The Description of Goloka
Verse 1 (skanda.2.205.1)
स्कन्द उवाच । मेरुशृंगं समारूढो नारदो दिव्यया दृशा । श्वेतद्वीपं च तत्रस्थान्पश्यन्मुक्तान्सहस्रशः
skanda uvāca meruśṛṁgaṁ samārūḍho nārado divyayā dṛśā śvetadvīpaṁ ca tatrasthānpaśyanmuktānsahasraśaḥ
Skanda said: Narada, having ascended the peak of Meru, with his divine sight, saw Shvetadvipa and the thousands of liberated ones dwelling there.
Verse 2 (skanda.2.205.2)
वासुदेवे भगवति दृष्टिमाबध्य तत्क्षणम् । उत्पपात महायोगी सद्यः प्राप च धाम तत्
vāsudeve bhagavati dṛṣṭimābadhya tatkṣaṇam utpapāta mahāyogī sadyaḥ prāpa ca dhāma tat
Fixing his gaze at that very moment upon the Blessed Vasudeva, the great yogi flew up, and at once reached that abode.
Verse 3 (skanda.2.205.3)
प्राप्य श्वेतं महाद्वीपं नारदो हृष्टमानसः । ददर्श भक्तांस्तानेव श्वेतांश्चन्द्रप्रभाञ्छुभान्
prāpya śvetaṁ mahādvīpaṁ nārado hṛṣṭamānasaḥ dadarśa bhaktāṁstāneva śvetāṁścandraprabhāñchubhān
Having reached the great White Island, Narada, delighted in mind, beheld those very devotees, white, of moon-like radiance, and auspicious.
Verse 4 (skanda.2.205.4)
पूजयामास शिरसा मनसा तैश्च पूजितः । दिदृक्षुर्ब्रह्म परमं स च कृच्छ्रपरः स्थितः
pūjayāmāsa śirasā manasā taiśca pūjitaḥ didṛkṣurbrahma paramaṁ sa ca kṛcchraparaḥ sthitaḥ
He worshipped them with his head bowed and in his mind, and was worshipped by them in return; and he, desiring to see the Supreme Brahman, stood there devoted to austerity.
Verse 5 (skanda.2.205.5)
भक्तमेकान्तिकं विष्णोर्बुद्ध्वा भागवतास्तु ते । तमूचुस्तुष्टमनसो जपन्तं द्वादशाक्षरम्
bhaktamekāntikaṁ viṣṇorbuddhvā bhāgavatāstu te tamūcustuṣṭamanaso japantaṁ dvādaśākṣaram
Recognizing him as a single-minded devotee of Vishnu, those Bhagavatas, pleased in mind, spoke to him as he recited the twelve-syllabled mantra.
Verse 6 (skanda.2.205.6)
श्वेतमुक्ता ऊचुः । मुनिवर्य भवान्भक्तः कृष्णस्याऽस्ति यतोऽत्र नः । दृष्टवान्देवदुर्दृश्यान्किमिच्छन्नथ तप्यति
śvetamuktā ūcuḥ munivarya bhavānbhaktaḥ kṛṣṇasyā'sti yato'tra naḥ dṛṣṭavāndevadurdṛśyānkimicchannatha tapyati
The liberated ones of Shvetadvipa said: O best of sages, since you are here a devotee of Krishna, and have seen us who are hard to see even for the gods, what do you desire, that you now practice austerity?
Verse 7 (skanda.2.205.7)
नारद उवाच । भगवन्तं परं ब्रह्म साक्षात्कृष्णमहं प्रभुम् । द्रष्टुमुत्कोऽस्मि भक्तेन्द्रास्तं दर्शयत तत्प्रियाः
nārada uvāca bhagavantaṁ paraṁ brahma sākṣātkṛṣṇamahaṁ prabhum draṣṭumutko'smi bhaktendrāstaṁ darśayata tatpriyāḥ
Narada said: I am eager to see the Blessed Lord, the Supreme Brahman, Krishna himself, the Lord — O foremost of devotees, dear to him, show him to me.
