upāsyate sa bhagavānkathaṁ nārāyaṇo naraiḥ
"'How is that Keshava, destroyer of afflictions, worshipped? How is that blessed Narayana adored by men?'"
Verse 20 (padma.5.84.20)
प्रीतश्च सर्वमेतन्मे हिताय जगतो वद । भक्तिप्रियोऽसौ भगवान्कया भक्त्या प्रसीदति
prītaśca sarvametanme hitāya jagato vada bhaktipriyo'sau bhagavānkayā bhaktyā prasīdati
"'Being pleased, tell me all this for the world's benefit. That Lord, fond of devotion — by what devotion is he pleased?'"
Verse 21 (padma.5.84.21)
कथं तस्मिन्भवेद्भक्तिः सर्वैराराध्यते कथम् । वैष्णवोसि हरेस्तस्य प्रियोऽसि परमार्थवित्
kathaṁ tasminbhavedbhaktiḥ sarvairārādhyate katham vaiṣṇavosi harestasya priyo'si paramārthavit
"'How does devotion to him arise? How is he worshipped by all? You are a Vaishnava, dear to that Hari, a knower of the supreme truth;'"
Verse 22 (padma.5.84.22)
तेन त्वामेव पृच्छामि ब्रह्मन्ब्रह्मविदुत्तम । श्रोतारमथ वक्तारं प्रष्टारं पुरुषं हरेः
tena tvāmeva pṛcchāmi brahmanbrahmaviduttama śrotāramatha vaktāraṁ praṣṭāraṁ puruṣaṁ hareḥ
"'therefore I ask you alone, O brahmin, best of knowers of Brahman — the hearer, the speaker, and the questioner all become the very person of Hari;'"
Verse 23 (padma.5.84.23)
प्रश्नः पुनाति कृष्णस्य तदंघ्रिसलिलं यथा । दुर्ल्लभो मानुषो देहो देहिनां क्षणभंगुरः
praśnaḥ punāti kṛṣṇasya tadaṁghrisalilaṁ yathā durllabho mānuṣo deho dehināṁ kṣaṇabhaṁguraḥ
"'a question purifies, just as Krishna's own foot-water does. The human body is hard to obtain for embodied beings, fleeting as an instant;'"
Verse 24 (padma.5.84.24)
तत्रापि दुर्ल्लभं मन्ये वैकुंठप्रियदर्शनम् । संसारेस्मिन्क्षणार्धोऽपि सत्संगः शेवधिर्नृणाम्
tatrāpi durllabhaṁ manye vaikuṁṭhapriyadarśanam saṁsāresminkṣaṇārdho'pi satsaṁgaḥ śevadhirnṛṇām
"'and even harder than that, I think, is the sight of one dear to Vaikuntha. In this worldly existence, even half an instant of the company of the good is the very treasure of men,'"
Verse 25 (padma.5.84.25)
यस्मादवाप्यते सर्वं पुरुषार्थचतुष्टयम् । भगवन्भवतो यात्रा स्वस्तये सर्वदेहिनाम्
yasmādavāpyate sarvaṁ puruṣārthacatuṣṭayam bhagavanbhavato yātrā svastaye sarvadehinām
"'from which the fourfold aim of human life is entirely obtained. O Lord, your very visit is for the welfare of all embodied beings.'"
Verse 26 (padma.5.84.26)
बालानां तु यथा पित्रोरुत्तमश्लोकवर्त्मनाम् । भूतानां देवचरितं दुःखाय च सुखाय च
bālānāṁ tu yathā pitroruttamaślokavartmanām bhūtānāṁ devacaritaṁ duḥkhāya ca sukhāya ca
"'As the ways of good parents are for children, so is the conduct of the gods both for the sorrow and the joy of beings —'"
Verse 27 (padma.5.84.27)
सुखायैव हि साधूनां त्वादृशामच्युतात्मनाम् । भजंति ये यथा देवान्देवा अपि तथैव तान्
sukhāyaiva hi sādhūnāṁ tvādṛśāmacyutātmanām bhajaṁti ye yathā devāndevā api tathaiva tān
"'indeed for the very joy of the righteous, of those like you, of unfallen soul; those who worship the gods as they truly are, the gods too treat them in just the same way,'"
Verse 28 (padma.5.84.28)
छायेव कर्मसचिवाः साधवो दीनवत्सलाः । तस्मात्त्वं भगवन्मह्यं वैष्णवं धर्ममादिश
chāyeva karmasacivāḥ sādhavo dīnavatsalāḥ tasmāttvaṁ bhagavanmahyaṁ vaiṣṇavaṁ dharmamādiśa
"'the righteous, kind to the humble, are like a shadow accompanying deeds. Therefore, O Lord, teach me the Vaishnava dharma,'"
Verse 29 (padma.5.84.29)
यस्योपदेशदानेन लभते वेदजं फलम् । नारद उवाच- साधु पृष्टं महीपाल विष्णुभक्तिमता त्वया
yasyopadeśadānena labhate vedajaṁ phalam nārada uvāca- sādhu pṛṣṭaṁ mahīpāla viṣṇubhaktimatā tvayā
"'by whose very imparting one obtains the fruit born of the Vedas.'" Narada said: "Well have you asked, O king, endowed with devotion to Vishnu,"
Verse 30 (padma.5.84.30)
जानता परमं धर्ममेकं माधवसेवनम् । यस्मिन्नाराधिते विष्णौ विश्वमाराधितं भवेत्
jānatā paramaṁ dharmamekaṁ mādhavasevanam yasminnārādhite viṣṇau viśvamārādhitaṁ bhavet
"knowing the supreme dharma to be the one service of Madhava — in worshipping which Vishnu, the whole universe is worshipped."
Verse 31 (padma.5.84.31)
तुष्टे चराचरं तुष्टं सर्वदेवमये हरौ । यस्य स्मरणमात्रेण महापातकसंहतिः
tuṣṭe carācaraṁ tuṣṭaṁ sarvadevamaye harau yasya smaraṇamātreṇa mahāpātakasaṁhatiḥ
"When Hari, of the essence of all the gods, is pleased, the whole moving and unmoving world is pleased. By the mere remembrance of whom, the mass of great sins"
Verse 32 (padma.5.84.32)
तत्क्षणान्नाशमायाति स सेव्यो हरिरेव हि । कोऽनु राजन्निंद्रियवान्मुकुंदचरणांबुजम्
tatkṣaṇānnāśamāyāti sa sevyo harireva hi ko'nu rājanniṁdriyavānmukuṁdacaraṇāṁbujam
"vanishes that very instant — he, Hari, alone, is to be served. Who indeed, O king, possessed of senses, would not worship Mukunda's lotus feet,"
Verse 33 (padma.5.84.33)
न भजेत्सर्वतो मृत्युरुपास्यमृषिदैवतैः । श्रुतोऽनु पठितो ध्यात आदृतश्चानुमोदितः
na bhajetsarvato mṛtyurupāsyamṛṣidaivataiḥ śruto'nu paṭhito dhyāta ādṛtaścānumoditaḥ
"worshipped by all as death itself, adored even by sages and gods? Heard, then read, meditated upon, honored and approved,"
Verse 34 (padma.5.84.34)
सद्यः पुनाति सद्धर्मो वीरो विश्वद्रुहोऽपि हि । योयं कारणकार्यादि कारणस्यापि कारणम्
sadyaḥ punāti saddharmo vīro viśvadruho'pi hi yoyaṁ kāraṇakāryādi kāraṇasyāpi kāraṇam
"at once purifies, that true dharma — even for a hero who has wronged the whole world. He who is the very cause of cause and effect, the very cause even of causation,"
Verse 35 (padma.5.84.35)
अनन्यकारणं योगी जगज्जीवो जगन्मयः । अणुर्बृहत्कृशः स्थूलो निर्गुणो गुणभृन्महान्
ananyakāraṇaṁ yogī jagajjīvo jaganmayaḥ aṇurbṛhatkṛśaḥ sthūlo nirguṇo guṇabhṛnmahān
