Verse 1 (skanda.4.57.1)

॥स्कंद उवाच॥ विश्वेशो विश्वया सार्धं मया च मुनिसत्तम ॥ महाशाखविशाखाभ्यां नंदिभृंगिपुरोगमः

||skaṁda uvāca|| viśveśo viśvayā sārdhaṁ mayā ca munisattama || mahāśākhaviśākhābhyāṁ naṁdibhṛṁgipurogamaḥ

Skanda said: O best of sages, Vishvesha, together with Vishva (Parvati) and with me, accompanied by Mahashakha and Vishakha, with Nandi and Bhringi going before...

Verse 2 (skanda.4.57.2)

नैगमेयेन सहितो रुद्रैः सर्वत्र संवृतः ॥ देवर्षिभिः समायुक्तः सनकाद्यैरभिष्टुतः

naigameyena sahito rudraiḥ sarvatra saṁvṛtaḥ || devarṣibhiḥ samāyuktaḥ sanakādyairabhiṣṭutaḥ

...together with Naigameya, surrounded on every side by the Rudras, joined by the celestial sages, praised by Sanaka and the others...

Verse 3 (skanda.4.57.3)

समस्तायतनाधीशैर्दिक्पालैरभिनंदितः ॥ तीर्थैर्दर्शित तीर्थश्च गंधर्वैर्गीतमंगलः

samastāyatanādhīśairdikpālairabhinaṁditaḥ || tīrthairdarśita tīrthaśca gaṁdharvairgītamaṁgalaḥ

...greeted by the presiding deities of every shrine and by the guardians of the quarters; the sacred fords themselves seemed to show him as the true tirtha, while Gandharvas sang auspicious songs...

Verse 4 (skanda.4.57.4)

कृतपूजोप्सरोभिश्च नृत्यहस्तकपल्लवैः ॥ वियत्यनाहतैर्वाद्यैः समंतादनुमोदितः

kṛtapūjopsarobhiśca nṛtyahastakapallavaiḥ || viyatyanāhatairvādyaiḥ samaṁtādanumoditaḥ

...worshipped by Apsaras with their dancing arms tender as young shoots, and delighted on every side by unstruck instruments sounding in the sky...

Verse 5 (skanda.4.57.5)

ऋषीणां ब्रह्मनिर्घोषैर्बधिरीकृतदिङ्मुखः ॥ कृतस्तुतिश्चारणौघैर्विमानैरभितोवृतः

ṛṣīṇāṁ brahmanirghoṣairbadhirīkṛtadiṅmukhaḥ || kṛtastutiścāraṇaughairvimānairabhitovṛtaḥ

...with the quarters deafened by the sages' Vedic recitations, praised by hosts of Charanas, surrounded on all sides by heavenly chariots...

Verse 6 (skanda.4.57.6)

त्रिविष्टप वधूमुष्टिभ्रष्टैर्लाजैरितस्ततः ॥ अभिवृष्टो महादेवः संप्रहृष्टतनूरुहः

triviṣṭapa vadhūmuṣṭibhraṣṭairlājairitastataḥ || abhivṛṣṭo mahādevaḥ saṁprahṛṣṭatanūruhaḥ

...showered here and there with parched grain scattered from the fistfuls of heaven's women, Mahadeva, his body thrilling with joy...

Verse 7 (skanda.4.57.7)

दत्तमाल्योपहारश्च बहुविद्याधरी गणैः ॥ यक्षगुह्यकसिद्धैश्च खेचरैरभिनंदितः

dattamālyopahāraśca bahuvidyādharī gaṇaiḥ || yakṣaguhyakasiddhaiśca khecarairabhinaṁditaḥ

...offered garlands and gifts by many hosts of Vidyadhara women, welcomed by Yakshas, Guhyakas, Siddhas, and sky-wanderers...

Verse 8 (skanda.4.57.8)

कृतप्रवेश शकुनो मृगैः शकुनिभिः पुरः ॥ किंनरीभिः प्रहष्टास्यैः किंनरैरुपवर्णितः

kṛtapraveśa śakuno mṛgaiḥ śakunibhiḥ puraḥ || kiṁnarībhiḥ prahaṣṭāsyaiḥ kiṁnarairupavarṇitaḥ

...his entry marked by auspicious birds, deer, and fowl going before him, described in song by joyful-faced Kinnaris and Kinnaras...

Verse 9 (skanda.4.57.9)

विष्णुना च महालक्ष्म्या ब्रह्मणा विश्वकर्मणा ॥ नंदिनाथ गणेशेन आविष्कृतमहोत्सवः

viṣṇunā ca mahālakṣmyā brahmaṇā viśvakarmaṇā || naṁdinātha gaṇeśena āviṣkṛtamahotsavaḥ

...with a great festival made manifest by Vishnu, Mahalakshmi, Brahma, Vishvakarma, Nandinatha, and Ganesha...

Verse 10 (skanda.4.57.10)

नागांगनाभिः परितः कृतनीराजनाविधिः ॥ प्रविवेश महादेवः पुरीं वाराणसीं शुभाम्

nāgāṁganābhiḥ paritaḥ kṛtanīrājanāvidhiḥ || praviveśa mahādevaḥ purīṁ vārāṇasīṁ śubhām

...with the rite of lamp-waving performed all around by serpent maidens, Mahadeva entered the auspicious city of Varanasi.

Verse 11 (skanda.4.57.11)

पश्यतां सर्वदेवानामवरुह्य वृषेंद्रतः ॥ परिष्वज्य गणाधीशं प्रोवाच वृषभध्वजः

paśyatāṁ sarvadevānāmavaruhya vṛṣeṁdrataḥ || pariṣvajya gaṇādhīśaṁ provāca vṛṣabhadhvajaḥ

As all the gods watched, descending from the lord of bulls, the Bull-Bannered One embraced the lord of the ganas and spoke -

Verse 12 (skanda.4.57.12)

यदहं प्राप्तवानस्मि पुरीं वाराणसीं शुभाम् ॥ मयाप्यतीव दुष्प्राप्यां स प्रसादो स्य वै शिशोः

yadahaṁ prāptavānasmi purīṁ vārāṇasīṁ śubhām || mayāpyatīva duṣprāpyāṁ sa prasādo sya vai śiśoḥ

"That I have reached this auspicious city of Varanasi, so hard to attain even for me - that is the grace of this child indeed."

Verse 13 (skanda.4.57.13)

यद्दुष्प्रसाध्यं हि पितुरपि त्रिजगतीतले ॥ तत्सूनुना सुसाध्यं स्यादत्र दृष्टांतता मयि

yadduṣprasādhyaṁ hi piturapi trijagatītale || tatsūnunā susādhyaṁ syādatra dṛṣṭāṁtatā mayi

"What is difficult even for a father to accomplish in the three worlds can be easily accomplished by a son - here I am the very example."

Verse 14 (skanda.4.57.14)

अनेन गजवक्त्रेण स्वबुद्धिविभवेरिह ॥ काशीप्राप्तिर्यथा मे स्यात्तथा किंचिदनुष्ठितम्

anena gajavaktreṇa svabuddhivibhaveriha || kāśīprāptiryathā me syāttathā kiṁcidanuṣṭhitam

"This elephant-faced one, through the power of his own intellect, accomplished something here so that I might attain Kashi."

Verse 15 (skanda.4.57.15)

पुत्रवानहमेवास्मि यच्च मे चिरचिंतितम् ॥ स्वपौरुषेण कृतवानभिलाषं करस्थितम्

putravānahamevāsmi yacca me ciraciṁtitam || svapauruṣeṇa kṛtavānabhilāṣaṁ karasthitam

"I alone am truly blessed with a son, since what I had long desired, he, by his own manly effort, has placed as if already in my hand."

Verse 16 (skanda.4.57.16)

इत्युक्त्वा त्रिपुरीहर्ता पुरुहूतादिभिः स्तुतः ॥ परितुष्टावसंहृष्टः स्पष्टगीर्भिर्गजाननम्

ityuktvā tripurīhartā puruhūtādibhiḥ stutaḥ || parituṣṭāvasaṁhṛṣṭaḥ spaṣṭagīrbhirgajānanam

Having said this, the Destroyer of Tripura, praised by Indra and the other gods, deeply delighted, extolled the elephant-faced one in clear words.

Verse 17 (skanda.4.57.17)

॥श्रीकंठ उवाच॥ जय विघ्नकृतामाद्य भक्तनिर्विघ्नकारक ॥ अविघ्नविघ्नशमन महाविघ्नैकविघ्नकृत्

||śrīkaṁṭha uvāca|| jaya vighnakṛtāmādya bhaktanirvighnakāraka || avighnavighnaśamana mahāvighnaikavighnakṛt

Shrikantha said: "Victory to you, O first among the makers of obstacles, yet the remover of obstacles for your devotees! O queller even where there is no obstacle, sole obstacle-maker to the greatest of obstacles!"