Verse 8 (skanda.2.205.8)
स्कन्द उवाच । तदैकः श्वेतमुक्तस्तु कृष्णेन प्रेरितो हृदि । एहि ते दर्शये कृष्णमित्युक्त्वा पुरतोभवत्
skanda uvāca tadaikaḥ śvetamuktastu kṛṣṇena prerito hṛdi ehi te darśaye kṛṣṇamityuktvā puratobhavat
Skanda said: Then one of the liberated ones of Shvetadvipa, inspired in his heart by Krishna, said, 'Come, I shall show you Krishna,' and went ahead of him.
Verse 9 (skanda.2.205.9)
प्रहृष्टो नारदस्तेन साकमाकाशवर्त्मना । पश्यन्धामानि देवानां तत ऊर्द्ध्वं ययौ मुनिः
prahṛṣṭo nāradastena sākamākāśavartmanā paśyandhāmāni devānāṁ tata ūrddhvaṁ yayau muniḥ
Narada, greatly delighted, went together with him by the pathway of the sky; the sage, seeing the abodes of the gods, went upward from there.
Verse 10 (skanda.2.205.10)
सप्तर्षींश्च ध्रुवं दृष्ट्वाऽनासक्तः कुत्रचित्स च । महर्जनतपोलोकान्व्यतीयाय द्विजोत्तम
saptarṣīṁśca dhruvaṁ dṛṣṭvā'nāsaktaḥ kutracitsa ca maharjanatapolokānvyatīyāya dvijottama
O best of the twice-born, having seen the Seven Sages and Dhruva, unattached anywhere, he passed beyond the worlds of Mahar, Jana, and Tapas.
Verse 11 (skanda.2.205.11)
ब्रह्मलोकं ततो दृष्ट्वा श्वेतमुक्तानुगो मुनिः । कृष्णस्यैवेच्छयाऽध्वानं प्रापाष्टावरणेष्वपि
brahmalokaṁ tato dṛṣṭvā śvetamuktānugo muniḥ kṛṣṇasyaivecchayā'dhvānaṁ prāpāṣṭāvaraṇeṣvapi
Then, having seen Brahmaloka, the sage, following the liberated one of Shvetadvipa, by the will of Krishna alone, traversed the path even through the eight coverings.
Verse 12 (skanda.2.205.12)
भूम्यप्तेजोनिलाकाशाहम्महत्प्रकृतीः क्रमात् । क्रान्त्वा दशोत्तरगुणाः प्राप गोलोकमद्भुतम्
bhūmyaptejonilākāśāhammahatprakṛtīḥ kramāt krāntvā daśottaraguṇāḥ prāpa golokamadbhutam
Having passed in order through earth, water, fire, air, ether, ego, mahat, and prakriti — each ten times greater than the one before — he reached the wondrous Goloka.
Verse 13 (skanda.2.205.13)
धाम तेजोमयं तद्धि प्राप्यमेकान्तिकैर्हरेः । गच्छन्ददर्श विततामगाधां विरजां नदीम्
dhāma tejomayaṁ taddhi prāpyamekāntikairhareḥ gacchandadarśa vitatāmagādhāṁ virajāṁ nadīm
That abode, made of light, attainable only by the single-minded devotees of Hari — going on, he saw the vast and unfathomable river Viraja.
Verse 14 (skanda.2.205.14)
गोपीगोपगणस्नानधौतचन्दनसौरभाम् । पुण्डरीकैः कोकनदै रम्यामिन्दीवरैरपि
gopīgopagaṇasnānadhautacandanasaurabhām puṇḍarīkaiḥ kokanadai ramyāmindīvarairapi
Fragrant with the sandalwood paste washed off by the bathing of the gopas and gopis, and beautiful with white lotuses, red lotuses, and blue lotuses too.