"having no other cause, the yogi, the life of the world, of the essence of the world, minute, vast, thin, gross, without qualities, bearing qualities, great,"
Verse 36 (padma.5.84.36)
अजो जन्मलयातीतो ध्यातव्यः स हरिः सदा । सम्यगेतद्व्यवसितं भवता पुरुषर्षभ
ajo janmalayātīto dhyātavyaḥ sa hariḥ sadā samyagetadvyavasitaṁ bhavatā puruṣarṣabha
"unborn, beyond birth and dissolution — he, Hari, is ever to be meditated upon. Well have you resolved this, O bull among men,"
Verse 37 (padma.5.84.37)
यत्पृच्छसे भागवतान्धर्मांस्त्वं विश्वभावनान् । प्रसंगेन सतामात्ममनः श्रुति रसायनाः
yatpṛcchase bhāgavatāndharmāṁstvaṁ viśvabhāvanān prasaṁgena satāmātmamanaḥ śruti rasāyanāḥ
"in that you ask of the Bhagavata duties that nurture the whole universe; through such discourse, the pure stories of Krishna, worthy of praise,"
Verse 38 (padma.5.84.38)
भवंति कीर्तनीयस्य कथाः कृष्णस्य निर्मलाः । भावसाध्योह्ययं देवः स्वयं जानाति तद्भवान्
bhavaṁti kīrtanīyasya kathāḥ kṛṣṇasya nirmalāḥ bhāvasādhyohyayaṁ devaḥ svayaṁ jānāti tadbhavān
"become an elixir for the mind and ears of the good. This god is to be attained by feeling alone; you yourself, in truth, know this."
Verse 39 (padma.5.84.39)
तथापि वक्ष्ये जगतो हिताय तव गौरवात् । यदाहुः परमं ब्रह्म प्रधानपुरुषात्परम्
tathāpi vakṣye jagato hitāya tava gauravāt yadāhuḥ paramaṁ brahma pradhānapuruṣātparam
"Nevertheless, for the world's benefit, I shall speak, out of regard for you, of what they call the supreme Brahman, beyond even the primal Purusha —"
Verse 40 (padma.5.84.40)
यन्मायया ततं सर्वं सर्वं यच्छति सोऽच्युतः । पुत्रान्कलत्रं दीर्घायू राज्यं स्वर्गापवर्गकम्
yanmāyayā tataṁ sarvaṁ sarvaṁ yacchati so'cyutaḥ putrānkalatraṁ dīrghāyū rājyaṁ svargāpavargakam
"by whose maya all this is pervaded, and who, unfallen, grants all; sons, a wife, long life, kingdom, heaven and liberation —"
Verse 41 (padma.5.84.41)
स दद्यादीप्सितं सर्वं भक्त्या संपूजितोऽजितः । कर्मणा मनसा वाचा तत्परा ये हि मानवाः
sa dadyādīpsitaṁ sarvaṁ bhaktyā saṁpūjito'jitaḥ karmaṇā manasā vācā tatparā ye hi mānavāḥ
"the unconquered one gives whatever is desired, when worshipped with devotion. For those men who are devoted in deed, mind, and word,"
Verse 42 (padma.5.84.42)
तेषां व्रतानि वक्ष्यामि प्रीतये भूपसत्तम । अहिंसासत्यमस्तेयं ब्रह्मचर्यमकल्पता
teṣāṁ vratāni vakṣyāmi prītaye bhūpasattama ahiṁsāsatyamasteyaṁ brahmacaryamakalpatā
"for their pleasure, O best of kings, I shall now tell their vows: non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, celibacy, and freedom from artifice —"
Verse 43 (padma.5.84.43)
एतानि मानसान्याहुर्व्रतानि हरितुष्टये । एकभक्तं तथा नक्तमुपवासमयाचितम्
etāni mānasānyāhurvratāni harituṣṭaye ekabhaktaṁ tathā naktamupavāsamayācitam
"these are called the mental vows, for the satisfaction of Hari. Likewise, eating only once, or only at night, or unsolicited fasting —"
Verse 44 (padma.5.84.44)
इत्येवं कायिकं पुंसां व्रतमुक्तं नरेश्वर । वेदस्याध्ययनं विष्णोः कीर्तनं सत्यभाषणम्
ityevaṁ kāyikaṁ puṁsāṁ vratamuktaṁ nareśvara vedasyādhyayanaṁ viṣṇoḥ kīrtanaṁ satyabhāṣaṇam
"thus is the bodily vow of men declared, O lord of men. Study of the Veda, chanting of Vishnu's name, truthful speech,"
Verse 45 (padma.5.84.45)
अपैशुन्यमिदं राजन्वाचिकं व्रतमुत्तमम् । चक्रायुधस्य नामानि सदा सर्वत्र कीर्तयेत्
apaiśunyamidaṁ rājanvācikaṁ vratamuttamam cakrāyudhasya nāmāni sadā sarvatra kīrtayet
"and freedom from slander — this, O king, is the supreme verbal vow. One should ever, everywhere, chant the names of the wielder of the discus."
Verse 46 (padma.5.84.46)
नाशौचं कीर्तने तस्य स पवित्रकरो यतः । वर्णाश्रमाचारवता पुरुषेण परः पुमान्
nāśaucaṁ kīrtane tasya sa pavitrakaro yataḥ varṇāśramācāravatā puruṣeṇa paraḥ pumān
"There is no impurity in chanting his name, for it is itself the very purifier. By a man observing the conduct proper to his varna and ashrama,"
Verse 47 (padma.5.84.47)
विष्णुराराध्यते पंथा नान्यः संतोषकारणम् । पतिप्रियहिताभिश्च मनोवाक्कायसंयमैः
viṣṇurārādhyate paṁthā nānyaḥ saṁtoṣakāraṇam patipriyahitābhiśca manovākkāyasaṁyamaiḥ
"Vishnu is worshipped — there is no other path, no other cause of contentment. By devotion to their husband's welfare and pleasure, and by restraint of mind, speech, and body,"
Verse 48 (padma.5.84.48)
व्रतैराराध्यते स्त्रीभिर्वासुदेवो दयानिधिः । आगमोक्तेन मार्गेण स्त्रीशूद्रैरपिपूजनम्
vratairārādhyate strībhirvāsudevo dayānidhiḥ āgamoktena mārgeṇa strīśūdrairapipūjanam
"Vasudeva, treasury of compassion, is worshipped by women through their vows. By the path declared in the scriptures, worship even by women and shudras"
Verse 49 (padma.5.84.49)
कर्तव्यं कृष्णचंद्रस्य द्विजातिवररूपिणः । त्रयोवर्णास्तु वेदोक्तमार्गाराधनतत्पराः
kartavyaṁ kṛṣṇacaṁdrasya dvijātivararūpiṇaḥ trayovarṇāstu vedoktamārgārādhanatatparāḥ
"should be performed, of Krishnachandra, in the form of the best of the twice-born. The three higher varnas are devoted to worship by the path declared in the Vedas;"
Verse 50 (padma.5.84.50)
स्त्रीशूद्रादय एव स्युर्नाम्नाऽराधनतत्पराः । न पूजनैर्न यजनैर्न व्रतैरपि माधवः
strīśūdrādaya eva syurnāmnā'rādhanatatparāḥ na pūjanairna yajanairna vratairapi mādhavaḥ
"women, shudras and others are devoted to worship by the mere repetition of the Name. Not by worship-rites, nor by sacrifices, nor even by vows"
Verse 51 (padma.5.84.51)
तुष्यते केवलं भक्तिप्रियोऽसौ समुदाहृतः । स्त्रीणां पतिव्रतानां तु पतिरेव हि दैवतम्
tuṣyate kevalaṁ bhaktipriyo'sau samudāhṛtaḥ strīṇāṁ pativratānāṁ tu patireva hi daivatam
"is Madhava pleased — he alone, fond of devotion, is thus declared. For chaste wives, their husband alone is truly their deity;"