Verse 18 (skanda.4.57.18)

जय सर्वगणाधीश जय सर्व गणाग्रणीः ॥ गणप्रणतपादाब्ज गणनातीतसद्गुण

jaya sarvagaṇādhīśa jaya sarva gaṇāgraṇīḥ || gaṇapraṇatapādābja gaṇanātītasadguṇa

"Victory, O lord of all the ganas! Victory, O foremost of all ganas! The ganas bow at your lotus feet; your true virtues are beyond counting!"

Verse 19 (skanda.4.57.19)

जय सर्वग सर्वेश सर्वबुद्ध्येकशेवधे ॥ सर्वमायाप्रपंचज्ञ सर्वकर्माग्रपूजित

jaya sarvaga sarveśa sarvabuddhyekaśevadhe || sarvamāyāprapaṁcajña sarvakarmāgrapūjita

"Victory, O all-pervading one, lord of all, sole treasury of every understanding! Knower of the whole expanse of maya, worshipped first in every rite!"

Verse 20 (skanda.4.57.20)

सर्वमंगलमांगल्य जय त्वं सर्वमंगल ॥ अमंगलोपशमन महामंगलहेतुक

sarvamaṁgalamāṁgalya jaya tvaṁ sarvamaṁgala || amaṁgalopaśamana mahāmaṁgalahetuka

"O auspiciousness of every auspicious thing, victory to you, all-auspicious one! Queller of inauspiciousness, cause of the greatest good fortune!"

Verse 21 (skanda.4.57.21)

जय सृष्टिकृतां वंद्य जय स्थितिकृतानत ॥ जय संहृतिकृत्स्तुत्य जयसत्कर्मसिद्धिद

jaya sṛṣṭikṛtāṁ vaṁdya jaya sthitikṛtānata || jaya saṁhṛtikṛtstutya jayasatkarmasiddhida

"Victory - honored by the creators! Victory - bowed to by the sustainers! Victory - praised by the destroyers! Victory, giver of success in righteous deeds!"

Verse 22 (skanda.4.57.22)

सिद्धवंद्यपदांभोज जयसिद्धिविधायक ॥ सर्वसिद्ध्येकनिलय महासिद्ध्यृद्धिसूचक

siddhavaṁdyapadāṁbhoja jayasiddhividhāyaka || sarvasiddhyekanilaya mahāsiddhyṛddhisūcaka

"Your lotus feet are venerated by the Siddhas; victory, bestower of accomplishment! Sole abode of every siddhi, herald of great powers and prosperity!"

Verse 23 (skanda.4.57.23)

अशेषगुणनिर्माण गुणातीत गुणाग्रणी ॥ परिपूर्णचरित्रार्थ जय त्वं गुणवर्णित

aśeṣaguṇanirmāṇa guṇātīta guṇāgraṇī || paripūrṇacaritrārtha jaya tvaṁ guṇavarṇita

"O fashioner of every virtue, yet beyond all qualities, foremost among the virtuous! Your deeds are perfect and complete - victory to you, praised for your virtues!"

Verse 24 (skanda.4.57.24)

जय सर्वबलाधीश बलाराति बलप्रद ॥ बलाकोज्ज्वल दंताग्र बालाबालपराकम

jaya sarvabalādhīśa balārāti balaprada || balākojjvala daṁtāgra bālābālaparākama

"Victory, lord of all strength, foe of demonic strength yet giver of strength! Your tusk-tips gleam white as a crane; your might belongs equally to the young and the old!"

Verse 25 (skanda.4.57.25)

अनंतमहिमाधार धराधर विदारण ॥ दंताग्रप्रोतां दङ्नाग जयनागविभूषण

anaṁtamahimādhāra dharādhara vidāraṇa || daṁtāgraprotāṁ daṅnāga jayanāgavibhūṣaṇa

"O support of infinite glory, splitter of mountains! Bearing the serpent upon the tip of your tusk, victory, O one adorned with serpents!"

Verse 26 (skanda.4.57.26)

ये त्वांनमंति करुणामय दिव्य मूर्ते सर्वैनसामपि भुवो भुविमुक्तिभाजः ॥ तेषां सदैव हरसीहमहोपसर्गान्स्वर्गापवर्गमपि संप्रददासि तेभ्यः

ye tvāṁnamaṁti karuṇāmaya divya mūrte sarvainasāmapi bhuvo bhuvimuktibhājaḥ || teṣāṁ sadaiva harasīhamahopasargānsvargāpavargamapi saṁpradadāsi tebhyaḥ

"O merciful one of divine form, those who bow to you, though laden with every sin of the earth, become sharers of liberation while still on earth. From them you ever remove great afflictions here, and grant them both heaven and final liberation."

Verse 27 (skanda.4.57.27)

ये विघ्नराज भवता करुणाकटाक्षैः संप्रेक्षिताः क्षितितले क्षणमात्रमत्र ॥ तेषां क्षयंति सकलान्यपिकिल्विषाणि लक्ष्मीः कटाक्षयतितान्पुरुषोत्तमान्हि

ye vighnarāja bhavatā karuṇākaṭākṣaiḥ saṁprekṣitāḥ kṣititale kṣaṇamātramatra || teṣāṁ kṣayaṁti sakalānyapikilviṣāṇi lakṣmīḥ kaṭākṣayatitānpuruṣottamānhi

"O king of obstacles, those upon whom you cast, even for a mere instant, your compassionate glance - all their sins, however many, perish; and Lakshmi herself then casts her glance upon those foremost of men."

Verse 28 (skanda.4.57.28)

ये त्वां स्तुवंति नतविघ्नविघातदक्ष दाक्षायणीहृदयपंकजतिग्मरश्मे ॥ श्रूयंत एव त इह प्रथिता न चित्रं चित्रं तदत्र गणपा यदहो त एव

ye tvāṁ stuvaṁti natavighnavighātadakṣa dākṣāyaṇīhṛdayapaṁkajatigmaraśme || śrūyaṁta eva ta iha prathitā na citraṁ citraṁ tadatra gaṇapā yadaho ta eva

"O skilled destroyer of obstacles for those who bow, O sun to the lotus-heart of Dakshayani, those who praise you become renowned - that is no wonder. The true wonder, O lord of ganas, is that they alone attain it."

Verse 29 (skanda.4.57.29)

ये शीलयंति सततं भवतोंघ्रियुग्मं ते पुत्रपौत्रधनधान्यसमृद्धिभाजः ॥ संशीलितांघ्रिकमला बहुभृत्यवर्गैर्भूपालभोग्यकमलां विमलां लभंते

ye śīlayaṁti satataṁ bhavatoṁghriyugmaṁ te putrapautradhanadhānyasamṛddhibhājaḥ || saṁśīlitāṁghrikamalā bahubhṛtyavargairbhūpālabhogyakamalāṁ vimalāṁ labhaṁte

"Those who constantly cultivate devotion to your two feet become possessors of sons, grandsons, wealth, and grain in abundance. Having cultivated your lotus feet, with a host of servants, they attain the stainless splendor fit for a king."

Verse 30 (skanda.4.57.30)

त्वं कारणं परमकारणकारणानां वेद्योसि वेदविदुषां सततं त्वमेकः ॥ त्वं मार्गणीयमसि किंचन मूलवाचां वाचामगोचरचराचरदिव्यमूर्ते

tvaṁ kāraṇaṁ paramakāraṇakāraṇānāṁ vedyosi vedaviduṣāṁ satataṁ tvamekaḥ || tvaṁ mārgaṇīyamasi kiṁcana mūlavācāṁ vācāmagocaracarācaradivyamūrte

"You are the cause of the causes even of the ultimate causes; you alone are what is ever to be known by the knowers of the Veda. You are the very root of all speech, to be sought, O divine form beyond words, pervading all that moves and moves not."

Verse 31 (skanda.4.57.31)

वेदा विदंति न यथार्थतया भवंतं ब्रह्मादयोपि न चराचर सूत्रधार ॥ त्वं हंसि पासि विदधासि समस्तमेकः कस्तेस्तुतिव्यतिकरो मनसाप्यगम्य

vedā vidaṁti na yathārthatayā bhavaṁtaṁ brahmādayopi na carācara sūtradhāra || tvaṁ haṁsi pāsi vidadhāsi samastamekaḥ kastestutivyatikaro manasāpyagamya

"Not even the Vedas know you as you truly are, nor Brahma and the rest, O director of all that moves and moves not! You alone destroy, protect, and ordain everything - who then can rightly praise you, unattainable even by the mind?"

