The Glory of Durgaditya

Verse 1 (skanda.7.322.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि तस्य दक्षिणसंस्थितम्। दुर्गादित्येतिनामानं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi tasya dakṣiṇasaṁsthitam| durgādityetināmānaṁ sarvapāpapraṇāśanam

Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to the one situated to the south of that, named Durgaditya, destroyer of all sins.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.322.2)

यदा दुःखमनुप्राप्ता दुर्गा दुःखविनाशिनी। सूर्यमाराधयामास तदा दुःखविनुत्तये

yadā duḥkhamanuprāptā durgā duḥkhavināśinī| sūryamārādhayāmāsa tadā duḥkhavinuttaye

When Durga, the destroyer of sorrow, herself came to be afflicted by sorrow, she then worshipped Surya in order to dispel that sorrow.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.322.3)

ततः कालेन बहुना तस्यास्तुष्टो दिवाकरः। उवाच मधुरं वाक्यं दुर्गां देवो महाप्रभाम्। वरं वरय देवेशि तपसा तुष्टवानहम्

tataḥ kālena bahunā tasyāstuṣṭo divākaraḥ| uvāca madhuraṁ vākyaṁ durgāṁ devo mahāprabhām| varaṁ varaya deveśi tapasā tuṣṭavānaham

Then, after a long time, Surya, the god, pleased with her, spoke sweet words to the greatly resplendent Durga: 'O Devesi, choose a boon; I am satisfied by your austerity.'

Verse 4 (skanda.7.322.4)

दुर्गोवाच। यदि तुष्टो दिवानाथ दुःखसंघं विनाशय

durgovāca| yadi tuṣṭo divānātha duḥkhasaṁghaṁ vināśaya

Durga said: If you are pleased, O Lord of the Day, then destroy this mass of sorrow.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.322.5)

सूर्य उवाच। अचिरेणैव कालेन भगवांस्त्रिपुरांतकः। संप्राप्स्यत्युत्तमं लिंगमुन्नते स्थान उत्तमे

sūrya uvāca| acireṇaiva kālena bhagavāṁstripurāṁtakaḥ| saṁprāpsyatyuttamaṁ liṁgamunnate sthāna uttame

Surya said: In no long time, the Lord, the Slayer of Tripura, shall obtain his excellent linga at the excellent place of Unnata.

Verse 6 (skanda.7.322.6)

दुर्गादित्येति मे नाम इह देवि भविष्यति। एवमुक्त्वा महादेवि तत्रैवान्तर्दधे रविः। सप्तम्यां रविवारेण दुर्गादित्यं प्रपूजयेत्

durgādityeti me nāma iha devi bhaviṣyati| evamuktvā mahādevi tatraivāntardadhe raviḥ| saptamyāṁ ravivāreṇa durgādityaṁ prapūjayet

'My name here, O Goddess, shall be Durgaditya.' Having said this, O great Goddess, Surya vanished there itself. One should worship Durgaditya on a Sunday falling on the seventh lunar day.

Verse 7 (skanda.7.322.7)

तस्य दुःखानि सर्वाणि कुष्ठानि विविधानि च। विलयं यांति देवेशि दुर्गादित्यप्रपूजनात्

tasya duḥkhāni sarvāṇi kuṣṭhāni vividhāni ca| vilayaṁ yāṁti deveśi durgādityaprapūjanāt

O Devesi, all his sorrows and the various forms of leprosy come to dissolution through the worship of Durgaditya.
