Verse 1 (skanda.2.216.1)

श्रीनारायण उवाच । खननोक्षणलेपाद्यैः शोधिते धरणीतले । चतुष्पादं न्यसेत्पीठं नानारङ्गसुशोभिते

śrīnārāyaṇa uvāca | khananokṣaṇalepādyaiḥ śodhite dharaṇītale | catuṣpādaṁ nyasetpīṭhaṁ nānāraṅgasuśobhite

Sri Narayana said: On a plot of ground purified by digging, sprinkling, plastering, and the like, and adorned with various colours, one should set up a four-legged pedestal.

Verse 2 (skanda.2.216.2)

अर्चकः प्राङ्मुखः पीठपादान्कोणेषु कारयेत् । चतुर्षु तेषु धर्मादीन्स्थापयेत्सिंहरूपिणः

arcakaḥ prāṅmukhaḥ pīṭhapādānkoṇeṣu kārayet | caturṣu teṣu dharmādīnsthāpayetsiṁharūpiṇaḥ

The worshipper, facing east, should have the legs of the pedestal made at its corners; on these four he should place the four beginning with Dharma, in lion form.

Verse 3 (skanda.2.216.3)

अग्नौ धर्मं न्यसेच्छ्वेतं ज्ञानं शोणं च नैर्ऋते । वायौ तु पीतं वैराग्यं श्याममैश्वर्यमैशके

agnau dharmaṁ nyasecchvetaṁ jñānaṁ śoṇaṁ ca nairṛte | vāyau tu pītaṁ vairāgyaṁ śyāmamaiśvaryamaiśake

In the south-east he should place white Dharma; in the south-west, red Jnana; in the north-west, yellow Vairagya; and in the north-east, dark Aishvarya.

Verse 4 (skanda.2.216.4)

मनोधीचित्ताहङ्कारान्क्रमात्पूर्वादिदिक्ष्वऽथ । विन्यसेत्पीठगात्रेषु हरिद्रक्तसितासितान्

manodhīcittāhaṅkārānkramātpūrvādidikṣva'tha | vinyasetpīṭhagātreṣu haridraktasitāsitān

Then, on the sides of the pedestal, beginning from the east in order, he should place Manas, Dhi, Chitta, and Ahamkara, coloured yellow, red, white, and black.

Verse 5 (skanda.2.216.5)

स्थाप्या रक्तसितश्यामा रजःसत्त्वतमोगुणाः । पीठस्य पट्टिकायां तु त्रयोपि मुनिसत्तम

sthāpyā raktasitaśyāmā rajaḥsattvatamoguṇāḥ | pīṭhasya paṭṭikāyāṁ tu trayopi munisattama

O best of sages, the three qualities — Rajas, Sattva, and Tamas — should be placed, coloured red, white, and dark, upon the rim of the pedestal.

Verse 6 (skanda.2.216.6)

अन्तःकरणरूपेषु गात्रेष्वथ चतुर्ष्वपि । विमलाद्या न्यसेच्छक्तीर्द्वेद्वे एकैकगात्रके

antaḥkaraṇarūpeṣu gātreṣvatha caturṣvapi | vimalādyā nyasecchaktīrdvedve ekaikagātrake

Then, on these four sides representing the inner faculties, he should place the Shaktis beginning with Vimala, two on each side.

Verse 7 (skanda.2.216.7)

विमलोत्कर्षिणीति द्वे गौराङ्ग्यौ पूर्वतो न्यसेत् । वादयन्त्यौ शुभां वीणां हरिद्वस्त्रे स्वलंकृते

vimalotkarṣiṇīti dve gaurāṅgyau pūrvato nyaset | vādayantyau śubhāṁ vīṇāṁ haridvastre svalaṁkṛte

Vimala and Utkarshini, both fair-limbed, wearing yellow garments and well adorned, playing the auspicious vina, should be placed in the east.

Verse 8 (skanda.2.216.8)

ज्ञानाक्रिये न्यसेद्याम्ये पीतवस्त्रेऽरुणद्युती । एका तालं वादयन्ती मृदङ्गमपरा तथा

jñānākriye nyasedyāmye pītavastre'ruṇadyutī | ekā tālaṁ vādayantī mṛdaṅgamaparā tathā

Jnana and Kriya, wearing yellow garments, of ruddy radiance, should be placed in the south — one playing cymbals, the other the mridanga drum.

Verse 9 (skanda.2.216.9)

योगाप्रद्ध्यौ न्यसेत्पश्चाच्छ्यामे अरुणवाससौ । सहेव मुरली चोभे वादयन्त्यौ पृथक्पृथक्

yogāpraddhyau nyasetpaścācchyāme aruṇavāsasau | saheva muralī cobhe vādayantyau pṛthakpṛthak

Yoga and Prada, both dark-hued, wearing red garments, should be placed in the west, both playing the flute together, each separately.

Verse 10 (skanda.2.216.10)

सत्येशाने हेमवर्णे उत्तरस्यां ततो न्यसेत् । श्यामांशुके वादयन्त्यावुभे ते परिवादिनीम्

satyeśāne hemavarṇe uttarasyāṁ tato nyaset | śyāmāṁśuke vādayantyāvubhe te parivādinīm

Satya and Ishana, golden-hued, wearing dark garments, should then be placed in the north, both playing the parivadini vina.

Verse 11 (skanda.2.216.11)

अनुग्रहाख्या पट्टिकायां स्थाप्यैका च कृताञ्जलिः । सर्वा एतास्तु कर्तव्या द्विभुजाः सुविभूषणाः

anugrahākhyā paṭṭikāyāṁ sthāpyaikā ca kṛtāñjaliḥ | sarvā etāstu kartavyā dvibhujāḥ suvibhūṣaṇāḥ

On the rim, one Shakti named Anugraha should be placed, with joined palms; all these should be made two-armed and richly adorned.

Verse 12 (skanda.2.216.12)

पीठोपरि सितद्वीपं कुर्वीत श्वेतवाससा । तन्मध्येऽष्टदलं पद्मं कुर्वीतोज्वलकर्णिकम्

pīṭhopari sitadvīpaṁ kurvīta śvetavāsasā | tanmadhye'ṣṭadalaṁ padmaṁ kurvītojvalakarṇikam

Upon the pedestal he should make a white island with a white cloth; in its middle he should draw an eight-petalled lotus with a bright pericarp.

Verse 13 (skanda.2.216.13)

द्वादशांशं परित्यज्य पद्मक्षेत्रस्य बाह्यतः । वृत्तैस्त्रिभिस्तस्य मध्यं विभजेत्समभागतः

dvādaśāṁśaṁ parityajya padmakṣetrasya bāhyataḥ | vṛttaistribhistasya madhyaṁ vibhajetsamabhāgataḥ

Leaving aside a twelfth part on the outside of the lotus's area, he should divide its middle into equal portions by three concentric circles.