स तु पूज्यो विष्णुभक्त्या मनोवाक्कायकर्मभिः । कर्तव्यं श्रद्धया विष्णोश्चिंतयित्वा पतिं हृदि
sa tu pūjyo viṣṇubhaktyā manovākkāyakarmabhiḥ kartavyaṁ śraddhayā viṣṇościṁtayitvā patiṁ hṛdi
"he alone is to be worshipped, through devotion to Vishnu, by deed of mind, speech, and body. One should perform, with faith, whatever duty is prescribed, having contemplated Vishnu in one's husband, in one's heart."
Verse 53 (padma.5.84.53)
शूद्राणां चैव भवति नाम्ना वै देवतार्चनम् । सर्वेऽप्यागममार्गेण कुर्युर्वेदानुकारिणा
śūdrāṇāṁ caiva bhavati nāmnā vai devatārcanam sarve'pyāgamamārgeṇa kuryurvedānukāriṇā
"For shudras too, worship of the deity by the Name alone is enjoined. All should perform worship by the path of the Agamas, which follows the Vedas."

स्त्रीणामप्यधिकारोऽस्ति विष्णोराराधनादिषु । पतिप्रियरतानां च श्रुतिरेषा सनातनी
strīṇāmapyadhikāro'sti viṣṇorārādhanādiṣu patipriyaratānāṁ ca śrutireṣā sanātanī
"Women too have entitlement to the worship of Vishnu and the rest; devoted to their husband's pleasure — this is the eternal teaching of the Shrutis."
Verse 55 (padma.5.84.55)
स्वकुलोचितधर्मेण यद्यस्य विहितं व्रतम् । तत्तदेवाचरेद्यस्तु तेन तुष्यति केशवः
svakulocitadharmeṇa yadyasya vihitaṁ vratam tattadevācaredyastu tena tuṣyati keśavaḥ
"By whatever vow is prescribed for whom, according to the dharma proper to his own family — that very one should he practice; by that Keshava is pleased."
Verse 56 (padma.5.84.56)
हविषाग्नौ जले पुष्पैर्ध्यानेन हृदये हरिम् । यजंति सूरयो नित्यं जपेन रविमंडले
haviṣāgnau jale puṣpairdhyānena hṛdaye harim yajaṁti sūrayo nityaṁ japena ravimaṁḍale
"With oblation in fire, with water, with flowers, with meditation in the heart — the wise ever worship Hari, in the solar orb, with recitation."
Verse 57 (padma.5.84.57)
अहिंसा प्रथमं पुष्पं द्वितीयं करणग्रहः । तृतीयकं भूतदया चतुर्थं क्षांतिरेव च
ahiṁsā prathamaṁ puṣpaṁ dvitīyaṁ karaṇagrahaḥ tṛtīyakaṁ bhūtadayā caturthaṁ kṣāṁtireva ca
"Non-violence is the first flower; the second, control of the senses; the third, compassion for beings; and the fourth, forgiveness itself;"

