Verse 1 (shiva.shatarudra.5.1)

शिव उवाच । दशमे द्वापरे व्यासस्त्रिधामा नामतो मुनिः । हिमवच्छिखरे रम्ये भृगुतुङ्गे नगोत्तमे

śiva uvāca daśame dvāpare vyāsastridhāmā nāmato muniḥ himavacchikhare ramye bhṛgutuṅge nagottame

Shiva said: In the tenth Dvapara, the sage named Tridhama will be the Vyasa; on the beautiful peak of the Himalayas, on the excellent mountain Bhrigutunga, I shall appear.

Verse 2 (shiva.shatarudra.5.2)

तत्रापि मम पुत्राश्च भृग्वाद्याः श्रुतिसम्मिताः । बलबन्धुर्नरामित्रः केतुशृङ्गस्तपोधनः

tatrāpi mama putrāśca bhṛgvādyāḥ śrutisammitāḥ balabandhurnarāmitraḥ ketuśṛṅgastapodhanaḥ

There too, my sons, revered as taught in the scriptures, beginning with Bhrigu, shall be — Balabandhu, Naramitra, Ketushringa and Tapodhana.

Verse 3 (shiva.shatarudra.5.3)

एकादशे द्वापरे तु व्यासश्च त्रिवृतो यदा । गङ्गाद्वारे कलौ नाम्ना तपोऽहं भविता तदा

ekādaśe dvāpare tu vyāsaśca trivṛto yadā gaṅgādvāre kalau nāmnā tapo’haṁ bhavitā tadā

In the eleventh Dvapara, when the Vyasa will be Trivrit, then in that Kali, at Gangadvara, I shall be born under the name Tapa.

Verse 4 (shiva.shatarudra.5.4)

लम्बोदरश्च लम्बाक्षः केशलम्बः प्रलम्बकः । तत्रापि पुत्राश्चत्वारो भविष्यन्ति दृढव्रताः

lambodaraśca lambākṣaḥ keśalambaḥ pralambakaḥ tatrāpi putrāścatvāro bhaviṣyanti dṛḍhavratāḥ

Lambodara, Lambaksha, Keshalamba and Pralambaka — there too my four sons of firm vows shall be.

Verse 5 (shiva.shatarudra.5.5)

द्वादशे परिवर्त्ते तु शततेजाश्च वेदकृत् । तत्राप्यहं भविष्यामि द्वापरान्ते कलाविह

dvādaśe parivartte tu śatatejāśca vedakṛt tatrāpyahaṁ bhaviṣyāmi dvāparānte kalāviha

In the twelfth cycle, one named Shatateja will be the maker of the Veda; there too, at the end of that Dvapara, in this Kali, I shall be born.

Verse 6 (shiva.shatarudra.5.6)

हेमकञ्चुकमासाद्य नाम्ना ह्यत्रिः परिप्लुतः । व्यासस्यैव सहायार्थं निवृत्तिपथरोपणः

hemakañcukamāsādya nāmnā hyatriḥ pariplutaḥ vyāsasyaiva sahāyārthaṁ nivṛttipatharopaṇaḥ

Attaining the place named Hemakanchuka, filled with the name Atri, I shall become the planter of the path of Nivritti, for the sake of assisting that very Vyasa.

Verse 7 (shiva.shatarudra.5.7)

सर्वज्ञः समबुद्धिश्च साध्यः शर्वः सुयोगिनः । तत्रेति पुत्राश्चत्वारो भविष्यन्ति महामुने

sarvajñaḥ samabuddhiśca sādhyaḥ śarvaḥ suyoginaḥ tatreti putrāścatvāro bhaviṣyanti mahāmune

O great sage! Sarvajna, Samabuddhi, Sadhya, and Sharva — these four excellent yogi sons shall be there.

Verse 8 (shiva.shatarudra.5.8)

त्रयोदशे युगे तस्मिन्धर्मो नारायणः सदा । व्यासस्तदाहं भविता बलिर्नाम महामुनिः

trayodaśe yuge tasmindharmo nārāyaṇaḥ sadā vyāsastadāhaṁ bhavitā balirnāma mahāmuniḥ

In that thirteenth age, the ever-righteous Narayana will be the Vyasa; then I shall become the great sage named Bali.