Verse 14 (skanda.2.216.14)

तत्राद्यं कर्णिकास्थानं केसराणां तु मध्यमम् । पत्राणां तु तृतीयं स्याद्दलाग्राणि तु बाह्यतः

tatrādyaṁ karṇikāsthānaṁ kesarāṇāṁ tu madhyamam | patrāṇāṁ tu tṛtīyaṁ syāddalāgrāṇi tu bāhyataḥ

Of these, the first is the place of the pericarp; the middle one is for the filaments; the third is for the petals; and the petal-tips are outside that.

Verse 15 (skanda.2.216.15)

परितस्तस्य च पुरं चतुर्द्वारं प्रकल्पयेत् । रङ्गद्रव्यैर्बहुविधैर्हरिद्राकुंकुमादिभिः

paritastasya ca puraṁ caturdvāraṁ prakalpayet | raṅgadravyairbahuvidhairharidrākuṁkumādibhiḥ

All around it he should design a four-gated city, using many kinds of colouring substances such as turmeric and vermilion.

Verse 16 (skanda.2.216.16)

कुर्वीत तण्डुलैर्वापि तत्र पद्मादि शोभनम् । पद्मस्य कर्णिकां मध्ये हेमवर्णा सुशोभयेत्

kurvīta taṇḍulairvāpi tatra padmādi śobhanam | padmasya karṇikāṁ madhye hemavarṇā suśobhayet

Or he may make the beautiful lotus and the rest there with rice grains; he should adorn the pericarp of the lotus in the middle with a golden hue.

Verse 17 (skanda.2.216.17)

शोणवर्णानि पत्राणि परितस्तस्य चार्चकः । कुर्यादष्टाप्यष्टदिक्षु स्वर्णवर्णानि वा मुने

śoṇavarṇāni patrāṇi paritastasya cārcakaḥ | kuryādaṣṭāpyaṣṭadikṣu svarṇavarṇāni vā mune

O sage, the worshipper should make the eight petals around it red, or in the eight directions, of a golden hue.

Verse 18 (skanda.2.216.18)

पूर्वं तु गोपुरं शोणं श्यामं कुर्याच्च दक्षिणम् । पीतवर्णं पश्चिमं च स्फटिकाभं तथोत्तरम्

pūrvaṁ tu gopuraṁ śoṇaṁ śyāmaṁ kuryācca dakṣiṇam | pītavarṇaṁ paścimaṁ ca sphaṭikābhaṁ tathottaram

The eastern gate-tower should be red; the southern should be made dark; the western, yellow; and the northern, of crystal hue.

Verse 19 (skanda.2.216.19)

अन्तराले च पुष्पाणि चित्राणि पुरपद्मयोः । कृत्वा मध्येऽथ श्रीकृष्णं तद्वामे राधिकां न्यसेत्

antarāle ca puṣpāṇi citrāṇi purapadmayoḥ | kṛtvā madhye'tha śrīkṛṣṇaṁ tadvāme rādhikāṁ nyaset

Having made varied flowers in the space between the city and the lotus, he should then place Sri Krishna in the middle, and Radhika on His left.

Verse 20 (skanda.2.216.20)

राधाकृष्णस्यास्य ततः पृष्ठे संकर्षणं न्यसेत् । चतुर्बाहुं धृतच्छत्रं गौराङ्गं नीलवाससम्

rādhākṛṣṇasyāsya tataḥ pṛṣṭhe saṁkarṣaṇaṁ nyaset | caturbāhuṁ dhṛtacchatraṁ gaurāṅgaṁ nīlavāsasam

Then, behind this Radha-Krishna, he should place Sankarshana, four-armed, holding a parasol, fair of limb, clad in blue garments.

Verse 21 (skanda.2.216.21)

दक्षे न्यसेद्भगवतः प्रद्युम्नं पीतवाससम् । चतुर्भुजं घनश्यामं धृत्वा चामरमास्थितम्

dakṣe nyasedbhagavataḥ pradyumnaṁ pītavāsasam | caturbhujaṁ ghanaśyāmaṁ dhṛtvā cāmaramāsthitam

On the right of the Lord he should place Pradyumna, clad in yellow, four-armed, dark as a rain-cloud, holding a chowrie.

Verse 22 (skanda.2.216.22)

वामेऽनिरुद्धं च हरेर्न्यसेदरुणवाससम् । इन्द्रनीलमणिश्यामं संस्थितं धृतचामरम्

vāme'niruddhaṁ ca harernyasedaruṇavāsasam | indranīlamaṇiśyāmaṁ saṁsthitaṁ dhṛtacāmaram

On the left of Hari he should place Aniruddha, clad in red garments, dark as a sapphire, standing and holding a chowrie.

Verse 23 (skanda.2.216.23)

त्रयोप्येते तु कर्तव्या नानालंकारशोभिताः । अनर्घ्यरत्नमुकुटास्तारुण्येन मनोहराः

trayopyete tu kartavyā nānālaṁkāraśobhitāḥ | anarghyaratnamukuṭāstāruṇyena manoharāḥ

All three of these should be made resplendent with various ornaments, with crowns of priceless gems, charming in their youthfulness.

Verse 24 (skanda.2.216.24)

ततोऽवतारांस्तु हरेः केसरेष्वष्टसु क्रमात् । एकैकस्मिन्न्यसेद् द्वौद्वावष्टस्वेवं हि षोडश

tato'vatārāṁstu hareḥ kesareṣvaṣṭasu kramāt | ekaikasminnyased dvaudvāvaṣṭasvevaṁ hi ṣoḍaśa

Then, on the eight filament-clusters in order, he should place the incarnations of Hari, two on each of the eight — sixteen in all.

Verse 25 (skanda.2.216.25)

स्थापयेद्वामनं बुद्धं पूर्वस्मिन्केसरेऽग्रतः । घनश्यामावुभौ ह्येतौ करुणौ ब्रह्मचारिणौ

sthāpayedvāmanaṁ buddhaṁ pūrvasminkesare'grataḥ | ghanaśyāmāvubhau hyetau karuṇau brahmacāriṇau

He should place Vamana and Buddha on the eastern filament-cluster, in front; both dark as rain-clouds, compassionate, and celibate students.

Verse 26 (skanda.2.216.26)

सितांशुकौ करे दक्षे बिभ्रतौ फुल्लपङ्कजम् । अभयं वामहस्ते च शान्तौ यज्ञोपवीतिनौ

sitāṁśukau kare dakṣe bibhratau phullapaṅkajam | abhayaṁ vāmahaste ca śāntau yajñopavītinau

Both clad in white garments, holding a full-blown lotus in the right hand and displaying the fearlessness gesture with the left, peaceful, and wearing the sacred thread.