शमस्तु पंचमं पुष्पं दमः षष्ठं च सप्तमम् । ध्यानं सत्यं चाष्टमं च ह्येतैस्तुष्यति केशवः
śamastu paṁcamaṁ puṣpaṁ damaḥ ṣaṣṭhaṁ ca saptamam dhyānaṁ satyaṁ cāṣṭamaṁ ca hyetaistuṣyati keśavaḥ
"tranquility is the fifth flower; self-restraint the sixth, and the seventh; meditation and truth the eighth — with these Keshava is pleased."

एतैरेवाष्टभिः पुष्पैस्तुष्यत्येवार्चितो हरिः । पुष्पांतराणि संत्येव बाह्यानि मनुजोत्तम
etairevāṣṭabhiḥ puṣpaistuṣyatyevārcito hariḥ puṣpāṁtarāṇi saṁtyeva bāhyāni manujottama
"By these very eight flowers alone, when worshipped, Hari is indeed pleased. There are other flowers too, external ones, O best of men,"

भक्त्या कृतानि यैर्विष्णुः पूजितः परितुष्यति । वारुणं सलिलं पुष्पं सौम्यं घृतपयोदधि
bhaktyā kṛtāni yairviṣṇuḥ pūjitaḥ parituṣyati vāruṇaṁ salilaṁ puṣpaṁ saumyaṁ ghṛtapayodadhi
"performed with devotion, by which Vishnu, worshipped, is content: water is the flower sacred to Varuna; ghee, milk, and yogurt sacred to the Moon,"

प्राजापत्यं तथान्नादि आग्नेयं धूपदीपकम् । फलपुष्पादिकं चैव वानस्पत्यं तु पंचमम्
prājāpatyaṁ tathānnādi āgneyaṁ dhūpadīpakam phalapuṣpādikaṁ caiva vānaspatyaṁ tu paṁcamam
"food and the like sacred to Prajapati; incense and lamps sacred to Agni; fruits, flowers and the like, the fifth, sacred to the forest-lord,"

पार्थिवं कुशमूलाद्यं वायव्यं गंधचंदनम् । श्रद्धाख्यं विष्णुपुष्पं च वाद्यं विष्णुपदं स्मृतम्
pārthivaṁ kuśamūlādyaṁ vāyavyaṁ gaṁdhacaṁdanam śraddhākhyaṁ viṣṇupuṣpaṁ ca vādyaṁ viṣṇupadaṁ smṛtam
"kusha grass, roots and the like sacred to the Earth; fragrance and sandal sacred to the Wind; the flower named 'Shraddha' belongs to Vishnu, and the 'sound' is remembered as Vishnu's own foot."

