The Glory of Brahma-kunda

Chapter 146All chaptersChapter 148

Verse 1 (skanda.7.147.1)

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi brahmakuṇḍamanuttamam| tasyaiva nairṛte bhāge brahmaṇā nirmitaṁ purā

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to the incomparable Brahma-kunda, in the south-west portion of that very place, made long ago by Brahma.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.147.2)

yadā tu ṛkṣarājena somanāthaḥ pratiṣṭhitaḥ| tadā brahmādayo devāḥ sarve tatra samāgatāḥ| pratiṣṭhārthaṁ hi devasya śaśāṁkena nimantritāḥ

When Somanatha was established by the lord of stars, the Moon, then Brahma and all the gods gathered there, invited by Shashanka for the consecration of the god.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.147.3)

athā'bravīnniśānātho brahmāṇaṁ vinayānvitaḥ

Then the lord of night, filled with humility, spoke to Brahma:

Verse 4 (skanda.7.147.4)

kṛtaṁ bhavadbhirjānāti sthāpanaṁ vai yathā janaḥ| tathā kuru suraśreṣṭha cihnamātmasamudbhavam

'O best of gods, make some sign born of yourself, so that people may know that this consecration was indeed done by you.'

Verse 5 (skanda.7.147.5)

evaṁ śrutvā tadā brahmā dhyānaṁ kṛtvā tu niścalam| āhvayatsarvatīrthāni puṣkarādīni sarvaśaḥ

Having heard this, Brahma then entered unwavering meditation and summoned all the sacred fords, beginning with Pushkara, from every quarter.

Verse 6 (skanda.7.147.6)

svarge vai yāni tīrthāni tathaiva ca rasātale| tapaḥsāmarthyayogena brahmaṇā'ākarṣitāni ca| atastasyaiva nāmnā tu brahmakuṇḍaṁ tu gīyate

Whatever sacred fords exist in heaven and likewise in the netherworld were all drawn together by Brahma through the power of his austerity; therefore it is sung of by his own name as Brahma-kunda.

Verse 7 (skanda.7.147.7)

gaṇānāṁ ca sahasraistu caturdaśabhirīkṣyate| ataścābhaktiyuktānāṁ duṣprāpyaṁ tīrthamuttamam

It is watched over by fourteen thousand ganas; therefore this excellent tirtha is hard to attain for those devoid of devotion.

Verse 8 (skanda.7.147.8)

athābravītsarvadevānbrahmā lokapitāmahaḥ

Then Brahma, the grandfather of the worlds, said to all the gods:

Verse 9 (skanda.7.147.9)

atra kuṇḍe naraḥ snātvā yaḥ pitṝṁstarpayiṣyati| agniṣṭomaphalaṁ sadyo lapsyate sa ca mānavaḥ| tatprasādātsvargaloke vimānena cariṣyati

Whatever man, having bathed in this pond, offers libation to the ancestors, that man instantly obtains the fruit of the Agnishtoma sacrifice; by that grace he shall move about the heavenly world in a celestial chariot.

Verse 10 (skanda.7.147.10)

godānaṁ cāśvadānaṁ ca tathā svarṇakamaṇḍalum| dadyādviprāya viduṣe sarvapāpāpanuttaye

The gift of a cow, the gift of a horse, and likewise a golden water-pot should be given to a learned Brahmin, for the removal of all sins.

Verse 11 (skanda.7.147.11)

paurṇamāsyāṁ mahādevi tathā ca pratipaddine| sarvapāpavināśārthaṁ tatra snāti sarasvatī

O great Goddess, on the full-moon day and likewise on the first lunar day, Sarasvati herself bathes there for the destruction of all sin.

Verse 12 (skanda.7.147.12)

siddhaṁ rasāyanaṁ devi tatra vai hyudakaṁ priye| nānāvarṇasamāyuktamupadeśena siddhyati

O Devi, O beloved, the water there is indeed an accomplished elixir; endowed with various hues, it becomes efficacious through proper instruction.

Verse 13 (skanda.7.147.13)

dāridryaduḥkharukchokānmānavaḥ sevate katham| brahmakuṇḍamanuprāpya kalpavṛkṣamivāparam

Having reached the Brahma-kunda, which is like another wish-fulfilling tree, how can a man continue to suffer poverty, sorrow, disease, and grief?