Verse 27 (skanda.2.216.27)

कल्किनं पर्शुरामं च वह्निकोणेऽथ विन्यसेत् । खङ्गपाणिस्तत्र कल्की पर्शुपाणिस्तथाऽपरः

kalkinaṁ parśurāmaṁ ca vahnikoṇe'tha vinyaset | khaṅgapāṇistatra kalkī parśupāṇistathā'paraḥ

Then in the south-east corner he should place Kalki and Parashurama; there Kalki holds a sword in hand, and the other holds an axe.

Verse 28 (skanda.2.216.28)

उभौ गौरौ च ताम्राक्षौ जटिलौ सितवाससौ । यज्ञोपवीतिनौ कार्यौ त्यक्तक्रोधमहारयौ

ubhau gaurau ca tāmrākṣau jaṭilau sitavāsasau | yajñopavītinau kāryau tyaktakrodhamahārayau

Both should be made fair-complexioned, copper-eyed, matted-haired, clad in white, wearing the sacred thread, and free of great anger and enmity.

Verse 29 (skanda.2.216.29)

हयग्रीववराहौ च स्थापयेद्याम्यकेसरे । हयग्रीवो हयास्यः स्यान्नरांगश्च चतुर्भुजः

hayagrīvavarāhau ca sthāpayedyāmyakesare | hayagrīvo hayāsyaḥ syānnarāṁgaśca caturbhujaḥ

He should place Hayagriva and Varaha on the southern filament-cluster; Hayagriva should have a horse's face, a human body, and four arms.

Verse 30 (skanda.2.216.30)

शङ्खादिभृत्स्वर्णवर्णो धृतदिव्यसिताम्बरः । वराहस्तु वराहास्यो नरांगः स्याच्चतुर्भुजः

śaṅkhādibhṛtsvarṇavarṇo dhṛtadivyasitāmbaraḥ | varāhastu varāhāsyo narāṁgaḥ syāccaturbhujaḥ

Bearing the conch and the rest, of golden hue, clad in divine white garments; Varaha should have a boar's face, a human body, and four arms.

Verse 31 (skanda.2.216.31)

शङ्खचक्रगदाब्जानि दधत्पीताम्बरं तथा । मधुपिंगलवर्णश्च कर्त्तव्यो द्विभुजोऽथ वा

śaṅkhacakragadābjāni dadhatpītāmbaraṁ tathā | madhupiṁgalavarṇaśca karttavyo dvibhujo'tha vā

Holding the conch, discus, mace, and lotus, clad in yellow, of a tawny hue like honey — or he may be made two-armed instead.

Verse 32 (skanda.2.216.32)

मत्स्यकूर्म्मौ नैर्ऋते च स्थापयेत्केसरे ततः । कटेरधस्तदाकारावूर्द्ध्वं तौ तु नराकृती

matsyakūrmmau nairṛte ca sthāpayetkesare tataḥ | kaṭeradhastadākārāvūrddhvaṁ tau tu narākṛtī

Then he should place Matsya and Kurma on the south-western filament-cluster; below the waist they have their fish/tortoise form, but above they have a human form.

Verse 33 (skanda.2.216.33)

वामे शंखं गदां दक्षे पाणौ च दधतावुभौ । श्यामसुन्दरदेहौ च कर्त्तव्यौ धृतभूषणौ

vāme śaṁkhaṁ gadāṁ dakṣe pāṇau ca dadhatāvubhau | śyāmasundaradehau ca karttavyau dhṛtabhūṣaṇau

Both should hold the conch in the left hand and the mace in the right, their bodies dark and beautiful, adorned with ornaments.

Verse 34 (skanda.2.216.34)

धन्वन्तरिं नृसिंहं च पश्चिमे केसरे न्यसेत् । धन्वन्तरिः शुक्लवासा गौरांगोऽमृतकुम्भधृत्

dhanvantariṁ nṛsiṁhaṁ ca paścime kesare nyaset | dhanvantariḥ śuklavāsā gaurāṁgo'mṛtakumbhadhṛt

He should place Dhanvantari and Narasimha on the western filament-cluster; Dhanvantari, clad in white, fair-limbed, holding a pot of nectar.

Verse 35 (skanda.2.216.35)

सिंहवक्त्रो नृसिंहस्तु नृदेहः केसरान्वितः । नीलोत्पलाभो द्विभुजो गदाचक्रधरो भवेत

siṁhavaktro nṛsiṁhastu nṛdehaḥ kesarānvitaḥ | nīlotpalābho dvibhujo gadācakradharo bhaveta

Narasimha should have a lion's face, a human body with a mane, be dark-blue like a lotus, two-armed, and bear the mace and discus.

Verse 36 (skanda.2.216.36)

वायौ न्यसेदुभौ हंसदत्तात्रेयौ जटाधरौ । योगिवेषौ सितौ दण्डकमण्डलुकरौ तथा

vāyau nyasedubhau haṁsadattātreyau jaṭādharau | yogiveṣau sitau daṇḍakamaṇḍalukarau tathā

In the north-west he should place both Hamsa and Dattatreya, matted-haired, in the garb of yogis, white, and holding a staff and water-pot in hand.

Verse 37 (skanda.2.216.37)

उत्तरे केसरे व्यासं न्यसेद्गणपतिं ततः । तत्र व्यासो विशालाक्षः कृष्णवर्णः सिताम्बरः

uttare kesare vyāsaṁ nyasedgaṇapatiṁ tataḥ | tatra vyāso viśālākṣaḥ kṛṣṇavarṇaḥ sitāmbaraḥ

On the northern filament-cluster he should place Vyasa and Ganapati; there Vyasa should be large-eyed, dark-hued, clad in white.

Verse 38 (skanda.2.216.38)

द्विभुजो धृतवेदश्च सुपिशंगजटाधरः । सितयज्ञोपवीतश्च कर्त्तव्यः सपवित्रकः

dvibhujo dhṛtavedaśca supiśaṁgajaṭādharaḥ | sitayajñopavītaśca karttavyaḥ sapavitrakaḥ

Two-armed, holding the Vedas, with beautiful tawny matted hair, wearing a white sacred thread and a pavitraka.

Verse 39 (skanda.2.216.39)

गजास्य एकदन्तश्च रक्तो गणपतिर्भवेत् । रक्ताम्बरधरश्चैव नागयज्ञोपवीतवान्

gajāsya ekadantaśca rakto gaṇapatirbhavet | raktāmbaradharaścaiva nāgayajñopavītavān

Ganapati should have an elephant's face and a single tusk, be red, clad in red garments, and wear a serpent as the sacred thread.