Verse 15 (skanda.2.205.15)
तस्यास्तटं मनोहारि स्फटिकाश्ममयं महत् । प्राप श्वेतहरिद्रक्तपीतसन्मणिराजितम्
tasyāstaṭaṁ manohāri sphaṭikāśmamayaṁ mahat prāpa śvetaharidraktapītasanmaṇirājitam
He reached its enchanting, vast bank made of crystal stone, resplendent with fine gems of white, yellow, red, and gold.
Verse 16 (skanda.2.205.16)
कल्पवृक्षालिभिर्ज्जुष्टं प्रवालाङ्कुरशोभितम् । स्यमन्तकेन्द्रनीलादिमणीनां खनिमण्डितम्
kalpavṛkṣālibhirjjuṣṭaṁ pravālāṅkuraśobhitam syamantakendranīlādimaṇīnāṁ khanimaṇḍitam
Furnished with rows of wish-fulfilling trees, adorned with coral sprouts, and beautified with mines of gems such as Syamantaka, sapphire, and the like.
Verse 17 (skanda.2.205.17)
नानामणीन्द्रनिचितसोपानततिशोभनम् । कूजद्भिर्मधुरं जुष्टं हंसकारण्डवादिभिः
nānāmaṇīndranicitasopānatatiśobhanam kūjadbhirmadhuraṁ juṣṭaṁ haṁsakāraṇḍavādibhiḥ
Beautiful with rows of steps set with various excellent jewels, sweetly furnished with the cooing of swans, karandava ducks, and the like.
Verse 18 (skanda.2.205.18)
वृन्दैः कामदुघानां च गजेन्द्राणां च वाजिनाम् । पिबद्भिर्न्निर्मलं तोयं राजितं स व्यतिक्रमत्
vṛndaiḥ kāmadughānāṁ ca gajendrāṇāṁ ca vājinām pibadbhirnnirmalaṁ toyaṁ rājitaṁ sa vyatikramat
He passed by that bank, resplendent with herds of wish-granting cows, elephants, and horses drinking its pure water.
Verse 19 (skanda.2.205.19)
उत्तीर्याऽथ धुनी दिव्यां तत्क्षणादीश्वरेच्छया । तद्धामपरिखाभूतां शतशृङ्गागमाप सः
uttīryā'tha dhunī divyāṁ tatkṣaṇādīśvarecchayā taddhāmaparikhābhūtāṁ śataśṛṅgāgamāpa saḥ
Then, having crossed that divine river, which forms the moat of that abode, at that very moment, by the will of the Lord, he reached Mount Shatashringa.
Verse 20 (skanda.2.205.20)
हिरण्मयं दर्शनीयं कोटियोजनमुच्छ्रितम् । विस्तारे दशकोट्यस्तु योजनानां मनोहरम्
hiraṇmayaṁ darśanīyaṁ koṭiyojanamucchritam vistāre daśakoṭyastu yojanānāṁ manoharam
That mountain, made of gold, beautiful to behold, rose ten million yojanas high, and was enchanting, one hundred million yojanas in breadth.
Verse 21 (skanda.2.205.21)
सहस्रशः कल्पवृक्षैः पारिजातादिभिर्द्रुमैः । मल्लिकायूथिकाभिश्च लवङ्गैलालतादिभिः
sahasraśaḥ kalpavṛkṣaiḥ pārijātādibhirdrumaiḥ mallikāyūthikābhiśca lavaṅgailālatādibhiḥ
With thousands of wish-fulfilling trees, trees such as the Parijata, with jasmine and yuthika flowers, and creepers of clove and cardamom.
Verse 22 (skanda.2.205.22)
स्वर्णरम्भादिभिश्चान्यैः शोभमानं महीरुहैः । दिव्यैर्मृगगणैर्न्नागैः पक्षिभिश्च सुकूजितैः
svarṇarambhādibhiścānyaiḥ śobhamānaṁ mahīruhaiḥ divyairmṛgagaṇairnnāgaiḥ pakṣibhiśca sukūjitaiḥ
Resplendent with golden plantains and other trees, with herds of divine deer, elephants, and sweetly cooing birds.
