The Glory of Lakshmaneshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.112.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि लक्ष्मणेश्वरमुत्तमम्। रामेशात्पूर्वदिग्भागे धनुस्त्रिंशकसंस्थितम्॥

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi lakṣmaṇeśvaramuttamam| rāmeśātpūrvadigbhāge dhanustriṃśakasaṃsthitam||

Ishvara said: Thereafter, O great goddess, one should go to the excellent Lakshmaneshvara, situated to the east of Rameshvara, at a distance of thirty bow-lengths.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.112.2)

स्थापितं लक्ष्मणेनैव तत्र यात्रागतेन वै। महापापहरं देवि तल्लिंगं सुरपूजितम्॥

sthāpitaṃ lakṣmaṇenaiva tatra yātrāgatena vai| mahāpāpaharaṃ devi talliṃgaṃ surapūjitam||

There, O goddess, that linga, remover of great sins and worshipped by the gods, was established by Lakshmana himself when he came there on the pilgrimage.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.112.3)

यस्तं पूजयते भक्त्या नृत्यगीतादिवादनैः। होमजाप्यैः समाधिस्थः स याति परमां गतिम्॥

yastaṃ pūjayate bhaktyā nṛtyagītādivādanaiḥ| homajāpyaiḥ samādhisthaḥ sa yāti paramāṃ gatim||

Whoever worships it with devotion, with dance, song, and music, with fire-offerings and japa, absorbed in meditation, attains the supreme goal.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.112.4)

अन्नोदकं हिरण्यं च तत्र देयं द्विजातये। संपूज्य देवदेवेशं गंधपुष्पादिभिः क्रमात्॥

annodakaṃ hiraṇyaṃ ca tatra deyaṃ dvijātaye| saṃpūjya devadeveśaṃ gaṃdhapuṣpādibhiḥ kramāt||

There, having worshipped the god of gods duly with sandal-paste, flowers and the rest, food, water, and gold should be given to the twice-born.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.112.5)

माघे कृष्णचतुर्दश्यां विशेषस्तत्र पूजने। स्नानं दानं जपस्तत्र भवेदक्षयकारकम्॥

māghe kṛṣṇacaturdaśyāṃ viśeṣastatra pūjane| snānaṃ dānaṃ japastatra bhavedakṣayakārakam||

On the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight of Magha, worship there holds special importance; bathing, giving of gifts, and recitation performed there yield imperishable fruit.