Verse 32 (skanda.4.57.32)

त्वद्दुष्टदृष्टिविशिखैर्निहतान्निहन्मि दैत्यान्पुरांधकजलंधरमुख्यकांश्च ॥ कस्यास्ति शक्तिरिह यस्त्वदृतेपि तुच्छं वांछेद्विधातु मिह सिद्धिदकार्यजातम्

tvadduṣṭadṛṣṭiviśikhairnihatānnihanmi daityānpurāṁdhakajalaṁdharamukhyakāṁśca || kasyāsti śaktiriha yastvadṛtepi tucchaṁ vāṁchedvidhātu miha siddhidakāryajātam

"By the arrow-like glances of your terrible sight, having already struck them down, I merely finish off the demons - Tripura, Andhaka, Jalandhara, and the rest. Who else has the power even to wish for the least of the deeds that bring success here?"

Verse 33 (skanda.4.57.33)

अन्वेषणे ढुंढिरयं प्रथितोस्तिधातुः सर्वार्थढुंढिततया तव ढुंढि नाम ॥ काशीप्रवेशमपि को लभतेत्र देही तोषं विना तव विनायकढुंढिराज

anveṣaṇe ḍhuṁḍhirayaṁ prathitostidhātuḥ sarvārthaḍhuṁḍhitatayā tava ḍhuṁḍhi nāma || kāśīpraveśamapi ko labhatetra dehī toṣaṁ vinā tava vināyakaḍhuṁḍhirāja

"The root 'ḍhuṇḍh' is known in the sense of 'to seek'; because you seek out every purpose of your devotees, your name is Dhundhi. O Vinayaka Dhundhiraja, what being could ever attain even entry into Kashi without your favor?"

Verse 34 (skanda.4.57.34)

ढुंढे प्रणम्यपुरतस्तवपादपद्मं यो मां नमस्यति पुमानिह काशिवासी ॥ तत्कर्णमूलमधिगम्य पुरा दिशामि तत्किंचिदत्र न पुनर्भवतास्ति येन

ḍhuṁḍhe praṇamyapuratastavapādapadmaṁ yo māṁ namasyati pumāniha kāśivāsī || tatkarṇamūlamadhigamya purā diśāmi tatkiṁcidatra na punarbhavatāsti yena

"O Dhundhi, whatever man dwelling in Kashi, having first bowed to your lotus feet, then bows to me - approaching the root of his ear, I whisper to him beforehand something by which he shall have no more rebirth."

Verse 35 (skanda.4.57.35)

स्नात्वा नरः प्रथमतो मणिकर्णिकायामुद्धूलितांघ्रियुगलस्तु सचैलमाशु ॥ देवर्षिमानवपितॄनपि तर्पयित्वा ज्ञानोदतीर्थमभिलभ्य भजेत्ततस्त्वाम्

snātvā naraḥ prathamato maṇikarṇikāyāmuddhūlitāṁghriyugalastu sacailamāśu || devarṣimānavapitṝnapi tarpayitvā jñānodatīrthamabhilabhya bhajettatastvām

"A man, having first bathed at Manikarnika, his two feet dusted with ash, quickly, with his garment still wet, having offered libations to gods, sages, men, and ancestors, and reached the Jnanavapi tirtha, should then worship you."

Verse 36 (skanda.4.57.36)

सामोदमोदकभरैर्वरधूपदीपैर्माल्यैः सुगंधबहुलैरनुलेपनैश्च ॥ संप्रीण्यकाशिनगरीफलदानदक्षं प्रोक्त्वाथ मां क इह सिध्यति नैव ढुंढे

sāmodamodakabharairvaradhūpadīpairmālyaiḥ sugaṁdhabahulairanulepanaiśca || saṁprīṇyakāśinagarīphaladānadakṣaṁ proktvātha māṁ ka iha sidhyati naiva ḍhuṁḍhe

"Having pleased you with heaps of fragrant modakas, fine incense and lamps, garlands, and sweet-smelling unguents, and then speaking to me in prayer - O Dhundhi, skilled in bestowing the fruit of Kashi, who indeed does not attain success here?"

Verse 37 (skanda.4.57.37)

तीर्थांतराणि च ततः क्रमवर्जितोपि संसाधयन्निह भवत्करुणाकटाक्षैः ॥ दूरीकृतस्वहितघात्युपसर्गवर्गो ढुंढे लभेदविकलं फलमत्र काश्याम्

tīrthāṁtarāṇi ca tataḥ kramavarjitopi saṁsādhayanniha bhavatkaruṇākaṭākṣaiḥ || dūrīkṛtasvahitaghātyupasargavargo ḍhuṁḍhe labhedavikalaṁ phalamatra kāśyām

"Even without following the proper order in visiting the other tirthas here, through your compassionate glance every affliction harmful to his welfare is driven far away, and, O Dhundhi, he obtains the complete fruit here in Kashi."

Verse 38 (skanda.4.57.38)

यः प्रत्यहं नमति ढुं ढिविनायकं त्वां काश्यां प्रगे प्रतिहताखिलविघ्नसंघः ॥ नो तस्य जातु जगतीतलवर्ति वस्तु दुष्प्रापमत्र च परत्र च किंचनापि

yaḥ pratyahaṁ namati ḍhuṁ ḍhivināyakaṁ tvāṁ kāśyāṁ prage pratihatākhilavighnasaṁghaḥ || no tasya jātu jagatītalavarti vastu duṣprāpamatra ca paratra ca kiṁcanāpi

"He who bows every day at dawn in Kashi to you, Dhundhi Vinayaka, has every host of obstacles repelled; for him nothing on this earth is ever hard to attain, whether here or in the world beyond."

Verse 39 (skanda.4.57.39)

यो नाम ते जपति ढुंढिविनायकस्य तं वै जपंत्यनुदिनं हृदि सिद्धयोष्टौ ॥ भोगान्विभुज्य विविधान्विबुधोपभोग्यान्निर्वाणया कमलया व्रियते स चांते

yo nāma te japati ḍhuṁḍhivināyakasya taṁ vai japaṁtyanudinaṁ hṛdi siddhayoṣṭau || bhogānvibhujya vividhānvibudhopabhogyānnirvāṇayā kamalayā vriyate sa cāṁte

"O Dhundhi Vinayaka, whoever repeats your name - the eight siddhis themselves repeat it daily in his heart; and having enjoyed manifold pleasures fit even for the gods, he is at last chosen by Lakshmi in her form as liberation."

Verse 40 (skanda.4.57.40)

दूरे स्थितोप्यहरहस्तव पादपीठं यः संस्मरेत्सकलसिद्धिद ढुंढिराज ॥ काशीस्थिते रविकलं सफलं लभेत नैवान्यथा न वितथा मम वाक्कदाचित्

dūre sthitopyaharahastava pādapīṭhaṁ yaḥ saṁsmaretsakalasiddhida ḍhuṁḍhirāja || kāśīsthite ravikalaṁ saphalaṁ labheta naivānyathā na vitathā mama vākkadācit

"O Dhundhiraja, giver of every accomplishment, whoever, even while far away, remembers your footstool day after day obtains, as if present in Kashi, the fruit of a portion of the sun's merit - never otherwise; my word is never false."

Verse 41 (skanda.4.57.41)

जाने विघ्नानसंख्यातान्विनिहंतुमनेकधा ॥ क्षेत्रस्यास्य महाभाग नानारूपैरिहस्थितः

jāne vighnānasaṁkhyātānvinihaṁtumanekadhā || kṣetrasyāsya mahābhāga nānārūpairihasthitaḥ

"O great one, I know how to destroy the countless obstacles of this field in many ways, and for that I am established here in various forms."

Verse 42 (skanda.4.57.42)

यानि यानि च रूपाणि यत्रयत्र च तेनघ ॥ तानि तत्र प्रवक्ष्यामि शृण्वंत्वेते दिवौकसः

yāni yāni ca rūpāṇi yatrayatra ca tenagha || tāni tatra pravakṣyāmi śṛṇvaṁtvete divaukasaḥ

"O sinless one, whatever forms I take, and wherever, those I shall now declare, place by place; let these dwellers of heaven listen."

Verse 43 (skanda.4.57.43)

प्रथमं ढुंढिराजोसि मम दक्षिणतो मनाक् ॥ आढुंढ्य सर्वभक्तेभ्यः सर्वार्थान्संप्रयच्छसि

prathamaṁ ḍhuṁḍhirājosi mama dakṣiṇato manāk || āḍhuṁḍhya sarvabhaktebhyaḥ sarvārthānsaṁprayacchasi

"First, a little to my south, you are Dhundhiraja; having sought out all things, you bestow upon every devotee whatever they desire."

Verse 44 (skanda.4.57.44)

अंगारवासरवतीमिह यैश्चतुर्थीं संप्राप्य मोदकभरैः परिमोदवद्भिः ॥ पूजा व्यधायि विविधा तव गंधमाल्यैस्तानत्र पुत्रविदधामि गणान्गणेश

aṁgāravāsaravatīmiha yaiścaturthīṁ saṁprāpya modakabharaiḥ parimodavadbhiḥ || pūjā vyadhāyi vividhā tava gaṁdhamālyaistānatra putravidadhāmi gaṇāngaṇeśa

"Those who, on the fourth day falling on a Tuesday, worship you here in various ways with heaps of joy-giving modakas, fragrance and garlands - them, O Ganesha, I make into ganas here, like sons."

