The Glory of Deva Tirtha

Verse 1 (skanda.5.356.1)

श्रीमार्कण्डेय उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महीपाल देवतीर्थमनुत्तमम्। यत्र सिद्धा महाभागा देवाः सेन्द्रा युधिष्ठिर

śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca| tato gacchenmahīpāla devatīrthamanuttamam| yatra siddhā mahābhāgā devāḥ sendrā yudhiṣṭhira

Shri Markandeya said: O king, then one should go to that unequalled Deva Tirtha, O Yudhishthira, where the illustrious gods, together with Indra, attained accomplishment.

Verse 2 (skanda.5.356.2)

स्नानं दानं जपो होमः स्वाध्यायो देवतार्चनम्। तत्र तीर्थप्रभावेन कृतमानन्त्यमश्नुते

snānaṁ dānaṁ japo homaḥ svādhyāyo devatārcanam| tatra tīrthaprabhāveṇa kṛtamānantyamaśnute

Bathing, giving gifts, recitation, fire-oblation, sacred study, and worship of the gods — whatever is performed there attains infinite fruit through the power of that tirtha.

Verse 3 (skanda.5.356.3)

विशेषाद्भाद्रपदे तु कृष्णपक्षे त्रयोदशीम्। प्रधानं सर्वतीर्थानां देवैरध्यासितं पुरा

viśeṣādbhādrapade tu kṛṣṇapakṣe trayodaśīm| pradhānaṁ sarvatīrthānāṁ devairadhyāsitaṁ purā

Especially on the thirteenth day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada; this is foremost among all tirthas, having in ancient times been inhabited by the gods.

Verse 4 (skanda.5.356.4)

स्नात्वा त्रयोदशीदिने श्राद्धं कृत्वा विधानतः। देवैः संस्थापितं देवं सम्पूज्य वृषभध्वजम्। सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो रुद्रलोकमवाप्नुयात्

snātvā trayodaśīdine śrāddhaṁ kṛtvā vidhānataḥ| devaiḥ saṁsthāpitaṁ devaṁ sampūjya vṛṣabhadhvajam| sarvapāpavinirmukto rudralokamavāpnuyāt

Bathing on the thirteenth day, duly performing the shraddha rite, and worshipping the bull-bannered god installed by the gods, one, freed from all sin, attains the realm of Rudra.