Verse 9 (shiva.shatarudra.5.9)

वालखिल्याश्रमे गन्धमादने पर्वतोत्तमे । सुधामा काश्यपश्चैव वसिष्ठो विरजाः शुभाः

vālakhilyāśrame gandhamādane parvatottame sudhāmā kāśyapaścaiva vasiṣṭho virajāḥ śubhāḥ

At the hermitage of the Valakhilyas on the excellent mountain Gandhamadana — Sudhama, Kashyapa, Vasishtha, and the auspicious Viraja shall be my sons.

Verse 10 (shiva.shatarudra.5.10)

यदा व्यासस्तु रक्षाख्यः पर्याये तु चतुर्दशे । वंश आङ्गिरसे तत्र भविताहं च गौतमः

yadā vyāsastu rakṣākhyaḥ paryāye tu caturdaśe vaṁśa āṅgirase tatra bhavitāhaṁ ca gautamaḥ

When, in the fourteenth cycle, the Vyasa will be named Raksha, then I shall be born there in the lineage of Angiras, under the name Gautama.

Verse 11 (shiva.shatarudra.5.11)

तत्रापि मम ते पुत्रा भविष्यन्ति कलौ तदा । अत्रिर्दवशदश्चैव श्रवणोऽथ श्रविष्कटः

tatrāpi mama te putrā bhaviṣyanti kalau tadā atrirdavaśadaścaiva śravaṇo’tha śraviṣkaṭaḥ

There too, in that Kali, my sons shall be — Atri, Davashada, Shravana, and Shravishkata.

Verse 12 (shiva.shatarudra.5.12)

व्यासः पञ्चदशे त्रय्यारुणिर्वै द्वापरे यदा । तदाऽहं भविता वेदशिरा वेदशिरस्तथा

vyāsaḥ pañcadaśe trayyāruṇirvai dvāpare yadā tadā’haṁ bhavitā vedaśirā vedaśirastathā

When in the fifteenth Dvapara the Vyasa will be Trayyaruni, then I shall be born as Vedashira, at the place called Vedashiras.

Verse 13 (shiva.shatarudra.5.13)

महावीर्यं तदस्त्रं च वेदशीर्षश्च पर्वतः । हिमवत्पृष्ठमासाद्य सरस्वत्यास्तथोत्तरे

mahāvīryaṁ tadastraṁ ca vedaśīrṣaśca parvataḥ himavatpṛṣṭhamāsādya sarasvatyāstathottare

There is the weapon called Mahavirya, and the mountain called Vedashirsha, situated on the ridge of the Himalayas, to the north of the Sarasvati.

Verse 14 (shiva.shatarudra.5.14)

तत्रापि मम चत्वारो भविष्यन्ति सुता दृढाः । कुणिश्च कुणिबाहुश्च कुशरीरः कुनेत्रकः

tatrāpi mama catvāro bhaviṣyanti sutā dṛḍhāḥ kuṇiśca kuṇibāhuśca kuśarīraḥ kunetrakaḥ

There too, my four firm sons shall be — Kuni, Kunibahu, Kushariira, and Kunetraka.

Verse 15 (shiva.shatarudra.5.15)

व्यासो युगे षोडशे तु यदा देवो भविष्यति । तदा योगप्रदानाय गोकर्णो भविता ह्यहम्

vyāso yuge ṣoḍaśe tu yadā devo bhaviṣyati tadā yogapradānāya gokarṇo bhavitā hyaham

When in the sixteenth age the Vyasa will be named Deva, then, for the bestowal of yoga, I shall become one named Gokarna.

Verse 16 (shiva.shatarudra.5.16)

तत्रैव च सुपुण्यं च गोकर्णं नाम तद्वनम् । तत्रापि योगिनः पुत्र भविष्यन्त्यम्बुसम्मिताः

tatraiva ca supuṇyaṁ ca gokarṇaṁ nāma tadvanam tatrāpi yoginaḥ putra bhaviṣyantyambusammitāḥ

There, in that very place, is the most sacred forest named Gokarna; there too my yogi sons, four in number, shall be.

Verse 17 (shiva.shatarudra.5.17)

काश्यपोऽप्युशनाश्चैव च्यवनोऽथ बृहस्पतिः । तेऽपि तेनैव मार्गेण गमिष्यन्ति शिवालयम्

kāśyapo’pyuśanāścaiva cyavano’tha bṛhaspatiḥ te’pi tenaiva mārgeṇa gamiṣyanti śivālayam

Kashyapa, Ushana, Chyavana and Brihaspati — they too, by that same path, shall attain the abode of Shiva.