Verse 23 (skanda.2.205.23)
दुर्गायितस्य तद्धाम्नस्तस्य रम्येषु सानुषु । मनोज्ञान्विततानैक्षद्भगवद्रासमण्डपान्
durgāyitasya taddhāmnastasya ramyeṣu sānuṣu manojñānvitatānaikṣadbhagavadrāsamaṇḍapān
Upon the beautiful ridges of that fortified abode, he beheld the charming, spacious pavilions of the Lord's rasa-dance.
Verse 24 (skanda.2.205.24)
वृतानुद्यानततिभिः फुल्लपुष्पसुगन्धिभिः । कपाटै रत्ननिचितैश्चतुर्द्वारसुशोभनान्
vṛtānudyānatatibhiḥ phullapuṣpasugandhibhiḥ kapāṭai ratnanicitaiścaturdvārasuśobhanān
Surrounded by rows of gardens fragrant with blooming flowers, beautified by four gates with doors set with jewels.
Verse 25 (skanda.2.205.25)
चित्रतोरणसंपन्नै रत्नस्तम्भैः सहस्रशः । जुष्टांश्च कदलीस्तम्भैर्मुक्तालम्बैर्वितानकैः
citratoraṇasaṁpannai ratnastambhaiḥ sahasraśaḥ juṣṭāṁśca kadalīstambhairmuktālambairvitānakaiḥ
Furnished with colorful arches, with thousands of jeweled pillars, and with plantain-trunk pillars, and canopies hung with pearls.
Verse 26 (skanda.2.205.26)
दूर्वालाजाक्षतफलैर्युक्तान्माङ्गलिकैरपि । चन्दनागुरुकस्तूरीकेशरोक्षित चत्वरान्
dūrvālājākṣataphalairyuktānmāṅgalikairapi candanāgurukastūrīkeśarokṣita catvarān
Furnished with auspicious things such as durva grass, parched grain, unbroken rice, and fruits; their courtyards sprinkled with sandalwood, aloe-wood, musk, and saffron.
Verse 27 (skanda.2.205.27)
सुश्राव्यवाद्यनिनदैर्हृद्यान्बहुविधैरपि । तेषु यूथानि गोपीनां कोटिशः स ददर्श ह
suśrāvyavādyaninadairhṛdyānbahuvidhairapi teṣu yūthāni gopīnāṁ koṭiśaḥ sa dadarśa ha
Delightful with the sweet sound of many kinds of instruments — in these, he beheld tens of millions of groups of gopis.
Verse 28 (skanda.2.205.28)
अनर्घ्यवासोभूषाभिः सद्रत्नमणिकङ्कणैः । काञ्चीनूपुरकेयूरैः शोभितान्यङ्गुलीयकैः
anarghyavāsobhūṣābhiḥ sadratnamaṇikaṅkaṇaiḥ kāñcīnūpurakeyūraiḥ śobhitānyaṅgulīyakaiḥ
Adorned with priceless garments and ornaments, with fine jeweled bracelets, girdles, anklets, armlets, and beautified with rings.
Verse 29 (skanda.2.205.29)
तारुण्यरूपलावण्यैः स्वरैश्चाऽप्रतिमानि हि । राधालक्ष्मीसवर्णानि शृङ्गारिककराणि च
tāruṇyarūpalāvaṇyaiḥ svaraiścā'pratimāni hi rādhālakṣmīsavarṇāni śṛṅgārikakarāṇi ca
Incomparable in youthful beauty, grace, and voice, resembling Radha and Lakshmi in complexion, their hands engaged in acts of adornment and love.
Verse 30 (skanda.2.205.30)
भोगद्रव्यैर्बहुविधैर्मण्डपेषु युतेषु च । विलसन्ति च गायन्ति मनोज्ञाः कृष्णगीतिकाः
bhogadravyairbahuvidhairmaṇḍapeṣu yuteṣu ca vilasanti ca gāyanti manojñāḥ kṛṣṇagītikāḥ
In pavilions furnished with many kinds of enjoyable things, those enchanting ones sported and sang songs about Krishna.