Verse 14 (skanda.7.147.14)

devyuvāca| bhagavanvistarādbrūhi brahmakuṇḍamahodayam| sarvaprāṇihitārthāya vistarādvada me prabho

Devi said: O Lord, tell in detail the great glory of the Brahma-kunda; for the welfare of all beings, tell me, O Lord, in full.

Verse 15 (skanda.7.147.15)

brahmakuṁḍasya māhātmyaṁ śrotuṁ me kautukaṁ mahat| lokānāṁ duḥkhanāśāya dāridryakṣayahetave

I have great eagerness to hear the glory of the Brahma-kunda, for the destruction of the world's sorrows and the end of poverty.

Verse 16 (skanda.7.147.16)

bhagavanmānuṣāḥ sarve duḥkhaśokanipīḍitāḥ| bhramaṁti sakalaṁ janma rasāyanavimohitāḥ

O Lord, all men, afflicted by sorrow and grief, wander through their entire life, deluded by the pursuit of the elixir.

Verse 17 (skanda.7.147.17)

teṣāṁ hitāya me brūhi nirvāṇaṁ rasamuttamam| ādāviha śarīraṁ tu akṣayyaṁ tu yathā bhavet

For their benefit tell me of that supreme, liberating elixir—first, how this body here may become imperishable,

Verse 18 (skanda.7.147.18)

aṣṭasiddhisamāyuktaṁ sarvavidyāsamanvitam| kāmarūpaṁ kriyāyuktaṁ sarvavyādhivivarjitam

endowed with the eight siddhis, possessed of all knowledge, able to take any form at will, capable of action, and free from every disease,

Verse 19 (skanda.7.147.19)

tatastu paramaṁ deva nirvāṇaṁ yena vai labhet| mānavaḥ kṛtakṛtyaśca jāyate ca yathā prabho

and then, O God, tell how by that a man may attain supreme liberation, and how, O Lord, he becomes one whose purpose is fulfilled,

Verse 20 (skanda.7.147.20)

tathā kathaya me deva dayāṁ kṛtvā jagatprabho| nirvāṇaparamaṁ kalpaṁ sarvabhrāntivivarjitam| prasiddhaṁ sukhadaṁ divyaṁ samācakṣva maheśvara

So tell me thus, O God, out of compassion, O lord of the world; O Maheshvara, declare fully the well-known, joy-giving, divine method leading to supreme liberation, free from all confusion.

Verse 21 (skanda.7.147.21)

īśvara uvāca| sādhusādhu mahādevi lokānāṁ hitakāriṇi| martyaloke mahādevi tīrthavaraṁ śubham

Ishvara said: Well said, well said, O great Goddess, benefactress of the worlds! O great Goddess, in the world of mortals there is an auspicious, excellent tirtha—

Verse 22 (skanda.7.147.22)

prabhāsaṁ paramaṁ khyātaṁ tacca dvādaśayojanam| tatra someśvaro devastriṣu lokeṣu viśrutaḥ

—Prabhasa, supremely renowned, extending twelve yojanas; there the god Someshvara is famed throughout the three worlds.

Verse 23 (skanda.7.147.23)

tasya pūrve samākhyātaḥ śrīkṛṣṇo daityasūdanaḥ| caṇḍikā yoginī tatra sakhībhiḥ parivāritā

To its east is renowned Shri Krishna, the slayer of demons; there too the yogini Chandika dwells, surrounded by her companions.

Verse 24 (skanda.7.147.24)

tataḥ pūrve diśāṁ bhāge caturvaktreṇa nirmitam| tīrthāttīrthaṁ varaṁ divyaṁ sarvāścaryamayaṁ śubham

Then, in the eastern quarter, is a tirtha made by the four-faced one—excelling every other tirtha, divine, full of every wonder, and auspicious,

Verse 25 (skanda.7.147.25)

sevitaṁ sarvadevaistu siddhaiḥ sādhyairgrahaistathā| apsaromunibhirdivyairyakṣaiśca pannagaiḥ sadā

ever served by all the gods, by Siddhas, Sadhyas, and the planetary deities, by celestial Apsarases and divine sages, by Yakshas and serpents,

Verse 26 (skanda.7.147.26)

siddhyarthaṁ sarvakāmārthaṁ divyabhogāvahaṁ śubham| brahmakuṇḍamiti khyātaṁ brahmaṇā nirmitaṁ yataḥ

for the sake of accomplishment and every desire, bestowing divine enjoyment, auspicious—it is known as Brahma-kunda, since it was made by Brahma.

