Kausalya's Blessings and Farewell

Shloka 1 (ayodhya.25.1)

सा विनीय तमायासमुपस्पृश्य जलं शुचि । चकार माता रामस्य मङ्गलानि मनस्विनी ॥ 25.1 ॥

sā vinīya tamāyāsamupaspṛśya jalaṃ śuci | cakāra mātā rāmasya maṅgalāni manasvinī

Putting aside her exhaustion, and sipping pure water in ritual observance, that resolute mother of Rama performed the rites of blessing.

Shloka 2 (ayodhya.25.2)

न शक्यसे वारयितुं गच्छेदानीं रघूत्तम । शीघ्रं च विनिवर्तस्व वर्तस्व च सतां क्रमे ॥ 25.2 ॥

na śakyase vārayituṃ gacchedānīṃ raghūttama | śīghraṃ ca vinivartasva vartasva ca satāṃ krame

"You cannot now be dissuaded; go then, O foremost of the Raghus. Return swiftly, and ever walk in the path of the virtuous."

Shloka 3 (ayodhya.25.3)

यं पालयसि धर्मं त्वं प्रीत्या च नियमेन च । स वै राघवशार्दूल धर्मस्त्वामभिरक्षतु ॥ 25.3 ॥

yaṃ pālayasi dharmaṃ tvaṃ prītyā ca niyamena ca | sa vai rāghavaśārdūla dharmastvāmabhirakṣatu

"That very righteousness which you uphold with love and with discipline, O tiger among the Raghus — may that righteousness itself protect you."

Shloka 4 (ayodhya.25.4)

येभ्यः प्रणमसे पुत्र देवेष्वायतनेषु च । ते च त्वामभिरक्षन्तु वने सह महर्षिभिः ॥ 25.4 ॥

yebhyaḥ praṇamase putra deveṣvāyataneṣu ca | te ca tvāmabhirakṣantu vane saha maharṣibhiḥ

"My son, may all those to whom you bow in reverence — the gods, and the shrines — together with the great sages, protect you in the forest."

Shloka 5 (ayodhya.25.5)

यानि दत्तानि तेऽस्त्राणि विश्वामित्रेण धीमता । तानि त्वामभिरक्षन्तु गुणैः समुदितं सदा ॥ 25.5 ॥

yāni dattāni te'strāṇi viśvāmitreṇa dhīmatā | tāni tvāmabhirakṣantu guṇaiḥ samuditaṃ sadā

"May those very weapons, given to you by the wise Vishvamitra, ever protect you, who are forever endowed with virtues."

Shloka 6 (ayodhya.25.6)

पितृशुश्रूषया पुत्र मातृशुश्रूषया तथा । सत्येन च महाबाहो चिरं जीवाभिरक्षितः ॥ 25.6 ॥

pitṛśuśrūṣayā putra mātṛśuśrūṣayā tathā | satyena ca mahābāho ciraṃ jīvābhirakṣitaḥ

"My mighty-armed son, protected by your service to your father, your service to your mother, and by truthfulness, may you live long and well-guarded."

Shloka 7 (ayodhya.25.7)

समित्कुशपवित्राणि वेद्यश्चायतनानि च । स्थण्डिलानि च विप्राणां शैला वृक्षाः क्षुपा ह्रदाः । पतङ्गाः पन्नगाः सिंहास्त्वां रक्षन्तु नरोत्तम ॥ 25.7 ॥

samitkuśapavitrāṇi vedyaścāyatanāni ca | sthaṇḍilāni ca viprāṇāṃ śailā vṛkṣāḥ kṣupā hradāḥ | pataṅgāḥ pannagāḥ siṃhāstvāṃ rakṣantu narottama

"The sacrificial sticks, the sacred kusha grass, the altars and the shrines, the consecrated grounds of the brahmins, the mountains, trees, shrubs and pools, the birds, the serpents, and the lions — may all these, O best of men, protect you."

Shloka 8 (ayodhya.25.8)

स्वस्ति साध्याश्च विश्वे च मरुतश्च महर्षिभिः । स्वस्ति धाता विधाता च स्वस्ति पूषा भगोऽर्यमा ॥ 25.8 ॥

svasti sādhyāśca viśve ca marutaśca maharṣibhiḥ | svasti dhātā vidhātā ca svasti pūṣā bhago'ryamā

"May the Sadhyas and the Vishvedevas, and the Maruts together with the great sages, bring you well-being; may Dhatri and Vidhatri bring you well-being; may Pusha, Bhaga, and Aryaman bring you well-being."

