The Glory of Madhumati, Pingeshvara and the Bhadra (within the Greatness of Taptodaka-svami)

Chapter 332All chaptersChapter 334

Verse 1 (skanda.7.333.1)

īśvara uvāca| balabhadrācca pūrveṇa sthitā cāsītsaridvarā| durvāseśvaranāmeti balaliṁgaṁ pratiṣṭhitam

Ishvara said: To the east of Balabhadra there stood an excellent river; there the linga of Bala is established, named Durvasesvara.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.333.2)

sarvapāpapraśamanaṁ dṛṣṭaṁ sarvasukhāvaham| snātvā cāsya tvamāvāsyāṁ piṁḍadānaṁ dadāti yaḥ

It is seen to pacify all sins and bring all happiness. Whoever bathes there and, on the new-moon day, offers the pinda-oblation,

Verse 3 (skanda.7.333.3)

kalpakoṭiśataṁ sāgraṁ pitṝṇāṁ tṛptimāvahet| durvāseśvaranāmānaṁ tatra pūjya vidhānataḥ

he brings satisfaction to his ancestors for a full hundred crore kalpas, having duly worshipped there the one named Durvasesvara.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.333.4)

koṭiyajñaphalaṁ prāpya sarvānkāmā navāpnuyāt| tatra liṁgānyanekāni ṛṣibhiḥ sthāpitāni tu

He obtains the merit of a crore sacrifices and attains all desires. There, many lingas were established there by the sages.

Verse 5 (skanda.7.333.5)

dṛṣṭvā spṛṣṭvā pūjayitvā muktaḥ syātsarvakilbiṣaiḥ| ityetatkathitaṁ devi kṣetrādyaṁ taṁ yathākramam

By seeing, touching and worshipping them, one is freed from all sins. Thus, O Devi, I have described to you this field from its beginning, in due order.

Verse 6 (skanda.7.333.6)

bhadrāyāḥ paścimātpūrvaṁ yathānukramamāditaḥ| śrutaṁ pāpopaśamanaṁ koṭiyajñaphalapradam

From the west of the Bhadra river eastward, in due sequence from the beginning, you have heard this account, which pacifies sin and grants the merit of a crore sacrifices.

Verse 7 (skanda.7.333.7)

atha kṣetrasya paridhisthānaṁ madhumatīti ca| tasmānnairṛtyadigbhāge sthānaṁ khaṁḍaghaṭeti ca

Now, the boundary-region of the field is called Madhumati; in the southwest direction from there is the place called Khandaghata.

Verse 8 (skanda.7.333.8)

tatra piṁgeśvaro devaḥ samudrataṭasannidhau| kūpānāṁ saptakaṁ tatra pitṝṇāṁ yatra pāṇayaḥ| dṛśyaṁte'dyāpi deveśi yatra parvaṇiparvaṇi

There, near the seashore, stands the god Pingeshvara; there are seven wells there, where, O Deveshi, the hands of the ancestors are still seen even today, on every sacred occasion.

Verse 9 (skanda.7.333.9)

tatra śrāddhaṁ naraḥ kṛtvā gayākoṭiguṇaṁ phalam| labhate nā'tra sandehaḥ somāmā yadi jāyate

A man who performs shraddha there obtains merit a crore times that of Gaya — there is no doubt of this — if it falls on the new-moon day conjoined with the moon.

Verse 10 (skanda.7.333.10)

tatraiva nātidūre tu bhadrāyāḥ saṁgamaḥ smṛtaḥ| paścimātsaṁgamātpūrvaḥ saṁgamaḥ samudāhṛtaḥ

Not far from there is remembered the confluence of the Bhadra; to the east of the western confluence, another confluence is spoken of.

Verse 11 (skanda.7.333.11)

yatpuṇyaṁ labhate devi pūrva paścimasaṁgame| gaṁgāsāgarayostatra tadbhadrāsaṁgame labhet

Whatever merit one obtains, O Devi, at the eastern and western confluences of the Ganga and the ocean, that same merit one obtains at the confluence of the Bhadra.