एभिस्तुपूजितः पुष्पैरपि विष्णुः प्रसीदति । सूर्योऽग्निर्ब्राह्मणोगावो वैष्णवः खं मरुज्जलम्
ebhistupūjitaḥ puṣpairapi viṣṇuḥ prasīdati sūryo'gnirbrāhmaṇogāvo vaiṣṇavaḥ khaṁ marujjalam
"Worshipped with these flowers too, Vishnu is pleased. The sun, fire, a brahmin, cows, a Vaishnava, the sky, the wind, water,"
Verse 64 (padma.5.84.64)
भूरात्मा सर्वभूतानि पूजास्थानानि वा हरेः । सूर्य्ये तु मंत्रजाप्येन हविषाग्नौ यजेत्ततः
bhūrātmā sarvabhūtāni pūjāsthānāni vā hareḥ sūryye tu maṁtrajāpyena haviṣāgnau yajettataḥ
"the earth, the Self, and all beings — these are the very places of worship of Hari. To the sun, one should worship with the recitation of mantra; to fire, then, with oblation,"

आतिथ्येन तु विप्राग्र्ये गोषु ग्रासरसादिना । वैष्णवे बंधुसत्कृत्या हृदये ध्याननिष्ठया
ātithyena tu viprāgrye goṣu grāsarasādinā vaiṣṇave baṁdhusatkṛtyā hṛdaye dhyānaniṣṭhayā
"to the foremost brahmin, with hospitality; to cows, with grass and fodder and the like; to a Vaishnava, with the honor due to kin; in the heart, with steadfast meditation;"

वायौ मुख्यधिया तोये द्रव्यैस्तोयपुरस्कृतैः । स्थंडिले मंत्रहृदयैर्भोगैरात्मानमात्मनि
vāyau mukhyadhiyā toye dravyaistoyapuraskṛtaiḥ sthaṁḍile maṁtrahṛdayairbhogairātmānamātmani
"to the wind, with the primary intention; to water, with substances offered along with water; on the sacred ground, with the heart-mantras and enjoyments; to the Self within the Self,"

क्षेत्रज्ञं सर्वभूतेषु समत्वेनार्चयेद्विभुम् । धिष्ण्येष्वेतेषु तद्रूपं शंखचक्रगदांबुजैः
kṣetrajñaṁ sarvabhūteṣu samatvenārcayedvibhum dhiṣṇyeṣveteṣu tadrūpaṁ śaṁkhacakragadāṁbujaiḥ
"one should worship the all-pervading Lord, the Knower of the field, present equally in all beings. In these various places of worship, one should worship his form,"