Verse 31 (skanda.2.205.31)
उपत्यकासु तस्याद्रेरथ वृन्दावनाभिधम् । वनं महत्तदद्राक्षीत्सावर्णे नारदो मुनिः
upatyakāsu tasyādreratha vṛndāvanābhidham vanaṁ mahattadadrākṣītsāvarṇe nārado muniḥ
O Savarni, then, in the foothills of that mountain, the sage Narada beheld that great forest named Vrindavana.
Verse 32 (skanda.2.205.32)
कृष्णस्य राधिकायाश्च प्रियं तत्क्रीडनस्थलम् । कल्पद्रुमालिभी रम्यं सरोभिश्च सपङ्कजैः
kṛṣṇasya rādhikāyāśca priyaṁ tatkrīḍanasthalam kalpadrumālibhī ramyaṁ sarobhiśca sapaṅkajaiḥ
That beloved playground of Krishna and Radhika was beautiful with rows of wish-fulfilling trees and lotus-filled lakes.
Verse 33 (skanda.2.205.33)
आम्रैराम्रातकैर्नीपैर्बदरीभिश्च दाडिमैः । खर्जूरीपूगनारंगैर्न्नालिकेरैश्च चन्दनैः
āmrairāmrātakairnīpairbadarībhiśca dāḍimaiḥ kharjūrīpūganāraṁgairnnālikeraiśca candanaiḥ
With mango, hog-plum, and nipa trees, with jujube and pomegranate trees, with date-palm, areca, orange, coconut, and sandalwood trees.
Verse 34 (skanda.2.205.34)
जम्बूजम्बीरपनसैरक्षोदैः सुरदारुभिः । कदलीभिश्चम्पकैश्च द्राक्षाभिः स्वर्णकेतकैः
jambūjambīrapanasairakṣodaiḥ suradārubhiḥ kadalībhiścampakaiśca drākṣābhiḥ svarṇaketakaiḥ
With jambu, lemon, and jackfruit trees, with akshoda and deodar trees, with plantain, champaka, grapevine, and golden ketaki.
Verse 35 (skanda.2.205.35)
फलपुष्पभरानम्रैर्न्नानावृक्षैर्विराजितम् । मल्लिका माधवीकुन्दैर्ल्लवंगैर्यूथिकादिभिः
phalapuṣpabharānamrairnnānāvṛkṣairvirājitam mallikā mādhavīkundairllavaṁgairyūthikādibhiḥ
Resplendent with various trees bent low under the weight of fruit and flowers, with mallika, madhavi, kunda, clove, yuthika, and the like.
Verse 36 (skanda.2.205.36)
मन्दशीतसुगन्धेन सेवितं मातरिश्वना । शतशृङ्गस्नुतैरार्द्रं निर्झरैश्च समन्ततः
mandaśītasugandhena sevitaṁ mātariśvanā śataśṛṅgasnutairārdraṁ nirjharaiśca samantataḥ
Attended by the gentle, cool, fragrant wind, and moistened all around by the streams flowing down from Shatashringa.
Verse 37 (skanda.2.205.37)
सदा वसन्त शोभाढ्यं रत्नदीपालिमण्डितैः । शृङ्गारिकद्रव्ययुतैः कुञ्जैर्जुष्टमनेकशः
sadā vasanta śobhāḍhyaṁ ratnadīpālimaṇḍitaiḥ śṛṅgārikadravyayutaiḥ kuñjairjuṣṭamanekaśaḥ
Ever rich with the beauty of spring, furnished with numerous bowers adorned with rows of jeweled lamps and filled with articles of romance.
Verse 38 (skanda.2.205.38)
गोपानां गोपिकानां च कृष्णसंकीर्त्तनैर्मुहुः । गोवत्स पक्षिनिनदैर्न्नानाभूषणनिस्वनैः । दधिमन्थनशब्दैश्च सर्वतो नादितं मुने
gopānāṁ gopikānāṁ ca kṛṣṇasaṁkīrttanairmuhuḥ govatsa pakṣininadairnnānābhūṣaṇanisvanaiḥ dadhimanthanaśabdaiśca sarvato nāditaṁ mune
O sage, it resounded on every side, again and again, with the chanting of Krishna's name by gopas and gopis, with the sounds of cattle, calves, and birds, with the jingling of various ornaments, and with the sound of the churning of curd.
