Verse 1 (padma.6.133.1)

पार्वत्युवाच। द्वीपेऽस्मिन्यानि तीर्थानि तानि मे वद सुव्रत । द्वीपानां द्वीपराजोऽयं सर्वदा भुवि निर्मितः । संख्यया त्वं वद स्वामिन्कृपां कृत्वा ममोपरि

pārvatyuvāca dvīpe'sminyāni tīrthāni tāni me vada suvrata dvīpānāṁ dvīparājo'yaṁ sarvadā bhuvi nirmitaḥ saṁkhyayā tvaṁ vada svāminkṛpāṁ kṛtvā mamopari

Parvati said: 'O keeper of true vows, tell me of all the sacred fords upon this island. This is ever the king of all islands, fashioned here upon the earth. O Lord, out of grace to me, tell me of them together with their number.'

Verse 2 (padma.6.133.2)

महादेव उवाच। सर्वगः सर्वभूतेषु द्रष्टव्यः सर्वतो भुवि । सप्तलोकेषु यत्किंचिद्दृश्यते सचराचरम्

mahādeva uvāca sarvagaḥ sarvabhūteṣu draṣṭavyaḥ sarvato bhuvi saptalokeṣu yatkiṁciddṛśyate sacarācaram

Mahadeva said: 'He who pervades all things, who is to be seen in every being, present everywhere upon this earth; whatever is seen throughout the seven worlds, moving and unmoving alike —'

Verse 3 (padma.6.133.3)

तत्वं तेन विना देवि न दृष्टं न श्रुतं मया । अतो विष्णुर्महादेवः केशवः क्लेशनाशनः । तीर्थरूपेण वर्तेत द्वीपे ह्यस्मिन्सुरेश्वरि

tatvaṁ tena vinā devi na dṛṣṭaṁ na śrutaṁ mayā ato viṣṇurmahādevaḥ keśavaḥ kleśanāśanaḥ tīrtharūpeṇa varteta dvīpe hyasminsureśvari

'no reality, O goddess, have I ever seen or heard of apart from him. Therefore, O queen of gods, Vishnu himself, as great god, as Keshava, destroyer of affliction, abides upon this island in the form of its sacred fords.'

Verse 4 (padma.6.133.4)

तानि तीर्थानि वक्ष्यामि सांप्रतं नात्र संशयः । प्रथमं पुष्करं क्षेत्रं तीर्थानां प्रवरं शुभम् । वाराणसी द्वितीयं तु क्षेत्रं मुक्तिप्रदायकम्

tāni tīrthāni vakṣyāmi sāṁprataṁ nātra saṁśayaḥ prathamaṁ puṣkaraṁ kṣetraṁ tīrthānāṁ pravaraṁ śubham vārāṇasī dvitīyaṁ tu kṣetraṁ muktipradāyakam

'Now, without any doubt, I shall recount those sacred fords. First is the field of Pushkara, foremost and most auspicious among the sacred fords; second is the field of Varanasi, bestower of liberation.'

Verse 5 (padma.6.133.5)

तृतीयं नैमिषं क्षेत्रमृषीणां पावनं स्मृतम् । प्रयागं वै चतुर्थं तु तीर्थानामुत्तमं स्मृतम्

tṛtīyaṁ naimiṣaṁ kṣetramṛṣīṇāṁ pāvanaṁ smṛtam prayāgaṁ vai caturthaṁ tu tīrthānāmuttamaṁ smṛtam

'Third is the field of Naimisha, held sacred by the sages; fourth is Prayaga, declared the most excellent of all sacred fords.'

Verse 6 (padma.6.133.6)

कार्मुकं पंचमं प्रोक्तं उत्पन्नं गंधमादने । एकादशं कान्यकुब्जं यत्र तिष्ठति वामनः

kārmukaṁ paṁcamaṁ proktaṁ utpannaṁ gaṁdhamādane ekādaśaṁ kānyakubjaṁ yatra tiṣṭhati vāmanaḥ

'Fifth is called Karmuka, arising on Mount Gandhamadana. Eleventh is Kanyakubja, where Vamana himself abides.'

Verse 7 (padma.6.133.7)

सप्तमं विश्वकायं तु अवरे पर्वते शुभे । अष्टमं गौतमाख्यं च मंदरे निर्मितं पुरा

saptamaṁ viśvakāyaṁ tu avare parvate śubhe aṣṭamaṁ gautamākhyaṁ ca maṁdare nirmitaṁ purā

'Seventh is Vishvakaya, on the auspicious mount Avara; eighth is that named Gautama, fashioned long ago upon Mount Mandara.'

