The Greatness of Kameshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.5.84.1)

हर उवाच। विद्धि कामेश्वरं देवि तत्र लिंगं त्रयोदशम्। यस्य दर्शनमात्रेण सौभाग्यं जायते शुभम्

hara uvāca| viddhi kāmeśvaraṁ devi tatra liṁgaṁ trayodaśam| yasya darśanamātreṇa saubhāgyaṁ jāyate śubham

Hara said: "Know the thirteenth linga there, O Devi, as Kameshvara; by the mere sight of whom auspicious good fortune is born."

Verse 2 (skanda.5.84.2)

ब्रह्मणो ध्यायमानस्य प्रजाकामस्य पार्वति। उत्पन्नोऽर्कप्रभाकारो लावण्यनिचयो महान्। अलंकारावृतः कांतो दिव्यमंडनमंडितः

brahmaṇo dhyāyamānasya prajākāmasya pārvati| utpanno'rkaprabhākāro lāvaṇyanicayo mahān| alaṁkārāvṛtaḥ kāṁto divyamaṁḍanamaṁḍitaḥ

O Parvati, from Brahma, meditating with the desire for progeny, there sprang forth one radiant as the sun, a great treasury of loveliness, covered in ornaments, charming, adorned with divine finery.

Verse 3 (skanda.5.84.3)

तं दृष्ट्वा परमं दिव्यं कांतं सौभाग्यशोभितम्। अप्रतर्क्यमविज्ञेयं ब्रह्मा प्रोवाच तं तदा

taṁ dṛṣṭvā paramaṁ divyaṁ kāṁtaṁ saubhāgyaśobhitam| apratarkyamavijñeyaṁ brahmā provāca taṁ tadā

Beholding him, supremely divine, charming, resplendent with good fortune, inconceivable and unknowable, Brahma then spoke to him —

Verse 4 (skanda.5.84.4)

को भवान्किं निमित्तं तु इह वा किमुपागतः। वद त्वं मन्मथाकार कंदर्प इव लक्ष्यमे

ko bhavānkiṁ nimittaṁ tu iha vā kimupāgataḥ| vada tvaṁ manmathākāra kaṁdarpa iva lakṣyame

"Who are you? For what reason, and why have you come here? Speak, O one of the form of Manmatha — you appear to me like Kandarpa himself."

Verse 5 (skanda.5.84.5)

ब्रह्मणो वचनं श्रुत्वा प्रोक्तं तेनैव सादरम्। अहं ते सृष्टिकामस्य भावेन विहितोंशकः। प्रजापते महाभाग किं करोमि दिशस्व माम्

brahmaṇo vacanaṁ śrutvā proktaṁ tenaiva sādaram| ahaṁ te sṛṣṭikāmasya bhāvena vihitoṁśakaḥ| prajāpate mahābhāga kiṁ karomi diśasva mām

Hearing Brahma's words, he replied with reverence: "O great and glorious Prajapati, I am a portion of you, brought forth by your own desire for creation; command me — what shall I do?"

Verse 6 (skanda.5.84.6)

ब्रह्मोवाच। मया तु सृष्टिकामेन ये प्रजापतयः कृताः। न ते शक्ताः प्रजाः स्रष्टुं कामैते सुखमाप्नुयुः

brahmovāca| mayā tu sṛṣṭikāmena ye prajāpatayaḥ kṛtāḥ| na te śaktāḥ prajāḥ sraṣṭuṁ kāmaite sukhamāpnuyuḥ

Brahma said: "The Prajapatis I have made, out of my desire for creation, are not able to bring forth offspring, unless they obtain pleasure through desire."

Verse 7 (skanda.5.84.7)

त्वमग्रणीः प्रजासर्गे त्वदधीनमिदं जगत्। कुरु सृष्टिं विचित्रां च कंदर्प मम शासनात्

tvamagraṇīḥ prajāsarge tvadadhīnamidaṁ jagat| kuru sṛṣṭiṁ vicitrāṁ ca kaṁdarpa mama śāsanāt

"You are foremost in the creation of offspring; this world is dependent upon you. Perform this wondrous act of creation, O Kandarpa, by my command."

