Uddhava's question, kati tattvani, how many basic elements, receiving Krishna's own prior answer of twenty-eight -- nava, ekadasha, pancha, trini, nine, eleven, five, three -- becomes, in the teacher's hands, an ancient precedent for exactly what happens when a student asks how many fundamental forces or particles exist in physics: the honest answer depends entirely on what level of description is being used, four fundamental forces, or a much larger number of particle types in the standard model, both correct within their own frameworks.