Verse 39 (skanda.2.205.39)
फुल्लपुष्पफलानम्रनानाद्रुमसुशोभनैः । द्वात्रिंशतवनैरन्यैर्युक्तं पश्यमनोहरैः
phullapuṣpaphalānamranānādrumasuśobhanaiḥ dvātriṁśatavanairanyairyuktaṁ paśyamanoharaiḥ
It was furnished with thirty-two other forests, enchanting to behold, beautified with various trees bent low under blooming flowers and fruit.
Verse 40 (skanda.2.205.40)
तद्वीक्ष्य हृष्टः स प्राप गोलोकपुरमुज्वलम् । वर्तुलं रत्नदुर्गं च राजमार्गोपशोभितम्
tadvīkṣya hṛṣṭaḥ sa prāpa golokapuramujvalam vartulaṁ ratnadurgaṁ ca rājamārgopaśobhitam
Having seen that, delighted, he reached the radiant city of Goloka, circular, fortified with jewels, and beautified with royal roadways.
Verse 41 (skanda.2.205.41)
राजितं कृष्णभक्तानां विमानैः कोटिभिस्तथा । रथै रत्नेन्द्रखचितैः किंकिणीजालशोभितैः
rājitaṁ kṛṣṇabhaktānāṁ vimānaiḥ koṭibhistathā rathai ratnendrakhacitaiḥ kiṁkiṇījālaśobhitaiḥ
Resplendent with tens of millions of the celestial cars of Krishna's devotees, and with chariots inlaid with the finest jewels, adorned with networks of small bells.
Verse 42 (skanda.2.205.42)
महामणीन्द्रनिकरै रत्नस्तम्भालिमण्डितैः । अद्भुतैः कोटिशः सौधैः पंक्तिसंस्थैर्मनोहरम्
mahāmaṇīndranikarai ratnastambhālimaṇḍitaiḥ adbhutaiḥ koṭiśaḥ saudhaiḥ paṁktisaṁsthairmanoharam
Enchanting with tens of millions of wondrous mansions, standing in rows, adorned with masses of great jewels and rows of jeweled pillars.
Verse 43 (skanda.2.205.43)
विलासमण्डपै रम्यै रत्नसारविनिर्मितः । रत्नेन्द्रदीपततिभिः शोभनं रत्नवेदिभिः
vilāsamaṇḍapai ramyai ratnasāravinirmitaḥ ratnendradīpatatibhiḥ śobhanaṁ ratnavedibhiḥ
Made of the finest jewels, with charming pleasure-pavilions, beautiful with rows of the finest jewel-lamps and jeweled altars.
Verse 44 (skanda.2.205.44)
केसरागुरुकस्तूरीकुंकुमद्रवचर्चितम् । दधिदूर्वालाजपूगै रम्भाभिः शोभिताङ्गणम्
kesarāgurukastūrīkuṁkumadravacarcitam dadhidūrvālājapūgai rambhābhiḥ śobhitāṅgaṇam
Anointed with liquid saffron, aloe-wood, musk, and vermilion; its courtyards beautified with curd, durva grass, parched grain, areca-nut, and plantains.
Verse 45 (skanda.2.205.45)
वारिपूर्णैर्हेमघटैस्तोरणैः कृतमंगलम् । मणिकुट्टिमराजाध्वचलद्भूरिगजाश्वकम्
vāripūrṇairhemaghaṭaistoraṇaiḥ kṛtamaṁgalam maṇikuṭṭimarājādhvacaladbhūrigajāśvakam
Made auspicious with golden pots full of water and festive arches; its royal roads, paved with jewels, thronged with moving elephants and horses in abundance.
