The Glory of Hansa Tirtha

Verse 1 (skanda.5.351.1)

श्रीमार्कण्डेय उवाच। ततो गच्छेद्धराधीश हंसतीर्थमनुत्तमम्। यत्र हंसस्तपस्तप्त्वा ब्रह्मवाहनतां गतः

śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca| tato gacchedharādhīśa haṁsatīrthamanuttamam| yatra haṁsastapastaptvā brahmavāhanatāṁ gataḥ

Shri Markandeya said: O lord of the earth, then one should go to the unequalled Hansa Tirtha, where the swan, performing austerity, attained the position of Brahma's vehicle.

Verse 2 (skanda.5.351.2)

हंसतीर्थे नरः स्नात्वा दानं दत्त्वा च काञ्चनम्। सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो ब्रह्मलोकं स गच्छति

haṁsatīrthe naraḥ snātvā dānaṁ dattvā ca kāñcanam| sarvapāpavinirmukto brahmalokaṁ sa gacchati

Having bathed at Hansa Tirtha and given a gift of gold, a man, freed from all sin, goes to the world of Brahma.

Verse 3 (skanda.5.351.3)

हंसयुक्तेन यानेन तरुणादित्यवर्चसा। सर्वकामसमृद्धेन सेव्यमानोऽप्सरोगणैः

haṁsayuktena yānena taruṇādityavarcasā| sarvakāmasamṛddhena sevyamāno'psarogaṇaiḥ

In a chariot yoked with swans, radiant as the rising sun, abounding in every delight, attended by hosts of apsaras—

Verse 4 (skanda.5.351.4)

तत्र भुक्त्वा यथाकामं सर्वान् भोगान् यथेप्सितान्। जातिस्मरो हि जायेत पुनर्मानुष्यमागतः

tatra bhuktvā yathākāmaṁ sarvān bhogān yathepsitān| jātismaro hi jāyeta punarmānuṣyamāgataḥ

having there enjoyed at will every desired pleasure, upon returning again to human birth he becomes one who remembers his past lives.

Verse 5 (skanda.5.351.5)

संन्यासेन त्यजेद्देहं मोक्षमाप्नोति भारत

saṁnyāsena tyajeddehaṁ mokṣamāpnoti bhārata

O descendant of Bharata, by renunciation he relinquishes the body and attains liberation.

Verse 6 (skanda.5.351.6)

एतत्ते कथितं पार्थ हंसतीर्थस्य यत्फलम्। सर्वपापहरं पुण्यं सर्वदुःखविनाशनम्

etatte kathitaṁ pārtha haṁsatīrthasya yatphalam| sarvapāpaharaṁ puṇyaṁ sarvaduḥkhavināśanam

O Partha, thus has the fruit of Hansa Tirtha been told to you — sacred, removing all sin, and destroying every sorrow.