युक्तं चतुर्भुजं शांतं ध्यायन्नर्च्चेत्समाहितः । ब्राह्मणैः पूजितैरेव पूजितोऽयं न संशयः
yuktaṁ caturbhujaṁ śāṁtaṁ dhyāyannarccetsamāhitaḥ brāhmaṇaiḥ pūjitaireva pūjito'yaṁ na saṁśayaḥ
"endowed with conch, discus, mace, and lotus, four-armed, tranquil, meditating with full concentration. By worshipping duly honored brahmins alone, this Lord is truly worshipped, without doubt;"
Verse 69 (padma.5.84.69)
निर्भर्त्सितैश्च तैर्भूप भवेन्निर्भर्त्सितो विभुः । निगमो धर्मशास्त्रं च यदाधारे प्रवर्तते
nirbhartsitaiśca tairbhūpa bhavennirbhartsito vibhuḥ nigamo dharmaśāstraṁ ca yadādhāre pravartate
"and by brahmins scorned, O king, the all-pervading Lord becomes scorned. The scripture and the Vedas and the dharma-shastras, on whose foundation they proceed —"
Verse 70 (padma.5.84.70)
विप्रास्ते वैष्णवीमूर्तिः पावनी परमा मता
viprāste vaiṣṇavīmūrtiḥ pāvanī paramā matā
"those brahmins are held to be the supreme, purifying embodiment of Vishnu himself."
Verse 71 (padma.5.84.71)
सर्वं शुभं जगति धर्मत एव लभ्यं धर्मो गतिर्निगमतो नृपधर्मशास्त्रात् । नूनं तयोरपि गतिर्भुवि भूमिदेवास्तैरर्चितैरिह जगत्पतिरर्चितः स्यात्
sarvaṁ śubhaṁ jagati dharmata eva labhyaṁ dharmo gatirnigamato nṛpadharmaśāstrāt nūnaṁ tayorapi gatirbhuvi bhūmidevāstairarcitairiha jagatpatirarcitaḥ syāt
All good in the world is obtained only through dharma; dharma proceeds from the scripture and from the royal dharma-shastras. Surely their own basis, too, lies with the earth's gods — by them, when worshipped here, the Lord of the world is thereby worshipped.
Verse 72 (padma.5.84.72)
न यज्ञयोगैर्न तपोभिरन्यैर्न योगयुक्त्या न समर्चनेन । तथा विभुस्तुष्यति देवदेवो यथा मही दैवततोषणेन
na yajñayogairna tapobhiranyairna yogayuktyā na samarcanena tathā vibhustuṣyati devadevo yathā mahī daivatatoṣaṇena
Not by sacrifices and yoga-rites, not by other austerities, not by the discipline of yoga, not by ritual worship alone, does the all-pervading Lord of gods become pleased, as much as the earth herself is pleased by the satisfaction of the gods.
Verse 73 (padma.5.84.73)
ब्रह्मण्यो ब्रह्मविद्ब्रह्मा ब्रह्मवेदप्रवर्तकः । ब्राह्मणैरेव तुष्येत तोषितं ब्रह्मदैवतम्
brahmaṇyo brahmavidbrahmā brahmavedapravartakaḥ brāhmaṇaireva tuṣyeta toṣitaṁ brahmadaivatam
Friend of Brahman, knower of Brahman, himself Brahman, the very propounder of the Brahman-Veda — he is pleased only by brahmins; when brahmins are satisfied, the very deity of Brahman is satisfied.
Verse 74 (padma.5.84.74)
नरकेऽपि चिरं मग्नाः पूर्वजा ये कुलद्वये । तदैव यांति ते स्वर्गं यदार्च्चति सुतो हरिम्
narake'pi ciraṁ magnāḥ pūrvajā ye kuladvaye tadaiva yāṁti te svargaṁ yadārccati suto harim
Even ancestors long sunk in hell, in both family lines, attain heaven that very moment when their son worships Hari.
Verse 75 (padma.5.84.75)
किं तेषां जीवितेनेह पशुवच्चेष्टितेन किम् । येषां न प्रवणं चित्तं वासुदेवे जगन्मये
kiṁ teṣāṁ jīviteneha paśuvacceṣṭitena kim yeṣāṁ na pravaṇaṁ cittaṁ vāsudeve jaganmaye
What use is there in this world of the life, or of activity like that of cattle, for those whose minds are not inclined toward Vasudeva, the essence of the universe?
Verse 76 (padma.5.84.76)
ध्यानं तस्य प्रवक्ष्यामि यन्न दृष्टं तु केनचित् । श्रूयतां भूपकैवल्यं केवलं मलवर्जितम्
dhyānaṁ tasya pravakṣyāmi yanna dṛṣṭaṁ tu kenacit śrūyatāṁ bhūpakaivalyaṁ kevalaṁ malavarjitam
"I shall now tell his meditation, which has never been seen by anyone — hear, O king, of the state of pure kaivalya, utterly free of taint."
Verse 77 (padma.5.84.77)
यथा दीपो निवातस्थो निश्चलो वायुवर्जितः । प्रज्वलन्नाशयेत्सर्वमंधकारं महामते
yathā dīpo nivātastho niścalo vāyuvarjitaḥ prajvalannāśayetsarvamaṁdhakāraṁ mahāmate
"Just as a lamp, standing in a windless place, unwavering, free from wind, blazing, dispels all darkness, O great-minded one,"
Verse 78 (padma.5.84.78)
तद्वद्दोषविहीनात्मा भवत्येव निरामयः । निराशो निश्चलो वीरोनमित्रं न रिपुस्तथा
tadvaddoṣavihīnātmā bhavatyeva nirāmayaḥ nirāśo niścalo vīronamitraṁ na ripustathā
"so too the soul free of faults becomes entirely untroubled — free of hope, unwavering, heroic, without friend or enemy alike,"
Verse 79 (padma.5.84.79)
शोकहर्षौ विषादश्च न लोभो मत्सरो भ्रमः । संभ्रमालापमोहैश्च सुखदुःखैर्विमुच्यते
śokaharṣau viṣādaśca na lobho matsaro bhramaḥ saṁbhramālāpamohaiśca sukhaduḥkhairvimucyate
"free of grief and joy, free of despondency, free of greed, envy, and confusion; freed from agitation, idle talk, delusion, pleasure and pain,"
Verse 80 (padma.5.84.80)
विषयैश्चापि सर्वैश्च इंद्रियाणां प्रमुच्यते । तदा स केवलज्ञानी कैवल्यत्वं प्रजायते
viṣayaiścāpi sarvaiśca iṁdriyāṇāṁ pramucyate tadā sa kevalajñānī kaivalyatvaṁ prajāyate
"and freed too from all sense-objects of the senses — then he, of pure knowledge alone, attains the state of kaivalya."

