The Glory of Savitrishvara-Bhairava

Verse 1 (skanda.7.151.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। तस्यैव दक्षिणे भागे तृतीयो भैरवः स्थितः। ब्रह्मकुण्डसमीपे तु सावित्र्या संप्रतिष्ठितः

īśvara uvāca| tasyaiva dakṣiṇe bhāge tṛtīyo bhairavaḥ sthitaḥ| brahmakuṇḍasamīpe tu sāvitryā saṁpratiṣṭhitaḥ

Ishvara said: In the southern part of that very place stands a third Bhairava, well established near Brahma-kunda by Savitri.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.151.2)

आराध्य तत्र देवेशं देवानां प्रपितामहम्। वायुभक्षा निराहारा तोषयामास शंकरम्

ārādhya tatra deveśaṁ devānāṁ prapitāmaham| vāyubhakṣā nirāhārā toṣayāmāsa śaṁkaram

Living on air alone, without food, she worshipped there the lord of gods, the great-grandfather of the gods, and satisfied Shankara.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.151.3)

तुष्टः प्राहेश्वरो देवि शंकरस्तां वराननाम्

tuṣṭaḥ prāheśvaro devi śaṁkarastāṁ varānanām

Pleased, O Devi, the lord Shankara spoke to that fair-faced one:

Verse 4 (skanda.7.151.4)

योऽस्मिन्कुंडे नरः स्नात्वा मल्लिंगं पूजयिष्यति। पौर्णमास्यां विधानेन गन्धपुष्पादिभिः क्रमात्

yo'sminkuṁḍe naraḥ snātvā malliṁgaṁ pūjayiṣyati| paurṇamāsyāṁ vidhānena gandhapuṣpādibhiḥ kramāt

'Whatever man, having bathed in this pond, shall worship my linga on the full-moon day, according to rule, in due order with fragrance, flowers, and the like,'

Verse 5 (skanda.7.151.5)

दास्यामि तस्य वरानिष्टान्मनसाऽभीप्सिताञ्छुभान्

dāsyāmi tasya varāniṣṭānmanasā'bhīpsitāñchubhān

'—to him I shall give the desired, auspicious boons wished for in his heart.'

Verse 6 (skanda.7.151.6)

महापातकयुक्तोऽपि मुक्तो भवति पातकैः। सर्वकामसमृद्धात्मा स भूयाद्वृषभध्वजः

mahāpātakayukto'pi mukto bhavati pātakaiḥ| sarvakāmasamṛddhātmā sa bhūyādvṛṣabhadhvajaḥ

'Even one laden with great sins shall become freed from those sins; his soul enriched with every desire fulfilled, may he attain oneness with the Bull-bannered god.'

Verse 7 (skanda.7.151.7)

इत्येवमुक्त्वा देवेशि ततोऽन्तर्धानमागतः। सावित्री ब्रह्मलोके तु गता संस्थाप्य शंकरम्

ityevamuktvā deveśi tato'ntardhānamāgataḥ| sāvitrī brahmaloke tu gatā saṁsthāpya śaṁkaram

O queen of gods, having spoken thus, he then vanished from sight; and Savitri, having established Shankara there, went to the world of Brahma.

Verse 8 (skanda.7.151.8)

इति संक्षेपतः प्रोक्तं सावित्रीशमहोदयम्। शृणुयाद्यस्तु मतिमान्स मुक्तः पातकैर्भवेत्

iti saṁkṣepataḥ proktaṁ sāvitrīśamahodayam| śṛṇuyādyastu matimānsa muktaḥ pātakairbhavet

Thus has the great glory of Savitrisha been told in brief; whatever wise man hears it becomes freed from sins.