Verse 18 (shiva.shatarudra.5.18)

परिवर्त्ते सप्तदशे व्यासो देवकृतञ्जयः । गुहावासीति नाम्नाहं हिमवच्छिखरे शुभे

parivartte saptadaśe vyāso devakṛtañjayaḥ guhāvāsīti nāmnāhaṁ himavacchikhare śubhe

In the seventeenth cycle, the Vyasa will be Devakritanjaya; on the auspicious peak of the Himalayas, I shall be born under the name Guhavasin.

Verse 19 (shiva.shatarudra.5.19)

महालये महोत्तुङ्गे शिवक्षेत्रं हिमालयम् । उतथ्यो वामदेवश्च महायोगो महाबलः

mahālaye mahottuṅge śivakṣetraṁ himālayam utathyo vāmadevaśca mahāyogo mahābalaḥ

In the vast and towering Mahalaya, the field of Shiva that is the Himalaya — Utathya, Vamadeva, Mahayoga, and Mahabala shall be my sons.

Verse 20 (shiva.shatarudra.5.20)

परिवर्त्तेऽष्टादशे तु यदा व्यास ऋतञ्जयः । शिखण्डीनामतोऽहं तद्धिमवच्छिखरे शुभे

parivartte’ṣṭādaśe tu yadā vyāsa ṛtañjayaḥ śikhaṇḍīnāmato’haṁ taddhimavacchikhare śubhe

When in the eighteenth cycle the Vyasa will be Ritanjaya, then on that auspicious peak of the Himalayas I shall be born under the name Shikhandin.

Verse 21 (shiva.shatarudra.5.21)

सिद्धक्षेत्रे महापुण्ये शिखण्डी नाम पर्वतः । शिखण्डिनो वनं वापि यत्र सिद्धनिषेवितम्

siddhakṣetre mahāpuṇye śikhaṇḍī nāma parvataḥ śikhaṇḍino vanaṁ vāpi yatra siddhaniṣevitam

In that greatly sacred Siddha-field is the mountain named Shikhandin, or the forest of Shikhandin, where the Siddhas dwell in attendance.

Verse 22 (shiva.shatarudra.5.22)

वाचःश्रवा रुचीकश्च श्यावास्यश्च यतीश्वरः । एते पुत्रा भविष्यन्ति तत्रापि च तपोधनाः

vācaḥśravā rucīkaśca śyāvāsyaśca yatīśvaraḥ ete putrā bhaviṣyanti tatrāpi ca tapodhanāḥ

Vachahshrava, Ruchika, Shyavasya and Yatishvara — these sons, rich in austerity, shall be there too.

Verse 23 (shiva.shatarudra.5.23)

एकोनविंशे व्यासस्तु भरद्वाजो महामुनिः । तदाप्यहं भविष्यामि जटी माली च नामतः

ekonaviṁśe vyāsastu bharadvājo mahāmuniḥ tadāpyahaṁ bhaviṣyāmi jaṭī mālī ca nāmataḥ

In the nineteenth cycle, the great sage Bharadvaja will be the Vyasa; then I shall be born under the name Jati, also called Mali.

Verse 24 (shiva.shatarudra.5.24)

हिमवच्छिखरे तत्र पुत्रा मेऽम्बुधिसंहिताः । हिरण्यनामा कौशल्यो लोकाक्षी प्रधिमिस्तथा

himavacchikhare tatra putrā me’mbudhisaṁhitāḥ hiraṇyanāmā kauśalyo lokākṣī pradhimistathā

There, on the peak of the Himalayas, my sons, four in number, shall be — Hiranyanama, Kaushalya, Lokakshi, and Pradhimi.

Verse 25 (shiva.shatarudra.5.25)

परिवर्त्ते विंशतिमे भविता व्यास गौतमः । तत्राट्टहासनामाहमट्टहासप्रिया नराः

parivartte viṁśatime bhavitā vyāsa gautamaḥ tatrāṭṭahāsanāmāhamaṭṭahāsapriyā narāḥ

In the twentieth cycle, Gautama will be the Vyasa; there I shall be born under the name Attahasa, where the people delight in loud laughter.