ज्वालाकर्मप्रसंगेन दीपस्तैलं प्रशोषयेत् । वर्त्याधारेण राजेंद्र निर्द्वन्द्वो वायुवर्जितः
jvālākarmaprasaṁgena dīpastailaṁ praśoṣayet vartyādhāreṇa rājeṁdra nirdvandvo vāyuvarjitaḥ
"By the process of its own flame, a lamp dries up its oil, O king of kings, through the medium of the wick, free of duality, free of wind;"
Verse 82 (padma.5.84.82)
कज्जलं वमते पश्चात्तैलस्यापि महामते । कृष्णा संदृश्यते रेखा दीपस्याग्रे महामते
kajjalaṁ vamate paścāttailasyāpi mahāmate kṛṣṇā saṁdṛśyate rekhā dīpasyāgre mahāmate
"it then emits soot, and also, O great-minded one, a black streak is seen at the lamp's tip, O great-minded one —"

स्वयमाकृष्य तत्तैलं तेजसा निर्मलोभवेत् । काये चांतः स्थितस्तद्वत्कर्मतैलं प्रशोषयेत्
svayamākṛṣya tattailaṁ tejasā nirmalobhavet kāye cāṁtaḥ sthitastadvatkarmatailaṁ praśoṣayet
"having itself drawn up that very oil, it becomes spotless through its own radiance. So too, within the body, the soul dries up the oil of karma;"

विषयान्कज्जलं कृत्वा प्रत्यक्षान्संप्रदर्शयेत् । ज्वालावन्निर्मलो भूत्वा स्वयमेव प्रकाशयेत्
viṣayānkajjalaṁ kṛtvā pratyakṣānsaṁpradarśayet jvālāvannirmalo bhūtvā svayameva prakāśayet
"having turned the objects of sense into soot, it directly displays them; becoming spotless like the flame, it shines forth of its own accord,"

क्रोधलोभादिभिः संज्ञैर्वायुभिः परिवर्जितः । निःस्पृहो निश्चलो भूत्वा तेजश्च स्वयमुज्ज्वलेत्
krodhalobhādibhiḥ saṁjñairvāyubhiḥ parivarjitaḥ niḥspṛho niścalo bhūtvā tejaśca svayamujjvalet
"freed from the winds named anger, greed, and the like, becoming desireless and unwavering, its own radiance blazes forth;"

त्रैलोक्यं पश्यते सर्वं स्वस्थानस्थं स्वतेजसा । केवलज्ञानरूपोऽयं मया ते परिकीर्तितः
trailokyaṁ paśyate sarvaṁ svasthānasthaṁ svatejasā kevalajñānarūpo'yaṁ mayā te parikīrtitaḥ
"it sees the whole of the three worlds, remaining in its own place, by its own radiance. This is the form of pure knowledge, which I have declared to you."

ध्यानं चैव प्रवक्ष्यामि द्विविधं तस्य चक्रिणः । केवलज्ञानरूपेण दृश्यते परचक्षुषा
dhyānaṁ caiva pravakṣyāmi dvividhaṁ tasya cakriṇaḥ kevalajñānarūpeṇa dṛśyate paracakṣuṣā
"I shall now tell the meditation of that wielder of the discus, twofold: in the form of pure knowledge, he is seen by the higher eye,"

योगयुक्ता महात्मानः परमार्थपरायणाः । यं न पश्यंति मुग्धास्तु सर्वज्ञं सर्वदर्शकम्
yogayuktā mahātmānaḥ paramārthaparāyaṇāḥ yaṁ na paśyaṁti mugdhāstu sarvajñaṁ sarvadarśakam
"whereas great souls united in yoga, devoted to the supreme truth, see him thus, but the deluded do not see him, all-knowing, all-seeing —"

हस्तपादविहीनश्च सर्वत्र परिगच्छति । सर्वं गृह्णाति त्रैलोक्यं स्थावरं जंगमं पुनः
hastapādavihīnaśca sarvatra parigacchati sarvaṁ gṛhṇāti trailokyaṁ sthāvaraṁ jaṁgamaṁ punaḥ
"though without hands or feet, he moves everywhere; he grasps the entire threefold world, both moving and unmoving, again and again;"

नासामुखविहीनस्तु घ्राति भक्षति भूपते । अकर्णः शृणुते सर्वं सर्वसाक्षी जगत्पतिः
nāsāmukhavihīnastu ghrāti bhakṣati bhūpate akarṇaḥ śṛṇute sarvaṁ sarvasākṣī jagatpatiḥ
"though without nose or mouth, O king, he smells and eats; though without ears, he hears everything, the all-witnessing Lord of the universe;"

अरूपो रूपसंबद्धः पंचवर्गवशं गतः । सर्वलोकस्य यः प्राणः पूज्यते सचराचरैः
arūpo rūpasaṁbaddhaḥ paṁcavargavaśaṁ gataḥ sarvalokasya yaḥ prāṇaḥ pūjyate sacarācaraiḥ
"though formless, connected with form, subject to the fivefold group of senses — he who is the very life-breath of all the world is worshipped by all, moving and unmoving;"

अजिह्वो वदते सर्वं वेदशास्त्रानुगं तथा । अत्वचः स्पर्शमेवापि सर्वेषामेव विंदति
ajihvo vadate sarvaṁ vedaśāstrānugaṁ tathā atvacaḥ sparśamevāpi sarveṣāmeva viṁdati
"though tongueless, he speaks everything, in accordance with the Vedas and scriptures too; though without skin, he yet perceives the touch of all things;"

सदानंदो विविक्ताक्ष एकरूपो निराश्रयः । निर्गुणो निर्ममो व्यापी सगुणो निर्मलोऽनघः
sadānaṁdo viviktākṣa ekarūpo nirāśrayaḥ nirguṇo nirmamo vyāpī saguṇo nirmalo'naghaḥ
"ever blissful, of discerning eye, of one form, without support, without qualities, without possessiveness, all-pervading, endowed with qualities, spotless, faultless,"

अवश्यः सर्ववश्यात्मा सर्वदः सर्ववित्तमः । तस्य माता न चैवास्ति स वै सर्वमयो विभुः
avaśyaḥ sarvavaśyātmā sarvadaḥ sarvavittamaḥ tasya mātā na caivāsti sa vai sarvamayo vibhuḥ
"not subject to control, yet the very self subjecting all to control, the giver of all, the knower of all wealth — he has no mother at all, for he, the all-pervading one, is himself made of everything."