Verse 8 (padma.6.133.8)

मदोत्कटं तु नवमं दशमं रथचैत्रकम् । एकादशं कान्यकुब्जं यत्र तिष्ठति वामनः

madotkaṭaṁ tu navamaṁ daśamaṁ rathacaitrakam ekādaśaṁ kānyakubjaṁ yatra tiṣṭhati vāmanaḥ

'Ninth is Madotkata, tenth is Rathachaitraka, and eleventh, as already told, is Kanyakubja, where Vamana abides.'

Verse 9 (padma.6.133.9)

द्वादशं मलयं चैव कुब्जाम्रकमतः परम् । विश्वेश्वरं गिरिकर्णं केदारं गतिदायकम्

dvādaśaṁ malayaṁ caiva kubjāmrakamataḥ param viśveśvaraṁ girikarṇaṁ kedāraṁ gatidāyakam

'Twelfth is Malaya, and after it Kubjamraka; and there are also Vishveshvara, Girikarna, and Kedara, which bestows the highest goal.'

Verse 10 (padma.6.133.10)

बाह्यं हिमवतः पृष्ठे गोकर्णे गोपकं तथा । स्थानेश्वरं हिमाद्रौ च बिल्वके बिल्वपत्रिकम्

bāhyaṁ himavataḥ pṛṣṭhe gokarṇe gopakaṁ tathā sthāneśvaraṁ himādrau ca bilvake bilvapatrikam

'Bahya is on the ridge of the Himalaya; Gopaka is at Gokarna; Sthaneshvara is on the snow-mountain, and Bilvapatrika is at Bilvaka.'

Verse 11 (padma.6.133.11)

श्रीशैले माधवं तीर्थं भद्रं भद्रेश्वरे तथा । वाराहे विजयं प्रोक्तं वैष्णवं वैष्णवे गिरौ

śrīśaile mādhavaṁ tīrthaṁ bhadraṁ bhadreśvare tathā vārāhe vijayaṁ proktaṁ vaiṣṇavaṁ vaiṣṇave girau

'On Mount Shrishaila is the Madhava ford; at Bhadreshvara is Bhadra; at Varaha is that called Vijaya, and on the Vaishnava mountain is Vaishnava.'

Verse 12 (padma.6.133.12)

रौद्रं तु रुद्रकोटे तु पैत्र्यं कालिजरे गिरौ । कंपिले कापिलं तीर्थं मुकुटे कर्कोटकं तथा

raudraṁ tu rudrakoṭe tu paitryaṁ kālijare girau kaṁpile kāpilaṁ tīrthaṁ mukuṭe karkoṭakaṁ tathā

'At Rudrakota is Raudra; on Mount Kalanjara is Paitrya; at Kampila is Kapila, and at Mukuta is Karkotaka.'

Verse 13 (padma.6.133.13)

शालग्रामोद्भवं तीर्थं गल्लिकायां सुरेश्वरि । नर्मदायां शिवाख्यं तु मायायां विश्वरूपकम्

śālagrāmodbhavaṁ tīrthaṁ gallikāyāṁ sureśvari narmadāyāṁ śivākhyaṁ tu māyāyāṁ viśvarūpakam

'O queen of gods, at Gallika is the ford born of the Shaligrama; on the Narmada is that called Shiva, and at Maya is Vishvarupaka.'

Verse 14 (padma.6.133.14)

उत्पलाक्षं सहस्राक्षं जातं वै रैवते गिरौ । गंगायां पितृतीर्थं च विष्णुपादोद्भवं तथा

utpalākṣaṁ sahasrākṣaṁ jātaṁ vai raivate girau gaṁgāyāṁ pitṛtīrthaṁ ca viṣṇupādodbhavaṁ tathā

'Utpalaksha and Sahasraksha arose upon Mount Raivataka; on the Ganga is Pitritirtha, and also that born from Vishnu's own footprint.'

Verse 15 (padma.6.133.15)

विपाशायां विपापा च पाटले पुंड्रवर्द्धनम् । नारायणं सुपार्श्वे तु त्रिकूटे विष्णुमंदिरम्

vipāśāyāṁ vipāpā ca pāṭale puṁḍravarddhanam nārāyaṇaṁ supārśve tu trikūṭe viṣṇumaṁdiram

'On the Vipasha is Vipapa; at Patala is Pundravardhana; at Suparshva is Narayana, and at Trikuta is Vishnumandira.'