Verse 27 (skanda.7.147.27)

tasya vāyavyakoṇe tu hiraṇyeśaḥ svayaṁ sthitaḥ| tamārādhya mahādevaṁ hiraṇyeśvaramuttamam

In its north-west corner stands Hiranyesha himself; having worshipped that excellent great god Hiranyeshvara,

Verse 28 (skanda.7.147.28)

mahāmantraṁ japetkṣipraṁ daśāṁśaṁ homayetsudhīḥ| homena siddhyate mantraḥ satyaṁ satyaṁ varānane

one should swiftly recite the great mantra; the wise should offer a tenth part in homa; by the homa the mantra becomes efficacious—true, O fair-faced one, most true.

Verse 29 (skanda.7.147.29)

tasyottare tu digbhāge kiñcidīśānamāśritaḥ| caturvaktro mahādevi kṣetrapo liṁgarūpadhṛk

To its north, O great Goddess, somewhat toward the north-east, resides the four-faced Kshetrapa, bearing the form of a linga.

Verse 30 (skanda.7.147.30)

tatsthānaṁ rakṣate devi liṁgarūpeṇa śaṁkaraḥ| tamārādhya prayatnena tataḥ kuṇḍaṁ samāśrayet

O Devi, Shankara, in the form of a linga, protects that place; having worshipped him with effort, one should then resort to the pond.

Verse 31 (skanda.7.147.31)

sarvaiśvaryamayaṁ devi nānāvarṇavicitritam| kuṇḍasyāsyeśadigbhāge bhairaveśvaramuttamam

Full of every majesty, O Devi, variegated with many colors—in the north-east quarter of the pond stands the excellent Bhairaveshvara.

Verse 32 (skanda.7.147.32)

O Devi, a foul-smelling yet radiant stream flows there in the form of an elixir; joined with its essence, things take on distinct, variegated colors.

Verse 33 (skanda.7.147.33)

meghavarṇaṁ mahādivyaṁ rājataṁ ca punaḥ śubham| kapilaṁ dugdhavarṇaṁ ca karpūrābhaṁ suśobhanam

sometimes of the color of a cloud, greatly divine, and again silvery and auspicious; sometimes tawny, sometimes milk-white, and exceedingly beautiful like camphor,

Verse 34 (skanda.7.147.34)

kadā kastūrikābhāsaṁ kuṁkumacchavikāvaham| saugandhaṁ caṁdanopetaṁ kadācidraudhirodakam

sometimes bearing the sheen of musk, carrying the hue of saffron; sometimes fragrant and endowed with sandal, and sometimes like water tinged with blood—

Verse 35 (skanda.7.147.35)

ete rasāśca vividhā dṛśyaṁte tatra sarvadā| yasya tuṣṭo mahādevaḥ siddhyate tasya tatkṣaṇāt

these various elixirs are always seen there; for him with whom Mahadeva is pleased, it becomes efficacious for him that very instant.

Verse 36 (skanda.7.147.36)

rajataṁ kṣipyate tatra suvarṇamiva jāyate| pratyakṣameva tatraiva rasāyanamanuttamam

Silver, when cast there, becomes as if turned to gold; that incomparable elixir manifests there directly, before one's very eyes.

Verse 37 (skanda.7.147.37)

paśyaṁti mānavā devi kautukaṁ tatkṣaṇādbhṛśam| rasaṁ hi paramaṁ divyaṁ tatrasthaṁ ca kalau yuge

O Devi, men behold that great wonder at that very instant; the supreme, divine elixir abides there even in the Kali age.

Verse 38 (skanda.7.147.38)

siddhaṁ siddharasaṁ puṁsāṁ vyādhīnāṁ kṣayakārakam| hemabījamayaṁ divyaṁ brahmakuṇḍodbhavaṁ mahat

That accomplished elixir, destroying the diseases of men, of the nature of a golden seed, divine and great, arises from the Brahma-kunda.

Verse 39 (skanda.7.147.39)

idānīṁ te pravakṣyāmi manuṣyāṇāṁ hitāya vai| dāridryaṁ kṣayamāpnoti tatkṣaṇācca yaśasvini

Now I shall tell you, for the benefit of men, O illustrious one, that by which poverty comes to destruction instantly.

Verse 40 (skanda.7.147.40)

ādāveva prakurvanti tāmrakumbhaṁ dṛḍhaṁ śubham| tīrthodakaṁ kṣipettatra patraistāmrastathā yutam

First, one should make a sturdy, auspicious copper pot; into it should be poured the sacred water, together with copper plates.