Verse 40 (skanda.2.216.40)

तुन्दिलश्च चतुर्बाहुः पाशाङ्कुशवरान्दधत् । करेणैकेन च दधद्रम्यां पुस्तकलेखिनीम्

tundilaśca caturbāhuḥ pāśāṅkuśavarāndadhat | kareṇaikena ca dadhadramyāṁ pustakalekhinīm

Pot-bellied, four-armed, holding the noose, the goad, and a boon-bestowing hand, and with one hand holding a lovely book and a pen.

Verse 41 (skanda.2.216.41)

न्यसेत्केसर ईशाने कपिलं पूजकस्ततः । सनत्कुमारं च मुनिं नैष्ठिकब्रह्मचारिणम्

nyasetkesara īśāne kapilaṁ pūjakastataḥ | sanatkumāraṁ ca muniṁ naiṣṭhikabrahmacāriṇam

Then the worshipper should place, on the north-eastern filament-cluster, Kapila and the sage Sanatkumara, a lifelong celibate student.

Verse 42 (skanda.2.216.42)

शुक्लांगः कपिलः कार्यो धृतचारुसिताम्बरः । दधत्कराभ्यामम्भोजमभयं शान्तविग्रहम्

śuklāṁgaḥ kapilaḥ kāryo dhṛtacārusitāmbaraḥ | dadhatkarābhyāmambhojamabhayaṁ śāntavigraham

Kapila should be made fair-limbed, wearing beautiful white garments, holding a lotus in one hand and displaying fearlessness with the other, of a peaceful form.

Verse 43 (skanda.2.216.43)

पञ्चवार्षिकबालाभो दिग्वस्त्रोऽल्पजटाधरः । सनत्कुमारश्च मुनिः कर्त्तव्यः पूजकेन तु

pañcavārṣikabālābho digvastro'lpajaṭādharaḥ | sanatkumāraśca muniḥ karttavyaḥ pūjakena tu

The sage Sanatkumara should be made by the worshipper as resembling a five-year-old child, clad only in the directions, with a small amount of matted hair.

Verse 44 (skanda.2.216.44)

संस्थाप्य केसरेष्वित्थं देवताः पङ्कजस्य तु । न्यसेच्च दलमध्येषु पार्षदानर्च्चकोऽष्टसु

saṁsthāpya kesareṣvitthaṁ devatāḥ paṅkajasya tu | nyasecca dalamadhyeṣu pārṣadānarccako'ṣṭasu

Having thus placed the deities on the filament-clusters of the lotus, the worshipper should then place the attendant deities in the middle of the eight petals.

Verse 45 (skanda.2.216.45)

विष्वक्सेनं च गरुडं तत्रादौ पूर्वतो न्यसेत् । ततो दक्षक्रमेणैव प्रबलं च बलं न्यसेत्

viṣvaksenaṁ ca garuḍaṁ tatrādau pūrvato nyaset | tato dakṣakrameṇaiva prabalaṁ ca balaṁ nyaset

First he should place Vishvaksena and Garuda there in the east; then, proceeding to the right in order, he should place Prabala and Bala.

Verse 46 (skanda.2.216.46)

कुमुदं कुमुदाक्षं च सुनन्दं नन्दमेव च । श्रुतदेवं जयन्तं च विन्यसेद्विजयं जयम्

kumudaṁ kumudākṣaṁ ca sunandaṁ nandameva ca | śrutadevaṁ jayantaṁ ca vinyasedvijayaṁ jayam

Then he should place Kumuda and Kumudaksha, Sunanda and Nanda, Shrutadeva and Jayanta, and Vijaya and Jaya.

Verse 47 (skanda.2.216.47)

ततः प्रचण्डं चण्डं च पुष्पदन्तं च सात्वतम् । द्वौद्वावेवं क्रमेणैव स्थानेष्वष्टसु विन्यसेत्

tataḥ pracaṇḍaṁ caṇḍaṁ ca puṣpadantaṁ ca sātvatam | dvaudvāvevaṁ krameṇaiva sthāneṣvaṣṭasu vinyaset

Then Prachanda and Chanda, and Pushpadanta and Satvata — thus, two by two in order, he should place them in the eight positions.

Verse 48 (skanda.2.216.48)

चतुर्भुजाः सर्व एते शङ्खार्यब्जगदाधराः । कार्याः किरिटिनः श्यामाः पीतवस्त्राः सुभूषणाः

caturbhujāḥ sarva ete śaṅkhāryabjagadādharāḥ | kāryāḥ kiriṭinaḥ śyāmāḥ pītavastrāḥ subhūṣaṇāḥ

All these should be made four-armed, bearing the conch, discus, lotus, and mace, crowned, dark-hued, clad in yellow, well adorned.

Verse 49 (skanda.2.216.49)

दलमध्यान्तरालेषु सिद्धीरष्टसु विन्यसेत् । नाना मंगलवाद्यानां वादने निपुणाः क्रमात्

dalamadhyāntarāleṣu siddhīraṣṭasu vinyaset | nānā maṁgalavādyānāṁ vādane nipuṇāḥ kramāt

In the spaces between the middles of the petals, he should place the eight Siddhis in order, each skilled in playing various auspicious instruments.

Verse 50 (skanda.2.216.50)

अणिमा लघिमा प्राप्तिः प्राकाम्यं महिमा तथा । ईशिता वशिता चैवाष्टमी कामावसायिता

aṇimā laghimā prāptiḥ prākāmyaṁ mahimā tathā | īśitā vaśitā caivāṣṭamī kāmāvasāyitā

Anima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamya, and likewise Mahima; Ishita and Vashita, and the eighth, Kamavasayita.

Verse 51 (skanda.2.216.51)

एताः सुवर्णवर्णाभाः सर्वाभरणभूषिताः । वेणुवीणादिहस्ताश्च कर्त्तव्याश्चित्रवाससः

etāḥ suvarṇavarṇābhāḥ sarvābharaṇabhūṣitāḥ | veṇuvīṇādihastāśca karttavyāścitravāsasaḥ

These should be made of a golden hue, adorned with every ornament, holding flutes, vinas, and the like in their hands, and clad in colourful garments.

Verse 52 (skanda.2.216.52)

दलाग्रेष्वष्टसु ततो वेदाञ्छास्त्राणि च न्यसेत् । तत्र वेदान्न्यसेद्दिक्षु शास्त्राणि तु विदिक्षु सः

dalāgreṣvaṣṭasu tato vedāñchāstrāṇi ca nyaset | tatra vedānnyaseddikṣu śāstrāṇi tu vidikṣu saḥ

Then, on the eight petal-tips, he should place the Vedas and the other scriptures; he should place the Vedas in the cardinal directions and the scriptures in the intermediate ones.

