The Glory of Tirtharaja

Verse 1 (padma.6.160.1)

महादेव उवाच। अस्मात्तीर्थात्परं तीर्थं तीर्थराजेति विश्रुतम् । सप्तनद्यो वहंत्यत्र चंदनोदकमिश्रितम्

mahādeva uvāca asmāttīrthātparaṃ tīrthaṃ tīrtharājeti viśrutam saptanadyo vahaṃtyatra caṃdanodakamiśritam

Mahadeva said: Beyond this tirtha is another, renowned as Tirtharaja, King of Tirthas. Here seven rivers flow, mingled with sandal-scented water.

Verse 2 (padma.6.160.2)

अन्यतीर्थाच्छतगुणं स्नानं चात्र विशिष्यते । देवानां प्रवरो देवो यत्रास्ते वामनः स्वयम्

anyatīrthācchataguṇaṃ snānaṃ cātra viśiṣyate devānāṃ pravaro devo yatrāste vāmanaḥ svayam

Bathing here is distinguished as a hundredfold greater than at other tirthas; here abides Vamana himself, the foremost of the gods.

Verse 3 (padma.6.160.3)

द्वादश्यां माघमासस्य दद्याद्यस्तिलधेनुकम् । विमुक्तः सर्वपापेभ्यः कुलानां तारयेच्छतम्

dvādaśyāṃ māghamāsasya dadyādyastiladhenukam vimuktaḥ sarvapāpebhyaḥ kulānāṃ tārayecchatam

Whoever gives a cow made of sesame on the twelfth day of Magha is freed from all sins, and delivers a hundred generations of his family.

Verse 4 (padma.6.160.4)

पानीयमप्यत्र तिलैर्विमिश्रं दद्यात्पितृभ्यः प्रयतो मनुष्यः । श्राद्धं कृतं तेन समाः सहस्रं रहस्यमेतत्पितरो वदंति

pānīyamapyatra tilairvimiśraṃ dadyātpitṛbhyaḥ prayato manuṣyaḥ śrāddhaṃ kṛtaṃ tena samāḥ sahasraṃ rahasyametatpitaro vadaṃti

Whatever pure man offers water mixed with sesame to the ancestors here -- by him a shraddha is performed lasting a thousand years; this secret the ancestors themselves declare.

Verse 5 (padma.6.160.5)

तीर्थेऽस्मिन्भोजयेद्यो वै ब्राह्मणान्गुडपायसैः । एकस्मिन्भोजिते विप्रे सहस्रं भोजितं भवेत्

tīrthe'sminbhojayedyo vai brāhmaṇānguḍapāyasaiḥ ekasminbhojite vipre sahasraṃ bhojitaṃ bhavet

Whoever feeds brahmins here with sweet rice made with molasses -- by the feeding of a single brahmin, it is as though a thousand were fed.
