The Glory of Bhairaveshvara

Verse 1 (skanda.7.149.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि भैरवेश्वरमुत्तमम्। ब्रह्मकुण्डस्य ईशाने स्थितं पापप्रणाशनम्। चतुर्वक्त्रं महादेवं संस्थितं तीर्थरक्षणे

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi bhairaveśvaramuttamam| brahmakuṇḍasya īśāne sthitaṁ pāpapraṇāśanam| caturvaktraṁ mahādevaṁ saṁsthitaṁ tīrtharakṣaṇe

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to the excellent Bhairaveshvara, the sin-destroying, four-faced great god, situated in the north-east of Brahma-kunda, stationed for the protection of the tirtha.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.149.2)

तत्र स्नात्वा महाकुण्डे यस्तं पूजयते नरः। पंचोपचारविधिना भक्तियुक्तो यतेन्द्रियः

tatra snātvā mahākuṇḍe yastaṁ pūjayate naraḥ| paṁcopacāravidhinā bhaktiyukto yatendriyaḥ

Whatever man, having bathed in the great pond there, worships him with the rite of the five offerings, endowed with devotion and controlled senses,

Verse 3 (skanda.7.149.3)

कुलानि यान्यतीतानि भविष्याणि च यानि वै। तारयेत्स नरो देवि नात्र कार्या विचारणा

kulāni yānyatītāni bhaviṣyāṇi ca yāni vai| tārayetsa naro devi nātra kāryā vicāraṇā

that man saves all the generations of his lineage, both those that have passed and those yet to come, O Devi; no doubt need be entertained on this.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.149.4)

न चात्र संभवस्तस्य विनाशो नैव जायते। विमानैश्चरते नित्यं दिवाकरसमप्रभैः

na cātra saṁbhavastasya vināśo naiva jāyate| vimānaiścarate nityaṁ divākarasamaprabhaiḥ

For him there is no further birth here, nor does destruction ever befall him; he moves about forever in celestial chariots of splendor equal to the sun.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.149.5)

स्त्रीसहस्रैर्वृतो नित्यं क्रीडते देववद्दिवि

strīsahasrairvṛto nityaṁ krīḍate devavaddivi

Surrounded always by a thousand women, he sports in heaven like a god.

Verse 6 (skanda.7.149.6)

एतल्लिंगं महादेवि चतुर्वक्त्रं महाप्रभम्। दृष्ट्वापि तद्विमुच्येत सर्वपापैस्तु मानवः

etalliṁgaṁ mahādevi caturvaktraṁ mahāprabham| dṛṣṭvāpi tadvimucyeta sarvapāpaistu mānavaḥ

O great Goddess, merely by beholding this four-faced linga of great splendor, a man is freed from all sins.