Verse 53 (skanda.2.216.53)

पूर्वे न्यसेत्तु ऋग्वेदमक्षमालाधरं सितम् । खर्वं लम्बोदरं सौम्यं पद्मनेत्रं सिताम्बरम्

pūrve nyasettu ṛgvedamakṣamālādharaṁ sitam | kharvaṁ lambodaraṁ saumyaṁ padmanetraṁ sitāmbaram

In the east he should place the Rigveda, holding a rosary, white, of short stature, pot-bellied, gentle, lotus-eyed, clad in white.

Verse 54 (skanda.2.216.54)

याम्ये न्यसेद्यजुर्वेदं मध्यमांगं कृशोदरम् । पिंगाक्षं स्थूलकण्ठं च पीतं चारुणवाससम्

yāmye nyasedyajurvedaṁ madhyamāṁgaṁ kṛśodaram | piṁgākṣaṁ sthūlakaṇṭhaṁ ca pītaṁ cāruṇavāsasam

In the south he should place the Yajurveda, of medium build, slender-waisted, tawny-eyed, thick-necked, yellow-hued, clad in beautiful red garments.

Verse 55 (skanda.2.216.55)

अक्षस्रजं करे वामे दक्षे वज्रं च बिभ्रतम् । पश्चिमे सामवेदं च प्रांशुमादित्यवर्चसम्

akṣasrajaṁ kare vāme dakṣe vajraṁ ca bibhratam | paścime sāmavedaṁ ca prāṁśumādityavarcasam

Holding a rosary in the left hand and a thunderbolt in the right; in the west he should place the Samaveda, of tall stature, with the radiance of the sun.

Verse 56 (skanda.2.216.56)

दक्षेऽक्षमालां वामे च धृतवन्तं करे दरम् । स्वर्णवस्त्रं विशालाक्षं विन्यसेद्गायनोद्यतम्

dakṣe'kṣamālāṁ vāme ca dhṛtavantaṁ kare daram | svarṇavastraṁ viśālākṣaṁ vinyasedgāyanodyatam

Holding a rosary in the right hand and a conch in the left, clad in golden garments, large-eyed, ever ready to sing — thus he should place him.

Verse 57 (skanda.2.216.57)

अथर्वाणं न्यसेत्सौम्ये सितांगं नीलवाससम् । वामेऽक्षसूत्रं दक्षे च खट्वांगं बिभ्रतं करे । वह्न्योजसं च ताम्राक्षं वयसा स्थविरं तथा

atharvāṇaṁ nyasetsaumye sitāṁgaṁ nīlavāsasam | vāme'kṣasūtraṁ dakṣe ca khaṭvāṁgaṁ bibhrataṁ kare | vahnyojasaṁ ca tāmrākṣaṁ vayasā sthaviraṁ tathā

In the north he should place the Atharva, white-limbed, clad in blue, holding a rosary in the left hand and a skull-staff in the right, fiery in vigour, copper-eyed, and advanced in age.

Verse 58 (skanda.2.216.58)

अग्निकोणे धर्मशास्त्रं न्यसेच्च कमलासनम् । श्वेतं च बिभ्रतं दोर्भ्यां मुक्तामालां तथातुलाम्

agnikoṇe dharmaśāstraṁ nyasecca kamalāsanam | śvetaṁ ca bibhrataṁ dorbhyāṁ muktāmālāṁ tathātulām

In the south-east he should place Dharmashastra, seated on a lotus, white, holding in his two arms an incomparable pearl garland.

Verse 59 (skanda.2.216.59)

दीर्घकेशनखं सांख्यं नैर्ऋते तुन्दिलं न्यसेत् । जपमालां च दण्डं च कराभ्यां बिभ्रतं सितम्

dīrghakeśanakhaṁ sāṁkhyaṁ nairṛte tundilaṁ nyaset | japamālāṁ ca daṇḍaṁ ca karābhyāṁ bibhrataṁ sitam

In the south-west he should place Sankhya-shastra, long-haired and long-nailed, pot-bellied, white, holding in his two hands a rosary and a staff.

Verse 60 (skanda.2.216.60)

न्यसेद्वायौ ततो योगं स्वर्णवर्णं कृशोदरम् । ऊरुन्यस्तकरद्वन्द्वं स्वनासाग्रकृतेक्षणम्

nyasedvāyau tato yogaṁ svarṇavarṇaṁ kṛśodaram | ūrunyastakaradvandvaṁ svanāsāgrakṛtekṣaṇam

Then in the north-west he should place Yoga-shastra, of golden hue, slender-waisted, both hands resting upon the thighs, his gaze fixed upon the tip of his own nose.

Verse 61 (skanda.2.216.61)

पञ्चरात्रं तथेशाने धवलं वनमालिनम् । न्यसेत्कराभ्यां दधतमक्षमालां च लांगलम्

pañcarātraṁ tatheśāne dhavalaṁ vanamālinam | nyasetkarābhyāṁ dadhatamakṣamālāṁ ca lāṁgalam

And in the north-east he should place Pancharatra-shastra, white, wearing a forest garland, holding in his two hands a rosary and a plough.

Verse 62 (skanda.2.216.62)

एषां चतुर्णां वासांसि श्वेतसूक्ष्मघनानि च । कर्त्तव्यानि तथाक्षीणि पद्मपत्रायतानि च

eṣāṁ caturṇāṁ vāsāṁsi śvetasūkṣmaghanāni ca | karttavyāni tathākṣīṇi padmapatrāyatāni ca

The garments of these four should be made white, fine, and dense; and their eyes should be made long, like lotus petals.

Verse 63 (skanda.2.216.63)

अग्राणामन्तरालेषु महर्षींश्च सयोषितः । विन्यसेत्पठतो वेदान्पूर्वाग्नेयाद्यनुक्रमात्

agrāṇāmantarāleṣu maharṣīṁśca sayoṣitaḥ | vinyasetpaṭhato vedānpūrvāgneyādyanukramāt

In the spaces between the petal-tips he should place the great sages together with their wives, reciting the Vedas, in order beginning from the east and the south-east.

Verse 64 (skanda.2.216.64)

मरीचिं कलया युक्तमत्रिं चाप्यनसूयया । श्रद्धयांगिरसं साकं पुलस्त्यं च हविर्भुवा

marīciṁ kalayā yuktamatriṁ cāpyanasūyayā | śraddhayāṁgirasaṁ sākaṁ pulastyaṁ ca havirbhuvā

Marichi together with Kala; Atri together with Anasuya; Angiras together with Shraddha; and Pulastya together with Havirbhu.