Verse 8 (skanda.5.84.8)

इत्युक्तो ब्रह्मणा देवि जगामादर्शनं स्मरः। क्रुद्धेन ब्रह्मणा शप्तो विनाशं यास्यसि ध्रुवम्। मद्वचो न कृतं यस्माद्भवनेत्रोद्भवाग्निना

ityukto brahmaṇā devi jagāmādarśanaṁ smaraḥ| kruddhena brahmaṇā śapto vināśaṁ yāsyasi dhruvam| madvaco na kṛtaṁ yasmādbhavanetrodbhavāgninā

O Devi, thus addressed by Brahma, Smara (Kama) vanished from sight; then Brahma, enraged, cursed him: "Since my word was not obeyed, you shall surely go to your destruction by the fire born from Shiva's eye."

Verse 9 (skanda.5.84.9)

तच्छ्रुत्वा दारुणं शापं कंदर्पो भयविह्वलः। ब्रह्माणं प्रणतो भूत्वा प्रह्वः प्रांजलिरब्रवीत्

tacchrutvā dāruṇaṁ śāpaṁ kaṁdarpo bhayavihvalaḥ| brahmāṇaṁ praṇato bhūtvā prahvaḥ prāṁjalirabravīt

Hearing that dreadful curse, Kandarpa, overcome with fear, bowed before Brahma, and, humbled, hands folded, spoke —

Verse 10 (skanda.5.84.10)

प्रसीद देवदेवेश अनन्यगतिके मयि। नहि निर्भरतां यांति प्रभूणामाश्रिते रुषः

prasīda devadeveśa ananyagatike mayi| nahi nirbharatāṁ yāṁti prabhūṇāmāśrite ruṣaḥ

"Be gracious, O lord of the gods of gods, to me who have no other refuge; for the anger of masters does not endure toward one who has taken shelter with them."

Verse 11 (skanda.5.84.11)

ब्रह्मोवाच। यस्मात्ते भक्तिरतुला ममोपरि महामते। तस्मात्स्थानानि दत्तानि तव द्वादश संख्यया

brahmovāca| yasmātte bhaktiratulā mamopari mahāmate| tasmātsthānāni dattāni tava dvādaśa saṁkhyayā

Brahma said: "Since your devotion to me, O wise one, is unequalled, therefore twelve stations are granted to you."

Verse 12 (skanda.5.84.12)

कामिनीनां कटाक्षेषु केशपाशेषु चैव हि। जघनस्तननाभौ तु दोर्मूलेऽधरपल्लवे

kāminīnāṁ kaṭākṣeṣu keśapāśeṣu caiva hi| jaghanastananābhau tu dormūle'dharapallave

"— in the sidelong glances of women, in their tresses of hair, in the hip, the breasts and the navel, at the root of the arm and in the petal of the lower lip —"

Verse 13 (skanda.5.84.13)

वसंते कोकिलालापे ज्योत्स्नायां जलदागमे। कामार्थे च मया दत्तौ सबलौ मधुमाधवौ

vasaṁte kokilālāpe jyotsnāyāṁ jaladāgame| kāmārthe ca mayā dattau sabalau madhumādhavau

"— in the springtime, in the cuckoo's call, in the moonlight, and at the coming of the rain-clouds. And for your work I have also given you the two mighty months, Madhu and Madhava."

Verse 14 (skanda.5.84.14)

स्त्रियोऽमृतमया धन्या संसारे सारकारणम्। रतेश्चैव निधानानि संतानार्थं विनिर्मिताः

striyo'mṛtamayā dhanyā saṁsāre sārakāraṇam| rateścaiva nidhānāni saṁtānārthaṁ vinirmitāḥ

"Women, nectar-natured and blessed, are the very cause of the essence of worldly existence; they are treasuries of delight, fashioned for the sake of progeny."

Verse 15 (skanda.5.84.15)

एताभिर्वरनारीभिर्जगदेवं वशीकृतम्। स्त्रीभिरासक्तमनसः कुतः पुंसो मनस्विता

etābhirvaranārībhirjagadevaṁ vaśīkṛtam| strībhirāsaktamanasaḥ kutaḥ puṁso manasvitā

"By these excellent women this whole world has been brought under sway; how can a man whose mind clings to women retain steadiness of mind?"

