I ever bow to Vedavyasa, the learned one, bestower of vast wisdom, knowable through the Vedas and Vedangas, the best, the tranquil, one whose passions are stilled, vast with pure radiance, ever humble, the sole source knowable to the universe, son of Parashara, the Supreme Person.

What is the order of pilgrimage, which are the sacred fords, what is the procedure? What is the fruit of bathing and of charity there, O great sage? Declare all this at length, O best of speakers.
Verse 59 (skanda.2.180.59)

akāro brahma ca proktaṁ yakāro viṣṇurucyate dhakāro rudrarūpaśca ayodhyānāma rājate
The syllable A is said to be Brahma, the syllable Ya is called Vishnu, and the syllable Dha is the form of Rudra — thus the name Ayodhya shines forth.
Verse 61 (skanda.2.180.61)
sarvopapātakairyuktairbrahmahatyādipātakaiḥ nāyodhyā śakyate yasmāttāmayodhyāṁ tato viduḥ
Since it cannot be conquered even by one burdened with all lesser and greater sins beginning with the killing of a brahmin, therefore it is known as Ayodhya, the Unconquerable.
Verse 62 (skanda.2.180.62)

Verse 63 (skanda.2.180.63)

dakṣiṇottarabhāge tu sarayūtamasāvadhiḥ etatkṣetrasya saṁsthānaṁ harerantargṛhaṁ sthitam matsyākṛtiriyaṁ vipra purī viṣṇorudīritā
But on the south and north, the Sarayu and the Tamasa are its boundary. Such is the layout of this sacred field, standing as Hari's inner sanctum; this city, O brahmin, is said to have the shape of a fish.

To the east is its back, in the middle between south and north. In that city, O greatly fortunate one, Vishnu himself, under the name Hari, whose power was seen of old, also dwells there predominantly.
Verse 68 (skanda.2.180.68)
