The Glory of Ashapura Vighnaraja

Verse 1 (skanda.7.341.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। आशापूरं ततो गच्छेद्विघ्नराजमकल्मषम्। शशिभूषण वायव्ये संस्थितं विघ्ननाशनम्। आशां पूरयते यस्मात्तेनाशापूरकः स्मृतः

īśvara uvāca| āśāpūraṁ tato gacchedvighnarājamakalmaṣam| śaśibhūṣaṇa vāyavye saṁsthitaṁ vighnanāśanam| āśāṁ pūrayate yasmāttenāśāpūrakaḥ smṛtaḥ

Ishvara said: One should then go to the stainless Vighnaraja [Ganesha] known as Ashapura, situated to the northwest of Shashibhushana [the Moon-crowned Lord], the destroyer of obstacles. Since he fulfills every desire, he is remembered as Ashapuraka, the Fulfiller of Wishes.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.341.2)

यत्र रामेण देवेशि सीतया लक्ष्मणेन च। समाराध्य च विघ्नेशं प्राप्तं काममभीप्सितम्

yatra rāmeṇa deveśi sītayā lakṣmaṇena ca| samārādhya ca vighneśaṁ prāptaṁ kāmam abhīpsitam

O Devesi, this is the place where Rama, together with Sita and Lakshmana, worshipped Vighnesha and obtained his desired boon.

Verse 3 (skanda.7.341.3)

यत्र चंद्रमसा देवि समाराध्य गणाधिपम्। लब्धं तद्वांछितं पूर्वं सर्वकुष्ठविनाशनम्

yatra candramasā devi samārādhya gaṇādhipam| labdhaṁ tadvāñchitaṁ pūrvaṁ sarvakuṣṭhavināśanam

O Goddess, this is where the Moon, having worshipped Ganadhipa in ancient times, obtained his desired boon — the cure of all leprosy.

Verse 4 (skanda.7.341.4)

चतुर्थ्यां शुक्लपक्षे च मासि भाद्रपदे तथा। तत्र संपूज्य देवेशं मोदकैर्भोजयेद्द्विजान्

caturthyāṁ śuklapakṣe ca māsi bhādrapade tathā| tatra saṁpūjya deveśaṁ modakair bhojayed dvijān

On the fourth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada, one should worship the Lord God there and feed Brahmins with modakas (sweet dumplings).

Verse 5 (skanda.7.341.5)

वाञ्छितां लभते सिद्धिं विघ्नराजप्रसादतः। क्षेत्रस्यास्य महादेवि रक्षार्थं तु मया पुरा

vāñchitāṁ labhate siddhiṁ vighnarājaprasādataḥ| kṣetrasyāsya mahādevi rakṣārthaṁ tu mayā purā

By the grace of Vighnaraja, one obtains the accomplishment desired. O Great Goddess, for the protection of this sacred field, by me, in ancient times —

Verse 6 (skanda.7.341.6)

ततो नियुक्तो देवेशि यायिनां विघ्ननाशनः

tato niyukto deveśi yāyināṁ vighnanāśanaḥ

— O Devesi, this destroyer of obstacles was appointed here for the protection of travelers and pilgrims.