Verse 16 (skanda.5.84.16)

कृतश्चापि स्ववशता स्त्रीगौरवगतस्य च। स्त्रिय एव विनाशाय पूर्वेषाममरद्विषाम्

kṛtaścāpi svavaśatā strīgauravagatasya ca| striya eva vināśāya pūrveṣāmamaradviṣām

"For one caught up in reverence for women, even his own self-mastery is undone; women alone have been the cause of the destruction of the ancient enemies of the gods."

Verse 17 (skanda.5.84.17)

स्त्रिय एव हि देवानामिंद्रादीनां भयाश्रयाः। नारीभिर्लब्धवृत्तेश्च पुरुषस्यापि सर्वतः

striya eva hi devānāmiṁdrādīnāṁ bhayāśrayāḥ| nārībhirlabdhavṛtteśca puruṣasyāpi sarvataḥ

"Women alone have become the refuge of fear even for the gods, Indra and the rest; and for a man whose conduct is governed by women, everywhere —"

Verse 18 (skanda.5.84.18)

पराभवः प्रभवति विवशत्वं च भीषणम्। स्त्रीभिराजितचित्तस्य सुलभो विपदोदयः

parābhavaḥ prabhavati vivaśatvaṁ ca bhīṣaṇam| strībhirājitacittasya sulabho vipadodayaḥ

"— defeat arises, and a terrible helplessness besides; for a man whose mind has been conquered by women, misfortune arises with ease."

Verse 19 (skanda.5.84.19)

इत्युक्तो मन्मथो भद्रे ब्रह्मणा च विसर्जितः। दत्त्वा वै पुष्पकं चापं तथा वै बाणपंचकम्

ityukto manmatho bhadre brahmaṇā ca visarjitaḥ| dattvā vai puṣpakaṁ cāpaṁ tathā vai bāṇapaṁcakam

Having said this, O gentle one, Brahma dismissed Manmatha, granting him a bow of flowers and the five arrows.

Verse 20 (skanda.5.84.20)

रतिप्रीतिसमायुक्तो झषकेतुर्मनोभवः। विडंबयति लोकांस्त्रीन्ससहायो धनुर्धरः

ratiprītisamāyukto jhaṣaketurmanobhavaḥ| viḍaṁbayati lokāṁstrīnsasahāyo dhanurdharaḥ

Then, joined with Rati and Priti, the fish-bannered one, Manobhava, bow in hand and accompanied by his companion, bewilders the three worlds.

Verse 21 (skanda.5.84.21)

पंडितांस्तापसान्वीरान्सुधियश्च जितेंद्रियान्। काले कुशलभावज्ञान्देवान्पितृगणांस्तथा

paṁḍitāṁstāpasānvīrānsudhiyaśca jiteṁdriyān| kāle kuśalabhāvajñāndevānpitṛgaṇāṁstathā

He bewilders scholars, ascetics, heroes, the wise, those of subdued senses, those learned in knowing the right season, the gods, and the ancestors as well.

Verse 22 (skanda.5.84.22)

भूतप्रेतपिशाचांश्च यक्षगंधर्वकिंनरान्। कृमिकीटपतंगांश्च भूतग्रामं चतुर्विधम्

bhūtapretapiśācāṁśca yakṣagaṁdharvakiṁnarān| kṛmikīṭapataṁgāṁśca bhūtagrāmaṁ caturvidham

Ghosts, spirits, and demons, yakshas, gandharvas, and kinnaras, worms, insects, and moths — the fourfold host of beings, all he bewilders.

Verse 23 (skanda.5.84.23)

ममार्थे च कृतो यत्नश्चिंतयित्वा पुनःपुनः। दुःसाध्यः शंकरो देवः श्रूयते भुवनत्रये। तस्य देवस्य कः शक्तः क्षोभणार्थं मया विना

mamārthe ca kṛto yatnaściṁtayitvā punaḥpunaḥ| duḥsādhyaḥ śaṁkaro devaḥ śrūyate bhuvanatraye| tasya devasya kaḥ śaktaḥ kṣobhaṇārthaṁ mayā vinā

"For my sake he made repeated effort, thinking again and again: 'The god Shankara is known throughout the three worlds as exceedingly hard to move; who but I is capable of stirring that god?'"