Shloka 9 (ayodhya.25.9)

लोकपालाश्च ते सर्वे वासवप्रमुखास्तथा । ऋतवः षट् च ते सर्वे मासाः संवत्सराः क्षपाः ॥ 25.9 ॥

lokapālāśca te sarve vāsavapramukhāstathā | ṛtavaḥ ṣaṭ ca te sarve māsāḥ saṃvatsarāḥ kṣapāḥ

"May all the guardians of the world, headed by Vasava (Indra), and the six seasons, the months, the years, and the nights —

Shloka 10 (ayodhya.25.10)

दिनानि च मुहूर्ताश्च स्वस्ति कुर्वन्तु ते सदा । श्रुतिः स्मृतिश्च धर्मश्च पातु त्वां पुत्र सर्वतः ॥ 25.10 ॥

dināni ca muhūrtāśca svasti kurvantu te sadā | śrutiḥ smṛtiśca dharmaśca pātu tvāṃ putra sarvataḥ

— and the days and the hours, may they all ever bring you well-being. May the Shruti, the Smriti, and Dharma protect you, my son, on every side."

Shloka 11 (ayodhya.25.11)

स्कन्दश्च भगवान् देवः सोमश्च सबृहस्पतिः । सप्तर्षयो नारदश्च ते त्वां रक्षन्तु सर्वतः ॥ 25.11 ॥

skandaśca bhagavān devaḥ somaśca sabṛhaspatiḥ | saptarṣayo nāradaśca te tvāṃ rakṣantu sarvataḥ

"May the divine lord Skanda, and the moon together with Brihaspati, and the seven sages, and Narada, protect you on every side."

Shloka 12 (ayodhya.25.12)

ते चापि सर्वतः सिद्धा दिशश्च सदिगीश्वराः । स्तुता मया वने तस्मिन् पान्तु त्वां पुत्र नित्यशः ॥ 25.12 ॥

te cāpi sarvataḥ siddhā diśaśca sadigīśvarāḥ | stutā mayā vane tasmin pāntu tvāṃ putra nityaśaḥ

"May the perfected sages on every side, and the quarters together with their guardian lords, whom I have now praised, ever protect you, my son, in that forest."

Shloka 13 (ayodhya.25.13)

शैलाः सर्वे समुद्राश्च राजा वरुण एव च । द्यौरन्तरिक्षं पृथिवी वायुश्च सचराचरः ॥ 25.13 ॥

śailāḥ sarve samudrāśca rājā varuṇa eva ca | dyaurantarikṣaṃ pṛthivī vāyuśca sacarācaraḥ

"May all the mountains and the oceans, and King Varuna himself, and the sky, the space between, the earth, and the wind, together with all that moves and does not move —

Shloka 14 (ayodhya.25.14)

नक्षत्राणि च सर्वाणि ग्रहाश्च सह दैवतैः । अहोरात्रे तथा संध्ये पान्तु त्वां वनमाश्रितम् ॥ 25.14 ॥

nakṣatrāṇi ca sarvāṇi grahāśca saha daivataiḥ | ahorātre tathā saṃdhye pāntu tvāṃ vanamāśritam

— and all the stars and planets together with their presiding deities, and day and night, and the two twilights, protect you as you take shelter in the forest."

Shloka 15 (ayodhya.25.15)

ऋतवश्चापि षट् चान्ये मासाः संवत्सरास्तथा । कलाश्च काष्ठाश्च तथा तव शर्म दिशन्तु ते ॥ 25.15 ॥

ṛtavaścāpi ṣaṭ cānye māsāḥ saṃvatsarāstathā | kalāśca kāṣṭhāśca tathā tava śarma diśantu te

"May the six seasons, and the months, and the years, and the units of time called kala and kashtha, bestow happiness upon you."

Shloka 16 (ayodhya.25.16)

महावनेऽपि चरतो मुनिवेषस्य धीमतः । तथा देवाश्च दैत्याश्च भवन्तु सुखदाः सदा ॥ 25.16 ॥

mahāvane'pi carato muniveṣasya dhīmataḥ | tathā devāśca daityāśca bhavantu sukhadāḥ sadā

"And, as you the wise one wander even in the great forest, garbed as an ascetic, may the gods and the demons alike ever be the bringers of your happiness."