Verse 26 (shiva.shatarudra.5.26)

तत्रैव हिमवत्पृष्ठे अट्टहासो महागिरिः । देवमानुषयक्षेन्द्रसिद्धचारणसेवितः

tatraiva himavatpṛṣṭhe aṭṭahāso mahāgiriḥ devamānuṣayakṣendrasiddhacāraṇasevitaḥ

There, on the ridge of the Himalayas, is the great mountain named Attahasa, attended by gods, men, the lord of Yakshas, Siddhas and Charanas.

Verse 27 (shiva.shatarudra.5.27)

तत्रापि मम ते पुत्रा भविष्यन्ति सुयोगिनः । सुमन्तुर्बर्बरिर्विद्वान् कबन्धः कुशिकन्धरः

tatrāpi mama te putrā bhaviṣyanti suyoginaḥ sumanturbarbarirvidvān kabandhaḥ kuśikandharaḥ

There too, my excellent yogi sons shall be — Sumantu, the learned Barbari, Kabandha, and Kushikandhara.

Verse 28 (shiva.shatarudra.5.28)

एकविंशे युगे तस्मिन् व्यासो वाचः श्रवा यदा । तदाहं दारुको नाम तस्माद्दारुवनं शुभम्

ekaviṁśe yuge tasmin vyāso vācaḥ śravā yadā tadāhaṁ dāruko nāma tasmāddāruvanaṁ śubham

In that twenty-first age, when the Vyasa will be Vachahshrava, then I shall be born under the name Daruka, whence that auspicious forest shall be called Daruvana.

Verse 29 (shiva.shatarudra.5.29)

तत्रापि मम ते पुत्रा भविष्यन्ति सुयोगिनः । प्लक्षो दार्भायणिश्चैव केतुमान् गौतमस्तथा

tatrāpi mama te putrā bhaviṣyanti suyoginaḥ plakṣo dārbhāyaṇiścaiva ketumān gautamastathā

There too, my excellent yogi sons shall be — Plaksha, Darbhayani, Ketuman, and Gautama.

Verse 30 (shiva.shatarudra.5.30)

द्वाविंशे परिवर्ते तु व्यासः शुष्मायणो यदा । तदाप्यहं भविष्यामि वाराणस्यां महामुनिः

dvāviṁśe parivarte tu vyāsaḥ śuṣmāyaṇo yadā tadāpyahaṁ bhaviṣyāmi vārāṇasyāṁ mahāmuniḥ

In the twenty-second cycle, when the Vyasa will be Shushmayana, then I shall appear as a great sage in Varanasi.

Verse 31 (shiva.shatarudra.5.31)

नाम्ना वै लाङ्गली भीमो यत्र देवाः सवासवाः । द्रक्ष्यन्ति मां कलौ तस्मिन्भवं चैव हलायुधम्

nāmnā vai lāṅgalī bhīmo yatra devāḥ savāsavāḥ drakṣyanti māṁ kalau tasminbhavaṁ caiva halāyudham

There, by the names Langali and Bhima, shall I dwell, where the gods together with Indra shall behold me, in that Kali, as Bhava, the wielder of the plow (Halayudha).

Verse 32 (shiva.shatarudra.5.32)

तत्रापि मम ते पुत्रा भविष्यन्ति सुधार्मिकाः । भल्लवी मधुपिङ्गश्च श्वेतकेतुस्तथैव च

tatrāpi mama te putrā bhaviṣyanti sudhārmikāḥ bhallavī madhupiṅgaśca śvetaketustathaiva ca

There too, my righteous sons shall be — Bhallavi, Madhupinga, and Shvetaketu.

Verse 33 (shiva.shatarudra.5.33)

परिवर्त्ते त्रयोविंशे तृणबिन्दुर्यदा मुनिः । श्वेतो नाम तदाऽहं वै गिरौ कालञ्जरे शुभे

parivartte trayoviṁśe tṛṇabinduryadā muniḥ śveto nāma tadā’haṁ vai girau kālañjare śubhe

In the twenty-third cycle, when the sage Trinabindu will be the Vyasa, then on the auspicious mountain Kalanjara I shall be born under the name Shveta.

Verse 34 (shiva.shatarudra.5.34)

तत्रापि मम ते पुत्रा भविष्यन्ति तपस्विनः । उशिको बृहदश्वश्च देवलः कविरेव च

tatrāpi mama te putrā bhaviṣyanti tapasvinaḥ uśiko bṛhadaśvaśca devalaḥ kavireva ca

There too, my ascetic sons shall be — Ushika, Brihadashva, Devala, and Kavi.