Verse 45 (skanda.4.57.45)

ये त्वामिह प्रति चतुर्थि समर्चयंति ढुंढे विगाढमतयः कृतिनस्त एव ॥ सर्वापदां शिरसि वामपदं निधाय सम्यग्गजानन गजाननतां लभंते

ye tvāmiha prati caturthi samarcayaṁti ḍhuṁḍhe vigāḍhamatayaḥ kṛtinasta eva || sarvāpadāṁ śirasi vāmapadaṁ nidhāya samyaggajānana gajānanatāṁ labhaṁte

"O Dhundhi, those of deep devotion who worship you on every fourth day are the truly accomplished; having set their left foot upon the head of every calamity, O elephant-faced one, they attain a state like your own."

Verse 46 (skanda.4.57.46)

माघशुक्लचतुर्थ्यां तु नक्तव्रतपरायणाः ॥ ये त्वां ढुंढेर्चयिष्यंति तेऽर्च्याः स्युरसुरद्रुहाम्

māghaśuklacaturthyāṁ tu naktavrataparāyaṇāḥ || ye tvāṁ ḍhuṁḍhercayiṣyaṁti te'rcyāḥ syurasuradruhām

"Those devoted to the night-vow on the bright fourth day of Magha, who worship you, O Dhundhi, become worthy of worship even by the enemies of the demons."

Verse 47 (skanda.4.57.47)

विधाय वार्षिकीं यात्रां चतुर्थीं प्राप्य तापसीम् ॥ शुक्लां शुक्लतिलैर्बद्ध्वा प्राश्नीयाल्लड्डुकान्व्रती

vidhāya vārṣikīṁ yātrāṁ caturthīṁ prāpya tāpasīm || śuklāṁ śuklatilairbaddhvā prāśnīyāllaḍḍukānvratī

"Having performed the yearly pilgrimage, and reaching the ascetic's fourth day, the votary, having bound white sesame together, should eat white laddus."

Verse 48 (skanda.4.57.48)

कार्या यात्रा प्रयत्नेन क्षेत्रसिद्धिमभीप्सुभिः ॥ तस्यां चतुर्थ्यां त्वत्प्रीत्यै ढुंढे सर्वोपसर्गहृत्

kāryā yātrā prayatnena kṣetrasiddhimabhīpsubhiḥ || tasyāṁ caturthyāṁ tvatprītyai ḍhuṁḍhe sarvopasargahṛt

"Those who desire accomplishment in this sacred field should make this pilgrimage with effort; O Dhundhi, remover of every affliction, it should be done on that fourth day for your pleasure alone."

Verse 49 (skanda.4.57.49)

तां यात्रां नात्रयः कुर्यान्नैवेद्यतिललडुकैः ॥ उपसर्गसहस्रैस्तु स हंतव्यो ममाज्ञया

tāṁ yātrāṁ nātrayaḥ kuryānnaivedyatilalaḍukaiḥ || upasargasahasraistu sa haṁtavyo mamājñayā

"Let those who dwell here not neglect that pilgrimage with its offering of sesame-laddus; whoever fails to do so shall, by my command, be struck by a thousand afflictions."

Verse 50 (skanda.4.57.50)

होमं तिलाज्यद्रव्येण यः करिष्यति भक्तितः ॥ तस्यां चतुर्थ्यां मंत्रज्ञस्तस्य मंत्रः प्रसेत्स्यति

homaṁ tilājyadravyeṇa yaḥ kariṣyati bhaktitaḥ || tasyāṁ caturthyāṁ maṁtrajñastasya maṁtraḥ prasetsyati

"Whoever, knowing the mantra, performs with devotion a fire-offering of sesame and ghee on that fourth day - his mantra shall bear fruit."

Verse 51 (skanda.4.57.51)

वैदिकोऽवैदिको वापि यो मंत्रस्ते गजानन ॥ जप्तस्त्वत्संनिधौ ढुंढे सिद्धिं दास्यति वांछिताम्

vaidiko'vaidiko vāpi yo maṁtraste gajānana || japtastvatsaṁnidhau ḍhuṁḍhe siddhiṁ dāsyati vāṁchitām

"O elephant-faced Dhundhi, whether Vedic or non-Vedic, whatever mantra is recited in your presence shall grant the desired accomplishment."

Verse 52 (skanda.4.57.52)

॥ईश्वर उवाच॥ इमां स्तुतिं ममकृतिं यः पठिष्यति सन्मतिः ॥ न जातु तं तु विघ्नौघाः पीडयिष्यंति निश्चितम्

||īśvara uvāca|| imāṁ stutiṁ mamakṛtiṁ yaḥ paṭhiṣyati sanmatiḥ || na jātu taṁ tu vighnaughāḥ pīḍayiṣyaṁti niścitam

Ishvara said: "Whoever, of good understanding, recites this hymn composed by me shall certainly never be afflicted by hosts of obstacles."

Verse 53 (skanda.4.57.53)

ढौंढीं स्तुतिमिमां पुण्यां यः पठेड्ढुंढि संनिधौ ॥ सान्निध्यं तस्य सततं भजेयुः सर्वसिद्धयः

ḍhauṁḍhīṁ stutimimāṁ puṇyāṁ yaḥ paṭheḍḍhuṁḍhi saṁnidhau || sānnidhyaṁ tasya satataṁ bhajeyuḥ sarvasiddhayaḥ

"Whoever recites this sacred hymn to Dhundhi in Dhundhi's own presence - all the siddhis shall constantly dwell near him."

Verse 54 (skanda.4.57.54)

इमां स्तुतिं नरो जप्त्वा परं नियतमानसः ॥ मानसैरपि पापैस्तैर्नाभिभूयेत कर्हिचित्

imāṁ stutiṁ naro japtvā paraṁ niyatamānasaḥ || mānasairapi pāpaistairnābhibhūyeta karhicit

"A man who recites this hymn, his mind wholly disciplined, shall never be overcome, even by mental sins."

Verse 55 (skanda.4.57.55)

पुत्रान्कलत्रं क्षेत्राणि वराश्वान्वरमंदिरम् ॥ प्राप्नुयाच्च धनं धान्यं ढुंढिस्तोत्रं जपन्नरः

putrānkalatraṁ kṣetrāṇi varāśvānvaramaṁdiram || prāpnuyācca dhanaṁ dhānyaṁ ḍhuṁḍhistotraṁ japannaraḥ

"A man reciting this hymn to Dhundhi obtains sons, a wife, lands, fine horses, a fine dwelling, and wealth and grain."

Verse 56 (skanda.4.57.56)

सर्वसंपत्करं नाम स्तोत्रमेतन्मयेरितम् ॥ प्रजप्तव्यं प्रयत्नेन मुक्तिकामेन सर्वदा

sarvasaṁpatkaraṁ nāma stotrametanmayeritam || prajaptavyaṁ prayatnena muktikāmena sarvadā

"This hymn, called 'Bringer of All Prosperity,' has been declared by me; it should always be recited with effort by one who desires liberation."

Verse 57 (skanda.4.57.57)

जप्त्वा स्तोत्रमिदं पुण्यं क्वापि कार्ये गमिष्यतः ॥ पुंसः पुरः समेष्यंति नियतं सर्वसिद्धयः

japtvā stotramidaṁ puṇyaṁ kvāpi kārye gamiṣyataḥ || puṁsaḥ puraḥ sameṣyaṁti niyataṁ sarvasiddhayaḥ

"Having recited this sacred hymn, for a man setting out on any undertaking, all accomplishments will surely come to meet him."

Verse 58 (skanda.4.57.58)

अन्यच्च कथयाम्यत्र शृण्वंत्वेते दिवौकसः ॥ ढुंढिना क्षेत्ररक्षार्थं यत्रयत्र स्थितिः कृता

anyacca kathayāmyatra śṛṇvaṁtvete divaukasaḥ || ḍhuṁḍhinā kṣetrarakṣārthaṁ yatrayatra sthitiḥ kṛtā

"And I shall now tell something else - let these dwellers of heaven listen - as to where, place by place, Dhundhi has established himself for the protection of this field."

Verse 59 (skanda.4.57.59)

काश्यां गंगासि संभेदे नामतोर्कविनायकः ॥ दृष्टोर्कवासरे पुंभिः सर्वतापप्रशांतये

kāśyāṁ gaṁgāsi saṁbhede nāmatorkavināyakaḥ || dṛṣṭorkavāsare puṁbhiḥ sarvatāpapraśāṁtaye

"In Kashi, at the confluence of the Ganga and the Asi, is the one named Arka-Vinayaka; he is beheld by men on Sundays for the quelling of every affliction."