Shloka 17 (ayodhya.25.17)

राक्षसानां पिशाचानां रौद्राणां क्रूरकर्मणाम् । क्रव्यादानां च सर्वेषां मा भूत् पुत्रक ते भयम् ॥ 25.17 ॥

rākṣasānāṃ piśācānāṃ raudrāṇāṃ krūrakarmaṇām | kravyādānāṃ ca sarveṣāṃ mā bhūt putraka te bhayam

"My child, may you have no fear at all of rakshasas, of pishachas, of the fearsome and cruel-deeded ones, or of any flesh-eating creatures."

Shloka 18 (ayodhya.25.18)

प्लवगा वृश्चिका दंशा मशकाश्चैव कानने । सरीसृपाश्च कीटाश्च मा भूवन् गहने तव ॥ 25.18 ॥

plavagā vṛścikā daṃśā maśakāścaiva kānane | sarīsṛpāśca kīṭāśca mā bhūvan gahane tava

"In that dense woodland, may there be no monkeys, scorpions, biting flies, or mosquitoes to trouble you, nor any crawling reptiles or insects."

Shloka 19 (ayodhya.25.19)

महाद्विपाश्च सिंहाश्च व्याघ्रा ऋक्षाश्च दंष्ट्रिणः । महिषाः शृङ्गिणो रौद्रा न ते द्रुह्यन्तु पुत्रक ॥ 25.19 ॥

mahādvipāśca siṃhāśca vyāghrā ṛkṣāśca daṃṣṭriṇaḥ | mahiṣāḥ śṛṅgiṇo raudrā na te druhyantu putraka

"My child, may the great elephants, lions, tigers, fanged bears, and fierce horned buffaloes never do you harm."

Shloka 20 (ayodhya.25.20)

नृमांसभोजना रौद्रा ये चान्ये सर्वजातयः । मा च त्वां हिंसिषुः पुत्र मया सम्पूजितास्त्विह ॥ 25.20 ॥

nṛmāṃsabhojanā raudrā ye cānye sarvajātayaḥ | mā ca tvāṃ hiṃsiṣuḥ putra mayā sampūjitāstviha

"And let not the other fearsome, man-eating creatures of every kind harm you, my son — for I have here paid homage to them all."

Shloka 21 (ayodhya.25.21)

आगमास्ते शिवाः सन्तु सिध्यन्तु च पराक्रमाः । सर्वसम्पत्तयो राम स्वस्तिमान् गच्छ पुत्रक ॥ 25.21 ॥

āgamāste śivāḥ santu sidhyantu ca parākramāḥ | sarvasampattayo rāma svastimān gaccha putraka

"May your ways be auspicious, and your feats of valor succeed; may every fortune be yours, O Rama — go now, my child, safe and blessed."

Shloka 22 (ayodhya.25.22)

स्वस्ति तेऽस्त्वान्तरिक्षेभ्यः पार्थिवेभ्यः पुनः पुनः । सर्वेभ्यश्चैव देवेभ्यो ये च ते परिपन्थिनः ॥ 25.22 ॥

svasti te'stvāntarikṣebhyaḥ pārthivebhyaḥ punaḥ punaḥ | sarvebhyaścaiva devebhyo ye ca te paripanthinaḥ

"May you be safe, again and again, from the beings of the sky and of the earth, and from all the gods, and from whatever else stands as your foe."

Shloka 23 (ayodhya.25.23)

शुक्रः सोमश्च सूर्यश्च धनदोऽथ यमस्तथा । पान्तु त्वामर्चिता राम दण्डकारण्यवासिनम् ॥ 25.23 ॥

śukraḥ somaśca sūryaśca dhanado'tha yamastathā | pāntu tvāmarcitā rāma daṇḍakāraṇyavāsinam

"May Venus, the moon, the sun, Kubera the lord of wealth, and Yama, thus worshipped by me, protect you, Rama, as you dwell in the Dandaka forest."

Shloka 24 (ayodhya.25.24)

अग्निर्वायुस्तथा धूमो मन्त्राश्चर्षिमुखच्युताः । उपस्पर्शनकाले तु पान्तु त्वां रघुनन्दन ॥ 25.24 ॥

agnirvāyustathā dhūmo mantrāścarṣimukhacyutāḥ | upasparśanakāle tu pāntu tvāṃ raghunandana

"May fire, wind, and smoke, and the sacred hymns that issue from the mouths of sages, protect you, O joy of the Raghus, at the time of your ritual ablutions."