Verse 65 (skanda.2.216.65)

गत्या युक्तं च पुलहं क्रियया च सह क्रतुम् । ख्यात्या भृगुमरुन्धत्या वशिष्ठं सह विन्यसेत्

gatyā yuktaṁ ca pulahaṁ kriyayā ca saha kratum | khyātyā bhṛgumarundhatyā vaśiṣṭhaṁ saha vinyaset

Pulaha together with Gati; Kratu together with Kriya; Bhrigu together with Khyati; and Vasishtha together with Arundhati.

Verse 66 (skanda.2.216.66)

द्विभुजाः सर्व एवैते जटाश्मश्रुधराः कृशाः । कार्यास्तपस्विनो दण्डान्दधतश्च कमण्डलून्

dvibhujāḥ sarva evaite jaṭāśmaśrudharāḥ kṛśāḥ | kāryāstapasvino daṇḍāndadhataśca kamaṇḍalūn

All these should be made two-armed, wearing matted hair and beards, lean, ascetic in appearance, holding staffs and water-pots.

Verse 67 (skanda.2.216.67)

पद्माद्बहिर्न्यसेच्चाऽष्टौ दिशासु विदिशासु च । दिक्पालानिन्द्रप्रमुखान्सहयानान्यथादिशम्

padmādbahirnyaseccā'ṣṭau diśāsu vidiśāsu ca | dikpālānindrapramukhānsahayānānyathādiśam

Outside the lotus, in the eight cardinal and intermediate directions, he should place the guardians of the directions, headed by Indra, together with their mounts, each in his own direction.

Verse 68 (skanda.2.216.68)

प्राच्यामैरावतारूढं न्यसेदिन्द्रं चतुर्भुजम् । वज्रांकुशाम्बुजवरान्दधतं स्वर्णसन्निभम्

prācyāmairāvatārūḍhaṁ nyasedindraṁ caturbhujam | vajrāṁkuśāmbujavarāndadhataṁ svarṇasannibham

In the east he should place Indra, mounted on Airavata, four-armed, holding the thunderbolt, the goad, the lotus, and displaying the boon-gesture, of a golden hue.

Verse 69 (skanda.2.216.69)

कौसुम्भरम्यवसनं नानालंकारशोभितम् । शोणापांगं विशालाक्षं सर्वलक्षणलक्षितम्

kausumbharamyavasanaṁ nānālaṁkāraśobhitam | śoṇāpāṁgaṁ viśālākṣaṁ sarvalakṣaṇalakṣitam

Clad in a lovely red garment, resplendent with various ornaments, red-eyed at the corners, large-eyed, marked with every auspicious sign.

Verse 70 (skanda.2.216.70)

अग्निकोणे न्यसेदग्निं ताम्रवर्णं चतुर्भुजम् । दधानं पाणिभिश्चैव शूलं शक्तिं स्रुचं स्रुवम्

agnikoṇe nyasedagniṁ tāmravarṇaṁ caturbhujam | dadhānaṁ pāṇibhiścaiva śūlaṁ śaktiṁ srucaṁ sruvam

In the south-east he should place Agni, copper-hued, four-armed, holding in his hands the trident, the spear, and the sacrificial ladles.

Verse 71 (skanda.2.216.71)

चतुःशुके हैमरथे निषण्णं वायुसारथिम् । त्रिनेत्रं धूम्रवसनं पिङ्गश्मश्रुजटेक्षणम्

catuḥśuke haimarathe niṣaṇṇaṁ vāyusārathim | trinetraṁ dhūmravasanaṁ piṅgaśmaśrujaṭekṣaṇam

Seated in a golden chariot yoked with four goats, with Vayu as his charioteer, three-eyed, smoke-coloured in garment, with tawny beard, matted hair, and eyes.

Verse 72 (skanda.2.216.72)

यमं न्यसेद्दक्षिणतः श्यामं चामीकराम्बरम् । चतुर्भुजं दण्डखड्गपरशुं पाशधारिणम् । उन्मत्तमहिषारूढं नानाभूषणभूषितम्

yamaṁ nyaseddakṣiṇataḥ śyāmaṁ cāmīkarāmbaram | caturbhujaṁ daṇḍakhaḍgaparaśuṁ pāśadhāriṇam | unmattamahiṣārūḍhaṁ nānābhūṣaṇabhūṣitam

In the south he should place Yama, dark-hued, clad in golden garments, four-armed, holding the staff, sword, axe, and noose, mounted on a furious buffalo, adorned with various ornaments.

Verse 73 (skanda.2.216.73)

ऊर्द्ध्वकेशं विरूपाक्षं नैर्ऋतं नैर्ऋते न्यसेत् । खड्गं पाशं च दधतं द्विभुजं नरवाहनम्

ūrddhvakeśaṁ virūpākṣaṁ nairṛtaṁ nairṛte nyaset | khaḍgaṁ pāśaṁ ca dadhataṁ dvibhujaṁ naravāhanam

In the south-west he should place Nirriti, with upstanding hair, deformed-eyed, two-armed, holding a sword and noose, mounted on a man as his vehicle.

Verse 74 (skanda.2.216.74)

हरिश्मश्रुं धूम्रवर्णं परिवीतासिताम्बरम् । हाटकानेकभूषाढ्यमवैष्णवभयंकरम्

hariśmaśruṁ dhūmravarṇaṁ parivītāsitāmbaram | hāṭakānekabhūṣāḍhyamavaiṣṇavabhayaṁkaram

Tawny-bearded, smoke-coloured, clothed in black garments, richly adorned with golden ornaments, terrifying to those who are not devotees of Vishnu.

Verse 75 (skanda.2.216.75)

ततः प्रतीच्यां वरुणमिन्द्रनीलमणिप्रभम् । श्वेताम्बरं चतुर्बाहुं मुक्ताहार विभूषितम्

tataḥ pratīcyāṁ varuṇamindranīlamaṇiprabham | śvetāmbaraṁ caturbāhuṁ muktāhāra vibhūṣitam

Then in the west, Varuna, radiant like a sapphire, clad in white garments, four-armed, adorned with a pearl necklace.

Verse 76 (skanda.2.216.76)

सप्तहंसरथारूढं दोर्भ्यां पाशं च बिभ्रतम् । अन्याभ्यां रत्नपात्रं च शंखं च दधतं न्यसेत्

saptahaṁsarathārūḍhaṁ dorbhyāṁ pāśaṁ ca bibhratam | anyābhyāṁ ratnapātraṁ ca śaṁkhaṁ ca dadhataṁ nyaset

Mounted on a chariot drawn by seven swans, holding a noose in one pair of arms, and a jewelled vessel and a conch in the other — thus he should place him.

