Prabhasa Khanda · Chapter 97
The Glory of Yogeshvara
Verse 1 (skanda.7.97.1)
īśvara uvāca| tato gacchenmahādevi yogeśvaramiti śrutam| kāmeśādvāyave bhāge dhanuṣāṁ saptake sthitam
Ishvara said: Then, O great Goddess, one should go to what is known as Yogeshvara; situated to the northwest of Kamesha, at a distance of seven bows.
Verse 2 (skanda.7.97.2)
liṅgaṁ mahāprabhāvaṁ hi darśanātpāpanāśanam| pūrve yuge tu saṁkhyātaṁ gaṇeśvaramiti śrutam
A Linga of great power indeed, whose very sight destroys sin; in a former age it was reckoned and known by the name Ganeshvara.
Verse 3 (skanda.7.97.3)
purā mama gaṇā devi asaṁkhyātā mahāvalāḥ| kṣetraṁ māheśvaraṁ jñātvā prabhāsaṁ samupāgaman
Long ago, O Goddess, my innumerable and mighty ganas, having learned of the field sacred to Maheshvara, came together to Prabhasa.
Verse 4 (skanda.7.97.4)
tatrasthāśca tapo ghoraṁ tepuste yogamāśritāḥ| divyābdānāṁ sahasraṁ tu tatastuṣṭo maheśvaraḥ
Abiding there, resorting to yoga, they performed terrible austerity for a thousand divine years; then Maheshvara became pleased.
Verse 5 (skanda.7.97.5)
sālokyāṁ ca dadau muktiṁ teṣāṁ yogabalena| yasmātṣaḍaṁgayogena teṣāṁ tuṣṭo vṛṣadhvajaḥ| tena yogeśvaraṁ nāma liṅgaṁ yogaphalapradam
He granted them liberation in his own realm, through the power of their yoga; since the bull-bannered god was pleased with them through the sixfold yoga, thereby the Linga bears the name Yogeshvara, bestower of the fruit of yoga.
Verse 6 (skanda.7.97.6)
yastamarcayate bhaktyā samyakpūjāvidhānataḥ| sa yogasiddhimāpnoti modate divi devavat
He who worships him with devotion, duly, according to the prescribed rite of worship, attains the accomplishment of yoga, and rejoices in heaven like a god.
Verse 7 (skanda.7.97.7)
yo dadyātkāṁcanaṁ meruṁ kṛtsnāṁ caiva vasundharām| yogeśaṁ pūjayedyastu sa tayoradhikaḥ smṛtaḥ
Whoever would give the golden Mount Meru, and the whole earth — and whoever worships Yogesha — he is remembered as greater than the two combined.
Verse 8 (skanda.7.97.8)
vṛṣabhastatra dātavyaḥ saṁpūrṇaphalahetave| evamekādaśa proktā rudrāḥ prābhāsamāśritāḥ| nityaṁ pūjyāśca vaṁdyāśca kṣetrasya phalamīpsubhiḥ
A bull should be given there, for the sake of the complete fruit. Thus have the eleven Rudras resorting to Prabhasa been declared — ever worthy of worship and veneration by those desiring the fruit of the field.
Verse 9 (skanda.7.97.9)
ya etāṁ caiva śṛṇuyādrudraikādaśasaṁhitām| tasya kṣetraphalaṁ sarvaṁ prabhāsāntaravāsinaḥ
He who hears this collection concerning the eleven Rudras obtains the entire fruit of the field, as though dwelling within Prabhasa.
Verse 10 (skanda.7.97.10)
yaścaitānnaiva jānāti rudrānprābhāsamāśritān| sa kṣetramadhyasaṁstho'pi nāstyeva sa paśuḥ smṛtaḥ
He who does not even know these Rudras who dwell in Prabhasa, though he stands in the midst of the field, is reckoned as if he did not exist — he is deemed a mere beast.
Verse 11 (skanda.7.97.11)
eteṣāṁ caiva rudrāṇāṁ sarvānvāpyekameva vā| someśvaraṁ pūjayitvā japedvai śatarudriyam| sarveṣāṁ labhate puṇyaṁ rudrāṇāṁ nātra saṁśayaḥ
Having worshipped all of these Rudras, or even just one, and having worshipped Someshvara and recited the Shatarudriya, one obtains the merit of all the Rudras — of this there is no doubt.
Verse 12 (skanda.7.97.12)
idaṁ rahasyaṁ saṁkhyātaṁ māhātmyaṁ tava bhāmini| rudrāṇāṁ pāpaśamanaṁ śrutaṁ puṇyavivarddhanam
This secret glory, O radiant one, has been recounted to you — this sin-pacifying glory of the Rudras, declared to increase merit.