Shloka 25 (ayodhya.25.25)

सर्वलोकप्रभुर्ब्रह्मा भूतकर्तृ तथर्षयः । ये च शेषाः सुरास्ते तु रक्षन्तु वनवासिनम् ॥ 25.25 ॥

sarvalokaprabhurbrahmā bhūtakartṛ tatharṣayaḥ | ye ca śeṣāḥ surāste tu rakṣantu vanavāsinam

"May Brahma, lord of all the worlds, the creator of beings, and the sages, and all the remaining gods, protect you as you dwell in the forest."

Shloka 26 (ayodhya.25.26)

इति माल्यैः सुरगणान् गन्धैश्चापि यशस्विनी । स्तुतिभिश्चानुरूपाभिरानर्चायतलोचना ॥ 25.26 ॥

iti mālyaiḥ suragaṇān gandhaiścāpi yaśasvinī | stutibhiścānurūpābhirānarcāyatalocanā

Thus, with garlands and with fragrant offerings, and with fitting hymns of praise, the illustrious, large-eyed Kausalya worshipped the hosts of gods.

Shloka 27 (ayodhya.25.27)

ज्वलनं समुपादाय ब्राह्मणेन महात्मना । हावयामास विधिना राममङ्गलकारणात् ॥ 25.27 ॥

jvalanaṃ samupādāya brāhmaṇena mahātmanā | hāvayāmāsa vidhinā rāmamaṅgalakāraṇāt

Taking up the sacred fire, kindled by a high-souled brahmin, she caused oblations to be duly offered into it, for the sake of Rama's welfare.

Shloka 28 (ayodhya.25.28)

घृतं श्वेतानि माल्यानि समिधश्चैव सर्षपान् । उपसम्पादयामास कौसल्या परमाङ्गना ॥ 25.28 ॥

ghṛtaṃ śvetāni mālyāni samidhaścaiva sarṣapān | upasampādayāmāsa kausalyā paramāṅganā

Kausalya, that most excellent of women, had clarified butter, white garlands, sacrificial fuel-sticks, and mustard seeds all gathered together.

Shloka 29 (ayodhya.25.29)

उपाध्यायः स विधिना हुत्वा शान्तिमनामयम् । हुतहव्यावशेषेण बाह्यं बलिमकल्पयत् ॥ 25.29 ॥

upādhyāyaḥ sa vidhinā hutvā śāntimanāmayam | hutahavyāvaśeṣeṇa bāhyaṃ balimakalpayat

The officiating priest, having duly performed the oblation for untroubled peace, then made an outer offering with what remained of the sacrificial food.

Shloka 30 (ayodhya.25.30)

मधुदध्यक्षतघृतैः स्वस्तिवाच्यं द्विजांस्ततः । वाचयामास रामस्य वने स्वस्त्ययनक्रियाम् ॥ 25.30 ॥

madhudadhyakṣataghṛtaiḥ svastivācyaṃ dvijāṃstataḥ | vācayāmāsa rāmasya vane svastyayanakriyām

Then, with honey, curd, unbroken rice-grains, and clarified butter, she had the brahmins pronounce, for Rama, the benedictory rites for his time in the forest.

Shloka 31 (ayodhya.25.31)

ततस्तस्मै द्विजेन्द्राय राममाता यशस्विनी । दक्षिणां प्रददौ काम्यां राघवं चेदमब्रवीत् ॥ 25.31 ॥

tatastasmai dvijendrāya rāmamātā yaśasvinī | dakṣiṇāṃ pradadau kāmyāṃ rāghavaṃ cedamabravīt

Then the illustrious mother of Rama gave to that foremost of brahmins the desired sacrificial fee, and spoke thus to Raghava:

Shloka 32 (ayodhya.25.32)

यन्मङ्गलं सहस्राक्षे सर्वदेवनमस्कृते । वृत्रनाशे समभवत् तत् ते भवतु मङ्गलम् ॥ 25.32 ॥

yanmaṅgalaṃ sahasrākṣe sarvadevanamaskṛte | vṛtranāśe samabhavat tat te bhavatu maṅgalam

"Whatever blessing came upon the thousand-eyed Indra, revered by all the gods, at the destruction of Vritra — may that same blessing be yours."