Verse 41 (skanda.7.147.41)

nikṣipya bhūmau tatkumbhaṁ jvālayedanalaṁ tataḥ| cuhlīrūpeṇa ṣaṇmāsaṁ pācayettaṁ śanaiḥśanaiḥ

Having set that pot on the ground, one should then kindle a fire beneath it, and in the manner of a furnace cook it slowly, little by little, for six months.

Verse 42 (skanda.7.147.42)

paścāduddhṛtya taṁ kumbhaṁ punareva jalaṁ kṣipet| māsamekaṁ punaḥ kuryānmāsamekaṁ punarbhṛśam

Afterward, having taken down that pot, one should again pour in water; this should be done again for one month, and once more with great care for another month.

Verse 43 (skanda.7.147.43)

tataḥ sarvāṇi khaṇḍāni ekīkṛtya prayatnataḥ| punarevodakenaiva plāvya cāvartayetpunaḥ

Then, having carefully united all the fragments into one, one should again inundate it with water alone, and repeat the process once more.

Verse 44 (skanda.7.147.44)

kāṁcanaṁ jāyate tatra yadi tuṣṭo maheśvaraḥ

There, gold comes to be produced, if Maheshvara is pleased.

Verse 45 (skanda.7.147.45)

siddhiṁ śarīrajāṁ devi yadīcchenmānavottamaḥ| sa snānamāditaḥ kṛtvā saṁvatsaratrayaṁ punaḥ

O Devi, if the best of men desires the siddhi born of the body, he, having first performed the bathing, should then, for three years more—

Verse 46 (skanda.7.147.46)

maunena niyamenaiva mahāmaṁtrajapānvitaḥ| pūjayecca hiraṇyeśaṁ kṣetrapālaṁ prayatnataḥ

maintaining silence and strict discipline, engaged in the recitation of the great mantra, worship with effort Hiranyesha, the Kshetrapala,

Verse 47 (skanda.7.147.47)

paṁcopacārasaṁyuktaṁ dhyānadhāraṇasaṁyutam| tīrthodakena pākaṁ vai peyaṁ tadvadudumbare

with the five offerings, joined with meditation and concentration; food cooked with the sacred water should likewise be taken from a vessel of udumbara wood.

Verse 48 (skanda.7.147.48)

evaṁ varṣatrayeṇaiva divyadehaḥ prajāyate| tejasvī balavānprājñaḥ sarvavyādhivivarjitaḥ

Thus, in just three years, a divine body is produced—radiant, strong, wise, and free from every disease.

Verse 49 (skanda.7.147.49)

jīvedvarṣaśatānyeva trīṇi duḥkhavivarjitaḥ| varṣatrayamavicchinnaṁ yastatra snānamācaret

Whoever performs bathing there uninterruptedly for three years shall live three hundred years, free from sorrow.

Verse 50 (skanda.7.147.50)

vāgīśvarīṁ japennityaṁ pūjāhomasamanvitaḥ| tasya pravartate vāṇī siddhiḥ sārasvatī bhavet

Whoever daily recites the mantra of Vagishvari, joined with worship and homa, his speech begins to flow, and the accomplishment of Sarasvati becomes his.

Verse 51 (skanda.7.147.51)

saṁskṛtaṁ prākṛtaṁ caivāpabhraṁśaṁ bhūtabhāṣitam| gāṁgasrotaḥpravāheṇa udgiredgiramātmavān| aśrāntāṁ ca varārohe hyavicchinnāṁ ca saṁtatam

Sanskrit, Prakrit, Apabhramsha, and the speech of spirits—the self-possessed one pours forth in speech like the current of the Ganga's stream, O fair-hipped one, untiring and continuously unbroken,

Verse 52 (skanda.7.147.52)

vadedvādisahasraistu na śramastasya jāyate| tīrthasyāsya prabhāveṇa sarvaśāstraviśāradāḥ

he can debate with a thousand disputants, and no fatigue befalls him; through the power of this tirtha, he becomes skilled in all the scriptures.

Verse 53 (skanda.7.147.53)

paṁḍitā garvitāḥ sarve tarkaśāstraviśāradāḥ| āgacchaṁti samaṁ tāta vidyayoddhatakandharāḥ| na śaknuvaṁti te vaktuṁ draṣṭuṁ vaktramapi priye

All the proud pandits, skilled in the science of logic, their necks held high with the pride of learning, O dear one, come to contend with him equally; but, O beloved, they are unable even to speak, nor even to look upon his face.