Verse 24 (skanda.5.84.24)

इत्युक्त्वा तु समायातो यत्राहं तपसि स्थितः। रत्या युतः स गर्वेण सख्याऽयं मधुनाश्रितः

ityuktvā tu samāyāto yatrāhaṁ tapasi sthitaḥ| ratyā yutaḥ sa garveṇa sakhyā'yaṁ madhunāśritaḥ

Having said this, joined with Rati, filled with pride, and attended by his friend Madhu (spring), he came to where I sat in austerity.

Verse 25 (skanda.5.84.25)

दृष्टवान्मां तदा कामः पिंजकूटजटासटम्। किंचिन्निमित्ततोऽनिद्रं भोगींद्रकृतभूषणम्

dṛṣṭavānmāṁ tadā kāmaḥ piṁjakūṭajaṭāsaṭam| kiṁcinnimittato'nidraṁ bhogīṁdrakṛtabhūṣaṇam

Then Kama beheld me — my matted locks tawny, sleepless for some reason, adorned with the ornaments of the serpent-king.

Verse 26 (skanda.5.84.26)

प्रेक्षमाणमृजुस्थानं नासावंशाग्र लोचनम्। ततोऽवमरकाकारमालंब्याश्रयमात्रकम्। प्रविष्टः कररंध्रेण मदनो हृदये मम

prekṣamāṇamṛjusthānaṁ nāsāvaṁśāgra locanam| tato'vamarakākāramālaṁbyāśrayamātrakam| praviṣṭaḥ kararaṁdhreṇa madano hṛdaye mama

Seeing me seated erect, my gaze fixed on the tip of my nose, then, seizing upon a mere trifling opening, Madana entered my heart through the gap of my hand.

Verse 27 (skanda.5.84.27)

रत्यर्थं कामतप्तेन संस्मृता भवती मया। समाधेर्भावना दिव्या लक्ष्यप्रत्यक्षरूपिणी। गता मम विमलता तत्क्षणादेव पार्वति

ratyarthaṁ kāmataptena saṁsmṛtā bhavatī mayā| samādherbhāvanā divyā lakṣyapratyakṣarūpiṇī| gatā mama vimalatā tatkṣaṇādeva pārvati

Tormented by desire, I remembered you, O Parvati, longing for union; and the divine meditative state, that vision made manifest before my eyes, departed that very instant from my purity.

Verse 28 (skanda.5.84.28)

उन्मत्ततां गतोऽहं वै विकृतिं मदनात्मिकाम्। निराकृतं मया देवि धैर्यमालंब्य यत्नतः

unmattatāṁ gato'haṁ vai vikṛtiṁ madanātmikām| nirākṛtaṁ mayā devi dhairyamālaṁbya yatnataḥ

I fell into a frenzy, a disturbance born of desire; but, O Devi, by effort and by taking hold of resolve, I cast it off.

Verse 29 (skanda.5.84.29)

दृष्टो मयात्महृदये मन्मथोऽपथ्यकारकः। देहस्थं निर्दहिष्यामि प्रत्याहारप्रयोगतः

dṛṣṭo mayātmahṛdaye manmatho'pathyakārakaḥ| dehasthaṁ nirdahiṣyāmi pratyāhāraprayogataḥ

I beheld in my own heart that harmful Manmatha, and resolved: "I shall burn him, dwelling in the body, through the practice of withdrawal of the senses."

Verse 30 (skanda.5.84.30)

अमानुषीं व्रजेद्योनिं योगिनं प्रविशेद्यदि। बाह्याग्नौ धारणां कृत्वा देहसंस्थे विनिर्दहेत्

amānuṣīṁ vrajedyoniṁ yoginaṁ praviśedyadi| bāhyāgnau dhāraṇāṁ kṛtvā dehasaṁsthe vinirdahet

"Should this desire enter into a yogi, he would descend to a non-human birth; let him, fixing concentration on the outer fire, burn it out where it dwells in the body."