एवं सर्वमयं ध्यानं यश्च पश्यत्यनन्यधीः । स याति परमं स्थानममूर्त्तममृतोपमम्
evaṁ sarvamayaṁ dhyānaṁ yaśca paśyatyananyadhīḥ sa yāti paramaṁ sthānamamūrttamamṛtopamam
He who, with undivided mind, sees this meditation as all-pervading, goes to that supreme place, formless, comparable to nectar.

द्वितीयं तु प्रवक्ष्यामि तच्छृणुष्व महामते । मूर्त्ताकारं तु साकारं निराकारं निरामयम्
dvitīyaṁ tu pravakṣyāmi tacchṛṇuṣva mahāmate mūrttākāraṁ tu sākāraṁ nirākāraṁ nirāmayam
"Now I shall tell the second form of meditation; hear it, O great-minded one: the embodied, having form, the formless, free of affliction —"

ब्रह्मांडं सर्वमतुलं वासितं यस्य वासनात् । स तस्माद्वासुदेवस्तु प्रोच्यते नृपनंदन
brahmāṁḍaṁ sarvamatulaṁ vāsitaṁ yasya vāsanāt sa tasmādvāsudevastu procyate nṛpanaṁdana
"the entire, matchless universe, which is pervaded by his very fragrance — from that, he is called Vasudeva, O delight of the king."

वर्षमाणस्य मेघस्य यद्भासा तस्य तद्भवेत् । सूर्यतेजःप्रतीकाशं चतुर्बाहुं सुरेश्वरम्
varṣamāṇasya meghasya yadbhāsā tasya tadbhavet sūryatejaḥpratīkāśaṁ caturbāhuṁ sureśvaram
"Whatever splendor a raining cloud possesses, such is his; resembling the radiance of the sun, four-armed, lord of the gods."

दक्षिणे शोभते शंखो हेमरत्नविभूषितः । कौमोदकी गदा तस्य महासुरविनाशिनी
dakṣiṇe śobhate śaṁkho hemaratnavibhūṣitaḥ kaumodakī gadā tasya mahāsuravināśinī
"On his right shines the conch, adorned with gold and jewels; his mace, Kaumodaki, the destroyer of great demons,"

वामे च शोभते वीर हस्ते तस्य महात्मनः । महापद्मं सुगंधाढ्यं तस्य दक्षिणहस्तगम्
vāme ca śobhate vīra haste tasya mahātmanaḥ mahāpadmaṁ sugaṁdhāḍhyaṁ tasya dakṣiṇahastagam
"shines, O hero, in the hand of that great soul, on the left; the great lotus, rich with fragrance, is in his right hand,"

शोभमानं सदैवास्ते सायुधं कमलश्रियम् । कंबुग्रीवं सुवृत्तास्यं पद्मपत्रनिभेक्षणम्
śobhamānaṁ sadaivāste sāyudhaṁ kamalaśriyam kaṁbugrīvaṁ suvṛttāsyaṁ padmapatranibhekṣaṇam
"ever radiant, holding his weapons, the very glory of the lotus; his neck like a conch-shell, his mouth well-rounded, his eyes like lotus petals,"

"resplendent Janardana, marked with the Kaustubha jewel; shining with his two earrings, resembling the radiance of the sun,"

वपुषा भ्राजमानस्तु विजयो जयतां वरः । भ्राजतेसोऽपि गोविंदो हेमवर्णेन वाससा
vapuṣā bhrājamānastu vijayo jayatāṁ varaḥ bhrājateso'pi goviṁdo hemavarṇena vāsasā
"resplendent in body, Vijaya, foremost among conquerors; that Govinda too shines, with garments the color of gold,"

मुद्रिकाभिस्तु युक्ताभिरंगुलीषु विराजते । सर्वायुधैः सुसंपूर्णैर्द्दिव्यैराभरणैर्हरिः

"resplendent on his fingers with rings; Hari, complete with every weapon, with divine ornaments,"

वैनतेयसमारूढो लोककर्त्ता जगत्पतिः । एवं यो ध्यायते नित्यमनन्यमनसा नरः
vainateyasamārūḍho lokakarttā jagatpatiḥ evaṁ yo dhyāyate nityamananyamanasā naraḥ
"mounted upon Vainateya, the maker of the worlds, lord of the universe — thus that man who meditates constantly, with undivided mind,"

मुच्यते सर्वपापेभ्यो विष्णुलोकं स गच्छति । एतत्ते सर्वमाख्यातं ध्यानभेदं जगत्पतेः
mucyate sarvapāpebhyo viṣṇulokaṁ sa gacchati etatte sarvamākhyātaṁ dhyānabhedaṁ jagatpateḥ
is freed from all sins, and goes to Vishnu's realm. This, all of it, has been declared to you — the distinction in meditation upon the Lord of the universe.
