śiva uvāca he hare he vidhe devā ṛṣayaścākhilā aham prasanno’smi varaṁ brūta kiṁ kāryaṁ karavāṇi vaḥ
Shiva said: O Hari, O Creator, O gods and all you sages, I am pleased; ask a boon — what shall I do for you?
Verse 57 (shiva.kotirudra.20.57)
sūta uvāca ityukte ca tadā tena śivena vacane dvijāḥ supraṇamya karau badhvā devā ūcuḥ śivaṁ tadā
Suta said: O brahmins, when Shiva had spoken thus, the gods, bowing low with joined hands, said this to Shiva.
Verse 58 (shiva.kotirudra.20.58)
devā ūcuḥ sarvaṁ jānāsi deveśa sarveṣāṁ manasi sthitam antaryāmī ca sarvasya nājñātaṁ vidyate tava
The gods said: O lord of gods, you know all, whatever is in the minds of all beings; you are the indweller of all, and nothing whatever is unknown to you.
Verse 59 (shiva.kotirudra.20.59)
tathāpi śrūyatāṁ nātha svaduḥkhaṁ brūmahe vayam tvadājñayā mahādeva kṛpādṛṣṭyā vilokaya
Even so, O lord, hear us as we tell our sorrow; O Mahadeva, look upon us with your glance of grace, at your own command.
Verse 60 (shiva.kotirudra.20.60)
rākṣasaḥ karkaṭīputraḥ kumbhakarṇodbhavo balī pīḍayatyaniśaṁ devānbrahmadattavarorjitaḥ
That demon, son of Karkati, born of Kumbhakarna, empowered by the boon given by Brahma, ceaselessly torments the gods.
Verse 61 (shiva.kotirudra.20.61)
tamimaṁ jahi bhīmāhvaṁ rākṣasaṁ duḥkhadāyakam kṛpāṁ kuru maheśāna vilambaṁ na kuru prabho
O great lord, slay this demon named Bhima, the bringer of sorrow; O lord, show us your grace and do not delay.
Verse 62 (shiva.kotirudra.20.62)
sūta uvāca ityuktastu suraiḥ sarvaiḥ śambhurvai bhaktavatsalaḥ vadhaṁ tasya kariṣyāmītyuktvā devāṁstato’bravīt
Suta said: Thus addressed by all the gods, Shambhu, who is affectionate toward his devotees, said, 'I shall kill him,' and then spoke further to the gods.
Verse 63 (shiva.kotirudra.20.63)
śambhuruvāca kāmarūpeśvaro rājā madīyo bhakta uttamaḥ tasmai brūteti vai devāḥ kāryaṁ śīghraṁ bhaviṣyati
Shambhu said: The king of Kamarupa is my excellent devotee; O gods, go and tell him that his task shall soon be accomplished.
Verse 64 (shiva.kotirudra.20.64)
sudakṣiṇa mahārāja kāmarūpeśvara prabho madbhaktastvaṁ viśeṣeṇa kuru madbhajanaṁ rateḥ
(Tell him:) O great King Sudakshina, lord of Kamarupa, you are especially my devotee; continue lovingly in devotion to me.
Verse 65 (shiva.kotirudra.20.65)
daityaṁ bhīmāhvayaṁ duṣṭaṁ brahmaprāptavarorjitam haniṣyāmi na sandehastvattiraskārakāriṇam
I shall surely slay that wicked demon Bhima, made powerful by the boon received from Brahma, who has brought you such disgrace — of this there is no doubt.
Verse 66 (shiva.kotirudra.20.66)
sūta uvāca atha te nirjarāḥ sarve tatra gatvā mudānvitāḥ tasmai mahānṛpāyocuryaduktaṁ śambhunā ca tat
Suta said: Then all those gods, filled with joy, went there and told that great king everything Shambhu had said.
Verse 67 (shiva.kotirudra.20.67)

tamityuktvā ca vai devā ānandaṁ paramaṁ gatāḥ maharṣayaśca te sarve yayuḥ śīghraṁ nijāśramān
Having told him this, the gods attained supreme joy, and all those great sages too swiftly returned to their own hermitages.