Verse 16 (padma.6.133.16)

विपुले विपुलं नाम कल्याणं मलयाचले । कौरवं कोटितीर्थे च सुगंधं गंधमादने

vipule vipulaṁ nāma kalyāṇaṁ malayācale kauravaṁ koṭitīrthe ca sugaṁdhaṁ gaṁdhamādane

'On Mount Vipula is that named Vipula; on the Malaya range is Kalyana; at Kotitirtha is Kaurava, and on Gandhamadana is Sugandha.'

Verse 17 (padma.6.133.17)

कुब्जाम्रके त्रिसंध्यं तु गंगांद्वारे हरिप्रियम् । शैलं विंध्यप्रदेशे तु बदर्यां सारस्वतं स्मृतम्

kubjāmrake trisaṁdhyaṁ tu gaṁgāṁdvāre haripriyam śailaṁ viṁdhyapradeśe tu badaryāṁ sārasvataṁ smṛtam

'At Kubjamraka is Trisandhya; at Gangadvara is Haripriya; in the Vindhya region is Shaila, and at Badari is that held to be Sarasvata.'

Verse 18 (padma.6.133.18)

कालिद्यां कालरूपं च सह्ये वै सायकं स्मृतम् । चांद्रं चंद्रप्रदेशे तु रमणं तीर्थनायकम्

kālidyāṁ kālarūpaṁ ca sahye vai sāyakaṁ smṛtam cāṁdraṁ caṁdrapradeśe tu ramaṇaṁ tīrthanāyakam

'On the Kalindi is Kalarupa; on the Sahya mountains is that held to be Sayaka; in the Chandra region is Chandra, and Ramana stands as chief among the fords.'

Verse 19 (padma.6.133.19)

यमुनायां मृगाख्यं तु करवीरे कुरूद्भवम् । विनायके पर्वते वै उमाख्यं तीर्थमेव च

yamunāyāṁ mṛgākhyaṁ tu karavīre kurūdbhavam vināyake parvate vai umākhyaṁ tīrthameva ca

'On the Yamuna is that called Mriga; at Karavira is that born of Kuru; and on Mount Vinayaka is also the ford named Uma.'

Verse 20 (padma.6.133.20)

आरोग्यं भास्करे देशे महाकाले महेश्वरम् । तीर्थं अभयदं नामामृताख्यं विंध्यकंधरे

ārogyaṁ bhāskare deśe mahākāle maheśvaram tīrthaṁ abhayadaṁ nāmāmṛtākhyaṁ viṁdhyakaṁdhare

'In the Bhaskara region is Arogya; at Mahakala is Maheshvara; there is the ford called Abhayada, and on the Vindhya ridge is that called Amrita.'

Verse 21 (padma.6.133.21)

मंडपे विश्वरूपं च स्वाहाख्यं ईश्वरे पुरे । वैगलेयं प्रचंडायां चांडिकंमरकंटके

maṁḍape viśvarūpaṁ ca svāhākhyaṁ īśvare pure vaigaleyaṁ pracaṁḍāyāṁ cāṁḍikaṁmarakaṁṭake

'At Mandapa is Vishvarupa; in the city of Ishvara is that named Svaha; on the Prachanda is Vaigaleya, and at Marakantaka is Chandika.'

Verse 22 (padma.6.133.22)

सोमेश्वरं तथा तीर्थे प्रभासे पुष्करं तथा । देवमात्रं सरस्वत्यां पारावततटे स्थितम्

someśvaraṁ tathā tīrthe prabhāse puṣkaraṁ tathā devamātraṁ sarasvatyāṁ pārāvatataṭe sthitam

'There is also the ford of Someshvara; at Prabhasa too is Pushkara; on the Sarasvati is Devamatra, situated on the bank of the Paravata.'

Verse 23 (padma.6.133.23)

महालयं महापद्मे पयोष्ण्यां पिंगलेश्वरम् । सिंहिकायां तथा तीर्थं सौरवेरविसंज्ञकम्

mahālayaṁ mahāpadme payoṣṇyāṁ piṁgaleśvaram siṁhikāyāṁ tathā tīrthaṁ sauraveravisaṁjñakam

'At Mahapadma is Mahalaya; on the Payoshni is Pingaleshvara; at Sinhika too is the ford called Sauraveravi.'