Verse 35 (shiva.shatarudra.5.35)

परिवर्त्ते चतुर्विंशे व्यासो यक्षो यदा विभुः । शूली नाम महायोगी तद्युगे नैमिषे तदा

parivartte caturviṁśe vyāso yakṣo yadā vibhuḥ śūlī nāma mahāyogī tadyuge naimiṣe tadā

In the twenty-fourth cycle, when the mighty Vyasa will be Yaksha, then in that age, at Naimisha, I shall become a great yogi named Shuli.

Verse 36 (shiva.shatarudra.5.36)

तत्रापि मम ते शिष्या भविष्यन्ति तपस्विनः । शालिहोत्रोऽग्निवेशश्च युवनाश्वः शरद्वसुः

tatrāpi mama te śiṣyā bhaviṣyanti tapasvinaḥ śālihotro’gniveśaśca yuvanāśvaḥ śaradvasuḥ

There too, my ascetic disciples shall be — Shalihotra, Agnivesha, Yuvanashva, and Sharadvasu.

Verse 37 (shiva.shatarudra.5.37)

पञ्चविंशे यदा व्यासः शक्तिर्नाम्ना भविष्यति । तदाप्यहं महायोगी दण्डी मुण्डीश्वरः प्रभुः

pañcaviṁśe yadā vyāsaḥ śaktirnāmnā bhaviṣyati tadāpyahaṁ mahāyogī daṇḍī muṇḍīśvaraḥ prabhuḥ

When in the twenty-fifth cycle the Vyasa will be named Shakti, then I, the great yogi Lord, shall be born as Dandi, also called Mundishvara.

Verse 38 (shiva.shatarudra.5.38)

तत्रापि मम ते शिष्या भविष्यन्ति तपस्विनः । छगलः कुण्डकर्णश्च कुम्भाण्डश्च प्रवाहकः

tatrāpi mama te śiṣyā bhaviṣyanti tapasvinaḥ chagalaḥ kuṇḍakarṇaśca kumbhāṇḍaśca pravāhakaḥ

There too, my ascetic disciples shall be — Chagala, Kundakarna, Kumbhanda, and Pravahaka.

Verse 39 (shiva.shatarudra.5.39)

व्यासः पराशरो यर्हि षड्विंशे भविताप्यहम् । पुरं भद्रवटं प्राप्य सहिष्णुर्नाम नामतः

vyāsaḥ parāśaro yarhi ṣaḍviṁśe bhavitāpyaham puraṁ bhadravaṭaṁ prāpya sahiṣṇurnāma nāmataḥ

When in the twenty-sixth cycle the Vyasa will be Parashara, then, coming to the town named Bhadravata, I shall be born under the name Sahishnu.

Verse 40 (shiva.shatarudra.5.40)

तत्रापि मम ते शिष्या भविष्यन्ति तपस्विनः । उलूको विद्युतश्चैव शम्बूको ह्याश्वलायनः

tatrāpi mama te śiṣyā bhaviṣyanti tapasvinaḥ ulūko vidyutaścaiva śambūko hyāśvalāyanaḥ

There too, my ascetic disciples shall be — Uluka, Vidyut, Shambuka, and Ashvalayana.

Verse 41 (shiva.shatarudra.5.41)

सप्तविंशे यदा व्यासो जातूकर्ण्यो भविष्यति । प्रभासतीर्थमाश्रित्य सोमशर्मा तदाप्यहम्

saptaviṁśe yadā vyāso jātūkarṇyo bhaviṣyati prabhāsatīrthamāśritya somaśarmā tadāpyaham

When in the twenty-seventh cycle the Vyasa will be Jatukarnya, then, taking refuge at the Prabhasa pilgrimage site, I shall be born under the name Somasharma.

Verse 42 (shiva.shatarudra.5.42)

तत्रापि मम ते शिष्या भविष्यन्ति तपस्विनः । अक्षपादः कुमारश्चोलूको वत्सस्तथैव च

tatrāpi mama te śiṣyā bhaviṣyanti tapasvinaḥ akṣapādaḥ kumāraścolūko vatsastathaiva ca

There too, my ascetic disciples shall be — Akshapada, Kumara, Uluka, and Vatsa.