Verse 60 (skanda.4.57.60)

दुर्गो नाम गणाध्यक्षः सर्वदुर्गतिनाशनः ॥ क्षेत्रस्य दक्षिणे भागे पूजनीयः प्रयत्नतः

durgo nāma gaṇādhyakṣaḥ sarvadurgatināśanaḥ || kṣetrasya dakṣiṇe bhāge pūjanīyaḥ prayatnataḥ

"The lord of ganas named Durga, destroyer of every misfortune, is in the southern part of the field, to be worshipped with diligence."

Verse 61 (skanda.4.57.61)

भीमचंडी समीपे तु भीमचंडविनायकः ॥ क्षेत्रनैर्ऋतदेशस्थो दृष्टो हंति महाभयम्

bhīmacaṁḍī samīpe tu bhīmacaṁḍavināyakaḥ || kṣetranairṛtadeśastho dṛṣṭo haṁti mahābhayam

"Near Bhimachandi is Bhimachanda-Vinayaka, in the southwestern part of the field; when beheld, he destroys great fear."

Verse 62 (skanda.4.57.62)

क्षेत्रस्य पश्चिमे भागे स देहलिविनायकः ॥ सर्वान्निवारयेद्विघ्नान्भक्तानां नात्र संशयः

kṣetrasya paścime bhāge sa dehalivināyakaḥ || sarvānnivārayedvighnānbhaktānāṁ nātra saṁśayaḥ

"In the western part of the field is Dehali-Vinayaka; he wards off all his devotees' obstacles - there is no doubt of this."

Verse 63 (skanda.4.57.63)

क्षेत्रवायव्यदिग्भागे उद्दंडाख्यो गजाननः ॥ उद्दंडानपि विघ्नौघान्भक्तानां दंडयेत्सदा

kṣetravāyavyadigbhāge uddaṁḍākhyo gajānanaḥ || uddaṁḍānapi vighnaughānbhaktānāṁ daṁḍayetsadā

"In the northwestern quarter of the field is the elephant-faced one named Uddanda; he ever chastises even the most unruly hosts of obstacles for his devotees."

Verse 64 (skanda.4.57.64)

काश्याः सदोत्तराशायां पाशपाणिर्विनायकः ॥ विनायकान्पाशयति भक्त्या काशीनिवासिनाम्

kāśyāḥ sadottarāśāyāṁ pāśapāṇirvināyakaḥ || vināyakānpāśayati bhaktyā kāśīnivāsinām

"Ever in the northern direction of Kashi is Pashapani-Vinayaka; through the devotion of Kashi's residents, he binds fast their obstacles."

Verse 65 (skanda.4.57.65)

गंगावरणयोः संगे रम्यः खर्वविनायकः ॥ अखर्वानपि विघ्नौघान्भक्तानां खर्वयेत्सताम्

gaṁgāvaraṇayoḥ saṁge ramyaḥ kharvavināyakaḥ || akharvānapi vighnaughānbhaktānāṁ kharvayetsatām

"At the meeting of the Ganga and the enclosure is the lovely Kharva-Vinayaka; he diminishes even the mightiest hosts of obstacles for his true devotees."

Verse 66 (skanda.4.57.66)

प्राच्यां तु क्षेत्ररक्षार्थं सिद्धः सिद्धिविनायकः ॥ पश्चिमे यमतीर्थस्य साधकक्षिप्रसिद्धिदः

prācyāṁ tu kṣetrarakṣārthaṁ siddhaḥ siddhivināyakaḥ || paścime yamatīrthasya sādhakakṣiprasiddhidaḥ

"In the east, for the field's protection, is the accomplished Siddhi-Vinayaka; in the west of Yama-tirtha is one who swiftly grants accomplishment to seekers."

Verse 67 (skanda.4.57.67)

बाह्यावरणगाश्चैते काश्यामष्टौ विनायकाः ॥ उच्चाटयत्यभक्तांश्च भक्तानां सर्वसिद्धिदाः

bāhyāvaraṇagāścaite kāśyāmaṣṭau vināyakāḥ || uccāṭayatyabhaktāṁśca bhaktānāṁ sarvasiddhidāḥ

These eight Vinayakas stationed in Kashi's outer enclosure drive away those without devotion, while granting every accomplishment to their devotees.

Verse 68 (skanda.4.57.68)

द्वितीयावरणे चैव ये रक्षंति विनायकाः ॥ अविमुक्तमिदं क्षेत्रं तानहं कथयाम्यतः

dvitīyāvaraṇe caiva ye rakṣaṁti vināyakāḥ || avimuktamidaṁ kṣetraṁ tānahaṁ kathayāmyataḥ

Now I shall tell of the Vinayakas who guard this field of Avimukta in the second enclosure.

Verse 69 (skanda.4.57.69)

स्वर्धुन्याः पश्चिमे कूले उत्तरेर्कविनायकात् ॥ लंबोदरो गणाध्यक्षः क्षालयेद्विघ्नकर्दमम्

svardhunyāḥ paścime kūle uttarerkavināyakāt || laṁbodaro gaṇādhyakṣaḥ kṣālayedvighnakardamam

"On the western bank of the celestial river, north of Arka-Vinayaka, is Lambodara, lord of the ganas; he washes away the mire of obstacles."

Verse 70 (skanda.4.57.70)

तत्पश्चिमेकूटदंत उदग्दुर्गविनायकात् ॥ दुर्गोपसर्गसंहर्ता रक्षेत्क्षेत्रमिदं सदा

tatpaścimekūṭadaṁta udagdurgavināyakāt || durgopasargasaṁhartā rakṣetkṣetramidaṁ sadā

"West of that is Kutadanta, north of Durga-Vinayaka; the destroyer of dire afflictions, he ever protects this field."

Verse 71 (skanda.4.57.71)

भीमचंड गणाध्यक्षात्किंचिदीशानदिग्गतः ॥ क्षेत्ररक्षोगणाध्यक्षः पूज्यः शालकटंकटः

bhīmacaṁḍa gaṇādhyakṣātkiṁcidīśānadiggataḥ || kṣetrarakṣogaṇādhyakṣaḥ pūjyaḥ śālakaṭaṁkaṭaḥ

"A little northeast of Bhimachanda, lord of ganas, is Shalakatankata, worshipful lord of the ganas who guard the field."

Verse 72 (skanda.4.57.72)

प्राच्या देहलिविघ्नेशात्कूश्मांडाख्यो विनायकः ॥ पूजनीयः सदा भक्तेर्महोत्पात प्रशांतये

prācyā dehalivighneśātkūśmāṁḍākhyo vināyakaḥ || pūjanīyaḥ sadā bhaktermahotpāta praśāṁtaye

"East of Dehali-Vighnesha is the Vinayaka named Kushmanda, ever to be worshipped with devotion for the quelling of great calamities."

Verse 73 (skanda.4.57.73)

उद्दंडाख्याद्गणपतेराशुशुक्षणिदिक्स्थितः ॥ महाप्रसिद्धः संपूज्यो भक्तैर्मुंडविनायकः

uddaṁḍākhyādgaṇapaterāśuśukṣaṇidiksthitaḥ || mahāprasiddhaḥ saṁpūjyo bhaktairmuṁḍavināyakaḥ

"Southeast of the Ganapati named Uddanda is the greatly renowned Munda-Vinayaka, well worshipped by his devotees."

Verse 74 (skanda.4.57.74)

पाताले तस्य देहोस्ति मुंडं काश्यां व्यवस्थितम ॥ अतः स गीयते काश्यां देवो मुंडविनायकः

pātāle tasya dehosti muṁḍaṁ kāśyāṁ vyavasthitama || ataḥ sa gīyate kāśyāṁ devo muṁḍavināyakaḥ

"His body is in the netherworld, while only his head is established here in Kashi; therefore he is celebrated in Kashi as the god Munda-Vinayaka."

Verse 75 (skanda.4.57.75)

पाशपाणेर्गणेशानाद्दक्षिणे विकटद्विजम् ॥ पूजयित्वा गणपतिं गाणपत्यपदं लभेत्

pāśapāṇergaṇeśānāddakṣiṇe vikaṭadvijam || pūjayitvā gaṇapatiṁ gāṇapatyapadaṁ labhet

"South of Pashapani, the lord of ganas, is Vikata; worshipping this Ganapati, one attains the state of Ganapatya."

Verse 76 (skanda.4.57.76)

खर्वाख्यान्नैर्ऋतेभागे राजपुत्रो विनायकः ॥ भ्रष्टराज्यं च राजानं राजानं कुरुतेऽर्चितः

kharvākhyānnairṛtebhāge rājaputro vināyakaḥ || bhraṣṭarājyaṁ ca rājānaṁ rājānaṁ kurute'rcitaḥ

"In the southwestern direction from Kharva is Rajaputra-Vinayaka; when worshipped, he restores a king fallen from his kingdom to kingship again."