Verse 24 (padma.6.133.24)

कार्तिकं कृत्तिकाक्षेत्रे शांकरं शंकरे गिरौ । उत्पलाख्यं ततो दिव्यं सुभद्रा सिंधुसंगमे

kārtikaṁ kṛttikākṣetre śāṁkaraṁ śaṁkare girau utpalākhyaṁ tato divyaṁ subhadrā siṁdhusaṁgame

'In the field of Krittika is Kartika; on Mount Shankara is Shankara; after it is the divine ford called Utpala, and at the confluence with the Sindhu is Subhadra.'

Verse 25 (padma.6.133.25)

गाणपत्यं ततश्चैव पर्वतो विष्णुसंज्ञके । जालंधरे ततः प्रोक्तं तीर्थं विष्णुमुखं च यत्

gāṇapatyaṁ tataścaiva parvato viṣṇusaṁjñake jālaṁdhare tataḥ proktaṁ tīrthaṁ viṣṇumukhaṁ ca yat

'Then follows Ganapatya; there is also a ford on the mountain called Vishnu; and after it, at Jalandhara, is that ford declared to be Vishnumukha.'

Verse 26 (padma.6.133.26)

तारे वै तारकं प्रोक्तं पर्वते विष्णुसंज्ञके । देवदारुवने पौंड्रं पौष्कं काश्मीरमंडले

tāre vai tārakaṁ proktaṁ parvate viṣṇusaṁjñake devadāruvane pauṁḍraṁ pauṣkaṁ kāśmīramaṁḍale

'At Tara is that declared to be Taraka, on the mountain called Vishnu; in the Devadaru forest is Paundra, and in the Kashmir region is Paushka.'

Verse 27 (padma.6.133.27)

भौमं हिमं हिमाद्रौ च तुष्टिकं पौष्टिकं पुनः । कपालमोचनं तीर्थं जातं मायापुरे तथा

bhaumaṁ himaṁ himādrau ca tuṣṭikaṁ pauṣṭikaṁ punaḥ kapālamocanaṁ tīrthaṁ jātaṁ māyāpure tathā

'Bhauma and Hima are on the Himalaya, and there are also Tushtika and Paushtika; Kapalamochana arose in Mayapuri.'

Verse 28 (padma.6.133.28)

शंखोद्धारं ततश्चैव देवं वै शंखधारकम् । पिंडे वै पिंडनामानं सिद्धे वैखानसं भवेत्

śaṁkhoddhāraṁ tataścaiva devaṁ vai śaṁkhadhārakam piṁḍe vai piṁḍanāmānaṁ siddhe vaikhānasaṁ bhavet

'Then there is Shankhoddhara, the divine bearer of the conch; at Pinda is that named Pinda, and at Siddha is Vaikhanasa.'

Verse 29 (padma.6.133.29)

अच्छोदे विष्णुकामं तु धर्मकामार्थमोक्षदम् । औषध्यं चोत्तरेकूले कुशद्वीपे कुशोदकम्

acchode viṣṇukāmaṁ tu dharmakāmārthamokṣadam auṣadhyaṁ cottarekūle kuśadvīpe kuśodakam

'At Achchhoda is Vishnukama, bestower of dharma, artha, kama, and moksha; on the northern bank is Aushadhya, and in Kushadvipa is Kushodaka.'

Verse 30 (padma.6.133.30)

मन्मथं हेमकूटे तु कुमुदे सत्यवादनम् । वदंत्यावाश्वकं तीर्थं विंध्ये वै मातृकं स्मृतम्

manmathaṁ hemakūṭe tu kumude satyavādanam vadaṁtyāvāśvakaṁ tīrthaṁ viṁdhye vai mātṛkaṁ smṛtam

'On Hemakuta is Manmatha; at Kumuda is Satyavadana; there is also the ford spoken of as Avashvaka, and on the Vindhya is that held to be Matrika.'

Verse 31 (padma.6.133.31)

चित्ते ब्रह्ममयं तीर्थं तीर्थानां पावनं स्मृतम् । एतेषां सर्वतीर्थानामुत्तमं शृणु सुंदरि

citte brahmamayaṁ tīrthaṁ tīrthānāṁ pāvanaṁ smṛtam eteṣāṁ sarvatīrthānāmuttamaṁ śṛṇu suṁdari

'Within the mind itself is the tirtha made of Brahman, held to be the most sacred of all sacred fords. O lovely one, hear now of the supreme one among all these fords.'