Verse 77 (skanda.2.216.77)

वायौ वायुं हरिद्वर्णं द्विभुजं कृष्णवाससम् । पृषत्स्थं मुक्तकेशं च व्यात्तास्यं ध्वजिनं न्यसेत्

vāyau vāyuṁ haridvarṇaṁ dvibhujaṁ kṛṣṇavāsasam | pṛṣatsthaṁ muktakeśaṁ ca vyāttāsyaṁ dhvajinaṁ nyaset

In the north-west he should place Vayu, green-hued, two-armed, clad in black garments, mounted on an antelope, with loosened hair, open mouth, and bearing a banner.

Verse 78 (skanda.2.216.78)

सौम्ये न्यसेत्कुबेरं च स्वर्णवर्णं चतुर्भुजम् । गदाशक्तित्रिशूलानि रत्नपात्रं च बिभ्रतम्

saumye nyasetkuberaṁ ca svarṇavarṇaṁ caturbhujam | gadāśaktitriśūlāni ratnapātraṁ ca bibhratam

In the north he should place Kubera, golden-hued, four-armed, holding the mace, the spear, the trident, and a jewelled vessel.

Verse 79 (skanda.2.216.79)

नीलाम्बरं श्मश्रुलं च शिबिकायां समास्थितम् । पिशंगवामनयनं नैकभूषं च वर्मिणम्

nīlāmbaraṁ śmaśrulaṁ ca śibikāyāṁ samāsthitam | piśaṁgavāmanayanaṁ naikabhūṣaṁ ca varmiṇam

Clad in blue garments, bearded, seated in a palanquin, with a tawny left eye, richly adorned, and clad in armour.

Verse 80 (skanda.2.216.80)

ईशानेऽथ मूहारुद्रमर्द्धनारीश्वरं न्यसेत् । वामार्द्धे पार्वती कार्या दक्षार्द्धे तत्र शंकरः

īśāne'tha mūhārudramarddhanārīśvaraṁ nyaset | vāmārddhe pārvatī kāryā dakṣārddhe tatra śaṁkaraḥ

Then in the north-east he should place Ardhanarishvara; on the left half Parvati should be made, and on the right half, Shankara.

Verse 81 (skanda.2.216.81)

ईश्वरार्द्धे जटाजूटं कर्तव्यं चन्द्रभूषितम् । उमार्द्धे तिलकं कार्यं सीमन्तमलिके तथा

īśvarārddhe jaṭājūṭaṁ kartavyaṁ candrabhūṣitam | umārddhe tilakaṁ kāryaṁ sīmantamalike tathā

On the Ishvara half a crown of matted hair adorned with the moon should be made; on the Uma half, a tilaka mark and the parted-hair line on the forehead.

Verse 82 (skanda.2.216.82)

भस्मनोद्धूलितं चार्द्धमर्द्धं कुंकुमभूषितम् । नागोपवीतं चाप्यर्द्धमर्द्धं हारविभूषितम्

bhasmanoddhūlitaṁ cārddhamarddhaṁ kuṁkumabhūṣitam | nāgopavītaṁ cāpyarddhamarddhaṁ hāravibhūṣitam

One half should be smeared with ash, the other half adorned with vermilion; one half should wear a serpent as the sacred thread, the other half be adorned with a necklace.

Verse 83 (skanda.2.216.83)

वामार्द्धे च स्तनः पीनः कर्त्तव्यः कंचुकीवृतः । कट्यां च रशना हैमी पादे काञ्चननूपुरम्

vāmārddhe ca stanaḥ pīnaḥ karttavyaḥ kaṁcukīvṛtaḥ | kaṭyāṁ ca raśanā haimī pāde kāñcananūpuram

On the left half a full breast should be made, covered by a bodice; a golden girdle at the waist, and golden anklets on the foot.

Verse 84 (skanda.2.216.84)

कौसुम्भं वसनं चैव करौ कंकणभूषितौ । त्रिशूलमक्षसूत्रं च दधतौ रत्नमुद्रिकौ

kausumbhaṁ vasanaṁ caiva karau kaṁkaṇabhūṣitau | triśūlamakṣasūtraṁ ca dadhatau ratnamudrikau

A red garment, and both hands adorned with bracelets and jewelled rings, holding the trident and the rosary.

Verse 85 (skanda.2.216.85)

दक्षार्द्धे रशना सार्पी कार्या वस्त्रं गजाजिनम् । करौ च नागवलयौ दर्पणोत्पलधारिणौ

dakṣārddhe raśanā sārpī kāryā vastraṁ gajājinam | karau ca nāgavalayau darpaṇotpaladhāriṇau

On the right half a serpent-girdle should be made, the garment an elephant-hide; both hands wearing serpent-bracelets, holding a mirror and a blue lotus.

Verse 86 (skanda.2.216.86)

एवंविधं महादेवं न्यसेद्वृषभवाहनम् । इत्थमष्टदिगीशानां कुर्यात्स्थापनमर्चकः

evaṁvidhaṁ mahādevaṁ nyasedvṛṣabhavāhanam | itthamaṣṭadigīśānāṁ kuryātsthāpanamarcakaḥ

He should place Mahadeva of such a form, with the bull as his mount. Thus the worshipper should perform the installation of the eight guardians of the directions.

Verse 87 (skanda.2.216.87)

पुराद्बहिस्ततश्चाष्टौ स्थापयेदर्चको ग्रहान् । स्वस्वदिक्षु स्थितान्स्वस्वान्यारूढान्स्यन्दनानि च

purādbahistataścāṣṭau sthāpayedarcako grahān | svasvadikṣu sthitānsvasvānyārūḍhānsyandanāni ca

Then, outside the city, the worshipper should place the eight planets, each stationed in his own direction, mounted each on his own chariot.

Verse 88 (skanda.2.216.88)

प्राच्यां दिशि न्यसेत्तत्र भास्करं पीतवाससम् । सिन्दूरवर्णं द्विभुजं पद्महस्तं रथे स्थितम्

prācyāṁ diśi nyasettatra bhāskaraṁ pītavāsasam | sindūravarṇaṁ dvibhujaṁ padmahastaṁ rathe sthitam

In the eastern direction he should there place the Sun, clad in yellow garments, vermilion-hued, two-armed, holding a lotus in hand, seated in his chariot.