Verse 77 (skanda.4.57.77)

गंगायाः पश्चिमे कूले प्रणवाख्यो गणाधिपः ॥ अवाच्यां राजपुत्राच्च प्रणतः प्रणयेद्दिवम्

gaṁgāyāḥ paścime kūle praṇavākhyo gaṇādhipaḥ || avācyāṁ rājaputrācca praṇataḥ praṇayeddivam

"On the western bank of the Ganga is the lord of ganas named Pranava; southwest of Rajaputra, he leads the humbled devotee to heaven."

Verse 78 (skanda.4.57.78)

द्वितीयावरणे काश्यामष्टावेते विनायकाः ॥ उत्सादयेयुर्विघ्नौघान्काशी स्थितिनिवासिनाम्

dvitīyāvaraṇe kāśyāmaṣṭāvete vināyakāḥ || utsādayeyurvighnaughānkāśī sthitinivāsinām

These eight Vinayakas of the second enclosure in Kashi destroy the hosts of obstacles for those who dwell there.

Verse 79 (skanda.4.57.79)

क्षेत्रे तृतीयावरणे क्षेत्ररक्षाकृतः सदा ॥ ये विघ्नराजाः संतीह ते वक्तव्या मयाधुना

kṣetre tṛtīyāvaraṇe kṣetrarakṣākṛtaḥ sadā || ye vighnarājāḥ saṁtīha te vaktavyā mayādhunā

Now I shall speak of the lords of obstacles in the third enclosure, who ever act as the field's protectors.

Verse 80 (skanda.4.57.80)

उदग्वहायाः स्वर्धुन्या रम्ये रोधसि विघ्नराट् ॥ लंबोदरादुदीच्यां तु वक्रतुंडोघसंघहृत्

udagvahāyāḥ svardhunyā ramye rodhasi vighnarāṭ || laṁbodarādudīcyāṁ tu vakratuṁḍoghasaṁghahṛt

"On the lovely bank of the northward-flowing celestial river is the king of obstacles; north of Lambodara is Vakratunda, remover of hosts of afflictions."

Verse 81 (skanda.4.57.81)

कूटदंताद्गणपतेरुदीच्यामेकदंतकः ॥ सदोपसर्गसंसर्गात्पायादानंदकाननम्

kūṭadaṁtādgaṇapaterudīcyāmekadaṁtakaḥ || sadopasargasaṁsargātpāyādānaṁdakānanam

"North of the Ganapati Kutadanta is Ekadanta; may he ever protect the forest of Ananda from the assault of afflictions."

Verse 82 (skanda.4.57.82)

काशीभयहरो नित्यमैश्यां शालकटंकटात् ॥ त्रिमुखो नाम विघ्नेशः कपिसिंहद्विपाननः

kāśībhayaharo nityamaiśyāṁ śālakaṭaṁkaṭāt || trimukho nāma vighneśaḥ kapisiṁhadvipānanaḥ

"Ever removing Kashi's fear, northeast of Shalakatankata, is the lord of obstacles named Trimukha, having the faces of a monkey, a lion, and an elephant."

Verse 83 (skanda.4.57.83)

कूश्मांडात्पूर्वदिग्भागे पंचास्यो नाम विघ्नराद् ॥ पंचास्यस्यंदनवरः पाति वाराणसीं पुरीम्

kūśmāṁḍātpūrvadigbhāge paṁcāsyo nāma vighnarād || paṁcāsyasyaṁdanavaraḥ pāti vārāṇasīṁ purīm

"East of Kushmanda is the lord of obstacles named Panchasya (five-faced); mounted on his fine chariot, he protects the city of Varanasi."

Verse 84 (skanda.4.57.84)

हेरंबाख्यः सदाग्नेय्यां पूज्यो मुंडविनायकात् ॥ अंबावत्पूरयेत्कामान्सर्वेषां काशिवासिनाम्

heraṁbākhyaḥ sadāgneyyāṁ pūjyo muṁḍavināyakāt || aṁbāvatpūrayetkāmānsarveṣāṁ kāśivāsinām

"Ever southeast of Munda-Vinayaka is the worshipful Heramba; like the Mother Goddess, he fulfills the desires of all who dwell in Kashi."

Verse 85 (skanda.4.57.85)

अवाच्यामर्चयेद्धीमान्सिद्ध्यै विकटदंततः ॥ विघ्नराजं गणपतिं सर्वविघ्नविनाशनम्

avācyāmarcayeddhīmānsiddhyai vikaṭadaṁtataḥ || vighnarājaṁ gaṇapatiṁ sarvavighnavināśanam

"The wise should worship, southwest of Vikata, for the sake of accomplishment, the lord of obstacles, Ganapati, destroyer of every obstacle."

Verse 86 (skanda.4.57.86)

विनायकाद्राजपुत्रात्किंचिद्रक्षोदिशिस्थितः ॥ वरदाख्यो गणाध्यक्षः पूज्यो भक्तवरप्रदः

vināyakādrājaputrātkiṁcidrakṣodiśisthitaḥ || varadākhyo gaṇādhyakṣaḥ pūjyo bhaktavarapradaḥ

"A little south from Vinayaka Rajaputra is the lord of ganas named Varada, worshipful, granter of boons to his devotees."

Verse 87 (skanda.4.57.87)

याम्यां प्रणवविघ्नेशाद्गणेशो मोदकप्रियः ॥ पूज्यः पिशंगिला तीर्थे देवनद्यास्तटे शुभे

yāmyāṁ praṇavavighneśādgaṇeśo modakapriyaḥ || pūjyaḥ piśaṁgilā tīrthe devanadyāstaṭe śubhe

"South of Pranava-Vighnesha is Ganesha, fond of modakas; worshipped at the Pishangila tirtha, on the auspicious bank of the celestial river."

Verse 88 (skanda.4.57.88)

चतुर्थावरणे काश्यां भक्तविघ्नविनाशकाः ॥ द्रष्टव्या हृष्टचेतोभिः स्पष्टमष्टौ विनायकाः

caturthāvaraṇe kāśyāṁ bhaktavighnavināśakāḥ || draṣṭavyā hṛṣṭacetobhiḥ spaṣṭamaṣṭau vināyakāḥ

These eight Vinayakas of the fourth enclosure in Kashi, destroyers of devotees' obstacles, should be clearly seen with joyful hearts.

Verse 89 (skanda.4.57.89)

वक्रतुंडादुदग्दिक्स्थः स्वःसिंधो रोधसिस्थितः ॥ विनायकोस्त्यभयदः सर्वेषां भयनाशनः

vakratuṁḍādudagdiksthaḥ svaḥsiṁdho rodhasisthitaḥ || vināyakostyabhayadaḥ sarveṣāṁ bhayanāśanaḥ

"North of Vakratunda, on the bank of the celestial river, is a Vinayaka, giver of fearlessness, destroyer of fear for all."

Verse 90 (skanda.4.57.90)

कौबेर्यामेकदशनात्सिंहतुंडो विनायकः ॥ उपसर्गगजान्हंति वाराणसि निवासिनाम्

kauberyāmekadaśanātsiṁhatuṁḍo vināyakaḥ || upasargagajānhaṁti vārāṇasi nivāsinām

"North of Ekadanta is Simhatunda-Vinayaka; he slays the elephant-like afflictions of the residents of Varanasi."

Verse 91 (skanda.4.57.91)

कूणिताक्षो गणाध्यक्षस्त्रितुंडादीश दिक्स्थितः ॥ महाश्मशानं सततं पायाद्दुष्टकुदृष्टितः

kūṇitākṣo gaṇādhyakṣastrituṁḍādīśa diksthitaḥ || mahāśmaśānaṁ satataṁ pāyādduṣṭakudṛṣṭitaḥ

"The lord of ganas Kunitaksha, stationed northeast of Trimukha, ever protects the great cremation ground from evil, malicious glances."

Verse 92 (skanda.4.57.92)

प्राच्यां पंचास्यतः पायात्पुरीं क्षिप्रप्रसादनः ॥ क्षिप्रप्रसादनार्चातः क्षिप्रं सिध्यंति सिद्धयः

prācyāṁ paṁcāsyataḥ pāyātpurīṁ kṣipraprasādanaḥ || kṣipraprasādanārcātaḥ kṣipraṁ sidhyaṁti siddhayaḥ

"East of Panchasya, may Kshipraprasadana protect the city; by worshipping Kshipraprasadana, accomplishments are swiftly attained."