Verse 32 (padma.6.133.32)

विष्णोर्नाममयं तीर्थं न भूतं न भविष्यति । ब्रह्महा हेमहारी वा बालहा गोघ्न एव च

viṣṇornāmamayaṁ tīrthaṁ na bhūtaṁ na bhaviṣyati brahmahā hemahārī vā bālahā goghna eva ca

'The sacred ford made of Vishnu's very name has never been equaled, nor shall it ever be. One who has killed a brahmin, stolen gold, killed a child, or killed a cow —'

Verse 33 (padma.6.133.33)

मुच्यते नाममात्रेण प्रसादात्केशवस्य तु । कलौ द्वारवती रम्या धन्यो देवो जनार्दनः

mucyate nāmamātreṇa prasādātkeśavasya tu kalau dvāravatī ramyā dhanyo devo janārdanaḥ

'he too is freed merely by uttering the name, through the grace of Keshava. In the Kali age, lovely Dvaravati is most blessed, and blessed too is the god Janardana who dwells there.'

Verse 34 (padma.6.133.34)

ये पश्यंति नरा देवं मुक्तिस्तेषां सुनिश्चला । एवं धन्यतमं देवं विष्णुं सर्वेश्वरं प्रभुम्

ye paśyaṁti narā devaṁ muktisteṣāṁ suniścalā evaṁ dhanyatamaṁ devaṁ viṣṇuṁ sarveśvaraṁ prabhum

'Men who behold that god have their liberation assured beyond doubt. Thus that most blessed god, Vishnu, lord of all, the supreme master —'

Verse 35 (padma.6.133.35)

चिंतयामि महादेवि विद्वत्संस्थो जनार्दनम् । अष्टोत्तरं तु तीर्थानां शतमेतदुदाहृतम्

ciṁtayāmi mahādevi vidvatsaṁstho janārdanam aṣṭottaraṁ tu tīrthānāṁ śatametadudāhṛtam

'him, O great goddess, do I contemplate, established among the wise, as Janardana. Thus has this list of one hundred and eight sacred fords been recounted.'

Verse 36 (padma.6.133.36)

यो जपेच्छृणुयाद्वापि सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते । एषु तीर्थेषु यः स्नात्वा पश्येन्नारायणं हरिम्

yo japecchṛṇuyādvāpi sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyate eṣu tīrtheṣu yaḥ snātvā paśyennārāyaṇaṁ harim

'Whoever recites this, or even merely hears it, is freed from all sins. Whoever bathes at these fords and beholds Lord Narayana Hari,'

Verse 37 (padma.6.133.37)

सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो याति विष्णोः सनातनम् । जगन्नाथं महातीर्थं लोकानां पावनं स्मृतम्

sarvapāpavinirmukto yāti viṣṇoḥ sanātanam jagannāthaṁ mahātīrthaṁ lokānāṁ pāvanaṁ smṛtam

'freed from every sin, he goes to the eternal abode of Vishnu. Jagannatha too is a great sacred ford, held to purify all the worlds.'

Verse 38 (padma.6.133.38)

ये गच्छंति नरश्रेष्ठास्तेपि यांति परां गतिम् । शताष्टकं महापुण्यं श्रावयेत्पितृकर्मणि

ye gacchaṁti naraśreṣṭhāstepi yāṁti parāṁ gatim śatāṣṭakaṁ mahāpuṇyaṁ śrāvayetpitṛkarmaṇi

'Excellent men who go there likewise attain the supreme state. This most meritorious list of one hundred and eight should be recited during rites performed for the ancestors.'

Verse 39 (padma.6.133.39)

इहलोके सुखं भुक्त्वा याति विष्णोः सनातनम् । गोदाने श्राद्धदाने वा अहन्यहनि वा पुनः

ihaloke sukhaṁ bhuktvā yāti viṣṇoḥ sanātanam godāne śrāddhadāne vā ahanyahani vā punaḥ

'One who does so, having enjoyed happiness in this world, goes to the eternal abode of Vishnu. Whether at the giving of a cow, at a shraddha offering, or indeed day after day —'

Verse 40 (padma.6.133.40)

देवार्चनविधौ विद्वान्परं ब्रह्माधिगच्छति

devārcanavidhau vidvānparaṁ brahmādhigacchati

'the wise man who recites it in the course of divine worship attains the supreme Brahman.'
