The Glory of Shalakatankata

Verse 1 (skanda.7.168.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि देवीं शालकटंकटाम्। सावित्र्या दक्षिणे भागे रैवतात्पूर्वतः स्थिताम्

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi devīṁ śālakaṭaṁkaṭām| sāvitryā dakṣiṇe bhāge raivatātpūrvataḥ sthitām

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to the goddess Shalakatankata, situated to the south of Savitri's site and to the east of Raivataka.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.168.2)

महापापोपशमनीं सर्वदुःखविनाशनीम्। पूजितां सर्वगन्धर्वैः स्फुरद्दंष्ट्रोग्रभीषणाम्

mahāpāpopaśamanīṁ sarvaduḥkhavināśanīm| pūjitāṁ sarvagandharvaiḥ sphuraddaṁṣṭrograbhīṣaṇām

She quells great sins and destroys all sorrows; worshipped by all the Gandharvas, terrible and fierce with her flashing fangs.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.168.3)

महाप्रचण्डदैत्यघ्नीं पौलस्त्येन प्रतिष्ठिताम्। महिषघ्नीं महाकायां क्षेत्रे प्राभासिके स्थिताम्

mahāpracaṇḍadaityaghnīṁ paulastyena pratiṣṭhitām| mahiṣaghnīṁ mahākāyāṁ kṣetre prābhāsike sthitām

The slayer of most ferocious demons, established by the descendant of Pulastya (Ravana), the slayer of the buffalo-demon, of vast form, abiding in the sacred field of Prabhasa.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.168.4)

माघे मासे चतुर्दश्यां यस्ता माराधयेन्नरः। स भवेत्पशुमान्धीमाँल्लक्ष्मीवान्पुत्रवान्सुधीः

māghe māse caturdaśyāṁ yastā mārādhayennaraḥ| sa bhavetpaśumāndhīmām̐llakṣmīvānputravānsudhīḥ

Whatever man worships her on the fourteenth day of the month of Magha becomes rich in cattle, wise, possessed of fortune, blessed with sons, and of good understanding.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.168.5)

यस्तां पशुप्रदानेन सन्तर्पयति भक्तितः। बलिपूजोपहारैश्च स स्याच्छत्रु विवर्जितः

yastāṁ paśupradānena santarpayati bhaktitaḥ| balipūjopahāraiśca sa syācchatru vivarjitaḥ

Whoever satisfies her with devotion through the offering of an animal, and with oblation, worship, and gifts, becomes free of enemies.