Verse 46 (skanda.2.205.46)
श्रीकृष्णदर्शनायातैर्न्नैकब्रह्माण्डनायकैः । विरिञ्चिशंकराद्यैश्च बलिहस्तैः सुसंकुलम्
śrīkṛṣṇadarśanāyātairnnaikabrahmāṇḍanāyakaiḥ viriñciśaṁkarādyaiśca balihastaiḥ susaṁkulam
Thronged with the lords of countless universes, come there for the sight of Shri Krishna, headed by Brahma and Shankara, offerings in hand.
Verse 47 (skanda.2.205.47)
व्रजद्भिः कृष्णवीक्षाथ गोपगोपीकदम्बकैः । सुसंकुलमहामार्गं मुमोदालोक्य तन्मुनिः
vrajadbhiḥ kṛṣṇavīkṣātha gopagopīkadambakaiḥ susaṁkulamahāmārgaṁ mumodālokya tanmuniḥ
Its great roads thronged with crowds of gopas and gopis moving about for the sight of Krishna — beholding this, that sage rejoiced.
Verse 48 (skanda.2.205.48)
कृष्णमन्दिरमापाऽथ सर्वाश्चर्यं मनोहरम् । नन्दादिवृषभान्वादिगोपसौधालिभिर्वृतम्
kṛṣṇamandiramāpā'tha sarvāścaryaṁ manoharam nandādivṛṣabhānvādigopasaudhālibhirvṛtam
Then he reached Krishna's palace, wholly wondrous and enchanting, surrounded by rows of mansions belonging to Nanda and the other cowherds of the Vrishabhanu lineage and the rest.
Verse 49 (skanda.2.205.49)
चतुर्द्वारैः षोडशभिर्दुर्गैः सपरिखैर्युतम् । कोटिगोपवृतैकैकद्वारपालसुरक्षितैः
caturdvāraiḥ ṣoḍaśabhirdurgaiḥ saparikhairyutam koṭigopavṛtaikaikadvārapālasurakṣitaiḥ
Furnished with four gates and sixteen fortifications along with moats, each gate well-protected by gatekeepers surrounded by tens of millions of cowherds.
Verse 50 (skanda.2.205.50)
रत्नस्तम्भकपाटेषु द्वार्षु स्वाग्रस्थितेषु सः । उपविष्टान्क्रमेणैव द्वारपालान्ददर्श ह
ratnastambhakapāṭeṣu dvārṣu svāgrasthiteṣu saḥ upaviṣṭānkrameṇaiva dvārapālāndadarśa ha
At the gates, with their doors of jeweled pillars, positioned each at its own front, he beheld, one after another in order, the gatekeepers seated there.
Verse 51 (skanda.2.205.51)
वीरभानुं चन्द्रभानुं सूर्यभानुं तृतीयकम् । वसुभानुं देवभानुं शक्रभानुं ततः परम्
vīrabhānuṁ candrabhānuṁ sūryabhānuṁ tṛtīyakam vasubhānuṁ devabhānuṁ śakrabhānuṁ tataḥ param
Virabhanu, Chandrabhanu, and thirdly Suryabhanu; Vasubhanu, Devabhanu, and after that Shakrabhanu —

रत्नभानुं सुपार्श्वं च विशालमृषभं ततः । अंशुं बलं च सुबलं देवप्रस्थं वरूथपम्
ratnabhānuṁ supārśvaṁ ca viśālamṛṣabhaṁ tataḥ aṁśuṁ balaṁ ca subalaṁ devaprasthaṁ varūthapam
Ratnabhanu, and Suparshva, and then Vishala, and Rishabha; Amshu, Bala, and Subala, Devaprastha, and Varuthapa —
Verse 53 (skanda.2.205.53)
श्रीदामानं च नत्वाऽसौ प्रविष्टोंतस्तदाज्ञया । महाचतुष्के वितते तेजोऽपश्यन्महोच्चयम्
śrīdāmānaṁ ca natvā'sau praviṣṭoṁtastadājñayā mahācatuṣke vitate tejo'paśyanmahoccayam
And having bowed to Shridama, he entered within, by his permission; and in the vast great courtyard he saw a great mass of light.