Verse 31 (skanda.5.84.31)

एतस्मिन्नंतरे सोऽपि संतप्तो मदनो भृशम्। इच्छाशरीरो दुर्ज्ञेयो निःसृतो व्यसनात्मकः

etasminnaṁtare so'pi saṁtapto madano bhṛśam| icchāśarīro durjñeyo niḥsṛto vyasanātmakaḥ

Meanwhile that Madana too became greatly agitated; possessed of a body of pure desire, hard to fathom, of the nature of passion, he issued forth.

Verse 32 (skanda.5.84.32)

सहकारतरोर्मूले भूत्वा मधुसखस्तदा। मुमोच मोहनं नाम मार्गणं मकरध्वजः

sahakāratarormūle bhūtvā madhusakhastadā| mumoca mohanaṁ nāma mārgaṇaṁ makaradhvajaḥ

Standing at the root of a mango tree, the friend of Madhu, the makara-bannered one, then loosed the arrow named Mohana (bewilderment).

Verse 33 (skanda.5.84.33)

स चापि हृदये प्राप्तो मदीये लीलया शरः। ततोहं कुपितो देवि नेत्रं कृत्वा तृतीयकम्

sa cāpi hṛdaye prāpto madīye līlayā śaraḥ| tatohaṁ kupito devi netraṁ kṛtvā tṛtīyakam

That arrow too struck playfully into my heart; then, O Devi, enraged, I opened my third eye —

Verse 34 (skanda.5.84.34)

तन्नेत्रविस्फुलिंगेन क्रोशतां नाकवासिनाम्। गमितो भस्मसात्तूर्णं कंदर्पः कामिदर्पकः

tannetravisphuliṁgena krośatāṁ nākavāsinām| gamito bhasmasāttūrṇaṁ kaṁdarpaḥ kāmidarpakaḥ

— and by the spark of that eye, amid the cries of the dwellers of heaven, Kandarpa, the crusher of lovers' pride, was instantly reduced to ashes.

Verse 35 (skanda.5.84.35)

तस्मिन्दग्धे ततः कामे रतिः शोकपरायणा। विललाप सुदुःखार्ता पतिभक्तिपरायणा

tasmindagdhe tataḥ kāme ratiḥ śokaparāyaṇā| vilalāpa suduḥkhārtā patibhaktiparāyaṇā

When Kama had been thus consumed, Rati, given over to grief, devoted wholly to her husband, wailed, overcome with deep sorrow.

Verse 36 (skanda.5.84.36)

हा नाथ हा मम प्राण हा स्वामिन्किं जहासि माम्। पतिव्रतां पतिप्राणां कस्मान्मां त्यजसि प्रभो

hā nātha hā mama prāṇa hā svāminkiṁ jahāsi mām| pativratāṁ patiprāṇāṁ kasmānmāṁ tyajasi prabho

"Alas, my lord! Alas, my life! Alas, my husband, why do you abandon me? O lord, why do you forsake me, faithful to my husband, my very life bound up in him?"

Verse 37 (skanda.5.84.37)

एवं च विलपंतीं तां वागुवा चाशरीरिणी। मा त्वं रुद विशालाक्षि पुनरेष पतिस्तव। प्रसादाद्देवदेवस्य उत्थास्यति शिवस्य च

evaṁ ca vilapaṁtīṁ tāṁ vāguvā cāśarīriṇī| mā tvaṁ ruda viśālākṣi punareṣa patistava| prasādāddevadevasya utthāsyati śivasya ca

As she wailed thus, a bodiless voice spoke: "Weep not, O large-eyed one; by the grace of the god of gods, Shiva, this your husband shall rise again."

