Hearing this, the king of the gods, closing his eyes in thought, that man of great wisdom, spoke this word to Brihaspati at the fitting hour —
Verse 36 (skanda.1.51.36)

Verse 39 (skanda.1.51.39)

Verse 42 (skanda.1.51.42)
śriyā teṣāṁ ca kiṁ kāryaṁ samṛddhānāṁ tathāpi yat jātidharmeṇa cābhedyā vidhāturapi te matāḥ

Thus addressed, the thousand-eyed one said, "So be it," and, weighing what must be done, spoke in the assembly of the immortals —
Verse 46 (skanda.1.51.46)
bahumānena me vācaṁ śrṛṇudhvaṁ nākavāsinaḥ
"O dwellers of heaven, hear my word with due regard.
Verse 47 (skanda.1.51.47)
bhavaṁto yajñabhoktāraḥ satāmiṣṭāśca sāttvikāḥ svesve pade sthitā nityaṁ jagataḥ pālane ratāḥ
"You are the enjoyers of sacrifice, beloved of the virtuous, sattvic by nature, ever established each in his own office, devoted to the protection of the world.
Verse 48 (skanda.1.51.48)
bhavatāṁ ca nimittena bādhaṁte dānaveśvarāḥ teṣāṁ samādi naivāsti daṁḍa eva vidhīyatām
"And it is on your very account that the lords of the Danavas afflict the world; there is no reconciling with them — let punishment alone now be decreed.
Verse 49 (skanda.1.51.49)