Verse 54 (skanda.7.147.54)

vādināṁ ca sahasrāṇi bhanaktyevaṁ nirīkṣaṇāt

Thus, by his mere glance, he shatters and defeats thousands of disputants.

Verse 55 (skanda.7.147.55)

udvāhayati śāstrāṇi vibuddhārthāni satvaram| vimalaṁ pāñcarātraṁ ca vaiṣṇavaṁ śaivameva ca

He swiftly expounds the scriptures with their meanings fully understood—the pure Pancharatra, the Vaishnava, and likewise the Shaiva,

Verse 56 (skanda.7.147.56)

itihāsapurāṇaṁ ca bhūtataṁtraṁ ca gāruḍam| bhairavaṁ ca mahātaṁtraṁ kulamārgaṁ dvidhā priye

the Itihasas and Puranas, the Bhuta-tantra and the Garuda-tantra, the Bhairava great tantra, and, O beloved, the twofold Kula path.

Verse 57 (skanda.7.147.57)

rathapravaravegena vāṇī cāskhalitā bhavet| naśyaṁti vādinaḥ sarve garuḍasyeva pannagāḥ

His speech, unfaltering, moves with the speed of the finest chariot; all disputants perish before him as serpents perish before Garuda.

Verse 58 (skanda.7.147.58)

na dāridryaṁ na rogaśca na duḥkhaṁ mānasaṁ punaḥ| rājamānyo mahāmānī bhavedbrahmaprasādataḥ

Neither poverty nor disease, nor again mental sorrow, befalls him; by the grace of Brahma he becomes honored by kings and greatly esteemed.

Verse 59 (skanda.7.147.59)

utsāhabalasaṁyukto devavajjīvate sudhīḥ| dātā bhoktā ca vāgmī ca tīrthasyāsya prasādataḥ

Endowed with vigor and strength, the wise one lives like a god; by the grace of this tirtha he becomes generous, a true enjoyer, and eloquent.

Verse 60 (skanda.7.147.60)

tailābhyaktasya yattejo jāyate manujeṣu ca| snātamātre tathā tejastīrthasyaiva prasādataḥ

Whatever radiance arises in men anointed with oil, that same radiance arises merely from bathing here, by the grace of this tirtha alone.

Verse 61 (skanda.7.147.61)

yatpāpaṁ kurute jaṁtuḥ paiśunyaṁ ca kṛtaghnatām| mitradrohe ca yatpāpaṁ yatpāpaṁ pāradārikam| tatsarvaṁ vilayaṁ yāti kuṁḍasnānaratasya ca

Whatever sin a creature commits—slander and ingratitude, whatever sin lies in betraying a friend, whatever sin lies in adultery—all of that dissolves away for one devoted to bathing in the pond.

Verse 62 (skanda.7.147.62)

muśalaṁ laṅghayedyastu yo gāstyajati vai dvijaḥ| tatpāpaṁ kṣayamāpnoti brahmakuṇḍasya darśanāt

Whoever steps over a pestle, or whatever Brahmin abandons his cows—that sin too comes to an end through the sight of the Brahma-kunda.

Verse 63 (skanda.7.147.63)

pṛthivyāṁ yāni tīrthāni daivatāni tathā punaḥ| pūjitāni ca sarvāṇi kuṇḍasnānaprabhāvataḥ

Whatever sacred fords there are on earth, and likewise whatever deities, all of them are honored through the power of bathing in the pond.

Verse 64 (skanda.7.147.64)

saptajanmārjitaṁ pāpaṁ darśanātkṣayamāvrajet

Sin accumulated over seven births comes to its destruction through mere sight of it.

Verse 65 (skanda.7.147.65)

yatpāpaṁ gurugoghne ca parasvaharaṇeṣu ca| tatpāpaṁ kṣayamāpnoti brahmakuṇḍaniṣevaṇāt

Whatever sin lies in the slaying of a guru or a cow, and in the theft of another's property—that sin comes to an end through resort to the Brahma-kunda.

Verse 66 (skanda.7.147.66)

pradakṣiṇaṁ ca yaḥ kuryātsnātvā kuṇḍasya nāmataḥ| saṁkhyayā paṁcadaśa vai śṛṇu tasyāpi yatphalam

And whoever, having bathed, performs circumambulation of the pond fifteen times by count—hear too what fruit is his:

Verse 67 (skanda.7.147.67)

pradakṣiṇīkṛtā tena saptadvīpā vasundharā| saptapātālasahitā tīrthakoṭibhirāvṛtā

by him has been circumambulated the earth of seven continents, together with the seven nether-worlds, encompassed by tens of millions of sacred fords.