Verse 38 (skanda.5.84.38)

प्रार्थितोऽहं ततो देवि तस्मिन्नवसरे प्रिये। एष कामस्त्वया दग्धः क्रोधेन परमेश्वर। येनानेन प्रभो नष्टा सृष्टिर्वै धरणीतले

prārthito'haṁ tato devi tasminnavasare priye| eṣa kāmastvayā dagdhaḥ krodhena parameśvara| yenānena prabho naṣṭā sṛṣṭirvai dharaṇītale

Then, O Devi, at that moment a plea was made to me: "O supreme lord, this Kama has been burnt by your wrath, by which, O Lord, creation upon the earth has been ruined."

Verse 39 (skanda.5.84.39)

कृपां विधेहि देवेश दीनायै देहि मे पतिम्। ततोऽहमब्रुवं देवि तां रतिं दीनभाषिणीम्

kṛpāṁ vidhehi deveśa dīnāyai dehi me patim| tato'hamabruvaṁ devi tāṁ ratiṁ dīnabhāṣiṇīm

"O lord of gods, show mercy; give back my husband to me, wretched as I am." Then, O Devi, I said to Rati, who spoke thus in her distress —

Verse 40 (skanda.5.84.40)

अनेन मदनेनाद्य कृतं तरलितं मनः। ततो दग्धं मयास्यांगं जीवये त्वत्प्रसादतः

anena madanenādya kṛtaṁ taralitaṁ manaḥ| tato dagdhaṁ mayāsyāṁgaṁ jīvaye tvatprasādataḥ

"— this Madana had today made my mind unsteady, and so I burnt his body; but now, at your entreaty, I shall bring it to life again."

Verse 41 (skanda.5.84.41)

अंगं दग्धं मयास्याद्य तृतीयनेत्रवह्निना। तस्मादनंग एवैष प्रजासु विचरिष्यति

aṁgaṁ dagdhaṁ mayāsyādya tṛtīyanetravahninā| tasmādanaṁga evaiṣa prajāsu vicariṣyati

"But his body has today been consumed by the fire of my third eye; therefore he shall henceforth roam among creatures bodiless, as Ananga."

Verse 42 (skanda.5.84.42)

अनंगोऽपि यदावंत्यां लिंगं संसेवयिष्यति। देवानामनुकंपार्थमनंगोऽसौ कृतो मया। त्रिदशैश्च समादिष्टः कामोऽवंत्यां जगाम ह

anaṁgo'pi yadāvaṁtyāṁ liṁgaṁ saṁsevayiṣyati| devānāmanukaṁpārthamanaṁgo'sau kṛto mayā| tridaśaiśca samādiṣṭaḥ kāmo'vaṁtyāṁ jagāma ha

"When this bodiless one comes to serve the linga in Avanti..." Out of compassion for the gods I made him bodiless; and, instructed by the gods, Kama went to Avanti.

Verse 43 (skanda.5.84.43)

तत्र गत्वा ह्यनंगोऽपि भक्तिभावसमन्वितः। ददर्श परमं लिंगं समीहितफलप्रदम्

tatra gatvā hyanaṁgo'pi bhaktibhāvasamanvitaḥ| dadarśa paramaṁ liṁgaṁ samīhitaphalapradam

Having gone there, Ananga too, filled with devotion, beheld that supreme linga, granter of desired fruit.

Verse 44 (skanda.5.84.44)

प्रोक्तं तुष्टेन लिंगेन काम काममवाप्स्यसि। अनंगोऽपि समर्थस्त्वं भविष्यसि न संशयः

proktaṁ tuṣṭena liṁgena kāma kāmamavāpsyasi| anaṁgo'pi samarthastvaṁ bhaviṣyasi na saṁśayaḥ

The linga, well pleased, declared: "O Kama, you shall obtain your desire; even bodiless, you shall become capable once more, without doubt."

Verse 45 (skanda.5.84.45)

जन्म प्राप्स्यति रुक्मिण्या गर्भे कृष्णस्य संगमात्। भविता विश्रुतो लोके नाम्ना शंबरसूदनः

janma prāpsyati rukmiṇyā garbhe kṛṣṇasya saṁgamāt| bhavitā viśruto loke nāmnā śaṁbarasūdanaḥ

"You shall take birth in the womb of Rukmini, through union with Krishna; you shall become renowned in the world by the name Shambarasudana."