Verse 89 (skanda.2.216.89)

एकं चक्रं द्वादशारं रथस्यास्यातितेजसः । सप्ताश्वाश्च हरिद्वर्णा वामे सन्ति नियोजिताः

ekaṁ cakraṁ dvādaśāraṁ rathasyāsyātitejasaḥ | saptāśvāśca haridvarṇā vāme santi niyojitāḥ

This most brilliant one's chariot has a single wheel with twelve spokes, and seven green-hued horses are yoked to its left.

Verse 90 (skanda.2.216.90)

अग्निकोणे ततः स्थाप्यो भृगुः श्वेतः सिताम्बरः । दण्डं कमण्डलुं बिभ्रद्द्विबाहुः सौम्यदर्शनः

agnikoṇe tataḥ sthāpyo bhṛguḥ śvetaḥ sitāmbaraḥ | daṇḍaṁ kamaṇḍaluṁ bibhraddvibāhuḥ saumyadarśanaḥ

In the south-east then should be placed Venus, white, clad in white garments, two-armed, holding a staff and a water-pot, gentle in appearance.

Verse 91 (skanda.2.216.91)

चित्रवर्णाश्वदशके स्थितो हेममये रथे । दक्षिणे च न्यसेद्भौमं रक्तं रक्ताम्बरं तथा

citravarṇāśvadaśake sthito hemamaye rathe | dakṣiṇe ca nyasedbhaumaṁ raktaṁ raktāmbaraṁ tathā

Seated in a golden chariot with ten horses of variegated colours; and in the south he should place Mars, red, clad likewise in red garments.

Verse 92 (skanda.2.216.92)

चतुर्भुजं गदाशक्तित्रिशूलवरधारिणम् । तस्य हैमं रथं कुर्यादरुणाष्टहयान्वितम्

caturbhujaṁ gadāśaktitriśūlavaradhāriṇam | tasya haimaṁ rathaṁ kuryādaruṇāṣṭahayānvitam

Four-armed, holding the mace, the spear, the trident, and displaying the boon-gesture; his chariot should be made of gold, drawn by eight red horses.

Verse 93 (skanda.2.216.93)

राहुश्च नैर्ऋते कोणे नीलवासाश्चतुर्भुजः । करालास्यस्तमोरूपश्चर्मासिशक्तिशूलधृत्

rāhuśca nairṛte koṇe nīlavāsāścaturbhujaḥ | karālāsyastamorūpaścarmāsiśaktiśūladhṛt

And Rahu, in the south-west corner, clad in blue garments, four-armed, with a fearsome face, of the form of darkness, holding a shield, a sword, a spear, and a trident.

Verse 94 (skanda.2.216.94)

भृङ्गवर्णाष्टतुरगे स्थितः कार्यस्त्वयोरथे । सौरिश्च पश्चिमे स्थाप्य इन्द्रनीलसमद्युतिः

bhṛṅgavarṇāṣṭaturage sthitaḥ kāryastvayorathe | sauriśca paścime sthāpya indranīlasamadyutiḥ

He should be made seated in an iron chariot drawn by eight bee-dark horses; and Saturn should be placed in the west, radiant like a sapphire.

Verse 95 (skanda.2.216.95)

धन्वी त्रिशूली द्विभुजो मन्दाक्षश्चासिताम्बरः । शबलाष्टाश्वसंयुक्ते स्थितः कार्ष्णायसे रथे

dhanvī triśūlī dvibhujo mandākṣaścāsitāmbaraḥ | śabalāṣṭāśvasaṁyukte sthitaḥ kārṣṇāyase rathe

Bearing a bow, holding a trident, two-armed, slow-eyed, clad in black garments, seated in an iron chariot yoked with eight dappled horses.

Verse 96 (skanda.2.216.96)

वायुकोणे ततश्चन्द्रं स्थापयेच्च सिताम्बरम् । श्वेतवर्णं गदाहस्तं द्विभुजं च रथे स्थितम्

vāyukoṇe tataścandraṁ sthāpayecca sitāmbaram | śvetavarṇaṁ gadāhastaṁ dvibhujaṁ ca rathe sthitam

Then in the north-west he should place the Moon, clad in white garments, white-hued, mace in hand, two-armed, seated in his chariot.

Verse 97 (skanda.2.216.97)

शतारचक्रत्रितये स्यन्दने तस्य चाम्मये । कुन्दाभाः सन्त्युभयतो योजितास्तुरगा दश

śatāracakratritaye syandane tasya cāmmaye | kundābhāḥ santyubhayato yojitāsturagā daśa

In his silver chariot, with three wheels each of a hundred spokes, ten horses white as jasmine are yoked on both sides.

उत्तरे द्विभुजः सौम्यो वराभयकरोरुणः । हरिद्वासाष्टपिंगाश्वे कार्यो हैमरथे स्थितः

uttare dvibhujaḥ saumyo varābhayakaroruṇaḥ | haridvāsāṣṭapiṁgāśve kāryo haimarathe sthitaḥ

In the north, Mercury, two-armed, gentle, ruddy-hued, his hands in the boon and fearlessness gestures, should be made seated in a golden chariot with eight tawny-green horses.

Verse 99 (skanda.2.216.99)

ईशाने च गुरुः स्थाप्यो हेमवर्णः सिताम्बरः । द्विभुजः पद्मनयनो धृतदण्डकमण्डलुः । पाण्डुराष्टहये हैमे निषण्णः स्यन्दनोत्तमे

īśāne ca guruḥ sthāpyo hemavarṇaḥ sitāmbaraḥ | dvibhujaḥ padmanayano dhṛtadaṇḍakamaṇḍaluḥ | pāṇḍurāṣṭahaye haime niṣaṇṇaḥ syandanottame

And in the north-east, Jupiter should be placed, golden-hued, clad in white garments, two-armed, lotus-eyed, holding a staff and water-pot, seated in an excellent golden chariot drawn by eight pale horses.

Verse 100 (skanda.2.216.100)

अंगदेवान्भगवतः स्थापयेदित्थमर्चकः । कर्णिकाद्रिपुरान्तान्तस्थानेषु क्रमशोऽखिलान्

aṁgadevānbhagavataḥ sthāpayeditthamarcakaḥ | karṇikādripurāntāntasthāneṣu kramaśo'khilān

Thus the worshipper should install all the attendant deities of the Lord, in order, in their respective positions from the pericarp out to the boundary of the outer city.

वासुदेवांगदेवानां न्यसेन्मूर्त्तीस्तु वैभवी । पूगफलानीतरस्तु न्यसेत्पुष्पाक्षतादि वा

vāsudevāṁgadevānāṁ nyasenmūrttīstu vaibhavī | pūgaphalānītarastu nyasetpuṣpākṣatādi vā

For the images of Vasudeva's attendant deities, one of ample means should place full images; another, of lesser means, should place betel-nuts, or flowers and rice-grains, and the like.