Verse 43 (shiva.shatarudra.5.43)

अष्टाविंशे द्वापरे तु पराशरसुतो हरिः । यदा भविष्यामि व्यासो नाम्ना द्वैपायनः प्रमुः

aṣṭāviṁśe dvāpare tu parāśarasuto hariḥ yadā bhaviṣyāmi vyāso nāmnā dvaipāyanaḥ pramuḥ

In the twenty-eighth Dvapara, when the son of Parashara, Hari, the lord, becomes the Vyasa named Dvaipayana —

Verse 44 (shiva.shatarudra.5.44)

तदा षष्ठेन चांशेन कृष्णः पुरुषसत्तमः । वसुदेवसुतः श्रेष्ठो वासुदेवो भविष्यति

tadā ṣaṣṭhena cāṁśena kṛṣṇaḥ puruṣasattamaḥ vasudevasutaḥ śreṣṭho vāsudevo bhaviṣyati

— then Krishna, the best of persons, by his sixth portion, will become Vasudeva, the excellent son of Vasudeva.

Verse 45 (shiva.shatarudra.5.45)

तदाप्यहं भविष्यामि योगात्मा योगमायया । लोकविस्मापनार्थाय ब्रह्मचारिशरीरकः

tadāpyahaṁ bhaviṣyāmi yogātmā yogamāyayā lokavismāpanārthāya brahmacāriśarīrakaḥ

Then I too, being of the nature of yoga, through yogamaya, shall appear in the body of a celibate student, in order to astonish the people.

Verse 46 (shiva.shatarudra.5.46)

श्मशाने मृतमुत्सृज्य दृष्ट्वा कायमनामयम् । ब्राह्मणानां हितार्थाय प्रविष्टो योगमायया

śmaśāne mṛtamutsṛjya dṛṣṭvā kāyamanāmayam brāhmaṇānāṁ hitārthāya praviṣṭo yogamāyayā

Casting off a dead body in the cremation ground, and taking on an unblemished body, I shall enter it through yogamaya, for the welfare of the Brahmanas.

Verse 47 (shiva.shatarudra.5.47)

दिव्यां मेरुगुहां पुण्यां त्वया सार्धं च विष्णुना । भविष्यामि तदा ब्रह्मन् लङ्कुली नाम नामतः

divyāṁ meruguhāṁ puṇyāṁ tvayā sārdhaṁ ca viṣṇunā bhaviṣyāmi tadā brahman laṅkulī nāma nāmataḥ

O Brahman! Then, together with you and Vishnu, in that divine and sacred cave of Meru, I shall be born under the name Lakuli (Lankuli).

Verse 48 (shiva.shatarudra.5.48)

कायावतार इत्येवं सिद्धक्षेत्रं परं तदा । भविष्यति सुविख्यातं यावद् भूमिर्धरिष्यति

kāyāvatāra ityevaṁ siddhakṣetraṁ paraṁ tadā bhaviṣyati suvikhyātaṁ yāvad bhūmirdhariṣyati

Thus that supreme Siddha-field, known as "Kayavatara," shall remain widely renowned for as long as the earth endures.

Verse 49 (shiva.shatarudra.5.49)

तत्रापि मम ते शिष्या भविष्यन्ति तपस्विनः । कुशिकश्चैव गर्गश्च मित्रः कौरुष्य एव च

tatrāpi mama te śiṣyā bhaviṣyanti tapasvinaḥ kuśikaścaiva gargaśca mitraḥ kauruṣya eva ca

There too, my ascetic disciples shall be — Kushika, Garga, Mitra, and Kaurushya.

Verse 50 (shiva.shatarudra.5.50)

योगिनो ब्राह्मणा वेदपारगा ऊर्द्ध्वरेतसः । प्राप्य माहेश्वरं योगं गमिष्यन्ति शिवं पुरम्

yogino brāhmaṇā vedapāragā ūrddhvaretasaḥ prāpya māheśvaraṁ yogaṁ gamiṣyanti śivaṁ puram

These yogi Brahmanas, versed in the Vedas, of unbroken chastity, having attained the Maheshvara yoga, shall reach the abode of Shiva.

Verse 51 (shiva.shatarudra.5.51)

वैवस्वतेऽन्तरे सम्यक् प्रोक्ता हि परमात्मना । योगेश्वरावताराश्च सर्वावर्तेषु सुव्रताः

vaivasvate’ntare samyak proktā hi paramātmanā yogeśvarāvatārāśca sarvāvarteṣu suvratāḥ

Thus, in the Vaivasvata Manvantara, have the well-vowed Yogeshvara incarnations, in all the cycles, been fully told by the Supreme Self himself.