Shloka 33 (ayodhya.25.33)

यन्मङ्गलं सुपर्णस्य विनताकल्पयत् पुरा । अमृतं प्रार्थयानस्य तत् ते भवतु मङ्गलम् ॥ 25.33 ॥

yanmaṅgalaṃ suparṇasya vinatākalpayat purā | amṛtaṃ prārthayānasya tat te bhavatu maṅgalam

"Whatever blessing Vinata once bestowed upon Garuda, as he set forth in quest of the nectar of immortality — may that same blessing be yours."

Shloka 34 (ayodhya.25.34)

अमृतोत्पादने दैत्यान् घ्नतो वज्रधरस्य यत् । अदितिर्मङ्गलं प्रादात् तत् ते भवतु मङ्गलम् ॥ 25.34 ॥

amṛtotpādane daityān ghnato vajradharasya yat | aditirmaṅgalaṃ prādāt tat te bhavatu maṅgalam

"Whatever blessing Aditi bestowed upon the wielder of the thunderbolt, as he slew the demons at the churning-forth of the nectar — may that same blessing be yours."

Shloka 35 (ayodhya.25.35)

त्रिविक्रमान् प्रक्रमतो विष्णोरतुलतेजसः । यदासीन्मङ्गलं राम तत् ते भवतु मङ्गलम् ॥ 25.35 ॥

trivikramān prakramato viṣṇoratulatejasaḥ | yadāsīnmaṅgalaṃ rāma tat te bhavatu maṅgalam

"Whatever blessing, O Rama, attended Vishnu of matchless splendor as he took his three great strides — may that same blessing be yours."

Shloka 36 (ayodhya.25.36)

ऋषयः सागरा द्वीपा वेदा लोका दिशश्च ते । मङ्गलानि महाबाहो दिशन्तु शुभमङ्गलम् ॥ 25.36 ॥

ṛṣayaḥ sāgarā dvīpā vedā lokā diśaśca te | maṅgalāni mahābāho diśantu śubhamaṅgalam

"O mighty-armed one, may the sages, the oceans, the continents, the Vedas, the worlds, and the quarters bestow upon you every fair and auspicious blessing."

Shloka 37 (ayodhya.25.37)

इति पुत्रस्य शेषाश्च कृत्वा शिरसि भामिनी । गन्धैश्चापि समालभ्य राममायतलोचना ॥ 25.37 ॥

iti putrasya śeṣāśca kṛtvā śirasi bhāminī | gandhaiścāpi samālabhya rāmamāyatalocanā

Having spoken thus, that radiant, large-eyed woman placed the remaining consecrated rice upon her son's head, and anointed Rama with fragrant unguents,

Shloka 38 (ayodhya.25.38)

औषधीं च सुसिद्धार्थां विशल्यकरणीं शुभाम् । चकार रक्षां कौसल्या मन्त्रैरभिजजाप च ॥ 25.38 ॥

auṣadhīṃ ca susiddhārthāṃ viśalyakaraṇīṃ śubhām | cakāra rakṣāṃ kausalyā mantrairabhijajāpa ca

— and, taking the well-proven, auspicious herb called Vishalyakarani, Kausalya fashioned it into a protective charm, and murmured sacred mantras over it.

Shloka 39 (ayodhya.25.39)

उवाचापि प्रहृष्टेव सा दुःखवशवर्तिनी । वाङ्मात्रेण न भावेन वाचा संसज्जमानया ॥ 25.39 ॥

uvācāpi prahṛṣṭeva sā duḥkhavaśavartinī | vāṅmātreṇa na bhāvena vācā saṃsajjamānayā

Though utterly overcome by grief, she spoke as though full of joy, her words alone — not her heart — faltering as she uttered them.

Shloka 40 (ayodhya.25.40)

आनम्य मूर्ध्नि चाघ्राय परिष्वज्य यशस्विनी । अवदत् पुत्रमिष्टार्थो गच्छ राम यथासुखम् ॥ 25.40 ॥

ānamya mūrdhni cāghrāya pariṣvajya yaśasvinī | avadat putramiṣṭārtho gaccha rāma yathāsukham

Bending down, smelling his head, and embracing him, the illustrious mother said to her son: "Go, Rama, with ease, your purpose accomplished."

