The Glory of Narayana Tirtha

Verse 1 (skanda.7.358.1)

ईश्वर उवाच। ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि तीर्थं नारायणाभिधम्। तस्यैवेशानदिग्भागे वापी शांडिल्यकीर्तिता

īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi tīrthaṁ nārāyaṇābhidham| tasyaiveśānadigbhāge vāpī śāṁḍilyakīrtitā

Ishvara said: Thereafter, O great Goddess, one should go to the tirtha named Narayana. In its north-eastern (Ishana) quarter lies a step-well renowned by the name Shandilya.

Verse 2 (skanda.7.358.2)

स्नात्वा तत्रैव विधिवच्छांडिल्यं यः प्रपूजयेत्। ऋषिपंचम्यां विधिना नारी चैव पतिव्रता। स्पृष्ट्वास्पृष्ट्वा विमुच्येत रजोदोषभयाद्ध्रुवम्

snātvā tatraiva vidhivacchāṁḍilyaṁ yaḥ prapūjayet| ṛṣipaṁcamyāṁ vidhinā nārī caiva pativratā| spṛṣṭvāspṛṣṭvā vimucyeta rajodoṣabhayāddhruvam

One who bathes there and duly worships Shandilya, and likewise a devoted wife who worships according to rite on Rishi-panchami — whether she touches it or not, she is surely freed from the fear of the fault of menstrual impurity.