Verse 93 (skanda.4.57.93)

हेरंबाद्वह्निदिग्भागे चिंतामणि विनायकः ॥ भक्तचिंतामणिः साक्षाच्चिंतितार्थ समर्पकः

heraṁbādvahnidigbhāge ciṁtāmaṇi vināyakaḥ || bhaktaciṁtāmaṇiḥ sākṣācciṁtitārtha samarpakaḥ

"Southeast of Heramba is Chintamani-Vinayaka, the very wish-fulfilling jewel of his devotees, granter of whatever they think of."

Verse 94 (skanda.4.57.94)

विघ्नराजादवाच्यां तु दंतहस्तो गणेश्वरः ॥ लिखेद्विघ्नसहस्राणि नृणां वाराणसीद्रुहाम्

vighnarājādavācyāṁ tu daṁtahasto gaṇeśvaraḥ || likhedvighnasahasrāṇi nṛṇāṁ vārāṇasīdruhām

"Southwest of Vighnaraja is the lord of ganas Dantahasta; he records a thousand afflictions as punishment for men who harm Varanasi."

Verse 95 (skanda.4.57.95)

वरदाद्यातुधान्यां च यातुधानगणावृतः ॥ देवः पिचिंडिलो नाम पुरीं रक्षेदहर्निशम्

varadādyātudhānyāṁ ca yātudhānagaṇāvṛtaḥ || devaḥ piciṁḍilo nāma purīṁ rakṣedaharniśam

"South of Varada, surrounded by hosts of rakshasas, is the god named Pichindila; he guards the city day and night."

Verse 96 (skanda.4.57.96)

दृष्टः पिलिपिलातीर्थे दक्षिणे मोदकप्रियात् ॥ उद्दंड मुंडो हेरंबो भक्तेभ्यः किं न यच्छति

dṛṣṭaḥ pilipilātīrthe dakṣiṇe modakapriyāt || uddaṁḍa muṁḍo heraṁbo bhaktebhyaḥ kiṁ na yacchati

"Seen at the Pilipila tirtha, south of Modakapriya, is Uddanda-Munda-Heramba - what does he not grant to his devotees?"

Verse 97 (skanda.4.57.97)

प्राकारे पंचमे काश्यां द्विचतुष्क विनायकाः ॥ कुर्वंति रक्षां क्षेत्रस्य ये तानत्र ब्रवीम्यहम्

prākāre paṁcame kāśyāṁ dvicatuṣka vināyakāḥ || kurvaṁti rakṣāṁ kṣetrasya ye tānatra bravīmyaham

In the fifth enclosure of Kashi, eight Vinayakas (twice four) guard the field; these I shall now describe.

Verse 98 (skanda.4.57.98)

तीरे स्वर्गतरंगिण्या उत्तरे चाभयप्रदात् ॥ स्थूलदंतो गणेशानः स्थूलाः सिद्धीर्दिशेत्सताम्

tīre svargataraṁgiṇyā uttare cābhayapradāt || sthūladaṁto gaṇeśānaḥ sthūlāḥ siddhīrdiśetsatām

"On the bank of the heavenly river, north of Abhayaprada, is the lord of ganas Sthuladanta; he bestows great accomplishments upon the virtuous."

Verse 99 (skanda.4.57.99)

सिंहतुडादुदग्भागे कलिप्रिय विनायकः ॥ कलहं कारयेन्नित्यमन्योन्यं तैर्थिकद्रुहाम्

siṁhatuḍādudagbhāge kalipriya vināyakaḥ || kalahaṁ kārayennityamanyonyaṁ tairthikadruhām

"North of Simhatunda is Kalipriya-Vinayaka; he ever causes quarrels among those who wrong the pilgrims here."

Verse 100 (skanda.4.57.100)

कूणिताक्षात्तथैशान्यां चतुर्दंतो विनायकः ॥ तस्य दर्शनमात्रेण विघ्नसंघः क्षयेत्स्वयम्

kūṇitākṣāttathaiśānyāṁ caturdaṁto vināyakaḥ || tasya darśanamātreṇa vighnasaṁghaḥ kṣayetsvayam

"Northeast of Kunitaksha is Chaturdanta-Vinayaka; by the mere sight of him, the host of obstacles vanishes of itself."

Verse 101 (skanda.4.57.101)

क्षिप्रप्रसादनादैंद्र्यां द्वितुंडो गणनायकः ॥ अग्रतः पृष्ठतश्चापि बिभर्ति सदृशीं श्रियम्

kṣipraprasādanādaiṁdryāṁ dvituṁḍo gaṇanāyakaḥ || agrataḥ pṛṣṭhataścāpi bibharti sadṛśīṁ śriyam

"East of Kshipraprasadana is the lord of ganas Dvitunda; he bears an equal splendor both before and behind."

Verse 102 (skanda.4.57.102)

तस्य संदर्शनात्पुसां भवेच्छ्रीः सर्वतोमुखी ॥ ज्येष्ठो नाम गणाध्यक्षो ज्येष्ठो मे पुत्रसंपदि

tasya saṁdarśanātpusāṁ bhavecchrīḥ sarvatomukhī || jyeṣṭho nāma gaṇādhyakṣo jyeṣṭho me putrasaṁpadi

"By beholding him, prosperity becomes all-embracing for men. The lord of ganas named Jyeshtha is foremost among my sons in granting wealth."

Verse 103 (skanda.4.57.103)

ज्येष्ठशुक्लचतुर्दश्यां संपूज्यो ज्येष्ठताप्तये ॥ स्थितो वह्निदिशो भागे चिंतामणि विनायकात्

jyeṣṭhaśuklacaturdaśyāṁ saṁpūjyo jyeṣṭhatāptaye || sthito vahnidiśo bhāge ciṁtāmaṇi vināyakāt

"He is to be worshipped on the fourteenth of the bright fortnight of Jyeshtha for the attainment of primacy; he stands southeast of Chintamani-Vinayaka."

Verse 104 (skanda.4.57.104)

दंतहस्ताद्यमाशायां पूज्यो गजविनायकः ॥ तस्य संपूजनाद्भक्त्या गजांता श्रीरवाप्यते

daṁtahastādyamāśāyāṁ pūjyo gajavināyakaḥ || tasya saṁpūjanādbhaktyā gajāṁtā śrīravāpyate

"South of Dantahasta is the worshipful Gaja-Vinayaka; through his devout worship, prosperity extending even to elephants is obtained."

Verse 105 (skanda.4.57.105)

पिचिण्डिलाद्गणपतेर्याम्यां कालविनायकः ॥ भयं न कालकलितं तस्य संसेवनान्नृणाम्

piciṇḍilādgaṇapateryāmyāṁ kālavināyakaḥ || bhayaṁ na kālakalitaṁ tasya saṁsevanānnṛṇām

"South of the Ganapati Pichindila is Kala-Vinayaka; through serving him, men have no fear caused by Time."

Verse 106 (skanda.4.57.106)

उद्दंडमुंडाद्गणपात्की नाशदिशि संस्थितम् ॥ नागेशं गणपं दृष्ट्वा नागलोके महीयते

uddaṁḍamuṁḍādgaṇapātkī nāśadiśi saṁsthitam || nāgeśaṁ gaṇapaṁ dṛṣṭvā nāgaloke mahīyate

"Southwest of the Ganapati Uddanda-Munda is Nagesha-Ganapa; having beheld him, one is glorified in the world of serpents."

Verse 107 (skanda.4.57.107)

अथ षष्ठावरणगाः प्रोच्यंते विघ्ननायकाः ॥ तेषां नामश्रवादेव पुंसां सिद्धिः प्रजायते

atha ṣaṣṭhāvaraṇagāḥ procyaṁte vighnanāyakāḥ || teṣāṁ nāmaśravādeva puṁsāṁ siddhiḥ prajāyate

Now the lords of obstacles stationed in the sixth enclosure shall be told; by merely hearing their names, accomplishment arises for men.

Verse 108 (skanda.4.57.108)

मणिकर्णो गणपतिः प्राच्यां विघ्नविघातकृत् ॥ आशाविनायको वह्न्यां भक्ताशां पूरयन्स्थितः

maṇikarṇo gaṇapatiḥ prācyāṁ vighnavighātakṛt || āśāvināyako vahnyāṁ bhaktāśāṁ pūrayansthitaḥ

"In the east is the Ganapati Manikarna, destroyer of obstacles; in the southeast stands Asha-Vinayaka, ever fulfilling the hopes of his devotees."

Verse 109 (skanda.4.57.109)

याम्यांसृष्टिगणेशश्च सृष्टिसंहारसूचकः ॥ नैर्ऋत्यां यक्षविघ्नेशः सर्वविघ्नहरः परः

yāmyāṁsṛṣṭigaṇeśaśca sṛṣṭisaṁhārasūcakaḥ || nairṛtyāṁ yakṣavighneśaḥ sarvavighnaharaḥ paraḥ

"In the south is Srishti-Ganesha, indicator of both creation and destruction; in the southwest is Yaksha-Vighnesha, supreme remover of every obstacle."