Shloka 41 (ayodhya.25.41)

अरोगं सर्वसिद्धार्थमयोध्यां पुनरागतम् । पश्यामि त्वां सुखं वत्स संधितं राजवर्त्मसु ॥ 25.41 ॥

arogaṃ sarvasiddhārthamayodhyāṃ punarāgatam | paśyāmi tvāṃ sukhaṃ vatsa saṃdhitaṃ rājavartmasu

"May I see you, my child, returned once more to Ayodhya, in good health, every purpose fulfilled, happily established upon the royal path."

Shloka 42 (ayodhya.25.42)

प्रणष्टदुःखसंकल्पा हर्षविद्योतितानना । द्रक्ष्यामि त्वां वनात् प्राप्तं पूर्णचन्द्रमिवोदितम् ॥ 25.42 ॥

praṇaṣṭaduḥkhasaṃkalpā harṣavidyotitānanā | drakṣyāmi tvāṃ vanāt prāptaṃ pūrṇacandramivoditam

"My sorrow and my doubts all dispelled, my face lit up with joy, may I see you arriving from the forest like the full moon risen in the sky."

Shloka 43 (ayodhya.25.43)

भद्रासनगतं राम वनवासादिहागतम् । द्रक्ष्यामि च पुनस्त्वां तु तीर्णवन्तं पितुर्वचः ॥ 25.43 ॥

bhadrāsanagataṃ rāma vanavāsādihāgatam | drakṣyāmi ca punastvāṃ tu tīrṇavantaṃ piturvacaḥ

"Rama, may I see you again, returned here from your dwelling in the forest, seated upon the auspicious throne, your father's word now fulfilled."

Shloka 44 (ayodhya.25.44)

मङ्गलैरुपसम्पन्नो वनवासादिहागतः । वध्वाश्च मम नित्यं त्वं कामान् संवर्ध याहि भोः ॥ 25.44 ॥

maṅgalairupasampanno vanavāsādihāgataḥ | vadhvāśca mama nityaṃ tvaṃ kāmān saṃvardha yāhi bhoḥ

"Come here from your dwelling in the forest, endowed with every auspiciousness; and continually further the wishes of your wife and of me. Go now, dear one."

Shloka 45 (ayodhya.25.45)

मयार्चिता देवगणाः शिवादयो महर्षयो भूतगणाः सुरोरगाः । अभिप्रयातस्य वनं चिराय ते हितानि कांक्षन्तु दिशश्च राघव ॥ 25.45 ॥

mayārcitā devagaṇāḥ śivādayo maharṣayo bhūtagaṇāḥ suroragāḥ | abhiprayātasya vanaṃ cirāya te hitāni kāṃkṣantu diśaśca rāghava

"May the hosts of gods, beginning with Shiva, whom I have worshipped, the great sages, the hosts of spirits, the gods and the serpent-folk, and the quarters of the sky, O Raghava, long desire your welfare as you now set forth to the forest."

Shloka 46 (ayodhya.25.46)

अतीव चाश्रुप्रतिपूर्णलोचना समाप्य च स्वस्त्ययनं यथाविधि । प्रदक्षिणं चापि चकार राघवं पुनः पुनश्चापि निरीक्ष्य सस्वजे ॥ 25.46 ॥

atīva cāśrupratipūrṇalocanā samāpya ca svastyayanaṃ yathāvidhi | pradakṣiṇaṃ cāpi cakāra rāghavaṃ punaḥ punaścāpi nirīkṣya sasvaje

Her eyes brimming over with tears, having duly completed the benedictory rite, she then walked around Raghava in reverence, and, gazing upon him again and again, embraced him.

Shloka 47 (ayodhya.25.47)

तया हि देव्या च कृतप्रदक्षिणो निपीड्य मातुश्चरणौ पुनः पुनः । जगाम सीतानिलयं महायशाः स राघवः प्रज्वलितस्तया श्रिया ॥ 25.47 ॥

tayā hi devyā ca kṛtapradakṣiṇo nipīḍya mātuścaraṇau punaḥ punaḥ | jagāma sītānilayaṃ mahāyaśāḥ sa rāghavaḥ prajvalitastayā śriyā

Thus circled in reverence by the queen, and pressing his mother's feet again and again, that most glorious Raghava, radiant with his own splendor, went then to Sita's dwelling.