Verse 46 (skanda.5.84.46)

अनंगेन त्वया यस्मान्मनसा तोषि तोऽपि सन्। तस्मात्ख्यातिं गमिष्यामि त्वन्नाम्ना काम सर्वदा

anaṁgena tvayā yasmānmanasā toṣi to'pi san| tasmātkhyātiṁ gamiṣyāmi tvannāmnā kāma sarvadā

"Since you, though bodiless, have thus pleased me in mind, therefore, O Kama, I shall ever go by your name and become renowned as such."

Verse 47 (skanda.5.84.47)

ये त्वां पश्यंति कंदर्पं भक्त्या परमया युताः। प्राप्नुवंति गतिं नित्यं ते सदानंददायिकाम्

ye tvāṁ paśyaṁti kaṁdarpaṁ bhaktyā paramayā yutāḥ| prāpnuvaṁti gatiṁ nityaṁ te sadānaṁdadāyikām

"Those who behold you, O Kandarpa, endowed with supreme devotion, attain the eternal state, ever bestowing bliss."

Verse 48 (skanda.5.84.48)

दीर्घायुषो भविष्यंति रूपं तेषां भविष्यति। कुलं च निर्मलं तेषां ये त्वां पश्यंति मन्मथ

dīrghāyuṣo bhaviṣyaṁti rūpaṁ teṣāṁ bhaviṣyati| kulaṁ ca nirmalaṁ teṣāṁ ye tvāṁ paśyaṁti manmatha

"They shall be long-lived, and their beauty shall be theirs; and their lineage too shall be spotless, O Manmatha, for those who behold you."

Verse 49 (skanda.5.84.49)

ऐश्वर्यं परमान्भोगान्स्त्रियो दिव्यकलान्विताः। अरोगा संततिस्तेषां भविष्यति न संशयः

aiśvaryaṁ paramānbhogānstriyo divyakalānvitāḥ| arogā saṁtatisteṣāṁ bhaviṣyati na saṁśayaḥ

"Prosperity shall be theirs, supreme enjoyments, wives endowed with divine arts; and their offspring shall be free of illness, without doubt."

Verse 50 (skanda.5.84.50)

चैत्रशुक्लत्रयोदश्यां ये मां पश्यंति भक्तितः। देवलोकं समासाद्य मोदिष्यंति हि ते नराः

caitraśuklatrayodaśyāṁ ye māṁ paśyaṁti bhaktitaḥ| devalokaṁ samāsādya modiṣyaṁti hi te narāḥ

"Those who behold me with devotion on the thirteenth of the bright fortnight of Chaitra shall, upon reaching the world of the gods, rejoice indeed."

Verse 51 (skanda.5.84.51)

यक्षा गणेश्वराः सिद्धाः सिद्धगंधर्वसेविताः। रुद्रलोकं गमिष्यंति विमानैः सर्वकामिकैः

yakṣā gaṇeśvarāḥ siddhāḥ siddhagaṁdharvasevitāḥ| rudralokaṁ gamiṣyaṁti vimānaiḥ sarvakāmikaiḥ

As yakshas, lords of the ganas, siddhas, attended by siddhas and gandharvas, they shall go to the world of Rudra in celestial cars that grant every wish.

Verse 52 (skanda.5.84.52)

इत्युक्तः कामदेवोपि लिंगेन परमेश्वरि। तत्राश्रमपदं चक्रे तस्य लिंगस्य संनिधौ

ityuktaḥ kāmadevopi liṁgena parameśvari| tatrāśramapadaṁ cakre tasya liṁgasya saṁnidhau

O supreme goddess, thus addressed by the linga, Kamadeva made his own hermitage there, close by that linga.

Verse 53 (skanda.5.84.53)

एष ते कथितो देवि प्रभावः पापनाशनः। कामेश्वरस्य शृण्वग्रे कुटुंबेश्वरवैभवम्

eṣa te kathito devi prabhāvaḥ pāpanāśanaḥ| kāmeśvarasya śṛṇvagre kuṭuṁbeśvaravaibhavam

This, O Devi, is the sin-destroying glory of Kameshvara that I have told you; now hear next the majesty of Kutumbeshvara.