Verse 110 (skanda.4.57.110)

प्रतीच्यां गजकर्णश्च सर्वेषां क्षेमकारकः ॥ चित्रघंटो गणपतिर्वायव्यां पालयेत्पुरीम्

pratīcyāṁ gajakarṇaśca sarveṣāṁ kṣemakārakaḥ || citraghaṁṭo gaṇapatirvāyavyāṁ pālayetpurīm

"In the west is Gajakarna, bringer of welfare to all; in the northwest, the Ganapati Chitraghanta protects the city."

Verse 111 (skanda.4.57.111)

स्थूलजंघउदीच्यां च शमयेच्छमिनामघम् ॥ ऐश्यामैशीपुरीं पायात्समंगलविनायकः

sthūlajaṁghaudīcyāṁ ca śamayecchamināmagham || aiśyāmaiśīpurīṁ pāyātsamaṁgalavināyakaḥ

"In the north is Sthulajangha, who quells the sins of the peaceful; in the northeast, Samangala-Vinayaka protects the lordly city."

Verse 112 (skanda.4.57.112)

यमतीर्थादुदीच्यां च पूज्यो मित्रविनायकः ॥ सप्तमावरणे ये च तांश्च वक्ष्ये विनायकान्

yamatīrthādudīcyāṁ ca pūjyo mitravināyakaḥ || saptamāvaraṇe ye ca tāṁśca vakṣye vināyakān

"North of Yama-tirtha is Mitra-Vinayaka, worthy of worship; and now I shall tell of the Vinayakas of the seventh enclosure."

Verse 113 (skanda.4.57.113)

मोदाद्याः पंचविघ्नेशाः षष्ठो ज्ञानविनायकः ॥ सप्तमो द्वारविघ्नेशो महाद्वारपुरश्चरः

modādyāḥ paṁcavighneśāḥ ṣaṣṭho jñānavināyakaḥ || saptamo dvāravighneśo mahādvārapuraścaraḥ

"Beginning with Moda, there are five lords of obstacles; the sixth is Jnana-Vinayaka; the seventh is Dvara-Vighnesha, who goes before at the great gate."

Verse 114 (skanda.4.57.114)

अष्टमः सर्वकष्टौघानविमुक्तविनायकः ॥ अविमुक्ते मम क्षेत्रे हरेत्प्रणतचेतसाम्

aṣṭamaḥ sarvakaṣṭaughānavimuktavināyakaḥ || avimukte mama kṣetre haretpraṇatacetasām

"The eighth is Avimukta-Vinayaka; in my field of Avimukta, he removes every mass of hardship from those whose hearts bow to him."

Verse 115 (skanda.4.57.115)

षट्पंचाशद्गजमुखानेतान्यः संस्मरिष्यति ॥ दूरदेशांतरस्थोपि स मृतो ज्ञानमाप्नुयात्

ṣaṭpaṁcāśadgajamukhānetānyaḥ saṁsmariṣyati || dūradeśāṁtarasthopi sa mṛto jñānamāpnuyāt

"Whoever remembers these fifty-six elephant-faced ones, even while dwelling far away in another land, shall at death attain true knowledge."

Verse 116 (skanda.4.57.116)

ढुंढिस्तुतिं महापुण्यां षट्पंचाशद्गजाननाम् ॥ यः पठिष्यति पुण्यात्मा तस्य सिद्धिः पदेपदे

ḍhuṁḍhistutiṁ mahāpuṇyāṁ ṣaṭpaṁcāśadgajānanām || yaḥ paṭhiṣyati puṇyātmā tasya siddhiḥ padepade

"Whoever, of virtuous soul, recites this greatly sacred hymn of the fifty-six elephant-faces of Dhundhi shall attain accomplishment at every step."

Verse 117 (skanda.4.57.117)

इमे गणेश्वराः सर्वे स्मर्तव्या यत्र कुत्रचित् ॥ महाविपत्समुद्रांतः पतंतं पांति मानवम्

ime gaṇeśvarāḥ sarve smartavyā yatra kutracit || mahāvipatsamudrāṁtaḥ pataṁtaṁ pāṁti mānavam

"All these lords of the ganas are to be remembered anywhere at all; they protect a man who is falling within the ocean of great calamity."

Verse 118 (skanda.4.57.118)

इति स्तुतिं महापुण्यां श्रुत्वा चैतान्विनायकान् ॥ जातुविघ्नैर्नबाध्येत पापेभ्योपि प्रहीयते

iti stutiṁ mahāpuṇyāṁ śrutvā caitānvināyakān || jātuvighnairnabādhyeta pāpebhyopi prahīyate

"Thus, having heard this greatly sacred hymn and the names of these Vinayakas, one is never afflicted by obstacles, and is freed even from sins."

Verse 119 (skanda.4.57.119)

इत्युक्त्वा देवदेवोपि महोत्सवितमानसः ॥ कृताभिषेको ब्रह्माद्यैस्तेभ्यो दत्त्वाभिवांछितम्

ityuktvā devadevopi mahotsavitamānasaḥ || kṛtābhiṣeko brahmādyaistebhyo dattvābhivāṁchitam

Having said this, the God of Gods, his mind filled with great festivity, was anointed by Brahma and the others, and having granted them their desired boons...

Verse 120 (skanda.4.57.120)

संप्रसाद्य यथायोगं सर्वानुचित चंचुरः ॥ अविशद्राजसदनं विश्वकर्मविनिर्मितम्

saṁprasādya yathāyogaṁ sarvānucita caṁcuraḥ || aviśadrājasadanaṁ viśvakarmavinirmitam

...having graciously satisfied everyone as was fitting, the swift-moving god entered the royal palace built by Vishvakarma.

Verse 121 (skanda.4.57.121)

॥स्कंद उवाच॥ एवं स्तुतो भगवता देवदेवेन विघ्नजित् ॥ इत्थं च बहुधात्मानं स चकार विनायकः

||skaṁda uvāca|| evaṁ stuto bhagavatā devadevena vighnajit || itthaṁ ca bahudhātmānaṁ sa cakāra vināyakaḥ

Skanda said: "Thus was Vighnajit praised by the Lord, the God of Gods; and thus did Vinayaka make himself into many forms."

Verse 122 (skanda.4.57.122)

एतानि तस्य नामानि ढुंढिराजस्य कुंभज ॥ जपित्वा यानि मनुजो लप्स्यते निजवांछितम्

etāni tasya nāmāni ḍhuṁḍhirājasya kuṁbhaja || japitvā yāni manujo lapsyate nijavāṁchitam

"These, O jar-born one, are the names of that Dhundhiraja; reciting them, a man shall obtain what he himself desires."

Verse 123 (skanda.4.57.123)

अन्येपि तत्र वै भेदास्तस्य ढुंढेर्गणेशितुः ॥ भक्तैः समर्चिता भक्त्या ह्यसंख्याताः सहस्रशः

anyepi tatra vai bhedāstasya ḍhuṁḍhergaṇeśituḥ || bhaktaiḥ samarcitā bhaktyā hyasaṁkhyātāḥ sahasraśaḥ

"There are other forms too, indeed, of that lord of the ganas, Dhundhi, worshipped with devotion by his devotees - innumerable, by the thousands."

Verse 124 (skanda.4.57.124)

भगीरथगणाध्यक्षो हरिश्चंद्रविनायकः ॥ कपर्दाख्यो गणपतिस्तथा बिंदुविनायकः

bhagīrathagaṇādhyakṣo hariścaṁdravināyakaḥ || kapardākhyo gaṇapatistathā biṁduvināyakaḥ

"Bhagiratha, lord of the ganas; Harishchandra-Vinayaka; the Ganapati named Kaparda; and likewise Bindu-Vinayaka..."

Verse 125 (skanda.4.57.125)

इत्याद्यास्तत्र विघ्नेशाः प्रतिभक्तप्रतिष्ठिताः ॥ तेषामप्यर्चनात्पुंसां जायंते सर्वसंपदः

ityādyāstatra vighneśāḥ pratibhaktapratiṣṭhitāḥ || teṣāmapyarcanātpuṁsāṁ jāyaṁte sarvasaṁpadaḥ

"...these and other lords of obstacles are established there for each devotee; by worshipping them too, all manner of prosperity arises for men."

Verse 126 (skanda.4.57.126)

श्रुत्वाध्यायमिमं पुण्यं नरः श्रद्धासमन्वितः ॥ सर्वविघ्नान्समुत्सृज्य लभते वांछितं पदम्

śrutvādhyāyamimaṁ puṇyaṁ naraḥ śraddhāsamanvitaḥ || sarvavighnānsamutsṛjya labhate vāṁchitaṁ padam

A man who, filled with faith, hears this sacred chapter, casting off every obstacle, attains the state he desires.