Verse 68 (skanda.7.147.68)

āhāramātraṁ yo dadyāttatra vedavidāṁ vare| lakṣabhojyaṁ kṛtaṁ tena tīrthasyāsya prabhāvataḥ

Whoever gives merely a meal there to the foremost of the knowers of the Veda—by him, through the power of this tirtha, the feeding of a hundred thousand has been accomplished.

Verse 69 (skanda.7.147.69)

brahmeśvaraṁ ca saṁpūjya hiraṇyeśvaramuttamam| kṣetrapālaṁ caturvaktraṁ pūjayeccintitaṁ labhet

Having worshipped Brahmeshvara and the excellent Hiranyeshvara, and having worshipped the four-faced Kshetrapala, one obtains whatever one desires.

Verse 70 (skanda.7.147.70)

ekaviṁśatkulairyuktaḥ sarvapāpavivarjitaḥ| brahmalokaṁ sa vai yāti nātra kāryā vicāraṇā

Together with twenty-one generations of his lineage, freed from all sin, he indeed goes to the world of Brahma; no doubt need be entertained on this point.

Verse 71 (skanda.7.147.71)

viraṁcikuṇḍe snātvā vā yo japedvedamātaram| lakṣajāpyavidhānena sa muktaḥ pātakairbhavet

Or whoever, having bathed in Virinchi's pond, recites the Mother of the Vedas according to the rule of a hundred-thousand-fold repetition, becomes freed from sins.

Verse 72 (skanda.7.147.72)

sa eva puṇyakarttā ca sa eva puruṣottamaḥ| yātrā tatra kṛtā yena brahmakuṇḍe varānane

O fair-faced one, he alone is the doer of merit, he alone is the best of men, by whom pilgrimage has been made there to the Brahma-kunda.

Verse 73 (skanda.7.147.73)

aṣṭāśītisahasrāṇi ṛṣīṇāmūrdhvaretasām| brahmakuṇḍaṁ samāśritya brahmadevamupāsate

Eighty-eight thousand seers of upward-flowing seed, having taken refuge in the Brahma-kunda, worship the god Brahma there.

Verse 74 (skanda.7.147.74)

tāvadgarjaṁti tīrthāni trailokye sacarācare| yāvadbrahmeśvaraṁ tīrthaṁ na paśyaṁti narāḥ priye

O beloved, the sacred fords throughout the three worlds, with all that moves and moves not, continue to boast only so long as men have not beheld the tirtha of Brahmeshvara.

Verse 75 (skanda.7.147.75)

brahmakuṇḍe ca pānīyaṁ ye pibaṁti narāḥ sakṛt| na teṣāṁ saṁkrametpāpaṁ vācikaṁ mānasaṁ tanau

Whatever men drink the water of the Brahma-kunda even once, upon their bodies no sin—verbal, mental, or physical—shall come to pass.

Verse 76 (skanda.7.147.76)

brahmāṁḍottaramadhye tu yāni tīrthāni saṁti vai| teṣāṁ puṇyamavāpnoti brahmakuṇḍe pradakṣiṇāt

Whatever sacred fords exist in the upper and middle regions of the universe, one obtains their merit through circumambulation of the Brahma-kunda.

Verse 77 (skanda.7.147.77)

yājñavalkyo mahātmā ca parabrahmasvarūpavān| so'pi kuṁḍaṁ na muṁceta nikuṁbhastu gaṇastathā

Even the great soul Yajnavalkya, of the very nature of the supreme Brahman, does not leave this pond; and likewise the gana named Nikumbha remains there too.

Verse 78 (skanda.7.147.78)

iti saṁkṣepataḥ proktaṁ māhātmyaṁ brahmakuṇḍajam| tava snehena deveśi kimanyatparipṛcchasi

Thus has the glory arising from the Brahma-kunda been told in brief; O queen of gods, out of affection for you—what else do you now wish to ask?

Verse 79 (skanda.7.147.79)

ya idaṁ śṛṇuyānmartyaḥ samyakśraddhāsamanvitaḥ| sa muktaḥ pātakaiḥ sarvairbrahmalokaṁ ca gacchati

Whatever mortal hears this, endowed with true faith, he, freed from all sins, goes to the world of Brahma.