Verse 52 (shiva.shatarudra.5.52)

व्यासाश्चैवाष्टविंशत्का द्वापरे द्वापरे विभो । योगेश्वरावताराश्च प्रारम्भे च कलौ कलौ

vyāsāścaivāṣṭaviṁśatkā dvāpare dvāpare vibho yogeśvarāvatārāśca prārambhe ca kalau kalau

O mighty one! There are twenty-eight Vyasas, one in each Dvapara, and the Yogeshvara incarnations come at the beginning of each successive Kali.

Verse 53 (shiva.shatarudra.5.53)

योगेश्वरावताराणां योगमार्गप्रवर्द्धकाः । महाशैवाश्च चत्वारः शिष्याः प्रत्येकमव्ययाः

yogeśvarāvatārāṇāṁ yogamārgapravarddhakāḥ mahāśaivāśca catvāraḥ śiṣyāḥ pratyekamavyayāḥ

Of these Yogeshvara incarnations, the propagators of the path of yoga, there are, in each case, four great Shaiva disciples, imperishable.

Verse 54 (shiva.shatarudra.5.54)

एते पाशुपताः शिष्या भस्मोद्धूलितविग्रहाः । रुद्राक्षमालाभरणास्त्रिपुण्ड्राङ्कितमस्तकाः

ete pāśupatāḥ śiṣyā bhasmoddhūlitavigrahāḥ rudrākṣamālābharaṇāstripuṇḍrāṅkitamastakāḥ

These Pashupata disciples have bodies smeared with ash, are adorned with rosaries of rudraksha beads, and bear the triple horizontal mark (tripundra) on their foreheads.

Verse 55 (shiva.shatarudra.5.55)

शिष्या धर्मरताः सर्वे वेदवेदाङ्गपारगाः । लिङ्गार्चनरता नित्यं बाह्याभ्यन्तरतः स्थिताः

śiṣyā dharmaratāḥ sarve vedavedāṅgapāragāḥ liṅgārcanaratā nityaṁ bāhyābhyantarataḥ sthitāḥ

All these disciples, devoted to righteousness, accomplished in the Vedas and their limbs, ever engaged in the worship of the Linga, remain steadfast both outwardly and inwardly.

Verse 56 (shiva.shatarudra.5.56)

भक्त्या मयि च योगेन ध्याननिष्ठा जितेन्द्रियाः । सङ्ख्यया द्वादशाधिक्यशतं च गणिता बुधैः

bhaktyā mayi ca yogena dhyānaniṣṭhā jitendriyāḥ saṅkhyayā dvādaśādhikyaśataṁ ca gaṇitā budhaiḥ

Through devotion and yoga they remain fixed in meditation upon me, with senses subdued; the wise have reckoned their number as one hundred and twelve.

Verse 57 (shiva.shatarudra.5.57)

इत्येतद्वै मया प्रोक्तमवतारेषु लक्षणम् । मन्वादिकृष्णपर्यन्तमष्टाविंशद्युगक्रमात्

ityetadvai mayā proktamavatāreṣu lakṣaṇam manvādikṛṣṇaparyantamaṣṭāviṁśadyugakramāt

Thus have I described the characteristic marks of the incarnations, from the beginning of the Manvantara up to Krishna, in the sequence of the twenty-eight ages.

Verse 58 (shiva.shatarudra.5.58)

तत्र श्रुतिसमूहानां विधानं ब्रह्मलक्षणम् । भविष्यति तदा कल्पे कृष्णद्वैपायनो यदा

tatra śrutisamūhānāṁ vidhānaṁ brahmalakṣaṇam bhaviṣyati tadā kalpe kṛṣṇadvaipāyano yadā

At that time, in that kalpa, when Krishna-Dvaipayana will appear, the arrangement of the collected Vedic texts, marked by the nature of Brahman, shall come to be.

Verse 59 (shiva.shatarudra.5.59)

इत्येवमुक्त्वा ब्रह्माणमनुगृह्य महेश्वरः । पुनः सम्प्रेक्ष्य देवेशस्तत्रैवान्तरधीयत

ityevamuktvā brahmāṇamanugṛhya maheśvaraḥ punaḥ samprekṣya deveśastatraivāntaradhīyata

Having thus spoken, and bestowing his grace upon Brahma, the great Lord, the God of gods, gazing upon him once more, vanished there itself.
